Longtail - Eclectic restaurant in Taipei, Taiwan
Excellent food. Outstanding service. Well deserved Michelin star. I asked the wait staff what a specific ingredient was. She wasn’t totally sure of the answer but she later came back to the table to show me what I was asking about cause she looked it up on her phone. That’s what I call service.
I probably wouldn’t have set my expectations at a relevant level if this place has not received the Michelin star. I was expecting it to be at least comparable with others on a gastronomic level. The food is not bad, just not very spectacular. Nothing really jumps out with a wow factor (a little me-too or boring).Technique, ingredients, combinations, complexity are only about average. Maybe their mix drinks are awesome given they have put focuses on their bar area. I wouldn’t know since cocktails arent my thing. One more serious flaw on that day - knowing their AC was supposedly “malfunctioning“ on the 35c day, the staff only adjusted it to a lower temp after being told (helped a tiny bit).If it was me and if I knew the AC isnt cool enough, I would have kept it on low to begin with. What the heck were they saving for?! Somewhere common sense was lost there.
We were here to celebrate my birthday, and we liked the meals so much , such a casual and chilled atmosphere
1.appetizers were disappointing, uni doesn’t taste fresh2. the fish was lukewarm, but the sauce is good3. the steak is good but the plating was awkward4. desserts were good
Good fine dining restaurant. Food taste and service is above average.I love the ala carte food (which is available for order after 9pmand their drinks! I personally love the shrimp sliders burger. Yum n satisfying! Price-wise this is leaning more towards the higher-end for the set menu. While for the ala carte is still considered affordable (TWD 400-500, around TWD 1300 for the steak)considering its a michelin 2020 awardee.
Presentation and service was excellent, and food was good but if nothing really stood out flavor-wise. I enjoyed the cocktails in the pairing by themselves, but there were a couple that I didn’t feel really accentuate the food.
The vibe was great, the food was amazing! I love the fresh fig appetizer, the grouper, and crispy shrimp burger and the beef fillet was the best, very tender and the dressing was flavorful! We did not go with the cocktail paring, the Australian Shiraz red went really well with the signature set menu!
Kind of stumbled upon this restaurant on Facebook or something when I was looking for new trendy place to dine in with a friend. Due to the pandemic, there are only 2 set menus and they both offer very different items but the prices are similiar. I cant emphasize enough the importance of ordering the cocktail pairing with the food. The items tasted much better with alcohol because the cocktails were just so inventive and complementary to the dishes. The food items were a bit hit and miss. There were a few items that I did not like, but they comprised a set of unique fusion plates. I would definitely come back again for the cocktails.
Here is my very fair and honest opinion about Longtail. A few friends that dined here had recommended this spot knowing I’m big on food so I got the chance and of course opted for the high end price point. I thought the setting was decent with the sort of bar feel to it. When each dish came, the presentations were well prepared. The taste was above average as well but I expected to be wowed by this place as I had high hopes of it being another Raw, Impromptu, or Mume. As the evening course was ending I pretty much had a 3 star rating in mind, that is until I was blown away by the two different desserts they served. This gave it the push to be 4 stars and a chance to win me as a repeating customer again. Yea I would say give this place a shot, will probably enjoy it. As for me I take a round two to try their other dishes.
Had extremely high expectation for this Michelin star restaurant, the starter and dessert were amazing ! But that is..........To be short, this fusion restaurant is walking in a very fine of absolute genius or plain mediocre......
Literraly the best restaurant I had in Taipei. Well deserved 1 Michelin star. The foie gras dumplings were to die for 🤤
Came here for my partners birthday dinner, 1st proper fine dining dine in covid style after 3 months of no dine in allowed in Taiwan. Had heard about this place a lot so I decided to book it for him. Truly doesnt disappoint. There were 2 set meals to choose from, and everything lived up to the standard i expected from this Michelin star restaurant. Staff were attentive and friendly too.Only thing was my partner had a really bad stomachache after the meal and the next day and we have no idea why. He had some dishes i didnt, but staff were quick to attend and investigate. Doesnt change the fact that we still had a really good time at the restaurant, perhaps it was just something that didnt sit right with him, but id still 100% recommend this place to people to have a date night etc at.
With the decor of a bar and despite some creative cocktails (think matcha), Longtail sells itself a bit short as its fusion dishes (ranging from Uni on crispy rice to foie gras dumplings to a shrimp “burger”feature some of the best fusion cooking in Taiwan. The signature Wagyu is especially memorable
Decent food and creative plating, also comes with a variety of drink selections, nice service as well, definitely coming back!
Very relaxing environment, overall a great place for a drink with creative food. Definitely go back for uni rice ball and shrimp burger!
The fig toast has a balancing taste , perfect for appetizer. A bit disappointed with the grouper though, the heavy seasoning overwrite the fish natural sweetness.
Most of the meals are good. But some are hard to understand. Cocktail are fine but not so special. 6000 for two people.
Long tail really needs another look at their customer service and attitude. Somewhere along the way, they’ve become stiff, uncaring and even rude. We used to love coming here but recent changes have left a sour taste in our mouths.Let’s begin with the reservation experience. It is now totally automated and impersonal. The restaurant also requires a reservation fee, which is absolutely understandable. However, the “rules” listed online mentions that the reservation will be cancelled 10 minutes after the specified time with no refunds. We were running 20 minutes late and we were not able to call in to confirm we were still coming. Furthermore, no one called to confirm with us. This made us walk into the restaurant with some uneasiness, as we were unsure of the status of our reservation. When we asked the host about this, they smugly replied with “we don’t answer calls after 6pm”.To make matters worse, our favorite dish came more burnt than we were used to. We literally come specifically for the fig ricotta toast. When we politely inquired about the toast being more burnt than usual, the waitress told us confidently we were mistaken. It is always this burnt. Well, our fond memories and pictures of this dish says otherwise but obviously she knew best. We sincerely hope the staff improves. This really is one of our favorite places in Taipei but for a starred restaurant, service should come first and we did not feel that way this time.
A fusion of Asian and western restaurant. The presentation is good, but the taste is not impressive. Some of South East Asian foods are included in the dishes. The server is friendly and nice, but the training needs to be improved. Overall experience is ok, but not really amazing. Also the location is a little bit far.
I came here when it first opened. When I left none of the dishes were memorable. A sign that nothing stood out. Wasn’t impressed. There was 4 of us and all I remember was that the cocktails were all too sweet. But the service and ambience was good. I went again last night in hopes that perhaps the dishes improved. NAH. Service was great. Ordered d Fashioned and it was good, but on sweeter side. We basically ordered most of the starters.Fried Chicken - came with weird sauce. It said sweet potato purée. Tasted like sweet bechamel sauce and just sriracha. Maybe something citrusy or spicy like sambal or harissa would’ve gone better together?Sea bass- I wasn’t sure what the sauce was. It was bland.Tile Fish- The texture was really good. The winter melon was cooked in dashi. It was a simple dish.Soft Shell Crab- This was boring. I don’t even remember the sauce.Fig Toast- This wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t exceptionally delicious. Fig, toast, ricotta sauce and middle tasted like dark cherry sauce reduction.BanhMi- Deconstructed BanhMi was pretty good.Uni- The foam tasted like shiso and Yuzu. It was good. The UNI was so fishy. It was not fresh.I have 3 starts for the service and the ambience. I probably wouldn’t go back again. Unimpressed the second time once again☹️
The restaurant has been recommended by the Michelin Bib Gourmand for two years, seeking to interpret local cuisine and history with Taiwanese ingredients🌟Its a converted historic warehouse. The first floor is a food supermarket where you can buy selected Taiwanese food. The second floor is the restaurant. The menu is very special, hand-drawn main dishes are categorized according to the development history of Taiwanese food. Also, they offer a variety of special cocktails, so you can enjoy a drink🍷We ordered "牛滷香拼盤"、"牛頰牛肉麵"、"椒麻桂丁雞"、"刈包", the most recommended are "牛頰牛肉麵", "椒麻桂丁雞"."牛頰牛肉麵" is a pot of soup that the waiter pours in after the meal. The cheeks are very soft and delicious. Our favorite dish is "帶骨牛小排麵", but was sold out when we went😭"椒麻桂丁雞" the chicken is from Taiwan. The meat is fresh and juicy and the outside is crispy. I like this dish very much😍.
Came here to celebrate Valentines and we ordered the experience menu set with cocktail pairing. Everything was delicious, elegant with inventive interpretation of food. Some flavours were familiar but presented in a creative and unique way. They really nailed the texture for us. We loved the laid back atmosphere and funk/disco music selection was a plus. Great place for an intimate date. Easily our favorite in Taipei. Highly recommended. ❤️
Thoroughly enjoyed the night before catching a flight back. Good food, great vibes. Level of service was on point, from the minute I walked in I felt welcomed. Simon, Zoey and Yang were super friendly and professional the whole time, with Simon even making sure that I knew where the nearest train station was to catch a train to the airport! Totally deserved their Michelin star.
An Asian fusion restaurant/bar that has a one star rating in the Taipei Michelin guide of 2019. A little strange as it isnt a fine dining joint, but more of a bar that serves refined Asian influenced dishes and offers cocktail pairing instead of wine pairing. Overall a very enjoyable experience with many of the deep fried dishes very enjoyable. The foie gras dumpling was the highlight of the meal.
We had $2880 and $1880 dinner set each just so we could try many varieties. Plus a $980 cocktails pairing, 4 cocktails. Liked the ambience, dark decor, it is more of a bar atmosphere. Basement also has a warm seating area, possibly for private parties. Service was excellent, very attentive with detailed instructions to each dish. Seafood dishes were all very delicious, such as the uni rice, shrimp burger, fried shiroko, abalone porridge. We were most disappointed with the waygu and steak dishes. Dont think they are of high quality and were not cooked in a way to bring out that special beefy flavor. The $1880 has a much higher CP. Not an expert in cooktails, but prefer wine pairing.
Excellent food and atmosphere is very nice. English & Chinese menu. Waiter will introduce the dishes briefly after place the dishes on the table. The taste between different food materials are balanced. Recommended.
We really enjoyed the dinner. The dishes are full of bold flavours, yet overall balanced. The pairing with cocktails is so interesting, like icing on a cake. Highly recommend.
I came here for dinner to celebrate an anniversary. The overall atmosphere is great sort of like a laid back speakeasy. Table seating is very limited and not too intimate as the tables are relatively close together so I would not recommend the place for romantic dates. My partner and I tried both tasting menus ($18xx and $28xx). This was our second time here and we wanted to try more of the menu items so we thought the tasting menu was the best option. The menu items were creative and tasty. The only item I was disappointed with would be the wagyu skirt steak which was very chewy and greasy. Overall had a great experience but would only recommend a few menu items such as their shrimp slider, fried chicken and Kaya toast dessert.
Omg. The set menu was great! Wagyu dumplings, mango dessert, and shrimp sliders were to die for as long as everything else. Service was great with set menu but overall. Cocktail pairings were on point. This place deserves its star, and for the price, its amazing. They did great with incorporating local ingredients or local dishes with modern twists. Many try, but kind of fail, probably due to the difference in local and Western palettes. I think they did a phenomenal job! I hope they continue. Affordable, delicious, and great service! And also for those complaining about portions. Its called quality.
Cocktails were good, made better by an enthusiastic bartender. I think this is more of a come-here-for-the-food place with interesting cocktails to go with it, and probably better with a date or group. To that end, the dumplings and bao were great. Like an upscale alternative to a late night greasy food binge, but with all the satisfaction.
One of the best fusion restaurants I have tried in Taipei. Also a michelin one star restaurant. Each dish is so flavourful and a perfect combination of the East and the West😋All the dishes are so good I can’t tell which’s the yummiest!! But some of the most impressive dishes included the kaya desert, grilled pork bun, shrimp slider.Their Cocktails taste quite well too!
Loved it. We reserved a corner booth two weeks in advanced. Great service, staff is well trained and gave detailed explanation of each dishes when they are served. We went for the long tail experience course menu. 1880nt per head IRC, table for two, added the cocktail pairing option, forgot the price for cocktail pairing.Requested to not have whiskey based cocktail and they accommodated without hesitation, service and pairing on point. Was snooping around but was stopped at the basement, it was booked out for an event, the guest and server was friendly enough to let me snap a pic of the basement.Allows event hosting.
One of the few Michelin Star rated restaurant I’ve been to that did not have a crazy long list to reserve a table. Made a reservation a week before and it was not problem. In fact I’m convinced that you could probably walk in and get a table. Food was great and recommended the foie gras dumplings. Took off one star because the shrimp sliders were a little dry and felt it could be better. I had the Australian beef tenderloin and it was good.
It’s a great place to enjoy delicates dishes and a couple of drinks. All four dishes we had were very very good. I didn’t try raw beef, but my European friend said that’s really good. Fish was tender and crispy (winter melon with traditional Taiwanese sauce, good for Foreigner to try local Taiwanese favor without worry having too heavy taste), bamboo shoots were light grill which brings out its natural sweet favor (I liked it very much). Sashimi with special seasoning and custard apple, and corn sprout unique combination but taste good. I will like to go again to try all other dishes.
Excellent care and pretty great cocktails. Tried 3 cocktails a couple of apps and an entree. All were high quality and carefully prepared. Id hoped for more engagement from the bar staff whilst sitting at the bar, but my wife tells me I am unfairly judging using American expectations. Would definitely go back, again. Wine list by the glass seemed lacking and overpriced, but it seems cocktails are the star of the show.
Came here for the drinks and appetizers. Can’t say much about the food because we didn’t get any main entree. The drinks selection was plenty. We all enjoyed what we ordered. The interior decors were elegant and the overall atmosphere was great. It’s definitely a good spot for some fine dining or if you just wanna chill casually at the bar. A place worth checking out.
Longtail is hands-down my favorite fine-dining restaurant in Taipei. Unique dishes that deliver explosive flavors, and a noteworthy selection of cocktails. Would highly highly recommend their shrimp sliders and kaya toast; ordered it both times during my two visits. The dim-lighting of the place makes for the cozy, intimate ambience. Lovely place. The Michelin star is well-deserved.
Superb experience. We chose the Longtail experience without cocktail pairing. Instead we bought a bottle of wine and enjoyed our night.Because we booked so ahead of time, we had the best table of the restaurant. Our waiter was very enriched in knowledge about every dish. The customer service is fantastic. The food was definitely an experience and explosion of flavor. Even the confites duck foi gras dumpling was exquisite (I NEVER eat duck). The desserts were to die for, amazing how creative this tasting menu is.Our favorite was the shrimp slider. Just close your eyes and enjoy it.The music isnt necessarily my own taste, but I get the concept.. They want to make it hip and young, but elegant and classy. The location is a bit out/on the downtown periphery, but is well worth the commute.Well done Longtail! Hi
Had a fancy dinner here on a rainy summer night. Booked at least 1 week in advance before we came to visit Taiwan. Foods and services are excellent. Especially the dishes are creative in a very genuine way. Very easy to accept with an unforgettable taste. Was very cozy here and we didnt even realize that weve already spent 2 hrs here.
If youre looking to do some Michelin star dining thats highly accessible, then this is the place to go. Dress is very casual - like tshirts and jeans at the bar - but the food is far above casual.I did the set menu with drinks and it was not a let down. Some dishes were delicious and some were life changing. The local flavors are delicate and present in each bite of each course. The accompanying cocktails were great and not too strong, so you can stay engaged in conversation and the flavors of your meal. This is your Taiwan splurge meal. Come and enjoy it.(Tip: You can usually walk in if you avoid the weekend and show up after 8:30pm or so. But making a reservation is easy on their website.)
We each had the $1880/pax menu with cocktails set. The food was fine but the set meal was overall uninteresting and dull. The third cocktail(old fashionedwas at first super strong, after we asked them to adjust it a little, then again, too sweet. The service was nice tho, the manager(or waitertreated us to some shots. All I can say is I expected more from a Michelin one star restaurant.
Fairly good place. Party of 4 but the seating for us was with a small round table up against the front window where 2 of the guest are sitting on fix seats. A little ackward. We had the Chefs "Longtail Experience" menu set. Each also ordered a drink. The food came at a good pace, except when it came to the steak. 2 of us had well done, came about 10 minutes after the other 2. They were done eating their steak when ours came up. The "well done" was not. It was still pink with still some blood. Not what I ordered after the wait. Each of the dishes were all fine overall except for the steak. I guess they dont know how to cook well done steaks. Bill came in under 10K for four and we were overall satisfied. Service was good, they explained every dish.
Really enjoyed this Michelin star restaurant. When I first walked in I thought I was in a low key cocktail lounge but soon learned it’s much more. The course meal was fantastic mixing different flavors and cuisines. The accompanying cocktail pairing exceeded all expectations. Will definitely return soon!
We had a table of 8 and ordered the set menu $1880/pax. It was very well executed and the food was delicious. Chef Kin has refined his skills to another level.
highly recommended Michelin restaurant. The dumpling appetizer and pork main dish are really impressive. All the signature cocktail is deserved a try. I love the night market, though some people might dislike the smell.
The appetizer is much impressed than main dish. The Mona dish- fish is quite disappointing, also the beef is boring.Dinner set menu NT$1880 is quite value for money. The chef performed better in south east Asia flavor dishes.
I had the most wonderful time at Longtail enjoying a selection of their entrees which I was told were better than their mains.Very good selection of wine from everywhere: Italy, France, Chile etc.I really looked forward to this meal as I had learnt beforehand that Longtail was awarded one Michelin star this year.Needless to say, they did not disappoint ! The care and attention to detail that they put in their food is incredible !The service was excellent and the decor hip and trendy.
An amazing Michelin restaurant.I took the "experience menu", in order to try different dishes and tastes (they also have regular menu). The menu included 8 dishes and everything was very tasty!!They also offer signature cocktails (try the "night market" cocktail). The service was also amazing and the price was very affordable for a Michelin star restaurant.Highly recommended!
excellent in everyway! highly recommend booking online. If you arrive early you can usually get a spot at the bar to have a few cocktails before your meal. Some of the dishes that i highly recommend would be the fried chicken, fish, and fig appetizer. The steak main was fairly ordinary in my opinnion. Bartenders are great and you can communicate to customize your own cocktail/drinks. The tasting menu is good for people who want a bit of everything otherwise i would recommend getting more because the dishes are good to share. Also note portions sizes are small, look to order three appetizers and two mains between two people.
Nice atmosphere. Great friendly service! Chef Ming Kin came out to say hi and talk about the menu. Very friendly and still humble. We started to follow each other on Ig. Gave me some restos to try back in HK! Wish I had more chef friends! Music level was just right. First night of new menu after receiving their M star. Good night celebrating Eli’s birthday and meeting Cindi. The Longtail team got my email for a surprise happy birthday dessert since I didn’t hear from them since I wasn’t the one to make the reservations! I’m soo happy about their response on that aspect! Made me sing Happy Birthday to Eli even louder! Food was amazing! Definitely will come back!
