Ruta 722, Provincia de Alajuela, Costa Rica, Heredia
Nature preserve providing trails through jungle terrain to a scenic waterfall & swimming hole.
We visited Los Chorros today (September 28th 2022and it is BREATHTAKING!!! the drive to the reserve is easy, theres parking right next to the owners house. There isnt a fixed price for the hike, you give what you think is appropriate. You can pay with dollars or colones. The walk to the waterfall is downhill and the way back is uphill, so for me, a person that is not in shape, it was a little difficult. But if you bring water and take breaks while going, I think the view of the waterfall will be worth it! By far one of the most beautiful waterfalls Ive seen in Costa Rica, and this is my 3rd time here. The owner is super nice (Luisand gave us cold water when we returned. Theres a bathroom down by the waterfall. After that we moved the car about 200 meters to a beautiful piece of land that you can come and have a picnic at regardless of the hike, you can come just for that. It doesnt require any walking. Just park your car and find a spot on the grass or tables (the photo with the green grass is the area Im referring toand enjoy the amazing view. The phone number on Google isnt Luiss, its the council house or something like that. We notified Luis, because they dont pick up and people might think its closed. When you arrive theres a sign that the place is temporarily closed, but ignore it, as far as Luis told us today the reserve is open as it says 0800-1600 every day. Bring sun screen and big repellant, dont leave any trash behind and just enjoy! 😍😁😍
Beautiful waterfall hike
Love this hike and waterfall for me and my pup!
Luis let us plant some trees on his property. Very nice place to go and relax. Waterfall is a beautiful sight to see
Wow what an unrated place ! Went twice just because it was so beautiful. Its privately owned but a very kind family who cares about every guest and looks out for the safety of everyone . Its about a 20 ish min fairly easy hike and then boom ! Theres 2 huge waterfalls where u can actually swim . The other one is in the back hidden but its so powerful. Highly recommend 👌
This place was amazing. The walk was a nice walk, a little steep for those that have problems with hills. But once you get to the bottom, there is a bathroom, and a place to change. There are tables and fresh water as well.Definitely worth the walk. The waterfalls were Amazing and Beautiful! The water was not too deep, and very nice for a hot day!
Me and my dog throughly enjoyed this hike and waterfall! Definitely go if you get the chance.
Wow wow wow! Beautiful waterfalls! Bring your watershoes and bathing suits. Quite accesible after 20 min walk.Ignore the sign on the road that says its closed and follow the sign to the parking lot. You will be asked to pay 2000 colones for parkibg when you exit and add donation as you please. Dont miss the 2nd waterfall - after crossing the river towards the 1st waterfall, there are stairs that go left, then stay on the right river bank till you reach the waterfall. We easily spent there 3 hours and could stay longer!
The hike is a bit tough but totally worth it. Bring your swimsuit and camera.
This place is awesome! There’s a sign put up by the local government saying that the park is closed but it actually means that people can still go in under their own risk. The river is a little tricky to walk across, I’d recommend you bring shoes to walk in the river and another pair of shoes to walk back to your car. Be careful since the rocks are slippery! The waterfalls are amazing, there are two of them that we could see, the one that’s farther into the river and the canyon is huge and you can climb a rock next to it and jump into the swimming hole! The walk to the river is around 1km long (0.6 milesdownhill so be ready to climb a mountain for 1km when you’re going back to your car! Mr Luis is very kind and will let you park your car in his backyard for a small fee plus a voluntary contribution. We will definitely come back!
Easy 15 min hike to a true gem.
Great place to visit if youre in the area......a little bit of a hike down to the waterfalls... good shoes required
Beautiful hike, worth the effort. Friendly cows too by where you park.
Beautiful place. They ask 3000 colones for parking and a donation. Some.yoing guys make some good money. That doesnt go in maintenance at all. There is a bridge that leads to the actual hiking but its totally broken. People climb on it or through the river but this is super dangerous. So you pay basically for parking. The government/owners should fix the broken bridge and all otherwise someone will have a bad accident.
Very nice experience the gentleman who owns the property was very friendly we parked the car gave 5 dollars for parking he asked for a donation after I gave him 40$ we climbed the mango trees and we got some great fruit and fed the cows some mangos too
Pulled up to the lot, gate was closed and no answer when we honked. Hiked around for an hour. Nice hike, but couldnt find the falls. Access must be through the guys property?
Nice place to go with your family. Theres a beautiful waterfall. From the parking lot, it takes 15 minutes to get to it (1km). 3000 colones for the parking service and a non compulsory charge for the guys that allow you to get into the property. You can go in dry or rainy season but definitely it is better to go in dry season.
Absolutely beautiful. Trail is pretty well maintained but facilities are not. Definitely had to take breaks on the hike back up, but great trip.
Great twin waterfalls. There is a 1.5km walk to get there but be aware the water is very cold if you plan to get in. The trail can be difficult at some points
Beautiful scenery, amazing place to visit.
Short hike to a pretty waterfall. Lots of poeple on the way and also there, swimming in the stream ( we were there over the holiday weekend). The park facilities seem to be falling apart , so local folks just use the bushes etc .
Beautiful walk down to two really nice waterfalls. The landowner Luis was friendly and helpfull. Be sure to take some cash for a donation.
We drove all the way out yesterday and it was closed. I am.assuming because its rainy season. Make sure its open before your drive 😊
The people that greeted us there, did not give clear directions as to where the trails were even though we had asked a few times. We ended up being lost for more than an hour.
Really beautiful spot off the beaten path. Well maintained but not paved hiking path down to waterfalls. Elevation change is significant but steps cut in the hillside help a lot. Bamboo forest was beautiful. We saw a sloth, a porcupine, a toucan, leaf-cutter ants, many other birds. The proprietor, Luis, was as nice as could be. We had a good visit in my rusty Spanish (he also speaks English). In the off-season (Junethere was no one there but us. I totally recommend it. Luis takes donations, and after our hike, he shared some of his mothers baking with our grandchildren. A lovely day.
Amazing and easy hike. Not sure if the water was 100% clean since we found a lot of trash on the river
This is a hidden gem in Costa Rica my dad and I had great time here. Difficult hike going back up but worth It.
Beautiful natural waterfall! The guy taking care of the parking lot said it was a 1km walk, but it seemed more like 3km each way. Quite steep in sections, you need to be in moderately good shape to get there and back along the narrow dirt trail. About a half hour walk each way, but worth it.
Off the beaten path. Fairly difficult hike, but worth it. My group had the waterfalls all to themselves.
Its a good place to go and relax with the family, 100% cold, clean and fresh water. A lot of birds, reptiles and nature. If u want more info write me.
Super nice !! Two great waterfall !!!
This is one of the true hidden gems in Costa Rica. Several signs say its closed. Ignore the signs and drive up the unpaved road to the farmhouse where you can park. A one kilometer hike, through dense forest brings you to the base of a 60 meter waterfall and pool with beautiful surroundings. Bring water and a snack and wear good hiking shoes. After returning to your vehicle, give Luis a donation. We gave him 5000 colones which seemed OK. Take your camera.
Super nice waterfalls, easy to get there by car, awesome experience
Incredibly beautiful local swimming spot! Less than an hour from San Jose - a must go. After parking for $4, we were pointed down the hill about 1km. After walking for about 15 min, you emerge into a gorgeous open valley with not one, but two massive waterfalls. Open until dark - enjoy!
Excellent for grownding and connect with Gaïa. Nice easy hike , just an hour from San Jose
Luis seems like a decent fellow but did not mention any fee to enter the park.We had a wonderful adventure at the falls but when we started pulling away from where we parked Luis grabbed onto our car, caused a big dent and damaged a door of our car, he then detained us. We used the police to leave! Terrifying night. My five year old daughter was in tears until the police arrived and helped us escape from the area.
Place is great. Its a bit of a walk to get down and to get back up, but is definitely worth it. Parking is cheap and the views of the waterfall are great. Its not that far from Alajuela centro.
There were people drinking, and the waterfalls were fairly big.. Not the funnest place for kids.. But for adults it is nice....
Beautiful. Off the beaten path which I enjoy because its not crowded. A few locals who were all very friendly. There were bathrooms, but they looked abandoned, so I didnt use.
This is an absolute must see if you are in Grecia or San Jose. Its close, and there are just very few places you can walk to the bottom of a 4 story waterfall. The water is never above knee depth. That said, getting there is a bit of a trick. Go in the official entrance, and after about 100 meters there will be a rope across the road, and a sign that says "Parque." beyond the sign is a house. Drive past the house and park in the mowed grass. When you get out of the car, either Luis or one of his boys will come out and guide you across the property to the Trail which leads down to the waterfalls. When you see Luis (hes about 57", dark curly hairhe will ask for a donation, most people seem to do about 10$/car.The trail takes about 20 minutes to get down to the main waterfall, which is spectacularly visible without getting wet. That said, the best way to experience this area is to bring water shoes and a suit. Luis will direct you how to work your way across the rocks to the second water fall. It is absolutely worth it. While not as grand as the first, the sheer force coming out of the second fall is worth the short walk. Will be interesting to see what the city does now that they have purchased the land. Hope this attraction eventually becomes more accessible to all.
Worth it. The "hike" is fine. My 80 year old grandma did it perfectly
Such a beautiful, breathtaking place. Worth the hike to both waterfalls. Theyve even taken care to set up picnic and bathroom areas. Wear durable water shoes and clothes that you can get wet in or a bathing suit. Bring a change of dry clothes. I entered the park at an area that led to Luiss property and parked there. Hes a very nice man, has three cute dogs and only asks for a donation for you to park. I donated $10(USD). He was very helpful with directions down to the falls and made sure I was rested enough to make the 1.5 hour drive back to where I was staying.
Amazing waterfall, theres two to see. The owner of the land was really friendly, short 20 minute hike to the waterfall, a must do.
Luis was very helpful! He speaks little english and we speak little spanish but we were able to work it out. He was very patient and polite. The terrain was a bit difficult as there was a big storm the night before. We didnt locate the second waterfall but the first was beautiful.
Theres limited car access from the entrance to the official parking lot but the place is incredibly beautiful
It is a whole lot of hiking, be ready to walk in the jungle, rough terrain. It is absolutely beautiful at the bottom of the mountain at the waterfall, which makes the hike totally worth it. However, I would like to add that I am in fantastic physical shape and I was fine, but this is not a trip for the frail, elderly or obese. Its really a rough hike.
Definitelly a most go because its really close to San Jose and easy to access. The view is worth the trip.
Amazing waterfall after just a short hike.
Beautiful place, 30mins hard walk to get there but it worth it!!!
Short, easy hike only 30 minutes from the hotels in San Jose. Well maintained trails with tables for a picnic. When the water is low enough, you can traverse the river easily to see the second waterfall. Low traffic, mostly locals, so you feel like you have the forest to yourself. Highly recommended for a 1/2 day in San Jose.
