Archeological exhibits in Viking museum in reconstructed longhouse, plus recreated ships.
Clever presentation, delicious meal, thoughtfully set out reconstruction.
The roleplay by the actors is what makes this experience. In the chieftains longhouse you can dress up like a real viking!Went during off-season, but would recommend going to visit the boats as there is alot to do on the way there. Archery, axe-throwing, blacksmith etc...
We stopped at the museum in September and the opening hours were from 11 to 16 (they close pretty early). We could just go visit the museum very quickly. The staff was super nice and friendly! There is also a souvenir shop and coffee restaurant inside. Very convinient for a quick stop.
Its kind of ok. I missed general history about vikings. Could be more. Most infos were Borg related.
hmm new old house were nice
Really interesting visit, some of the interactive parts were closed as its headed towards winter, but the exhibition, long house and walk down to the Viking ship were all still really great. Also fantastic to learn the history of the region. Highly recommend a visit!
Nice museum, worth visiting
Beautiful museum. The soup served in the long house was amazing and the atmosphere really added to the whole experience.
The experience could be optimized, especially for the price.- the museum part was quite short. Audio guide information was still interesting for objects presented. Didnt watch all the videos however, its quite passive...- the house reconstruction with objects presented is great but lacks of information about the use of each. Maybe some information given in audio guide during the museum visit could be given in the house to make more sense?- the boat tour is a good idea but its far from the main area. And only 2 activities to do during the walk. Activities fit the thematic and are funny, so new ones should be added to rhythm the walk.- Food : why not to offer something more viking than coke & chips...
This museum consist of a house rocontruction. It is a living museum more than an actual museum with the artefacts. The house is nice and I think it is worth seeing. When you think at what time it has been build makes it impressive. You also get a boat ride in a Viking ship replica, shooting arows and throwing axes. Good attraction for those fogy lofoten days.
A wonderful museum about the vikings. You can do viking things like archery, axe throwing or sailing a viking ship. Inside the long house visitors are allowed to touch everything and ask experts many questions. To enjoy this better calculate a minimum of 3 hours.Staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
I was expecting further info about the vikings. There are some activities for children and adults, like a boat trip- but be prepared to walk >1 km to get it.
Really good experience to get to know more about the viking culture.Different expositions with info, dynamic activities (throwing axes, archery), you can sail a Viking boat, you can talk to the Vikings around and theyll give you lots of valuable info.Plus the surroundings are stunning!
Excellent stop to learn a bit more about the Viking age. Aside from a traditional exhibition, most of the museum is hands on. You get to experience what a long house would have looked like on a regular day, get to try viking games, feel the weight of a sword, etc. A journey on the viking ship by the lake was definitely a highlight of the visit, and a way to truly experience a part of history.
Great attraction for kids. The long house is amazing, and the dressed-up family photos are awesome. The activities were a lot of fun, and even the short walk over, through the woods, was beautiful. There was no boat ride when we went, either because of weather conditions, or a broken boat. In any event, we didnt feel the attraction was diminished
Fanatic collection of Viking artifacts all found around the museum grounds and a beautiful recreation of the Viking long house found in this area with living history displays as well. Dont miss the row on the lake with the Viking ship.
This is a really cool museum. You got some activities outside like hawks throwing or boat. Also you can visit the inside part of the museum. You can buy food if you want. We really appreciate it.
As a straight line northman from Sweden I appreciate correct historical presentation without to many presumptions to what we were back in the so called "Viking" era, which is so full of wrong interpretations, making us look brute and cold. All very wrong. This place has a major focus on facts, historical findings.Very nice reconstruction of a longhouse that once stupid here for a chiftain and all his castle and staff.Very nice viking food and good performance and old north singing.
For us it was not worth the visit. High price for a few artefacts diplayed in the first part of the museum, while everything else was made to portray how it wouldve looked like- if you watched the Vikings, there you go.The boat is 15/20min windy walk from the museum building and it holds a small number of people so you will likely have to wait at least an hour for a 30min ride.
The experience highly depends on your expectations towards a museum. The museum has some relics on display and some viking-like outside area with boats, axe throwing for kids and a rebuilt viking house. Theres also a movie shown at the theater which tho doesnt tell historical facts, but rather displays a made up mini-romance film.If you want to actually learn in-depth details about the viking history and culture this isnt for you. If you need to kill a few hours with your kids its alright if youre happy to spend 25 euro per person.Wouldnt come back.
Was a cold rainy and windy day when we arrived, so many of the outdoor activities were on hold. The museum was great and informative and the audio technology was great.
Ok place, not so much to experience tbh, but it was great opportunity to talk with people who do real stuff here, e.g. with a lady who makes clothes, with the one who makes pots out of stone or with people from smithery.
For any Viking culture fan this is it the place to be! Had a great time as this museum, the viking long house is very awesome to see. There are a lot of other stalls you can check. There are also some great activities like axe throwing, bow shooting, and even a viking boat trip
I had a nice time at the Lofotr vikingmuseum. The Viking festival was going on at the time so there where a lot of stands with food, goods you could buy and activities mostly for children. I also booked the Viking Feast Dinner. This was also a nice experience since the dinner took place at the longhouse.
To understand more about this part of history fading between reality and mythology.Do not hesitate to ask questions, people were happy to share and tell more.We were there during the festival (first day), this is clearly the great moment to visit. You can also book a dinner there.Yes it is short, one hour, but you gonna be well entertain and feed.
Very elaborate and interesting museum. The craftspeople and various activities like axe-throwing, arrow shooting and sailing a replica of a viking ship, make for an excellent outing for young and old!
Great place to spend a summer and hot afternoon in lofoten. They have fun activities like archery, hammer throw, horse riding for kids and vikings ship sailing, visit to the museum and the Cheftian homestead in Borg all in 225 NOK for adults.
Great experience. The museum is much huge than we expected, wished we have more time to explore more.
Audioguide worked really well, the exhibition was good and educational. Stuff friendly and all activities - enjoyable, ax throwing and archery especially. We liked all the food, stuffed pancakes in the beach cafe are my personal favourites. One suggestion for improvement could be rowing - wasnt very fun or anything, we just rowed, not in a very organized manner, and then came back. Some kids behind us werent sure at all what to do, so they just sat and wondered the whole way.
EDIT: You can visit multiple places in the area. One of them is a museum and the other one is the longhouse. Museum is located inside the building with the ticket office. This is the museum I talked about in the original review and its the museum thats smaller than the souvenir shop. Consider renaming to Lofotr Viking Longhouse.Museum was a real letdown. Its smaller than souvenir shop. Most of the exhibits are TVs with videos playing. Audio guide is laggy and frequently stops playing. There are no stories about vikings in general only stories about the farm. The farm itself is quite nice and, smiths shop and boat are alright. Overall its not worth the entrance fee.
Good for kids, but not a lot of history / storytelling for adults. There were places to dress up and interact with weapons, games, etc., but the actual exhibit with information about Viking life was really small and simple. This felt quite expensive for a museum you can get through in 30 minutes.
only for those who have a lot of extra time in Lofoten. more suitable with small children. the museum itself is not very informative but very tactile, you can try on and touch a lot of things (clothes, weapons, tools, household items). children can ride on a horse. you can shoot a bow and mark knives. you can boat on the lake on a Viking boat every 30 minutes. walk about 1.2 km to the lake. all entertainments are included in the ticket price, tickets are expensive, for adult is about 23 euros.
My son and I really enjoyed it. We had the lamb soup, and it was delicious. The long house recreation was done well, and we liked throwing axes, doing archery, and seeing the blacksmithing shop.
(Went in summer)A great viking museum with a lot of activities outside and inside. Includes an exhibition, a short movie, showcasing clothing/food/arts and craft (its even possible to try on the weapons and clothing!), as well as activities outside (tour on a viking boat, horse riding, bow, axe-throwing, etc). It feels very lively as live actors are crafting, preparing food and doing activities in viking clothing. Some are sewing, some are baking, there is even a blacksmith actually smithing! They have animals around the museum, its really perfect for kids and adults. The exhibition is showing tools and crafts made around the region. Everything is available in different languages, if you use your phone.I recommend :)
Its quite OK. Missed the audio tour part, since I dont have a 3.5mm jack in the phone. Otherwise that seems like a decent enough idea.Note that theres a fair bit of walking if you want to see everything. Dont do it in your motorcycling gear. At least on a sunny day.The main building is rather small with a few rooms of an exhibition. The reconstructed house was nice, but the boat and other things which you need to walk to were a bit lackluster.
Museum mainly for kids, a place where you can try out archery, have a ship excursion or see how smithy works. But all that experience is rather superficial. What you cant really learn is something substantial about the place you visit, the chieftain house. Who really lived there? When? What was around? Is the interior mirroring a real one or just a playground where you can see old time carpentry or sewing? I recommend it for families with small kids but not for adults who want to learn something beyond the knowledge gained from a variety of TV series.
Great museum, with a mixture of indoor and outdoor areas.Outdoor activities include, rowing a boat, axe throwing and using a bow.We paid to have a meal, which was presented as a viking offering around a fire, with actors who kept to their parts, as well as food and mead. All in all a great day out.
I usually dont go much to museums but even I enjoyed the time here. The technical good equipped museum offers a multi lingual audio guide. Sign in to their local WiFi, browse to the mentioned URL, choose your preferred audio language and then you gotta type the 2 numerical numbers for each station. Either take your own headset with you or rent a wired 3,5" on-ear headset here for free. I personally also liked that the museum offers an outside part and even a short boat ride which we unfortunately didnt use due to lack of time. We haven been there for just 2 hours and I wished to have had at least 1 more hour there.
Unique exposition of Viking history and numerous archaelogical findings. In summer, you can profit from a 20min sail in a Viking ship replica, try archery and axe trowing.
The Viking house and the outdoor where very good. The issue is the exposition with the audioguide: I couldnt connect to the WiFi because it was too weak. Even if you can use headphones directly connected to the screen you cant hear anything and you have to wait because there is only one headphone per screen
Great place to visit with lots to do. Entrance explains how the site was found and its history. The longhouse is well laid out with lots to see and do. Children would love it. Then go down to take a sail on the Viking ship, its well worth it for 30 minutes and try your hand at archery. And there is more
Amazing place. You can touch evryrhing and even dress up.
Visiting the Viking museum was very interesting, there was an exponation, audio guides and an big viking house rebuild. There you are able to eat with atmosphere. Also you could sail or throw axes for example.
Excellent Viking Museum with plenty to see and do.We enjoyed the short film and the excellent exhibition in the main building away from the reception area.Good shop and restaurant for making some purchases or having a refreshment.
A nice insight into Viking life in Lofoten. The replica hut is exceptional.
Didnt have a chance to see the museum, but DID go to the Viking Chiefs Lodge and have a dinner. Great experience!
Interesting Viking museum, lots of artifacts and my 10yr old son loved taking pictures with viking helmets and swords..
Well worth the visit but you definitely need more than an hour so as to really take it all in and enjoy it. Had a fantastic time with lovely people running it 😀
A beautifully restored monument. wonderful climate, phenomenal people. in the summer season, a lot of additional attractions. you must visit this place when you are in the area!
Good amount of information shared in easily understood form. Too bad that the viking boats were so far away from the main attraction. Signs didnt share the distances, only directions.
