Lofoten War Memorial Museum in Svolvaer

A must visit if you are into WW2. It still feels more like a personal collection, but to me, that lends it a unique charm. Many interesting items in there!

An incredibly unique and impressive collection. If I regret one thing it was not talking longer with the gentlemen who I assume is responsible for the whole thing.He was clearly an amazing historian and we regretted leaving as soon as we did. Dont do what we did. Talk with that man.

An incredible private collection of artefacts from WWII in perfect conditions with interesting descriptions and private stories. The owner is very welcoming and happy to explain more in details every piece of the museum. A must for every wwII passionate.

This museum is excellent! Has a complete collection of items from WW2, and there are notes in different languages that makes the visitor dive into the story and history. Really well made, exposed and welcomed.

Im simply amazed of the enormous collection. The owner William Hakvaag told a lot of stories from WW2 I wasnt aware of. If youre in Svolvær - its a must to visit Lofoten War Memorial Museum.

Set in the former telecommunications building , this is a superb collection of both military and civilian from WW 11An absolutely huge amount of memorabilia, all on the ground level ,weaves it story of the occupation from the Nazis and the subsequent trials and tribulations.I have visited many a war museum/memorial or sites ,and can safely say this was very intresting, alot of information but more visual visitWe were lucky ,as we were the only visitors and the museum attended gave us some insightful information which only enchanced our visit!Worth a visit, even if you are not a big war buff ,as this is more than just about specifically the war,more about the people, lives and how a underdeveloped and much less man power force handled themselves ...Moving and gave me a new prospective on events in this Country

One of the coolest museums Ive ever been to in Norway. The exhibition is really huge and includes things that you cant really see anywhere else like Hitlers Snow White fanart. Its a must for any history nerd.

Dont let the small space fool you. This Museum is packed with more items than any other WW2 Museum I have visited.Really rare items can be found here. Keep your eye out for the A.H. signed Disney pictures!The guy who runs the place is an avid collector and has some awesome stories to tell.

Absolutely must to visit if you are interested in the WW2 topic.The museum has a unique collection of original items from the war times that belonged to famous people or were used in some legendary vessels / aircraft.Be prepared to spend minimum 2 hours here (and more, if you are really interestedand get fascinated by the wealth of the collection and the stories they tell.

Impressive collection of military uniforms and objects from the second world war. They have been collecting for 50 years. Most of the items are well described. Some of the descriptions is actually pretty humorous. Here you can see some cool stuff and learn some history. Dont forget to visit the "Gestapo" office (you have to opent he door yourself), it is a pretty scary room. This museum is well worth the visit. The admission was 100 nok per person when I visited.

Each piece of object in this museum brings alive the stories of its owner. All those brought us so close to the memories not to be forgotten.

Wow, gobsmacked at the sheer amount of memorabilia from WW2 this museum has within its doors.Mostly uniforms from German ranks, SS, Airforce, tank crew, foot soldier etc....some British, Norwegian, French, American and Russian uniforms ..lots of weapons some rare others not so, radio equipment, prisoner uniforms and even German xmas decorations! :)...recommended point of interest....will post images later...

REALLY impressing. Visited travelling northbound with Hurtigruta on a wedensday evening. Only 2-3 minutes walk from the ship.

An extraordinary collection and privately owned too. Well worth a visit. Eva Brauns purse and shells from the Tirpitz are superb but outclassed by the recovery of a sailors shirt from a wreck and then finding him alive and living the dream in Canada.

Great museum to vist. All the different types of uniforms that were worn by the great men and women of 1940 to 1945. 10 krona to enter. Quite a small musum but a lot of material and information available there. Wort the vist to Lear about history

A quite unexpected & outstanding museum packed full of amazing artifacts from the war in Norway. This is most certainly one of the best small museums I have ever been to. Well labelled & presented in different languages. Quite excellent.

An amazing private collection of 2nd WW memorabilia primarily related to the local area but covering otber areas and naval matters. A large number of uniforms for both Allied and Axis troops. There is an enigma machine found in the recent past at a local location. The owner speaks quite good English. Entry is 100 NK which given the range of items is reasonable. Allow an absolute minimum of 1 hour to try to absorb the detail.

When you take a look from outside (building), you will not expect much. But trust me, you will be wrong, as I was. Really serious collection of WW2 items. I will not post any pictures, because I think it worth to go inside and check it yourself.

Most amazing WWII museum. Fantastic collection of uniforms and memorable displays. Christmas tree with baubles that feature swastikas, SSsymbols, and a large one with a portrait of Hitler.

Great little museum right next to the Hurtigruten terminal. There is a lot of WW2 stuff to look at in several languages. The museum was open late enough for those on the boat to visit.

Absolutely the best place to visit in Svolvaer. If you have any interest in history you will be amazed at this spectacular collection. A must do!There is so much to see in this small museum, allow yourself at least 2 hours but more if you can spare the time, you will not be disappointed. Information is presented in Norwegian and English. This is by far the best museum I have ever seen. A wonderful and memorable experience.

If artefacts from WWII are your thing, then this place is for you. Stuffed full of uniforms, weapons and other paraphernalia, this small but informative museum is a real treasure trove.

Amazing WWII collection! Each of the items has its stories, but only some of them has a story written in English. It also has a lot of rare items like the Hitlers cartoon drawing

Small museum with a great collection of WWII uniforms and weapons. Only had 45 minutes while the ship was in town, could have used more time.

Huge collection of WW2 military items and memorabilia. Many of them incredibly rare. The museum is small so its a bit crouded, but theres hours of history to explore.

Very interesting with many many many items collected over 50 years. Much to see, to discover and to learn. Definetly worth it, if you are interested in WWII history with focus on Norway. You can take pictures for free but without flash.

Small but densely packed museum, talk with the attendant, lots of additional interesting information, yes that Xmas tree with swastikas and Hitler on the bulbs.

If you are looking for World War II history, this by far may be the most extensive private collection you will find! The owner has been collecting for 40 years and he will be greeting you at the door.

Found this amazing museum during a short stop-over at Svolvaer while on our cruise trip. Wow, what a treasure! Keeper is very warm and welcoming, I would highly recommend!

The krigsmuseum is a must-see in Svolvaer.It showcases uniforms, flags, bits and pieces of all nations, in addition to a presentation of what happened in the Lofoten islands during the war, all of which make this museum a highly recommended place.The explanations are in several languages.

This place has one of the better WW2 collections in Norway and the owner is loaded with good local stories and fun facts!

12march 2017: the view is amazing in winter that it is covered all white. But just bare in mind it may rain number of time in march and the icy floor gets slipery. Better if you have a good shoes with spike
