French traveller here : we did the tour with "Solo Expeditiones" (Punta Arenasand it was really efficient : check in at 6am30 then able to Land on Magdalena Island around 8am30 to see hundreds of pinguins 🐧 Lots of different other birds top, a MUST DO when visiting Punta Arenas !

An ammazzing place. Full of thousands of penguins, sea gulls and cormorants in their natural habitat.I did the trip with solo expediciones. It was a 1/2 day speed boat ride into Pingüinos Islas Magdalena and Marta islands.We also saw hundreds of sea lions at the Marta Island.

Boat ride is about an hour and 35 minutes to the park. Take your own snacks. February is the best month.

Great place to see Humboldt penguins. 5 hour trip (2 hours to get to the island and 1 hour in the island walking a short hike).

Its a great experience for children to see real penguins. A lot of penguins.

So many penguins and you can get pretty close to them too. Look for baby penguins. The place also is a home to many seagulls.

Amazing small island to see tons of penguins and several species of seabirds. You will have 1h to go around the island in a marked pathway to avoid disturbing the natural environment. Theres plenty of time to enjoy the island and apretiate the penguins lifestyle, just be cautious not to go too close to them.The boat trip takes about 1.5h each way from a deck close to Punta Arenas

Excellent - despite the crowds, you do get to enjoy seeing penguins up close. Go in Dec/Jan to see the penguins chicks! Also kudos to the local rangers for vigilantly looking out for the animals

A must must visit. Dont leave Punta Arenas without visiting the island. 9000 mating pairs of magellanic penguins, unlimited numbers of gulls and Chilean skuas!The boat takes about 1.5 hrs and you will have 1 hr to walk a strict trail.Remember - we are visitors. They are the homeowners.

Definitely a must do, if not the best thing to see near Punta Arenas. Penguins are cute, and still are when there are thousands of them wandering around in their habitat around you. This is a tour well worth the money and the hour or two youll spend there, just for the hugeness of that colony, its really impressive to see. Plenty of companies offer tours from the city with various prices, be sure to chose wisely to enjoy this piece of nature the best!

Really reccomended!! It is a small island in the middle of nowhere, there are no people and no buildings other than an old lighthouse. There is a trail you follow, and see all those penguins - there are lots of them! They leave by the end of March as far as we understood.You can take an official boat, ratger than one of the expensive tours - it costs 55.000 pesos round trip, and an hour on the island.

You will be seeing a lot of penguins in pairs sitting and doing nothing. The island is kept all natural so you will see many seagulls that gutted each other. Due to limitations there is "zero" interaction with penguins and rules are strict that you have to stay in your lane. If you are a big penguin fan, or would like to contribute to the park (I hope they are taking a cut from the tour operatorgo and enjoy the scenery. In my opinion it was not worth the money spent (close to $80ppnor the 2hr round trip in a small and very warm boat.

We were fortunate with the weather (doesnt happen often). The crossing of the Megallan Strait was relatively calm and sunny, with glimpses of whales, seals, dolphins, sea lions and sea birds in both directions. Isla Magdalena was also a treat, with the teenage Megallan penguins in high prominence and Mums and Dads busy feeding their chicks. The pairs of penguins with no/lossed chicks were busy preening and consoling each other. We saw nature at work here, with Skuas very much around - and they are big predator sea birds. This navigation is a must, if you stay in Punta Arenas for more than one night.

Difficult to get to from the cruise ships, we took the high speed (expensiveoption, but were glad we did. The weather turned bad on our return trip and we felt lucky we had been there during the early morning good weather. This is a very weather dependent experience and if you have a stop in the Falkland Islands do the North Pond tour.

Great experience in a tiny island in magellan strait. Be aware that sea could be rough, so if you have problems with seasickness stay ashore. Island is full of seagulls and penguins. They live their life apparently indifferent to photo shooting humansBe careful to avoid interfering with penguins especially when they are walking to and from sea, and do not thouch youngs. Great esperience

We loved going to this island to hang out with the Penguins. Very well maintained and respectful to their habitat.

that was a wonderful experience, the place is a natural nursery for penguins and seaguls and you can see them very near in their natural envionment. The guides give you all directions and informations, my 8 yr old daughter had a wonderful time, see the picture on my instagram @sivukus

If you want to see penguins this place is one of the best, the penguins are very close to yourself and you can take amazing fotos to the amazing penguins...I really recoment buying the VIP passage on the boat ( You need to go to the Magdalleen Island in a boat called Catamaran The VIP passage is better than the economic because you have more confort and they can pick you up in a private van to your hotel.

Amazing island with thousands of adorable penguins that are totally tame and unafraid of humans. Its spectacular to see them so close up going about their lives without any concern about people.

You need reservation however its a hit or miss with the wind. We missed out on the seal lions for this reason but I was lucky to see the cutest Penguins. As the other tours for this day was cancelled due to the strong winds. If you stay still the Penguins are very curious. They can touch you but you are not allow to touch them. Its also very expensive $200USD for 1 hr.

They werent kidding when they said there would be penguins everywhere. Its really confusing how to get there though, and a bit over priced if you cant catch the ferry. You are only allowed one hour on the island but that is plenty of time.

Wonderful place! Totally worth visiting, penguins are very beautiful and come really close to us.

It was one of the best experiences of my life! My dream had always been to watch penguin on their own natural habitat. Not only did I got the chance to fulfil my life-dream but, I also got engaged there. The ride takes about two hours to get to the island. There, you get to walk around in a circuit of around 1km. Its a path were penguins walk around. It is completely worth every penny, if youre into penguins and natural wildlife.

Beautiful place, extreamly cold

The penguins are very cute but I was quite disappointed at the tour company that took us there comapa. I paid a high amount for a tour to see the penguins but there were a bunch of tour guides who didnt peovide any explanation once we arrived at the island. These guides were actually playing the role of guards or police watching the tourists a d telling off those who came closer to the penguins.

So many penguins!! It is a two hour ferry there and two hours back but the ride is comfortable and it is so worth it! They are so cute!! And it is a nice walk around the small island.

Nice penguin preserves but when I visited (3 weeks agothere werent many penguins there. To get there requires a 2.5 hour ferry ride. The lighthouse was a great vantage point forvphotos, but the adjoining museum was closed.

We came to Punta Arenas specifically to see Magdalena Island and it doesn’t disappoint.So many penguins wherever you look.

Good trip . Boat has comfortable seats. Videos of the area and history. The 1 hour on the island is enough. The penguins are pretty darn cute.

Everything I was expecting from a visit to a penguin infested island. Loads of the little birds waddling around honking at each other and carrying their dinners.If youre interested in checking out penguins, this is a great place to do so.

Interesting island with a lot of penguins! Unfortunately, at least during high season, you will be together on the island with many tourists who are not respecting the simple rules of the visit. This ruins the experience a bit. The boat ride is also quite long for what there is to see on the island.

Great excursion if your in/around Punta Arenas. Thousands and thousands of cute, waddling penguins!!... And not much else. Good views of the Island and great info up at the lighthouse.

There isnt much to say about this attraction; if you love penguins then it will frankly blow your mind - if you dont... well, it really is just penguins, a LOT of penguins!

Amazing island covered in penguins for as far as you can see. They are a smaller type of penguin standing only a couple feet tall and apparently you can see king penguins in this area so that is something to keep in mind. Definitely worth the trip though!

Incredible place! Thousands of penguins as far as the eye can see. Be prepared for the noise and the smell, but the cuteness of these little guys outweighs any thing poor that could be said about the island.

It was a breathtaking experience. It had been my lifelong dream to see penguins in the wild, and the entire excursion made it even more wonderful.The only downside, to me, would be that its not well communicated that people should try not to scare the penguins when theyre attempting to cross the path. Personally, I also had some mild frustration from trying to enjoy an individual penguin, only to have a handful of people or more run up (because obviously they have to have as many pictures of them up close as possible), which in turn scares the penguin away and takes away from the people who were enjoying them so close to begin with.Itd be nice to have the option to go to the island in much smaller groups, as well as for longer than a mere hour. While Im sure such things exist, they were not easily found for a non native, non Spanish speaker.
