Little River Falls Overlook Trail, Fort Payne, AL 35967, United States, Gadsden
Little River Canyon Falls Park - Park and Garden in Gadsden, United States
This is absolutely one of my favorite, Parks to visit. It is always amazing! The area is always clean. Well maintained. There is a Park Ranger , that is usually at the beginning of the trail. Very knowledgeable, and an amazing personality. It will be your loss ,not to stop, and talk with him. You will notice, he cares very much! That you will enjoy your stay at the park!
This is a short hike from the parking lot and made for a quick waterfall view. We did see people sitting in the water on top of those Falls but that is a different entry and longer hike.
One of our favorite placesEasy hike to amazing swimming hole and beautiful river..perfect day trip
Awesome place to swim and hike
This is located not far from Hippie Hole. Its a great swimming hole. Enormous with some nice jumps up to 25 ft higg or so...and many smaller jump spots. The only missing thing here is probably a rope swing...
Beautiful place. Still remember all those times we went when I was a child before my sister was born. This place is majestic.
We had so much fun plan to visit again
Really enjoy bringing my teenagers here. The hike to the hippie hole is long, hot, and difficult for many. Pack LIGHT !!!! Be careful. I dont suggest young ones. The rocks are slippery and we have tried it once. I wouldnt recommend! Lol . Be safe and pay attention to rocks under water if you decide to jump. Getting out after can be a strenuous activity! Wear life jackets if you are not an experienced swimmer and even then keep in mind persons have died and been seriously enjured at the hippie hole. Go with a group. Bring water. Have fun.
Great placeRough hike but doable.Rocks slippery in water but I but slide and had a great time
Absolutely breathtaking and fun! Had a great time swimming in the “Hippie Hole”.
I came here on a wonderful August day the weather was perfect the water was cool theres a lot of people but I still felt that I had a lot of space. The hike to the hippie hole was a decent hike, I wasnt too tired afterwards.
Small quiet little roadside Park with a swimming hole during summer slow-moving water and quiet here.
Even though it was blistering hot, the views and the scenery are breathtaking. One of the most relaxing peaceful places in North Alabama.
Ebhart trail takes my breath away. Literally. Be careful. Its a short hike by my standards (2.5 - 4 being a decent hikebut its a long way to go an incline or decline and thats most of the trail.I stopped by the falls but didnt take the trail. It was Fathers Day and there were a BUNCH of people so maybe not go there on summer holidays if you dont like crowds.
Beautiful place, one day I will get down to the base of the falls.
Absolutely beautiful. The water levels were a little low but it was still worth the trip. Nice scenery and super helpful staff at the welcome center
Stayed over night in a cabin on the mountain. Lookout mountain stretches across a few states. If you go take the scenic drive and stop at a few of the overlooks, some have hiking trails. Already planning a trip back in the fall when the leaves are changing. A few nice waterfalls, mushroom rock was a surprise attraction. DeSoto State Park is just up the road, which you shouldnt miss
I love this place! You need an escape and have a peaceful day this is the spot❤️
Easy access to the larger waterfall. The hike was easy on the way down to the water and swim area where the smaller falls are. Took about 20 to 25 minutes to hike. Trails were easy. Bring a water bottle. The hike back up was a little harder as there are more inclines and harder to climb back up the rock steps. But it was worth the hike. The water was refreshing to dip into. The area was clean and well taken care of.
Beautiful place to see and hike!
Great place to visit. Safe parking. Easy access for ppl w mobility issues to view the falls.Safe and clean area to dip your toes and play in the water.Bring a towel and maybe an inner tube for floating around. Dog friendly.
Ohh this place is so beautiful. Its perfect. If I could have stayed near the water I would have.
Beautiful place to stop.. easy access for everyone. Also for the kids..the walk down to the falls is a little steep and easy to access and there are several shallow spots to take a dip and relax
Little River Canyon is great because you can drive to a number of lookouts and plenty of hiking. Fun for the whole family!
Not very busy at all on a Monday morning at 8am! Only saw 2-3 other people. They have a lovely well maintained area to the lookout point, and then a side trail thats dirt, rock, and very natural thats meant to take you down to the river. I wish this trail had more blazes because I saw several side paths going off the trail that confused me. I assume these side paths take you directly down to the falls area. The official trail brings you to a less scenic but still cool part of the river. I wouldnt recommend this trail if youre trying to go swimming as Id imagine it to be an uncomfortable hike in a bathing suit! Im also not sure whether to recommend puppies or babies/strollers for this trail as it can be psuedo-strenuous at times! Especially in this humid and hot weather! The parking lot has a lovely porta potty system (not sarcasm! Actually much better than most Ive seen). Also on the way out there are some sort of one way tire spikes that spooked me. I had a park ranger behind me and he assured me that its fine to drive over them when leaving. I presume they are there to stop people from entering in the wrong direction. Overall, I highly recommend stopping here for at least the overlook and stretching your legs/bathroom breaking on a further journey. Im not sure id recommend the 1 mile trail to the bottom as you dont gain much aesthetically for it. But its a nice hike if youre just looking for exercise!
Beautiful place to relax and soak up some nature. Gorgeous waterfall. Be careful if you go swimming!
After parking you can either take a short paved walkway to a GIANT BEAUTIFUL WATERFALL or a mild/moderate 15 minute hike to a shallow watering hole (aka Hippie Hole). I love this place and the Rangers are knowledgeable and friendly.
This place is absolutely beautiful. Worth the drive and short walk. It also tells history of "Trail of Tears".
Go in the spring when the water is really rushing over the falls. I wouldnt call this a destination, but a beautiful spot to spend about an hour doing a picnic or the like.
Absolutely stunning canyon! We went down to the river and walked very close to the falls. Beautiful place! The overlook is also wheelchair accessible.
Ive been here several times. It is in my top 3 favorite places. The fact that I live about 15 miles from Lookout Mountain makes it even better. 😎
A site this close to the road thats this immersive is hard to come by. The overlook is maybe a tenth of a mile walk on paved path. If youre up for an adventure, you can leave the walkway and follow trails down to the water and if willing to navigate river rocks can get out on the water and even under the falls themselves.
I really enjoyed this park! I would spend a lot more time here for another trip but definitely try to see it early in the day if you’re in the area!
Really like this free park. There are all levels of difficultly of trails one of which is 100% wheelchair accessible to the main falls. Trails are fairly well maintained and easy to follow. Swimming is allowed and the water stays crystal clear year around unless there have been heavy rains.
My Daddy has been taking me here since I was a kid and now I bring my kids here. The views are amazing! Its free to get in. You can either swim at the top or climb/hike down to the bottom of the falls and swim/explore. What ever you choose to do you and your crew will have a great time and have awesome memories. Please PICK UP YOUR TRASH when you leave!
Very beautiful. Lot of hiking trails be smart and stay safe.
It is so amazing and you dont even have to earn the beautiful view. Its an easy walk. Fireflies are a bonus. We hear when the water is a shower slow you can sit under it.
Wonderful and clean hiking trails. The Park Rangers were extremely helpful, and special thanks to Niki that helped my dog get his Bark Ranger badge! 👍😁
Great scenery. Great access to overlooks and to the river. If you cant do stairs the path has a gradual.descent to the overlook. Would have been 5 stars but the public bathroom was horrible. Go to the bathroom before you go there.
A gorgeous Federal Nature Area by the Alabama-Georgia border. The overlook falls were magnificent, especially after a big storm. I couldnt get over the brilliant aqua color of the water. We took a scenic drive on the road that hugs the canyon and stopped at most of the lookouts, especially to see Graces High Falls. The roads are windy and steep so drive with caution, especially there is a part that is unpaved. It was great seeing this natural beauty usually reserved in many of the western parks.
This park is at the end of the scenic Little River Canyon. It has two easy walks down to the river and a great view of the falls. There are chemical toilets. A guide was present to share information about the park. We went on a winter Saturday after heavy rains, so the falls were spectacular.
Lots of walking trails that are very kid and dog friendly. The falls are nice but nothing too amazing. Visiting here pairs nicely with seeing the taller DeSoto Falls that are about 20 minutes from here. When I visited on a Saturday there was a ranger there welcoming people and answering questions about the park.
The trail to the falls is short, easy and clean. Love the screny of Falls. Will come back again to see the falls in different seasons ❤Parking for RVs and a clean outhouse are available next to the trail. Also, dont forget to drive down the scenic road to see more different areas of the Little River Canyon. Highly recommended!!!
The falls are so beautiful. My husband and I visited in August, took our granddaughters back in October. A huge difference in the amount of water falling. When my husband and I went, we hiked down to the Hippie Hole. Quite a strenuous hike but well worth it.
Amazing hike, beautiful flowers, cold clear waters! A natural hot tub (The Hippie Hole).Great place for locals or if just so happen to be passing threw the area. Reminded me of the mountain springs of Pennsylvania. Home away from home.❤
GREAT! This place is magical! The waterfalls are just gorgeous! There are even neat little caves scattered inside the rocks. There are multiple waterfalls to visit up and down the creek. We had to drive at least 3 hours and we were not disappointed! It takes a bit of a hike to get there and the hills are pretty steep, but it is worth it!!!
Amazing place to cool off on a hot summer day. The trail is fairly easy which allows you to take a cooler and mini grill for those wanting to BBQ and spend the entire day in the water. Also has many high places where you can jump in for those thrill seekers like me 😊👌🏽
05/18/2019 What a spectacular day for scenery and nature. We stopped at the Little River Canyon Center for a map and directions, a restroom break, and cool beverage. Beautiful building and facilities, staffed with knowledgeable team members and a very nice gift shop. We left the center with a clear direction for the best view of the falls for us (I have a mobility challenged friend). We traveled and parked in the free parking provided, at the Little River Canyon Falls Observation Deck Park, and used the handicapped accessible ramps to walk to boardwalk to the observation deck of the Falls. Such a spectacular view. The sounds of the rushing water were soothing and very calming. The view was amazing. A must visit if you are a nature lover.
Gorgeous waterfall! The park is perfect for a short stop and its parking area is adjacent to the main road. The park is fairly small. You can spend some time and follow a trail along the river or even have lunch at one of the picnic tables but if you just want to take in some beautiful scenery, take a few pictures and go, the park is ideal.Plenty of parking, restrooms, handicapped ramp to observation deck, picnic tables and handicapped accessible tables, open 24 hours, a field to walk the dog, safe for kids, convenient, and no fees. Enjoy!
We had a wonderful time visiting this waterfall. It was so refreshing going down to the water to cool off after our hike. Definitely worth the one hour detour on our trip. Thanks to the locals in Cloudland Canyon for directing us here! Camping and exploring is a gift and I hope you all by enjoy this spot as much as we did.
