This 20-acre campus with diverse collections spanning art history also offers screenings & concerts.
It was too late to go into the actual museum, so we stayed at the light sculpture in front of the museum for photos like everyone else there. Its a perfect photo op area, but you will have to time your shots right if you want to make it appear youre alone. Unless you come very late night. Its a great spot to come by and at least visit the light sculpture in front.
The Museum of Contemporary Art is one of the iconic symbols of Los Angeles. I was lucky enough to visit the museum at the time of an event. The visit was free because of the performances of the events, and it was very important to see and enjoy these arts.
Love the exhibits, you can expect to spend about 2 hours here. It’s interesting how they start you on the 3rd floor so you can make your way down slowly!
We really enjoyed this experience. Day trio into LA to get some Culture. They had 3 floors in one building and 1 floor in another building. Everything was beautiful and loved the Alexander McQueen exhibit. They also have a great cafe outside where we enjoyed a panini and some sangria
Amazing place, be prepared to spend HOURS here. Theres so much to see and take in. Really happy that I could be there to see the Korean exhibit- it is AMAZING. Would definitely recommend.
I highly recommend visiting if you’re into art and/or art history. There are plenty of places to take cute selfies. There are even a few small establishments to eat. The only complaint I have is $25 per person is too much.
I loved all diversity in art. Definitely one of the most memorable museums I have visited. The staff was friendly and the view was amazing. I will be swinging by anytime I’m in LA!
Beautiful museum. Angelenos can get free admission on certain days of the month. You can see that on LACMA’s website. A nice array of modern, old and very abstract art in can walk through or even stand in. There’s about 3/4 floors of exhibits to look through. We spent about 2 hours. You do still have to wear a mask here but they give you one complimentary.
What a pleasant surprise on a recent trip to Los Angeles. The exhibition (Black impact on hollywoodwas fab and it never seemed congested though busy. Plenty of interactive items that were enjoyed by all ages. There is also a high tech movie theater, - think arc light V2 and observation deck for wonderful photos of the city.
Worked across the street on Wilshire so I was always able to come over and see a wide range of exhibitions daily whether they were featured or temporary. Its a good time with family, friends on a date or by yourself. There is something for everyone here and is a gem if you like unique art. Night time provides you a more unique view the lights and sculptures. Check the web for exhibitions and showings, times and dates.
Free for L.A. County residents, weekdays after 3 pm with valid ID. Otherwise $25 for adults. The exhibits are across two buildings, one has 3 floors (2nd floor is currently under renovation). Exhibits are quite eclectic: fashionable dresses, classic paintings, modern paintings, artifacts, and sculptures. Youll see Picassos next to Diego Rivera next to Andy Warhol
Friday Jazz nights, get there early or bring chairs. Boyob encouraged by me bring a cooler with drinks and food. Slightly down graded for the long lines for drinks. You can buy food if 100 to 150 for guaranteed seating at their food court.
$25 per adult. When we were there one of the floor is unavailable as there are installing the arts. But you gotta pay the full fee anyway. I would highly recommend just to walk around the museum. You can see the light installation, rock and the architecture they are free. Not much art to see inside the building.
Its an okayish place and I would suggest not to get too excited by the specific angled photos on the internet which make the street light installation seem infinite.Although if youve got time and in LA its definitely a landmark you should visit during the night for a good photo op.Also weekdays will be your best bet to get a spot with no people crowding your photo we visited on a Monday night.
I loved the old Parks Cinema exhibit. The Alexander McQueen exhibit was interesting and I love historic art work. I absolutely did not enjoy the modern art building, especially the second floor. I did not consider words on walls or projection to be art, especially foul and inappropriate language. I found it inappropriate for children with no prior warning when you walk in; parts of it hateful to America; offensive and unnecessary. A waste of space. The lights on the front are cool, but only on at night after closing and you cannot stop your car in front to get out or look. However the city exhibit on the first floor with the cars was amazing! All in all it may have been a bit too pricey since one building was a wash.
I havent been in here for awhile but on my recent visit I had an amazing time. I was reminded of how much I enjoy coming to Lacma. The atmosphere is so relaxing and peaceful. I saw the latest Barbara Kruger exhibit which was an amazing experience. I was so impressed how they managed to accommodate all her large scale works. The collections they have for modern art is very decent. I do wish theyd bring back more of John Baldassaris work. But Im hoping thatll comeback once the new building is done. Regardless, its a great museum and is a lovely way to spend your day at.
Such a great museum in LA. I didnt really know what kind of exhibits would be here but was pleasantly surprised by the wide range of art styles. A great mixture of paintings and sculptures throughout the location. Definitely could spend a couple hours here.
If you dont have a Next-gen membership for your kids I suggest you get one. Adults enter free accompanying their child, make a reservation in advance and can do so even on the same day. Alexander McQueen exhibit currently on display...amazing fashion!
Excellent place to visit at night, we went here in a rather hurried schedule so could not devote to it, the time it deserved. The lights are pretty cool. La La Land feels, go urban lights!Pro tip: do check out a few pics from insta or Google reviews before you click and post yours on the Gram! Many cool angles can be captured
1. Basically, They are really care about Covid.2. Sencondly, There are recycling trash can too! That is very good :)3. There are a lot of masterpieces such as Picasso, Jackson Pollak, Mark Rothko, etc,..
If you aren’t really a fan of art and architecture…. I guarantee you’ll become one after visiting this museum.A place where art is used to create effects, express ideas, and emotions….. show structures and infrastructures. It showcases the presence of art in every aspect of our lives….whether it’s clothing, utensils, roadways, cinema, speech, paintings, monuments…etc. It makes you realize how art is present in EVERY aspect of our lives…. And how, without art/architecture…. Nothing really was possible.Los Angeles county residents get free entry during certain hours, and parking was $18.
This is definitely a must-see art museum in orange county. The place was very unique, with some outdoor pieces as well as indoor. There is an outdoor escalator that takes you to the first exhibit. There is a good variety of art as well, from different times and locations.
I remember going to LACMA in high school and it was okay. Going as an adult, I have a greater appreciation for all of the exhibits, especially the film exhibits. There is so much to do and see! I love being able to stand feet away from actual Star Wars props, Academy Awards, handwritten scripts, and so much more. Plan to spend a few hours here!
Great place to admire art! Temporary exhibitions were super interesting and the permanent art is just Wow… if you want great Insta photos of the lamps outside don’t go when the museum is open but go there really early at sunrise or late at night at dawn for great Insta shots
Beautiful. I’ve been wanting to go take pics there for a while and it did not disappoint. We went during a weekday and it was fairly empty. We did not go in, so I can’t attest for the art inside, but I do remember reading that you have to buy tickets in advance. The outside is beautiful and great for pics.If parking in their garage, prepare to pay $28 even if you only stay for a few minutes.
Interesting and surprisingly large collection of art from virtually every era. I hated the on line ticketing process and mandatory mask policy but loved the art. Worth the visit.
Its a great place to hang out and take some great pictures. There is an adjoining park with colorful trees. The museum inside is ticketed though. The surrounding park is well kept with great artifacts about art & sculpture.
The museum LACMA had an entrance fee. You have to get the QR code for that and pay online for a timed entry. Masks were required for all in May 2022. Its main permanent collection is on the 3rd floor. Changing exhibitions are on 1st and the 2nd floors. Parking costs $18. Check their website for free days, etc. We had an expensive but delicious lunch at Ray on the main plaza.
Great stop for a date night or to just unwind. There are food options available on site so dont be afraid to come an hour or so before your scheduled time to grab a bite to eat. Parking is available in the deck for a fee.
This is one of my favorite museums in the world! I went on the free day of the month, otherwise there is a cost for a ticket unless you have a paid membership. The staff were well organized and super helpful, giving out masks in line. I came for the Barbara Kruger exhibit and it did not disappoint. I stopped by the relocated, smaller store got a David Hockney poster as a souvenir. The Alexander McQueen exhibit was also very interesting. It will take you about at least 2 hours to make your way fully around. Highly recommended!
This was on my bucket list. I’m so glad I was able to see this in person. The formation of the lights satisfied my OCD.. I love abstract art.. the beauty of free expression. With so much Darkness in life, take me to the lights isn’t a death sentence here. It’s giving vintage beauty. I wish I could’ve gotten night pictures also. The palm trees are a beautiful touch. I’ve seen people pull up and park to take pictures but it’s plenty of meter parking on the streets near by. We visited on a Sunday and didn’t have to pay the meter. The weather was nice and breezy.
Had a really bad experience with the staff at the museum. To say they were rude, would be an understatement. We did get to talk to a manager, and for that I raised it to a three star review.
An awesome way to spend an evening or date night. It’s a small museum but i really entrenched myself in the exhibits and it took me 3 1/2 to four hours. But I had time to kill and normally it would take less. All of the exhibits are awesome and I was surprised by the inclusion of an exhibit by Barbara Kruger, I felt this museum doesn’t fit her theme. Nevertheless, this is a must visit in LA even if you have only the slightest interest in art. LA county residents get in free.
One of the highlights of any visit to Los Angeles, LACMA is an excellent curator of modern art. You start of the third floor with their permanent collection of modern art and then travel down to floors two and one with their special exhibits, each unique and interesting. More special exhibits are on display in the second building. Dont miss the Ai Weiwei sculpture of the Chinese zodiac, the Levitated Mass sculpture, and Urban Lights (best experienced at nightoutside as well. You have to purchase tickets in advance on the website. They do not sell them on site any more unless you are a reciprocal member or from outside the US.
Currently LACMA is undergoing massive rebuilding that is to be completed in 2024 but the museums is still worth a visit in the interim. You need to book tickets in advance on the internet.I like to start my visit with a Sunny and yummy meal at Ray’s restaurant in the plaza. They museum is particularly agressive about rotating its collection so each visit is a joyous adventure.I love it here and never miss an opportunity to visit!
One of our favorite beaches in socal! It has its own vibe. It’s so different than other beaches in socal in it’s on ways. Plenty of places to sit, chill, have family tea parties. Love it!!
I really enjoyed this museum.Got tickets online. Check for student prices. Parking is underground paid take elevator to ground floor. Or metered by the road outside. There is food at the restaurant on the first floor before you enter. W bar too and outdoor patio seating. Cheeseburger was not that good but expensive. Service was good tho.Entrance on ground floor. Checks body temp, vax card, ticket qr code. Gives sticker for re entry place on shirt.Inside 2nd floor was under renovation.Lots to see in an hour or 2 hours. Clean bathrooms and water fountains.Cant eat or drink inside but you can carry it. Backpacks were allowed but mist wear in front of body to prevent accidents.Nice touch less doors ! W sensors.Must wear mask inside.Fun for kids on first floor.
I only give it 5 stars because they have a huge Picasso exhibit over a dozen works by him. But overall the museum is really small and not much displayed. The main exhibit I guess is the modern art section. Its free during the week from 3pm to closing with LA county ID.I went on Friday and theyre open until 8pm. Proof of vaccination is required and LA county ID. Theres also a temperature check and masks are required inside.Free audio tours are available online.
A pretty cool lights display! This lights art installation is amazing and worth the visit to this place. It really lights up our spirits too! Only drawback is that you can never take a picture without any people walking amongst these lights, since this place is super popular and will have tons of people visiting it at any time of the day. But the best time to see this grandeur is after dark, once the lights are on and shining bright!!Pleasant afternoon visiting the modern and contemporary art. There is a hidden gem on the first floor literally behind closed doors. You will see two sets of old doors on the wall with an attendant nearby. You will be lit in and enter a bit of a time travel. Also, dont miss the live action transportation exhibit.Los Angeless County Museum is beautiful place to enjoy an evening with the family. Theres lots of places to stop and appreciate the art displayed. The park area is great to go on walks or have a picnic and enjoy the shied. The restroom as clean and well maintained as well as the park area.A well maintained museum with an easy to use ticket booking. I am impressed by their COVID precautions. I would love to revisit when more exhibits become available.Such a awesome experience! 2 side with one side having multiple.floors. suggest usi g the escalator to go to the top.floor and work way down. Staff was awesome in explaining some.of the art and ways to appreciate it more. Its connected to the academy museum but thats a separate charge. Parking is a little steep but its the city. Buy the tickets online as you have to reserve a time slot.

A complete gem a museum. Always a delight. The Asian art pavilion is such a treasure. The stark bar is very fun too for coffee or a frozen rosé post-exhibitioning. Urban lights always a show stopper.

LACMA is definitely one of the best art museums in the US and certainly one of the very top in LA. I still think, in terms of art, the best museums to visit are LACMA and Norton Simon in Pasadena. It’s hard for me to say anything that’s not already been said about LACMA due to how famous it is and where it sits on Miracle Mile and Museum Row. The exhibits are constantly changing, it’s very well organized, extremely clean, and even though there are a lot of people on the grounds it never feels like any room is too crowded aside from a handful of certain famous pieces perhaps. $20 to enter and parking is provided on grounds although depending on the day and time of your visit you may be able to find street parking close.I have been many times over the years and each time there is always something new to see and it seems they’re always doing some sort of expansion as well. There is a ton of square footage to cover so your visit can be as short or as long as you’d like. Everything is professionally done and informative; I highly recommend to any fan of art, museums, or anyone who wants to explore some of the best things Los Angeles has to offer.

Unmissable! Impeccable as always! Must buy tickets in advance, and bring covid vaccines certificate. Be prepared to spend 4+ hours here, starting from top to bottom. The store was a little disappointing, too small and crowded. I love museum stores, yet missed this one in account of the huge line!

The first time was going, and it was for the Studio Ghibli exhibit. Its a beautiful place. There werent any lines, but if there were, they were well prepared for it. I checked out a couple of other rooms, such as the backdrop exhibit, which was interesting, and I think I went to the main exhibit that was full of the academy associated things. All in all, a very welcomed experience. I suggest going for sure.
The large number of Picassos works, and above all, the exhibition of Yoshitomo Nara, who used all the floors, was a masterpiece. When I visited, it was just on display for the Black American Portrait. Especially the work depicting Mr. Obama was wonderful. Currently, due to the influence of covid19, you cannot enter without a vaccination certificate.
Must see museum..! Fantastic and eclectic collection that is always changing. The Picasso room is worth the trip alone. I just saw the Obama Portrait and the Nara Exhibit—just can’t say enough good things about this place—go!!
