Local, seasonal cuisine in a shingled house with wood floors & exposed beams, plus a covered patio.
One of the best place in town if you are looking for authentic pizza. I personally love their Indian style pizza’s.Uday and Satvik are customer oriented people. They treat everyone so nicely.Thank you guys. Keep it up.
Although the food and service are okay, this restaurant has some strange and unappetizing smells (in fact, I smelled weird right from the parking lot!It smells like detergent or washroom - so its not confortable to eating there.
Inflated pricing. Can of beer $8Caesar $106 SMALL oysters $22
What a pleasure to go to Locals restaurant. Probably the best dining experience experience weve had in a very long time. Our server was personable and knowledgeable with a great attitude. She had helpful advice for us as it was our first time there for dinner. The food was absolutely delicious! We cant wait to go back again and bring friends and family.
Food was perfection. My partner and I have food sensitivities and the kitchen did an excellent job of accommodating us with gf options. We sat on the back patio in the evening and enjoyed the warm ambiance with a glass of wine and gluten-free Whistler Forager lager. Cant wait to return to Courtenay for more!
Excellent food and amazing deserts. Great wine choices as well both local and new and old world.
Great food, great environment. Pre appetizer sample (which was great and complimented by the house white wine), appetizer (artisan bread oysters- which the pairing sauce was amazing.)ending with main (beef tenderloin paired with potatoes, beautifully placed leeks, and delicious blue cheese topper, with red onion and blue cheese marmalade paired is magnificent topped with a delicious demi glaze. Worth a visit.
We routinely go here to celebrate our anniversary. ♥️ It lacks some of the character it once had when it was The Old House but the old chef is still there. 🙂 The gazebo that was once nestled under the willow tree is gone but the outdoor green is still lovely and provides space from the footpath. We couldnt afford this all the time but it remains a special place for us even as the city continues to grow around it.
Recently, we ate at the Locals restaurant for our 25th Anniversary. We have eaten here in the past and have had a good experience. I must say I was thoroughly disappointed with our dining experience this time. First, we were put in the back by a deck box with no ambiance at all. I am a celiac and unfortunately the waitress did not know what this was. She brought out a complimentary appy before dinner and a complimentary chocolate after dinner and when asked, said these were definitely ‘NOT’ gluten free. She did not bring out a GF substitute. My husband and I shared a Caesar salad and it was brought out with bread in it. I told her I could not eat the salad and she said, just take it off. She did not understand that the salad was now contaminated with gluten. She did bring me a new one. It’s was too bad that our special night was not what we expected. I did call the Manager and suggested they train their staff for allergies so this doesn’t happen to someone else .
We went here for dinner and will never be back. When you walk into the restaurant, it has a very strange, unappetizing smell, to the point that I considered leaving and should have. We got three entrees that were over $40 each and none of them were at all worth it. The salmon was over cooked with a salad and quinoa that did not match the flavours at all. The pasta dish was salty and over seasoned with thyme, not to mention sloppy with poor presentation. The halibut was cooked ok, but not well paired with sides and again over seasoned and tasted like it was reheated. Additionally, we waited around an hour for entrees. Don’t waste your money, it seems as though this place has gone downhill.
Locals has been a favourite of ours for many years & we always gave 5 stars, until last night. My husband had the scallop & prawn green curry, which was like a veggie soup, the prawns & scallops were cooked just right, but the watery sauce was unexpectedI had the beef tenderloin & mushroom pasta, the sauce was not at all creamy, it was very liquid. The service was excellent as always, I guess we should have said something at the time, we didn’t because we were with friends.Hopefully next time we come we will not be disappointed.Margaret & Doug Harris.
Our entire experience right from making reservations on was fabulous. The food was top quality and our service was amazing. The atmosphere was quaint and homey. Would definitely recommend.
Would 100% recommend. Will 100% go again. We ate there twice in a single day. The service was amazing both times, and the atmosphere was so peaceful and lovely. We had lunch there, it was amazing. We ordered the mussels and the prosciutto wrapped salmon wrap with a Ceasar salad. Then for dinner, we had some complimentary goat cheese tarts followed by the oysters and the pork belly and scallops; the scallops were cooked perfectly and the flavors were balanced so well. We then had the seafood trio and it was spectacular. The salmon was perfect, the prawn juicy, the scallops perfect and the tuna was delicious. The vegetables were also very good and balanced the seafood beautifully; the rice was seasoned so well. We finished with the creme brule trio and some complimentary dark chocolate truffles. My partner was working here but I flew here from Calgary just to try this restaurant with him and I have zero regrets.
Service was excellent. Warm evening on the patio and entertained by the bunnies. The amuse-Boucher was a nice touch along with the tasty hazelnut chocolate at the end was a nice touch. For a $45-50 meal, was very surprised. Out of the four of us, only one was pleased with their meal. A bit underwhelming.
Celebrating our anniversary and have enjoyed a few meals at this restaurant in the past. Reservations are recommended. Menu selections were unique with the focus on in season and fresh. Service was a bit sporadic, but its a difficult time for this industry. Menu prices are at a premium so be prepared. Nice selection of wines to compliment your meal. Unlike other restaurants, there is no acknowledgment for special occasions.
Had dinner last night. The food was phenomenal. Definitely a dining experience. Service was the best also. Had an accident with red wine on a white sweater. Our server, Kia, took it to the back and cleaned as much as she could and I got the rest at home. Not many servers would go out of thier way like that. Thankyou Kia
Amazingly fresh and flavourful! Enjoyed the Seafood Trio and finished with this Rhubarb Cheesecake. All meals were thoroughly enjoyed - plenty of sighs and smiles!
If you’re looking for old school fine dining this is the place. The menu boasts dishes that no one takes the time and care to serve anymore-an absolute gem in a world of fast food and a lack of creativity! The ambiance is reminiscent of the best mountain lodges and the service, friendly and knowledgeablePrices were very reasonable for the care and quality representedLocals is a must visit for a special o assign or anytime
Locals is a definite MUST if you are visiting the Comox Valley. The food is beyond compare. Youd have a hard time finding a better restaurant anywhere on Vancouver Island or BC. It is a dining experience for all of your senses. As well, the service was impeccable. Our waitress, Kendra, was so in tune with our needs/wants and had a delightful personality. An entourage of equally pleasant staff supported her service. Thank you so much for making our dining experience truly that, an unforgettable culinary experience.
Adorable restaurant with a great selection of seafood. They do have vegan and vegetarian options but they are definitely very limited. Try their delicious virgin blackberry mojito.
Not very impressed. We booked to stay at the old house hotel and made a reservation for a special occasion months in advance for diner. Then we get a call the night before telling us that they are canceling our reservation and closing for the weekend due to heat and staffing issues. Poorly handled call by the hostess and not a great way handle things.
Amazing. Perfect place to go for coastal food and a beautiful trail following the military base to walk it off!!
Wonderful server and the ambience and food was exquisite. Highly recommend the beef tarterelle and chocolate raspberry dacquoise. Thank you Locals for such an enriching culinary experience.
AMAZING! Amazing food! Amazing service! Amazing drinks! Amazing desserts! Amazing atmosphere! 10/10 would HIGHLY recommend! Best food I’ve had in a long time!
Well prepared and excellent service here in a beautiful setting. The patio garden is a delightful place to dine. We had mussels, and seafood chowder; both delicious!
This is one of the the best restaurants weve visited in the last couple of years. Our selection includes Seared Scallops & Pork Belly, Miriams Vegetarian Cakes, and Chorizo Crusted Sablefish. We really like the use of squash and black bean purées. The service was excellent. We did not sit in the garden as it was a bit cold, but we had a view of the garden. If this was in Vancouver, if would have been booked weeks in advance and I would visit regularly for the Miriams Vegetarian Cakes.
Great! Food and service was the best we had during our 4 nights in Courtney. My wife and I really enjoyed the seafood pasta.
Hands down one of the most beautiful restaurants I have been too, and the food was incredible as well as the service. It looks like a place magical fairies would live, the greenest grass, and adorable bunnies hopping around on the grass. The property is just lovely. Patio is where it’s at!My boyfriend and I both got 2 appies (the pork belly scallops are incredible. Melt in your mouth. The tuna tataki was like a flavour explosion, so good!I got the dish that had steak and fresh hand made pasta in it, it was so good. The best was the desserts. The toffee cake or pudding was incredible and another dessert that is like a foamy crispy marshmallow thing that melts in your mouth. So good. This will be my special date place forever I think.
Got free dessert! Amazing food.
Fantastic! A Delicious Memorable Experience! We went for a late lunch Canada Day. We ordered two charcuterie boards, mussels, a dessert and a bottle of wine. Abundant, delicious and reasonable. Pat, the waitress is relaxed, warm, has a sense of humour and very efficient. We will be back. A gem in the Comox Valley!
Great food, great atmosphere, great service. At $100 per person for dinner including appie, wine, dessert, and coffee, you cant complain about the price. As sophisticated as any 5* city restaurant. Be thankful Courtney has one.
A lovely atmosphere, well worth the price for that special event.I went early evening so it was pleasantly quiet. If one thing could be improved, it would be to warm the bread appetizer and/or use softened butter
My mother-in-law and I came here for lunch today, which overall was good, however I found a very large hair inside of my meal after taking a few bites, which understandably extinguished my appetite. The staff remade the dish, but I received it after my MIL had already finished her meal. Much to our surprise and dismay, the server still charged us for my plate despite the hair/remake situation. Other than that disappointing experience, the appetizer we had was delicious and I was happy to see a decent amount of vegan dishes on the menu.
Beautiful building and staff with a nice vibe. Good food at decent prices. I had halibut on risotto. Delicious. Blueberry pie desert was fantastic.
This used to be one of my favourite restaurants on Vancouver Island and one I always recommended . I (with friends and family have dined here many times . Unfortuneatly , tha last number of times (over a period of several monthsthe quality of food has gone down significantly. Portions are noticeably smaller and many of their signature dishes are no longer on the menu . The menu is now very average as is the food while the price point has remained high. The setting is still lovely but it is no longer the great restaurant it was.
Fantastic ambiance with decent food. Im not sure its worth the price though. A couple of vegan options on the menu, and I chose the crab cakes (2.5/5). They were quite flavourful (bit spicybut the portion left a lot to be desired since it only two small pieces. A few things to make this better would be to make the chickpeas crispier, roast the cauliflower more, and add flavour to the aioli (which didnt taste like much but was quite creamy). I enjoyed the purée under the crab cakes, but the crab cakes themselves were more like falafel in terms flavour and texture, which threw me off a little. Perhaps a different seasoning could be used.
An exquisite experience! Walking through a delightful garden area complete with sweet bunnies; entering into the charming interior exuding warmth, this will be a favorite for every occasion. The Jumbo Prawns & Scallop Thai Curry are beyond words! Perfectly cooked, scrumptiousness in every bite. Impeccable service and added delights as we were served a smoked salmon canape and a decadent chocolate truffle. Welcome surprises to a stellar evening. Dont miss out on fabulous locally sourced cuisine prepared to perfection!
Well, it was clean. But for a place that reckons it is haute cuisine it was a terrible disappointment. Vastly overpriced for the quality, lots of cheap ingredients, reheated, dry, salmon and crab cakes, etc. and etc. Maybe we were there on an off night but you would expect one of a group of four people to have something decent set in front of them. Noisy as well, the waitress’s stentorian voice was obviously developed to overcome the awful clatter. Once upon a time it was a local source of pride - lovely setting, great food, wonderful ambiance. Now it is just - ‘Locals’.
Try the Potato Crusted Rockfish Fillet or the Pacific Rim Crêpe.For dessert, Crème Brûlée Trio!
Warm staff, excellent atmosphere, delicious food. Its a must-go place!
Dinner was amazing. I had the seafood trio and everything had different flavors, it was delicious. My favorite thing in the plate was the tuna, it melted in your mouth.
Just had lunch which was very good this was second visit. The food is consistent quality and the portions are very good and the food is served nice and hot. I had chowder soup and seafood crepes and my wife had the hamburger. She really loved the hamburger I found the seafood over cooked and it was a bit chewy but was very delicious. The restaurant is very comfortable and inviting inside and the wait staff are very nice and friendly which makes an enjoyable experience.
The environment was pretty, but food was disappointing. For this price range, I expect a lot more. The pasta noodles were over cooked and way too soft. The candied salmon was extremely dry. The worst part was that there was a lipstick stain on the cup - DURING A PANDEMIC. Server apologized, but did not go above and beyond to rectify the situation.I do not recommend. Definitely an overhyped place. Honestly, the food at Browns is better.
5 stars. Service was great and the food was absolutely delicious. We had the prawn and scallop stack, the seafood curry, black cod and dessert. The desserts are to die for! The pastry chef is fantastic! Highly highly recommended Locals
We had our dinner at Locals tonight. The property is surrounded by a garden with many lights and pampas plants. The restaurant itself is a very old building, beautiful from every angle. We had the Manila Clams, Pacific Rim Seafood Pasta, Chorizo Crusted Sable Food, and Raclette Cheese & Apple Salad. The presentation was fantastic and the ingredients in each dish were fresh and delicious. We also liked their sourdough bread. Unfortunately, there were only 2 slices for the three of us. It was $4 when we asked for more. The service was good, a gorgeous restaurant, but the price was on the high side.
Amazingly fresh and flavourful seafood dishes! The interior is beautiful and servers were super kind - they even provided us with a complimentary small appetizer and truffles for dessert. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a great dinner to treat yourself!
Excellent service and recommendations. Food was delicious and very well presented. The dessert coffees are great way to finish the night!
Beautiful outside patio. Local fresh ingredients. Fantastic service! What a lovely place to enjoy lunch in Courtenay.
This has always been one of my favourite restaurants in the Comox Valley especially at lunch when the light from all the windows fills the spaces. The food is always delicious, fresh, local and plated beautifully. My husband had the seafood burger trio with three different kinds of fish and he chose their delicious golden roasted potatoes as his side. I selected the Croque Madame with egg, cheese and salad and every bite was fantastic. We then shared a blackcurrant cheesecake with a Angel food lemon curd roulade and it just made a great meal even better. We have had a variety of dishes here including salads, pastas and pizzas so we know the quality of everything is high. We were also happy to see construction underway of a new outdoor patio underway to provide additional outdoor dining space overlooking the river. Inside all Covid-19 protocols were carefully observed. The restaurant created dividers between tables utilizing restored wood and glass windows and doors which adds to the charm and warmth of the interior. The server we had was attentive and friendly. They have a decent wine and craft beer menu to complement the food. There are a few accessible parking spots near the door. You can also walk to the restaurant along the Courtenay River Walkway from both north and south of the 17th Street bridge and with the seals, herons, eagles, rabbits and other wildlife it makes for a great stroll pre or post meal.
Absolutely delicious. The best restaurant in the valley hands down. The prices are on par with the quality of food. Chef always gives you treats while waiting for your meals. And instead of candy after your meal. You get these phenomenal treats. This place is true sole food. The chefs take their time making award winning meals for your benefit purely. It’s amazing. The staff is great and the scenery is beautiful. Don’t pass this place up. It’s gorgeous and everything they stand for.
