Gorgeous hotel with quiet rooms, a fantastic view of the city’s skyline and especially noticeable is the tasteful and stylish design throughout the hotel and rooms. The rooftop is just incredible and so is the lobby and bar. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend it!

Where do I begin? I booked a room here for what would have been my wedding anniversary and I regret nothing... except maybe the marriage. With a rooftop pool, theres nowhere else you should spend your day. Whether youre reading philosophy or gazing at the cityscape, youll never be bored - I promise.I spent mornings in the lobby sipping tea and journaling, afternoons lounging and enjoying rose, and evenings talking to beautiful people that were certainly more famous that I ever care to be.

I’ve decided to write a review because before booking my one night stay for 09/10/22 I was unsettled and a tad nervous about my booking due to the wonky reviews. When I arrived valet was open, there was another car in front of me and I pulled forward to allow more room for any cars waiting for valet too. A man by the name of Benito wasn’t too chipper but he helped me quickly and efficiently. It took a while to check in but everyone there was staying for a concert like I was so patience was a virtue. Three people were at check in to manage the rush, a woman with glasses and turquoise earrings(wish I would’ve gotten her namewas kind and got me in right away. The elevator was a tad busy so thankfully my room was on the second floor and I took the stairs. The room itself was very clean, the bathroom was clean but the A/C did take a while to get to a decent temperature. I was able to come and go with valet with no issue(I came and went about two times and checked out of the hotel at 6am and valet was still efficient. It did take 7 days for them to refund my deposit so no, they’re not stealing. Overall a good place to stay for the night if you just need a bed and aren’t getting too wild.

I stayed in a 2nd story room facing the street. Woke up every night from street sounds. I live in a city, and am not unused to traffic sounds, but had trouble with cars revving their engines when they went by, sirens from emergency vehicles, and car alarms/horns going off at literally every hour of the night. Sunday night was particularly bad, so not just weekends. Also had a fire alarm go off at 9am. Don’t stay here expecting to sleep well.Excluding that, rooms were well decorated. Rooftop and hotel bar are cool, expensive but not unfairly priced for LA. Bathroom was also nice. It’s also a hostel so expect a lot of tourists (and cigarette smells everywhere. I think I’m going to try to stay outside of downtown LA next I come to the city.

Only stay here if you HAVE to and want to do something in the area. The AC was broken and everyone in the room was extremely miserable. I interacted with staff 4 times and 3 times they were ruse and very unhelpful. I won’t be staying here Again and don’t recommend. The bed spaces have no space and the cloth separation only cover 1/4 of you private area so no privacy here. Pool is a lot smaller and very expensive to be there. Location is very nice and gym and lounge spaces are big plus. But burning in this heat, no privacy and rude staff don’t make up for it. Would highly recommend spending a bit more on a hotel than decide to stay here. Dreaded coming back every night after my day plans.

Please make sure you read ALL the reviews before booking - we have had $250 stolen from our accounts with the hotel claiming we purchased another night (we weren’t even in the same stateand racked up a huge bar bill (it was even signed with my partners surname - but not his signature)!!! The staff have been so rude and not helped at all - they have hung up, shouted at us and will not accept their mistake. They won’t even engage with our attorney. Definitely a huge scam. Hotel is beautiful but not worth the terrible customer service and risk of losing money that they are unwilling to return.Previous reviews have similar issues so clearly a recurring theme - please please please do not stay here!

The staff is very patient and are willing to communicate with you about any issues you have. The beds in the multi-rooms are alright, and the AC is good. [No fridge]*, but you get lockers and lamps, so cant complain too much when. Theres a bar and restaurant directly downstairs.*UPDATE: Apparently you can ask for a fridge if you need one. The more you know!

Rooms were clean, no bugs, bed was comfortable and check in was easy! I stayed in room 1005, which is a skyline upgrade option, very pretty at night! Definitely paying for a hipster vibe in a historic building! Only complaints was no body answers the phone in the evening, the website doesnt explain very well that there is a $150 security deposit and a $50/day valet. The pictures are kind of misleading, expected the rooms to be bigger but very minimalist like. Cool experience though!

The hotel was beautiful. Couldnt ask for better. The location is great although the only parking option is valet, but the garage around the corner is very easy access by foot after parking. Unfortunately I have to leave 3 stars because I feel like the front desk staff violated my rights as a guest. I was lied to and told for some reason that outgoing phone calls cant be made from the room even though the phone says otherwise and Ive been to the Freehand Chicago location for business and pleasure and no such rule exists. Beyond that, I wasnt just told that personally. My phone was physically, somehow, blocked from making calls. As a busy adult with some security concerns, sometimes you do want to use a landline and its very unfortunate I couldnt get done what I needed to there based on what I believe was individual discrimination from the hotel staff. Even more strange, at multiple points someone was knocking on my hotel room door and playing with the handle, yet when I tried to ask security they claim no one was there even though I kinda saw their outline through the door myself. So I am not sure, but I definitely feel like the staff that night were playing games and it was at total odds with the property. Very disappointing for such a beautiful place.

I stayed in the 8-bed mixed dorm and was highly impressed for the price I paid. The location is top notch, right in the center of downtown and just a few blocks from the metro. The staff were super friendly and helpful, theyll even store your bags for free. The bedroom was well laid out, with lockers, dimmable lights, bedside plugs, and AC. The whole hotel is nicely decorated, and the lobby is nice to hang out in. Free wifi, sheets, and towels were included in the very cheap 8-bed dorm. The bathrooms in the dorm were kept clean daily. My only complaint was the short shower curtain which meant we were continuously flooding the bathroom, thats an easy fix though.

The room is quite big, the cleanliness is ok. It can be very loud at night since the windows are not very sound proofing. I can hear traffic and concerts going on at night very clearly. Sometimes even people walking through the hallway. If you are a light sleeper, this is not the right place for you. But in general, it’s not bad. And it’s right in the heart of downtown. You can walk anywhere in downtown from here

Great central downtown location across the street from Whole Foods and close proximity to then LA Live. I stayed in the single room and overall enjoyed the experience. The hotel has a unique hipster vibe. One downside was the city noise due to the location so its definitely not a tranquil experience. But other than that I would definitely recommend this hotel if youre in the area.

Ok this place was great. Great size room, they cleaned my room daily. If you get a room with a city view it helps the experience. Very stylish and great room. The rooftop was also great and you get a nice skyline. (I drove here and decided to park in a neighboring parking garage.)

This was one of the best hotel experiences we have had. Our check-in was smooth and pleasant, and the attendant gave us an upgrade. The hotel room design was so unique and we loved the view of the downtown skyline. The amenities were also generous. One thing that could be improved is the parking, since there is no self parking site and we used the nearest parking garage instead of the valet parking available.

It was a very old historical hotel. Skyline view was pretty cool, but also there are other buildings on the side we had that were larger. At night though it was very lit up and cool. The only thing I wish is the price of the room and the skyline view had a bigger room. Felt kind of cramped especially staying longer periods since the room filled with gifts and shopping items. Thats the 4 stars for me. If the rooms were larger for the price I paid Id have given a 5 star for sure.

Stayed here for just 1 night, on a female room for 4 people, the rooms are good, everything you need for your stay and lockers too.Views are just amazing, my only but here its that the Rooftop its only open from 12 to 12, had no chance to see the view from it.Location its also amazing so I would definitely stay here again.

I was a little skeptical of the private 6 bed rooms but it was so much fun. The bathroom has two sinks, a separate shower room, and a separate toilet room. The bunk beds were really well-designed - look good, comfortable, and functional. They have curtains if you need, and outlets in each bunk. There are also large wooden lockers, one for each person, to put your stuff away. The pool is a rooftop pool, it’s the perfect size and is a good spot to chill and get some sun. It’s lively with a lot of people but not too busy. However, the rooftop staff were a little meh. Not very friendly and the service was super slow.Still giving 5 stars because it was so much fun. Overall great time and amazing location.

The hotel was comfortable and well located. the communal spaces were inviting and the staff I talked to was very kind. Unfortunately they have a really bad policy on lost items. I forgot some items hanging in the closet and was not able to get ahold of anyone on the phone for two days. When I did they told me they would follow up with me by the end of the day. No one did. Luckily I was booked to stay there again only four days after having left my things behind. Upon my return I was told no one had reported my things and that nothing was left behind. Only once I annoyingly went back to the desk three more times to inquire if anything had been found did it happen to appear. The purse I had forgotten had been gone through and slightly damaged.I loved the hotel but was very disappointed with the way this interaction occurred. Just dont lose anything !

Staff is friendly & helpful, the rooftop vibe is spectacular (drinks are a little pricey but worth it), the rooms are cool. I did a few nights in a shared room, then decided to upgrade to my own spot.Highly recommended.

Room on 1009 has the best view of the nice buildings and city life. Stayed for two nights and its perfect. Room was very clean and spacious. Having a corner room and large windows in 3 corners means lovely views of LA downtown. The bed and sheets are comfortable. Two sinks and spacious restroom was gracious. Very nice experience: customer service, room, location (surrounded by great restaurants and whole foods walking distance is a plus), and the Roof top views and the bar really top it all like cherry on top! Wow, thanks for the wonderful experience, highly recommended!

I travelled from the uk with two friends for super-bowl weekend and stayed at the freehand for 3 nights before moving on! and what a weekend it was , location is superb with the hotels aesthetic and rooftop bar definitely exceeding an already exciting expectation. This gem is a little slice of LA as you imagine! Probably the best rooftop bar in LA! Rooms were very nice clean and comfortable and the vibe was awesome! Will definitely be returning in the future! Thanks so much for making my first time in LA great!
