Lone Star Texas Grill - Tex-Mex restaurant in Ottawa, Canada
Food is great when they get it right! Went twice in a row for supper and had the exact same thing but the meals werent consistent! One night the broccoli and steak were so tasty, the next they werent even seasoned!
went there last nightfrom the time we walk in really good atmosphere are waitress was really amazing and for the rib lover you want regret itmy wife was realy happy with her tortila
Food was very good as usual, however it took over an hour to get the food.
Went here for a birthday with some friends. We had an awesome time with all the energy around. The food was good and we enjoyed it. Looking forward for a next meeting in a couple of weeks.
Great time at the bar on Friday night after work. Grabbed a quick burger that was delicious but sadly I couldn’t finish it. Nice quick meal and excellent service all around. My only complaint is that the bartender brought up the Jays game which he should know was too soon to talk about! But overall would recommend the food, the drinks, and the nice environment.
Just a great night out with family from Winnipeg. No lone Star there. They loved it.Service was excellent and so was our food.
Ive got to say - Ive been going to the Lone Star Cafe since it first opened its doors and I remember happily lining up for 2 hours on a Friday night for a taste of something truly special, served up by the best servers in the business who were all clamouring to work there. It has been a pillar of many many great memories for us - I remember craving Lone Star while pregnant with my daughter, who became a Lone Star lover herself - we were there weekly easily - often more. But over the years , this institution has taken quite the turn. I think the franchise model probably is what did it in. It started a long time ago when they took their classic take on nachos off the menu. A small thing...but they were my fave. Their chips and salsa and torts are in my opinion still the best - but everything else has changed and not for the good. I keep hoping Im wrong every time I go back to give them another chance, with more and more time passing between visits. But after my last visit, Im done. Its so many small changes over the years that have made my favorite place to eat to barely visitable. Theres the poor quality of the chicken, the - more often than not - expired or very unfresh guac, seriously over-inflated prices (dinner for 2, no alcohol $100), and most recently, the removal of their classic refried bean option. On top of that, the absolute dingy-ness and disrepair of the Lemieux Avenue location whos bathrooms are absolutely vile, steps outside a tripping hazard, and to add insult to injury gave 2 of us food poisoning. Totally a sad day of realization for me - but I think maybe the Lone Star ship has sailed. Some locations are definitely better than others in terms of cleanliness, but the quality and price of the food is consistently disappointing across the franchise.
Arrived at lunch time. The restaurant was not busy, however service was extremely slow. Ordered one of their classic items, the chicken fajitas, which should be a high volume / quick item, and we waited for an unacceptable amount of time. Additionally, the side of rice was stale when it did arrive.I have been to other Lone Star Texas Grill locations and did not experience these issues.
We havent been to the Lone Star in a few years and we dont think we will be back ever again. For starters our meals came to our table cold. Remember when the fajitas were brought to your table sizzling hot. No more. The portions got skimpier and prices got higher. We had to ask and paid extra for items that used to be included in their fajita meals i.e. rice, guacamole. The service however, was great. So its been 3 weeks since i contacted lone star as they suggested and since then no further contact. Its obvious they do not care about their clientele they are only interested in their financial gain.
All The food we ordered was completely COLD!!We were so hungry could not wait more to change the food. Also the waiters did not even offer us !!!She just said sorry!
Pretty disappointed with the service we received tonight. We ordered fajitas for 2 and asked for half of the order to take home. This request was made while ordering and long before food came out. When the waitress came back with the food, she put everything down at the table then confirmed half the order was to-go before picking things off the table and bringing them back to the kitchen to pack up. Weird approach but ok.At the end of the meal all we tried leaving with our to-go food only to find out there was no meat. When we asked the waitress she admitted to leaving it on the table after serving us. She then refused to give us more meat and insisted that since we ate it there was nothing she could do. Mind you there were about 10 people at the table and more than half ordered fajitas. Everyone shared and there was no way of knowing that the food we asked to have to-go was on the table. Now Im home with a 30$ bag of tortillas and peppers. Yum.
Quality had dropped significantly lately. No one to host us when we got there stood for 10 min before anyone even greeted us. Food quality overall has changed.
We went here with friends, we sat in a booth near the door. I ordered a Fajita Bowl, it was delicious. Our server, was really friendly though the whole dining experience.
Great service and food. I enjoyed Ribs with Loaded Mashed Potatoes and a Ceasar my way. My friend enjoyed Fish Tacos and wine a good experience.
Finally getting back to some great places to eat. My daughter and 4 yr old grandson loved it. Food was awesome, staff was amazing. My grandson ate so much, it was great.
Food was really good. You can watch them doing their own tortilla which is fun. Also if you have not tried alligator you can find and should try bite size alligator.
What a joke. This was my first dine in experience since covid started, and it was one disappointment after another. It started when I arrived. There were 2 guys standing behind the podium talking to each other, and I waited for one of them to greet me... but no, they just kept talking to each other. Finally a girl came, saw me standing there and right away offered assistance and seated me with my group. Our server was decent. She was friendly. Unfortunately my silverware was dirty. There was caked on cheese all over the tines on the fork. I ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich. I thought i was safe with the chicken... but no. It looked nothing like the picture or description... hand breaded chicken breast... McDonalds makes a better chicken sandwich. What I received was something that looked like 3 leftover chicken nuggets from a kids meal on a stale bun. The nuggets were dried out. No lettuce, tomato like the picture. And a pitiful drop of bbq sauce. The bottom part of the bun was toasted and dried out to almost crouton consistency. This was by far the worst dine in experience foodwise I have ever had.
Had a reservation for 9. Drinks were good. Food took more than 40 minutes to arrive and it got to the table 20 minutes before we received cutlery, which we had to ask for and also had to go and find someone to bring it to the table! When the cutlery finally arrived, the server said they had run out! The food was ok but definitely not worth the price paid. I was shocked to find out I had to pay extra for guacamole and the portion received was small. Unlimited delicious tortillas for the bland fajitas, served with tons of onions, a few sweet peppers (both over cookedand a "boat" of toppings that quickly ran out! In addition to the food and service issues, the chairs were falling apart (4 of the 10 at the table)! I dont know if this location is having staffing issues or if this is a problem with the brand, but Im not sure Id go back. For an average of $50/person (meal, beverage, no dessert, tip (nothing was the servers fault)), this was not a good value or a good experience.
Was there Friday night for dinner. Didnt have striploins, beef rib steaks or 10oz top sirloin, the nachos didnt come with salsa and has a bunch of lettuce on top for some reason, and the rest of the food was only alright. I expect better for those prices. The service was really good though, and had an awesome waiter.
Good food, a variety of margaritas to try. A little on the expensive side for tex mex but the fresh tortillas make up for it.
Very nice Texas style restaurant, friendly employees. Overall the food is good but overpriced. The outside of the restaurant is not very inviting and needs an update.
Enjoyed everything that I ordered. My first time eating their food and definitely not the last. 100%recommended
As always, delicious food and family favorite. Was super easy to order food online while shopping and then pick up on the way home.
The takeout service is absolutely ridiculous you get put on hold 3 times and talk to 3 different people. Finally I place my order the guy sounded rude and didn’t even say bye before he hung up. I use to go here all the time for years but the last couple of years this restaurant has gone down hill.
So disappointed food has gone down hill I’ve eaten here for years the tortillas are so small and the food was so cold I ordered fajitas the steak was so tough… was so craving it and couldn’t even eat it so disappointing:(
Great food! I got double bacon burger and its so good!! Love it! The server is very nice Aswell. Well done!!
Good place for drinks and dinner. The restaurant was very busy, but staff worked harmoniously together to get food out. Quick and great service
The oldest location sits on Baseline and Fisher and is famous for what started the whole chain right here in Ottawa and the heart of this location is the bar or the booth styled eating now more commonly know around Ottawa. It make it a great place to wind down after work. The personality always speaks for itself though and you can read the owners own review. That said. I would like to give you a taste of each location around the city. Downtown is easily big style Texas and it is in its own right its carries a business approach to Lonestar.Want more a family vibe? Kanata location is easily the place to be, wide open and more of a social focused atmosphere for many groups of big gathering. A community hall kind of approach.Party center for older, young even those in college. Goes to St.Laurent.. the whole building is iconic, and they have a different areas that are tailored to the kind of party you want to throw. Weather its a paint night, sit down at a bar, booth or wind down after work this location has it all. It even use to have a mechanical bull.
I really need to go here more often. I have an enjoyable experience everytime. Thr food is always good! Service is great! It is often a busy place but that doesnt affect the result. I had the enchiladas but you can also never go wrong with their famous fajitas. Yum!
Very hit and miss location. Got a quesadilla to go while in the middle of a move, didn’t realize until getting home that my quesadilla didn’t come with the side I ordered OR the dipping sauces that are supposed to be included. Still not bad, just a little disappointing. Also got the churros, which had cinammon but no sugar, and a caramel sauce that tasted more like coconut - I actually didn’t mind that part.
Generally alright, good service, only issue is the surprise piece of chicken I found in a burger I specified only have cheese and bacon (not notified of the chicken nor was its addition obvious on the menu unless Im blind).
Atmosphere is fantastic, the woman at the front was pleasant and quick to sit us. Our server was Coyote he was absolutely wonderful, kind, quick, funny and efficient. The food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend and will certainly be back.
Not a bad place to eat, loved the service but Im not sure why the drink menu was so small :( but still wicked fajitas
It was really great! The free nacho chips were warm and crispy and the salsa was good. My son had the enchiladas and my dad and I had the chicken fajitas. What was also really nice was that we were able to get corn tortillas instead of regular tortillas for the fajitas.
Excellent food and phenomenal staff! We were a large party and everything was quick and efficient!
Love it service is beyond exceptional staff are super nice and friendly the food here is beyond good and don’t get me started on their margaritas! Their are better margaritas in the city than lone star I find their margaritas watered down and it taste like they just mixed syrup and alcohol which in my opinion isn’t a real margarita, but either way on a hot summer day that mango pineapple margarita SLAPS! So I recommend going just know they are known for their margarita, but is it the greatest not SOO much
Been going here for 30 years, was my favorite place for my birthdays. Its lost a lot of its fun character. I feel like its getting pricier as quantities get smaller. Cant say its bad food but I go other places now
Great location and friendly staff. Our office luncheon was well hosted and we were blessed with a very knowledgeable server. My only complaint (minorwas their draft beer selection. I would have liked to see a local craft beer option to promote local breweries.
My family went for dinner and had the best service! We had Ricoshet and Tennessee serving us and they were fantastic! They were super attentive, incredibly nice and were always quick to answer when we needed something. I will definitely be back and hope to have them as servers again soon!
Just picked up take-out for Mothers Day and the steak for the fahitas was un-edible, it was nothing but fat and felt like eating rubber.SO DISAPPOINTING.
Eid family dinner this is the Buffalo Chicken sandwhich ...it is huge with all three stripes in there! Served with fries
Food was good, my chicken tenders were not crispy. Staff (Rebelwas very accommodating and friendly. Food was super quick to be delivered
It was a pleasant experience, the service was very good the food was good. They have a good variety of different kind of food. The prices are not cheap but not very expensive somewhere in the middle . Seems to be always busy . I recommend
Food was ok. As well as service.Nothing felt special. The queso dip is probably made with a half a jar of Kraft cheez whiz, meat inside was delicious though (I wouldve ordered a dish of that, if it was on the menu)I wouldnt recommend the lobster tail tacos 🌮 .(I dont know why every single seafood dish tastes like Falafel_still good _but not LobestrY enough)I think Ill stick with their stakes and burgers they are the BEST, when it comes to those.
Okay...okay....this place was great..! The ambience, the vibe, was texas... Great menu, great price, great food and drinks too. A must visit. This is blue raspberry drink, honey garlic, non breaded wings and we ordered tex mex platter as well, it was all good food.
Nothing that stood out for me at this location. Service was ok and food wasnt worth the price we paid. They serve standard pub food. My burger was just that...."standard". We were seated next to the kitchen area so it was a bit noisy. Servers were really busy, but it was a Friday night, so I get why. Overall wasnt too bad of an experience but I guess I expected more.
Great place for a get together, nice menu selection and the food is quite good. I had the 26oz steak and it was done just right. The service was good even though when we were there they were quite busy.Reservations are recommended
We ordered the dinner for 4 for $90. Food is extremely good. Tasty and sizzling. The sides are plenty, unlimited. I’d say the beans, the rice and the guacamole are delicious. Tortillas are so soft. Service is good. We will return for sure.
Great decor for atmosphere. Actually I dont think they changed much in the many years this place has been here. The food was great and the service was good too. They have a fun birthday celebration for those going to celebrate. Overall I had a great time. They are very accommodating.
I usually get the 11 ounce hand cut steak, but this time I decided to try the Rib and Chicken Breast combo, and it was wonderful. The breast was cooked to perfection with not a hint of fat or toughness. The ribs were delicious in a honey garlic sauce and just melted in my mouth.I will definitely get this again.
