Loon Dollar Monument - Tourist attraction in Thessalon, Canada
Ive seen the Toonie and the nickel so obviously had to stop and see the Loonie!
Nice quick, free, easy pit stop to learn some history and stretch your legs!
Nice monument of the artwork of the loonie!
Neat clean monument. Interesting.
Nice bit of history. Free to go see. Nice monument
Well, you know, you get there you take a picture and, good bye. Great little trail on the marshes.
I should have read the review before heading to this place. I thought it was just the loon dollar monument, ant that was it. I found out there was a nice boardwalk. There is a community center next to it. I definitely love to go again
Its big! And its Loonie!!
Nice area to honour the artist, who we heard about later in our trip at the Winnipeg Mint. Also a nice quiet area near a nature walk .
Not as big as the big Nickle but still a fun visit. Also has bathrooms on site which is a plus for a quick rest stop.
When is a Loonie smaller than a nickel? Only here. There is also a nice boardwalk, through a wetland or something, but we couldnt get past the smell of the washrooms on site. Unmaintained and awful, couldnt get within 20 feet without gagging and almost vomiting... Would be a nice rest stop for a walk and stretch otherwise. Bring a mask or something.
Nobody else there when we got there! A neat little spot to stop at however its a bit out of the way. Theres a marsh hiking trail on the property (we didnt hike it however because of the rain). The outdoor bathrooms were really gross.
Fun place to stop and see
I mean, its just a big loonie. I guess A good photo stop if you like the big kitchen stuff. There is also a short boardwalk trail and a couple of tables for a picnic. There are washrooms There but were out of order when I was there.
Neat stop on a roadtrip
Nice little place to stop and stretch the legs.. Great little MA and Pop restaurant next door Lucy Loos opens at 11. But excellent food at great prices.
My wife has a fascination for big oversized coins, so this is a good addition to the nickel and twoonie.Unfortunately the attraction was 20 km out of our way and roped off for some reason?! Public facilities closed too.Cool fact: this spot was the location set for A&Ws coffee advertisement... Guess how much their coffee costs? Hint, look in the background.
Nice monument... nice walk on the boardwalk too. The grass was freshly cut and there is a picnic area.
Great place to top if driving through the area! Washrooms available beside the monument and what looked like great new boardwalk trails. Sadly didnt have time to do them.
Beautiful spot for sunsets/birding. Watch your step though!
Nice spot for a quick photo in Sault St.Marie! Especially if you also went to the nickel in Sudbury! Route 17B takes you along the river and eventually connects back to the Trans Canada Highway. Reno was taking place to redo the roads so parts of it were gravel. Otherwise, good memories!
Nice, I just stay for 1 minute to click picture, but its really lovely
Just of the trans Cdn.hwy.Nothing special.Stayed 10 minutes.Took pictures.Stay on 17B westbound and will take you to 17 to the Soo and west.
Fantastic Loonie! Very impressive. Cant recommend it enough
A small out if the way town, Echo Bay, has a lot of charm. The loonie was designed by an artist who resides in Echo Bay.
Must visit this milestone, local food place next door is delicious. Location facility is only open during the peak season.
Really cool huge loonie with a plaque that tells you about the loonie history and the township. I like this better then the nickel in Sudbury even though the Loonie is smaller
I have a picture of the big nickel in Sudbury drove past overnight unfortunately no pictures.. Im sure its worth stopping for during daytime.
A really neat monument. The only thing odd is the area it was in and felt...iffy. nonetheless a quick rest stop with a quick board to read.
Ended up on a dirt road for part of the journey to get to the Loonie, but cool to see and the route back to the highway was a great alternative!👍😁
Really neat monument to visit! It’s amazing that the Loonie, used ALL over our country in every corner from east to west, was invented in this place. Super cool. Really easy access for anyone driving! Easy parking. Also, for bonus hiking, there’s a beautiful marsh boardwalk just behind it with a pleasant trail and some nature views!
Great little stop on the way south from the Sault. Just 20 minutes to Echo Bay and back onto 17. The kid loved it. Made $5 in loonies for 5 laps around. Exercise before the travel. ✌Also a nice wildlife boardwalk!
Very interesting find in Echo Bay, just outside of Sault Ste. Marie. I wish more people knew about it as it is a very cool coin to see. The loonie, along with the existing Toonie in Campbellford and the Nickel in Sudbury, are the largest coin monuments in the world.
I learned of this place through Instagram. It was a great pit stop. There are picnic tables around. We stopped for a quick lunch before continuing our road trip! This is one of three coin monument I know off in Ontario.
Only stop here if you have to. Nothing to see here. Only benefit is the ability to stretch your legs after a long drive, other than that, keep driving.. not worth a detour
This is a pretty neat stop. It is what it is, but its worth seeing if you have the time. Room to stop an RV and eat lunch too, and if you saw the nickle, you might as well stop and see the loonie!
Just so happened to meet a friend of the artist, which was really cool and we learned more than what was on the plagues! This drive was lovely as well, worth the little detour off the highway
Big loonie with a small walking path behind it.
What more can be said - an interesting loonie monument located off the highway in north ontario. There is a town path that looked interesting that left from the parking lot, but weather was poor during my visit. Could make for an interesting spot for lunch on your roadtrip.
Nice nature paths. Use caution when entering the old boardwalk. Dont forget to see the big nickle in Sudbury.
Cute loonie monument. Not as big as I thought but it’s a fun stop.
Not as impressive as the big nickel in Sudbury, but its a fun stop on a road trip. The nearby Lake George marsh has very pretty boardwalk that makes for a nice walk through the marsh.
The big one dollar, a good place to take a rest and taking some interesting photos. Why not make a stop here?
Visited this monument while on a cross Ontario road trip. Its pretty neat to check off on a list of giant things around Ontario (giant nickel in Sudbury, giant Toonie in Trent Hills).
Its a simple commemoration display, and one thats fun to show youve visited.
The monument is well maintained and boasts some pretty gardens and picnic tables around - an ideal quick stop on your road trip. There are also information plaques filled with short snippets of the loonies history. If you want to linger theres a boardwalk literally next to the monument that takes you through a short exploration of the neighbouring marshland of Lake George.
Nice monument to the Loonie and it’s creator. There’s also a pleasant boardwalk at the location to enjoy a nice stroll thru the mash lands out to the river. Take a break along 17B instead of the new highway and stretch your legs.
Just the little monument with a few benches here around a very small ground here. This to relax for a bit during your journey in the quiet environment.Wouldnt be a bad idea to stop by if you are looking for a place to sit down and eat (your own food or food bought from elsewhere)
Exactly as promised! Nothing much else around - theres a little restaurant next to it and some picnic tables. Its about what youd expect!
Nice monument of the loonie in a small park with a conservation area and wetlands near by. The wetland boardwalk area was closed when we went so I cant comment on that portion of the park. A lot of detail in the coin itself and I found it very impressive that it was identical to the real thing. If you can, come give it a glimpse. I have found the Toonie monument and the Big Nickel monument as well on our road trippin journey. Enjoy it, I did...
