Little Oak Bar - Wine bar in Halifax, Canada
Sorry to say but decidedly average. Service was good and they have a good wine selection. It was a little expensive but I get the market that they are going after. Im afraid that the food just wasnt that tasty. That said, the bread thingy was amazing as was the crab curry.
A delightful wine bar. The service was amazingly good. The only reasons I didnt give it 5 stars were because the wine prices are on the very high end (at least $65, up to $160 or more), and the music on the PA system was terrible (cantreally describe it other than some sort of rap?), not in keeping with a high end wine bar at all.
Fantastic service, delicious cocktails, and amazing food. I always feel welcomed as soon as I enter the building. The atmosphere is amazing very intimate and relaxing! Always a favourite spot to stop by when I visit Halifax!
Great wine cellar. Unique menu and beautifully presented mains and apps.
Well, an original wine selection, an interesting menu to share, fresh and tasty. It s my third time and still remains a good place to end a good touristic day in Halifax
Food, Menu, and Value Review: 195$ for 2. The staff is great BUT the Menu is pretentious, confused and not a good value. The scallops were ok but into tiny pieces for some reason and it seems they did this to make it look like you are getting more. The asparagus was delicious and the largest portion of food from the menu but its just an overpriced bowl of asparagus with a Japanese kick and egg on top. The monkfish was dry and chewy. The snow crab was also chopped and drenched in a red pepper chipotle type sauce which overpowered and destroyed the flavor of the crab, totally pointless. I think we got one leg worth of meat. The duck confit is only thing worth purchasing on the menu. The Maltagliati was absolutely terrible and whoever created that dish should take it off the menu. Its triangles of pasta drenched in a nasty smokey cheese sauce but not in a good way. The cheapest wine is 49$ per bottle and they have some very overpriced beers. To conclude the staff is great but the food is misguided, tiny portioned, unbalanced, and not a good value. They are right next to a bounty of the ocean and they ruin the true flavors with sauces and conflicting flavors. Let the crab speak for itself, dont kill it with a Spanish chipotle sauce. We live in nova Scotia. 195$ for two including tip. Very disappointed with the food. With so many other options for fine dining you would think they would want to do something well and right but the chef is trying way too hard. Different is good but only if it tastes good.
One of the best restaurants in Halifax. The food was spot on and the service and ambiance were also excellent. I had the oysters, mussel fritters, Arctic char and cavatelli
Great location on the Halifax waterfront. Great service. Outstanding food on the tasting menu
Great spot!! We came in late on a Tuesday and were happy to here the kitchen was still open. Our waiter was better then perfect and the food top notch. Amazing vegetarian and gluten free options. Its small but sweet we loved the decor as well.
Unique selection of wine, with some Coravin offerings to keep it interesting. Knowledgeable staff.
Great flavors and above average food for the city! The atmosphere and knowledge of the staff was also very impressive. We got the full plates menu.
Amazing place, great vibes, unreal dumplings, fantastic wine selection, and wonderful staff.
This tiny hole-in-the-wall place is easy to miss if youre not looking for it, but look for it you must. Nice selection of top notch wines by the glass, and a small but focused menu of shareable plates. Service is casual but professional and well informed. Highly recommended.
The wine knowledge and love of the servers are fantastic! Favourite wine bar in the HRM!
Nice little spot in Bishops Landing. Very different, creative, and elevated dishes. We tried a few things on the menu, but a big shout out to the seafood platter. The crab dip with the bread was absolutely delicious as well as the salmon tartare. Also, the carrots were smokey with a hint of spiciness and cream to balance out. Broccoli with the soft egg yolk was different but very tasty. I would dock off 0.5 star because they were out of duck and it was the main reason we came to this restaurant. With that said, I would recommend this place if youre tired of the same old fried seafood menus!
Simply Outstanding. The food, the service and most importantly the wine. Stefan was working the night I was in and his understanding of how to provide customer service is the best I have ever seen in Halifax.
Came here last weekend with a few friends before leaving home to Toronto, and I loved it! Great atmosphere, good selection of wine, and even better company :Thanks! I will be back!
Quaint and charming in Halifax Harbour area. Lots of small boutiques and restaurants in vicinity. Wine list is well thought out and appies were tasty.
Beautiful little spot with wonderful food and drinks. The food is seasonal and locally sourced, and the drinks are very creative and tasty. Parking can be a challenge, but its right on the waterfront so theres a paid parking lot or street parking. Great service too.
Great service and really creative flavours. Wonderful tasting menu and wine pairing. Small and intimate environment. Definitely would recommend and would come back again soon!
Beautiful little place nestled in between unassuming shops and residential buildings right at the heart of bishops landing, the place screams cozy from the moment you step in.Good wine selection, trendy yet cool ambiance. Food is a basic at best.Great place to get drinks. The pretentious food you can steer clear of.
Always amazing food, wine and service. Had gnocchi in sea urchin butter which was absolutely divine. Sadly forgot to snap a pic. This place is a MUST try if you like well curated wine and craft beer lists with an eclectic but amazing food menu.
My lady loves the seafood and wine selection they have here. A great place to bring the misses if you plan on getting lucky!
Most of the staff is great, as is the wine selection, however ALL of my interactions with the owner Nicole have been utterly cold, hateful, entitled, and holier-than-thou. You run a wine bar in Halifax, dial back the ego a bit.
Lovely intimate setting right downtown Halifax by the water. Great selection of wines and delicious cocktails. Bartenders are very knowledgable. They have a patio in the summer.
We went to Little Oak after a couple of people had recommended it. We were not disappointed! It was a wonderful experience! We were a group of 4 and shared everything. First off, our waitress was fantastic and knowledgeable! She has an incredible ability to describe the food and wine in such a beautiful and poetic way. We ordered many things and they were all really great. The best thing was the scallop and corn ravioli. The mussles and oysters were awesome. So was the cauliflower. I would 10000% recommend it!
I am mitigated. We went 2 times, first the waitress was just amazing, knowledgeable, smiling and really attentive. The food was extraordinary and portion really worth it. The second time, the waitress was this super specialised girl in wine but really treated us with so much condescendance and ommited to tell us that the wine she suggested was 25$ the glass. Still food is amazing, but she made our experience really poor.
Easily top 10 Halifax restaurants; food is impeccable, excellent wine list, four-star service (could be a little better); but the ambiance makes up for it. Absolutely dreamy evening atmosphere ❤️
Great selection! Great staff! Only drawback is that for the size of the place the volume of sound due to hard surfaces is quite loud.
Great bar, love the decor, great food everything was so yummi and the cocktails were so great! incredible atmosphere and excellent staff.
My wife and I visited on our 15th aniversary great service and location. We both loved the seafood board.
Great wine selection. Food consists of small, expensive plates.
On vacation from Ontario, my girlfriend and I decided on some drinks and late night oysters. The oysters were amazing! The sauces that were served with them were absolutely delicious! The service was amazing as well.I would honestly give this place a 10/10 solely on the vibe and environment that it had. The music was great, and the lighting was perfect!
delicious food, great list of natural wines and we had a blast with Stefan, the sommelier ( hope I spelled his name correctly)
My husband and I were here for our wedding anniversary and we were blown away by the food, the service, and the music! If you haven’t been here yet you need to make it a priority.
Wow--our server was so friendly, provided excellent service, and was so informative about the wonderful wine we selected. We also just enjoyed talking with him. We only tried the olive and the mozzarella toast appetizer, but they were divine. This was one of our favorite spots in downtown Halifax during our trip from the U.S.--wish we had time to try a dinner there. Great location too near the water.
Had an AMAZING time at Littl Oak Bar. Server was the best Ive had in a long time, straight up! Drinks were all fantastic and the food here was SO good!Best thing about this place was the music. Finally a classy wine bar that plays HIP HOP music 😁The bar tender was also able to make a variety of great mocktails for my pregnant wife!👌
Came here after dinner for cocktails. So damn good!! Will definitely be back for more, and try the food!
Amazing cocktails! Great atmosphere! Fun times!
Great cocktails!!! Phenomenal food!! Highly recommend this place
Wednesdays are $20 off a bottle of wine nights which is awesome and the food was seriously quite good. The sommelier was knowledgeable and friendly and the service was excellent. A great little place!
Great selection of wines, amazing food with an ever changing menu, love the chill atmosphere. Will return!
One of the best dining experiences I have had in Halifax. There is a new chef and the menu he has created will blow your mind and mouth away. Staff are polite and fun, very pleased to talk about the food, drink, and pairings for all of the above. I was considering a Port Digestif and they allowed me to try the one I was considering having. I didn’t enjoy it, and they were pleased to hear my comments on why so they could share it with other patrons also considering it. The truffle pasta was a religious experience, and the pork belly will leave you tingling with joy. This is a small place, so seating is limited, call ahead or try your luck by stopping in and if there is no table pull a seat up to the bar and sample some delightful wines, spirits, and champagnes; I had Benjamin Bridges new reserve champagne and could have bathed in it. There is a small set menu, but the rest changes on the board weekly and to what is seasonally available. If you can get a table, take it, you won’t regret it.
Great wine selection, friendly staff, talented bartender, kitchen is open later than most, terrific small plate options, go there!
We really enjoyed our evening at Little Oak. The food, the drinks, and the ambience were all top notch. The service was unobtrusive but knowledgeable and friendly. There were 5 of us and we "ate the menu" which consists of ordering all 6 of the daily features. We also ordered 4 dishes off the regular menu. All dishes were excellent - unique and flavourful, fresh and well seasoned, and we especially liked the seared scallops, the scallop ceviche, the crab salad and the goat cheese. The Little Oak is right next door to the busier Bicycle Thief. Pass the line-ups and enjoy a great evening at Little Oak.
Cool atmosphere with good cocktails tucked away in a great location. Will definitely return!
Just went for cocktails, which were amazing, but something kept leaving the kitchen that smelled garlic and delicious. Very large port list, and rail.
Lovely, warm cozy bar with great wines by the glass and small plates to share.
Great food. Great staff. Great space. Its a missing piece of the puzzle for the chef-driven kitchens, wine and cocktails in Halifax
This new little joint is fantastic. You must visit. The space is cozy and very oak-y. Its beautiful - different from your typical bar. Great music too. What I found exceptional about this place is that it might be the ONLY place in Halifax to serve food past 10pm. I dont know what is up with this city. Its so hard to find a kitchen open past 10pm. But heres your spot.Service was fantastic. Our server, I wish I could remember her name, was so sweet and genuine. She was happy to make beer recommendations and was incredibly knowledgeable. There were beers she mentioned I had never heard of. It was nice to try something new.The food menu looked delicious. Its all small plates, so this isnt really a place for dinner. We had something with beef and radishes. It was PHENOMENAL. I wish it was a little more affordable because I would have devoured everything on the menu. It all sounded delicious. I believe their menu is constantly changing up. I also recall the option to buy the full menu for $78 - I think (maybe 5-6 small plates?).Everything here was excellent. Great vibes, fantastic service, delicious beers and a yummy menu. I would strongly recommend Little Oak and will definitely return. 10/10
