Lone Star Cafe & Bar - Restaurant in Tauranga, New Zealand
Excellent Staff, the gentleman who looked after us was top notch. Food was quality and generous, its not often I cant finish a meal. Really good location for a meal before the Opera House
Great Mexican food. This places portions were large and the staff were very professional and polite. A wonderful find and worth the visit. Very busy even on a Wednesday must be booked in advance. Thank you for a great night!!
It was OK. The ribs the poppers were fine.
The burgers and burritos are AMAZING! The venue itself is gorgeous and the service is incredible. Thank you to Millie and the team :)
After arriving at 7pm we were told there was no tables available until 8. We went for a drink somewhere else and headed back at 8 as we really wanted to try this restaurant as reviews were high and the place was really busy, to be told for the second time no tables. We then reminded them that we was told to come back and all of sudden a table was available. Sitting down the manager told us there was a little wait for food and we were prepared as it was my partners birthday and we were quite happy to have a drink and wait.It took half hour for drink and food order to be taken followed by a further hour before we received a starter, which I have to add was just dorritos and dips in a bowl.10pm our main course arrived which was dreadful. I have never left any food when I go out for dinner. The manager asked would I like a doggy bag and after watching customers leave, they ALL had doggy bags. This says one thing to me, no one ate their dinner and took it home out of courtesy. The reason must of been because it was vile too.The reason this is a two star and not one is because the staff were working extremely hard and under pressure to deliver great customer service at all times.
Every time we visit the Peak District we always return to Lone Star. Food and atmosphere is always amazing never disappointed, staff are friendly and helpful, wish there was one in London 😊
We had lunch here today, we were not impressed. We are from Florida but now live here so we were quite excited to find a Tex-Mex Restaurant. Our excitement was soon dashed, the margarita was small for over £7 and it did not taste very nice. My husband ordered steak tacos, which had three pieces of meat total, one piece on each taco. My Hippie Chic burrito had no candied japlenos or refried beans but it did have black beans. I would think the chef would know the difference.
Perfect everytime. food lovely and staff are always happy to help. great value for mony=ey
You only getting 2nd star bacause staff was polite and friendly. When it comes to food its definitely 1 star, it was simply terrible. Burgers very overcooked, dry and hard to eat. Coleslaw had only huge chunks of cabbage and onion. Fries very average. Burrito gave us digestive problems day after. Literally McDonalds burgers taste much better.
Absolutely lovely staff, so helpful, gluten free menu was brill still lots of choices! thank you for a nice evening
We ate here as the reviews were so good. Staff were busy and were rushing past us all the time. It was difficult to get their attention. The buttermilk chicken in my burger was so overcooked it was difficult to tell it was chicken, the whole point of soaking chicken in buttermilk is to keep the chicken tender and moist, I didnt send it back as wed been there a while and engaging the staff was difficult. Perhaps it was a one off and we were just unfortunate.
Nice food in general but ordered a beef burrito which was pretty much all bean and rice. The waitress and chef both agreed it didnt have beef, but no compensation was offered so that wasnt the best especially since it was 16.99, which is on the pricy side even for a meat version if you were in a city. Heard great things about this restaurant but now unsure if ill go back which is a shame.
I have a gluten and dairy free diet and this restaurant made it easy. Presented me with my own decent size menu and checked, without fuss, what else I needed. With two teens and a husband eating too we all really enjoyed our food. High quality, decent portions and good value. The staff were lovely. Highly recommend, especially on a special diet.
Lonestar is always fantastic and never lets you down the food comes in massive portions and your never waiting too long for it to come. The staff are all friendly and the prices arnt bad its always a nice treat coming here and i would recomend it to anyone
Thank you for squeezing us in on one of the busiest weekends (carnival day). Staff were very welcoming after no doubt a tiring day and after deliberating over such a varied menu, food was chosen and really was outstanding. Good choice of drinks complimented the meal including craft beers and cocktails, we hope to visit again soon. Cant recommend highly enough. Book in now!
Recommended by a local, and was he right. The staff were so helpful, we had not booked a table but managed to fit us a place to eat. Great food, great atmosphere, great staff, you need to eat here. 👍👍
100% Probably the best burrito I’ve ever eaten! Lone Star was a recommendation from a local whilst we have been visiting Buxton. Can say I am pleased we stopped by. Thank you for the greet service 🙏
First time eating here, my wife and I had lovely food and plenty of it. The staff were very polite and helpful, despite being rushed off their feet. I highly recommend the lone Star, definitely book as it is really busy, especially Friday.
Came here prior to going to see Walter Trout. Friendly clean, and the food outstanding, there no other way to describe it. From the starter to the mains, top quality, portion side well I surrendered in the end. Superb, youll not be disappointed.
I love the feeling this feels me with. How come it is called Lone Star? I feel anything but lonely. I feel like im apart of something great. A family. I love it here, I love the crunchy berger they serv. don’t know the name. All I know is it is crunchy with lots of bits on it. You guys make me want to curl up in front of the fire with a good book because of how lovely you make me feel. How do you make the berger crunchy I have tried myself and burned my hand (gone a & e for it but that’s a story for when I next see youking regards, Terry davids
I really wanted to get a great experience at the Lone Star and maybe but we were disappointed. The service was good and the portions were of a reasonable size, but it was let down by a couple of things. Firstly the food, in particular the deserts were mass produced catering. Requiring little preparation. Which I can understand to some extent, but not for the prices charged. If you are going to charge a premium price you need to provide some more than general catering levels.I am sure you will have a good meal, just avoid the over priced deserts.
Amazing steak, had the tbone and it was absolutely amazing, service attentive but not over the top. Very good price for the quality of food. Will be back soon!
Nice place, good service and big portions of decent food. My only problem was that they seemed to use pancakes rather than tortilla wraps for tacos, burritos etc. Just wasnt what I was expecting lol
Fantastic place to dine in or take out.The staff are brilliant as always. If your a steak fan then its a must try from me 👌🏻👍🏻
One of the best burgers Ive ever had and the customer service was amazing too. Attentive, friendly and caring. I would definitely recommend 👌🏻 👍🏻
Went for dinner last Weds. Had not booked but the staff were very nice and found us a table. They had the Beatles playing all night and a great range of drinks to complement their extensive TexMex menu and specials boards. Will definitely be returning.
This has been my favourite restaurant for absolutely years. I havent lived in Buxton for the last 8 years but still regularly return just to eat here. Quality food, good prices and enormous portions. Quite simply the best place to eat in Buxton by a million miles
Family visit today, lovely food and service."Buxton bird burgers are fantastic ""Bbq ribs a must have""Little amigos cheese burger perfect kids meal""Veg fajitas absolutely delicious"Fairly priced and served well!I must say their allergy menu is one of the easiest Ive had to use, trying to navigate some menus makes it more hassell than its worth but this one was easy to use at a glance 🤩Well done lone star! ⭐️
Visited on a Friday evening so obviously very busy. We booked a table on the day in the morning. Glad we did as the place was full. Food was flavourful and very tasty. Quick service with very attentive staff, would visit again if in the area!
This was our first visit to this Texmex restaurant and we were not disappointed. We were told that the portion sizes were generous and they delivered. We ordered Dirty Steak tacos, Buttermilk Chicken tacos and Steak strips, Tiger Prawns, salad and potato wedges. The staff were very friendly and the total bill came in under £60 (Including drinks), between the three of us. This place is definitely worth a visit while in Buxton.
Just been for a meal while on holiday here. Fabulous! Weve never tried a Texmex restaurant before. Hubby had steak tacos, son had buttermilk chicken tacos, and I had steak strips, tiger prawns with salad and mini wedges. Very generous portions, and delicious. The three meals and two pints came to less than £60, which I thought was reasonable. The service was good. The restaurant is on a first floor, with a few stairs to climb. I think it could be a problem for the less able bodied. They do a takeaway option, but it isnt an extensive menu that I can see.
Pros:The service was very good and the food was presented well.Cons: I found the food to be bland, maybe it was just the dishes I ordered. Ive enjoyed similar dishes at a hungry horse more. The price is fairly high. I had three drinks, the first two were nice but the third has a strange smell but tasted OK.Overall, it seems I paid above average prices for presentation and not for flavour.
Great place. Arrived without a booking and fitted us in between sittings. We had sharing platters and nachos which we all big portioned so all we needed (4 of usas limited time. Very friendly staff and a great cocktail (old fashioned).
Tex Me restaurant in Buxton. Pretty extensive menu, large portions. Food was good not great and a decent price. Atmosphere and service was very good. We will visit again next time we are in Buxton.
Went last night, staff were great and the food was amazing. We had, starters -- Buffalo Chicken wings- Jalapeno poppersThe chicken wings were very tasty, I like spicy food, these had a 4 out of 5 chilli rating but I wouldnt say they were spicy. The wifey loved the jalapeno poppers, I didnt try them but she said they were amazing. The portions are massive, next time Id definitely share between two as I could barely touch the sides of my main.Mains -- T bone steak M/R, dirty fries and side of prawns- Pulled pork fajitasThe steak is probably the best Ive had, cooked and seasoned perfectly. Decent size, the chips and prawns I nibbled because of being full from the starter! The wifey loved the P/P fajitas, again because it was so nice she ate too much!!!!Everything was obviously fresh, including the salads. For drinks, I stuck with pints of lager, the wife had a prosecco, followed by a berry spritz... She liked both!
Great atmosphere, loud (in a homely way), on theme and the food was incredible. Huge portions! We were waiting quite a while for our food, lots of large tables arrived before us, I believe we were waiting 1 hour - 1 hour 30.But the staff kept us up to date, and we had an apology from the manager (not requested, they just care about their customers!)Loved every minute of being there, and if I ever find myself in Buxton again, will definitely be eating here again!
Whaaay were aloud back in. To top it off New Decor... Comfortable sittings.Friendly staff. Great food, wonderful taste. Big portions side sauces on the table were WOW 😍
Amazing food, expect big portions 🤩 staff were very friendly and have made the venue feel really safe during this time.
Amazing food, covid safe friendly staff the only thing is the portions size are very very large
Great service as soon as you enter and everyone adhering to social distancing and COVID rules. Tried a promotional cocktail which was very tasty and would highly recommend. The tacos were so flavourful and the chips tasty. Everything up to scratch and definitely worth 5 stars. Great range of selection on menu!
Genuinely smoked ribs with smoky flavor. Expected to be softer and more falling of bone (as 12 hours cooked but still very very nice.Portions very large and barely could finish all. Steak tacos very tasty. Steak strips not overcooked (medium rare, just how should be.
Been waiting a very long time to visit The lone Star, and finally we did after a very long few months! Was told beforehand the portion sizes are big, which I thought that’ll do me. We ordered the brisket/burnt ends nachos. We was surprised at the size of the beef portions and presumed our burgers would be massive as well. The beef on the nachos in the bbq sauce was amazing and the burnt ends even better! Now, I had the chicken & beef burger, with American style dirty fries. Don’t know if the picture does any justice, but the burger was massive. It’s the best onion ring I’ve ever tried. The southern fried chicken is absolutely spot on and the beef patty was a nice thick piece. Unfortunately, I struggled to eat the last few pieces of beef and probably about 1/4 of the chips. But I will definitely be coming back for round two!! Usual social distancing in place, with staff wearing masks. And as you walk upstairs, a simple track & trace QR code which you take a photo of to enter your details makes it even easier. Was told of a slight delay with food coming out but it was a usual time you’d expect for a busy restaurant. Only issue I had, was that the table was very wobbly but we managed. Highly recommend this place just make sure you’ve got a massive appetite lol!
The Lone Star was excellent! Great atmosphere, very attentive staff, tasty food with generous portions and lovely cocktails. Would highly recommend as the staff and restaurant itself couldnt have been any better! They seem to get busy, so best to book if possible, or go a little earlier to avoid missing out!Social distancing rules were followed with a sanitiser station, toilets reduced to one person in at a time and use of the track and trace app.
Wow, this was a cracking find. Came early without booking on a Saturday evening and no problems fitting us in. A good startQuick friendly service but the star has got to be the meals. So glad we skipped starters, really glad because we came close to be beaten by the main meal. I had the spicy beef and Anne had the beef stroganoff and we were not disappointed. There was loads of meat, a good pile of fries/rice and some salad. My only regret was not being able to finish off all the sauce it was lip smacking.Def adding this place to our must revisit listMany thanks.
Great restaurant. Huge menu and even bigger portions! The drinks are fantastic too. Fills up so make sure to book.
Just like dining in Texas itself!Amazing authentic goods, well thought out decor and lovely atmosphereThe staff were extremely helpful too.A wonderful experience all round!
We were sitting in the Lone star one Saturday evening before a show and was only one of three couples sitting there. Within an hour the place was heaving and we were so pleased we had booked a table. The restaurant sits above the local tap house and has its own amazing staircase leading up to it. In fact they may be quite steep for some people . Its a Lovely looking place thats serves excellent food with exceptional service. The girls do work incredibly hard. You do need a gd appetite though. We were so relaxed that eventually they had to turfe us out because they needed the table. Will definitely return, nxt time we visit Buxton.
Great lunch menu and very good value for money. Way to much for to eat. But also very taste
Great service and good food but in burrito there was too much of onion and less meat and rice and kidney beans but this is my personal opinion. And guys - please take this aluminium cups and provide normal glasses. And finally they know what means the word "spicy" ! Thank you for this. I was eating and crying but happy.
We went to the lone star in Buxton on a Saturday afternoon for a lunch during a day trip in Buxton. The restaurant is relatively easy to find and is located on the first floor of a building relatively close to the opera house. The decoration is a slightly dated (guns on the walls, really? While the music was essentially the same 10 songs looping. Service was somewhat slow, 25 minutes to starters and around 40 minutes to mains. Pricing was moderate (around £7 for starter and £13-14 for mains). We had the calamari and mushroom for starter which were fantastic, followed by the new York chicken and hot n spicy chicken. The food was okay, nothing spectacular, I found the chicken a dry.On the bright side, the mains portions were extremely generous, had to box up the leftovers for our dinner. The dessert was absolutely fantastic and we would recommend the apple pie.
