Zoo exhibiting various mammals, birds & reptiles in old-fashioned enclosures amid mature oak trees.
Lithuanian Zoo in Kaunas
Description
Closed until 2023 :(
its too hot, so all the animals hid
had a lot of animals but like animal abuse animals and the camels were like bootleg camels this is only 3 stars because there was a buff frog never been there but bad.
MoreGreat place visit with kids and not only 🙃
Yes its a bit outdated, there are not so many animals, but for kids its still fun. And for adults ? Treat it as an amazing time in the park with happy kids
MoreEverything was so interesting. I really recommend to go here rhen there is a sunny day because you can see more animals.
MoreNice and interesting. Overdue(plannedrepairsl. But ive all I loved it and my 6y old daughter also. WC we clean and usabe
MoreContained the majestic camel. It was much appreciated.
Old but still good. And yep it needs some renovation.
Good place to bring kids, loads of animals to see, and some food stands to take a break if you need to.
MoreNice zoo
Animals have lots of space and are not afraid to interacr wih people, the pathways are wide, however there is no clean wc except the wooden one, the cafe was closed when we visited. Great place to visit not only with kids.
MoreFun for kids.Reconstruction is needed
Good place to spend time with family
Nice zoo. Enormous area. There is s zone for kids playing. Dont visit at mid noon, because lion, wolf , chita sleep at that time, you will see they are sleeping. Take marks bcz stink of some animals difficult to bear n take 1 euro n 5 cent coins to take souvenir. Just before closing time no checking or ticketing,,,so you can a quick -free rider-.😆😆😆🙄
MoreTime well spent with the kids (6 and 9 years old).
Very cute zoo in middle of Kaunas! Parking was available quite near the entrance, ice cream and other beverages on the way of the zoo trail. When sunny, mostly all animals could be seen ☺️
MoreI hope after ronvation it will look much better.
Love the place, its cheap, ofcourse really worth visiting in the summer.
Honestly it was never a good place to go with kids and family. Since i was a kid this place changed a bit. It was already bad like 11-15 years a go and sadly its just getting worse. Animals are sad, stressed and bored, the cages dont give any nessesery needs of the animals. Its need a good expensive renovation. The placement is great it has hill that certain animals need but mainly the zoo is all over it self no organization , no care for animals , not sure about the food. The zoo is not sported by the political partys nor government no EU. It has a potential but need to be taken down completely and started again. It could be a really good zoo and teach kids a lot but sadly no one cares enough or doesnt see how good it could be
MoreVery nice! Best part of it was many "cats" that could be seen close.
We had an amazing time over here at the zoo.It was not so crowded at the time we went. The zoo is located behind Kaunas University of Technology. The zoo is open from 9 am to 7 pm in summer and from 9 am to 5 pm in winters depending on the weather. The last time to buy the ticket and enter the zoo is 2 hours before the closure of the zoo.The zoo hosts a variety of species which live in the Arctic area. There are many types of cats, birds and there are African lions also. You can typically spend about 2-3 hours at the zoo.Have a good time when you visit.
MoreIt is important attraction in Kaunas.Good place for family to spend a day. Most of the animals are wild, not possible to touch! But there are some friendly animals you will be able to touch.Kids may be able to rent a small car for a ride for fun. There is a small takeway/canteen to kill hunger. It may be hard to go down the hill and then go up.
MoreHe was very nice but little bit quiet not all animals in the cage
Švelniai tariant, yra ką atnaujinti. If you havent been in a Zoo, it will be interesting, but thats it. Compared to other Zoos, it looks like a dying animal.
MoreVery interesting and in nature walking.
This place definitely needs a renovation, but still hanging there with kids was fun
MoreIts good place to visit, but the conditions of the animals dont appear to be the best. The cages are really small in most cases, feels a lot like Tallinn Zoo 20 years ago.
MoreStaff is nice, presented the animals well. Many different things to see. However the overall condition of the zoo is not super good. You can still feel the Soviet vibe in the way that it looks
MoreToo small cages for animals. Huge hill to climb for part of zoo, no chance for wheelchair. 2 toilettes.
MoreTiger, Lions, Snow leopards whats could be more interesting? A good place to spend time with friends and family. Nice value for money. There are some shops inside.
MoreLots of animals to see. The tickets are cheap too. Nice pathways, signs with a lot of information about the animals are helpful and provides a lot of interesting facts. It takes minimum 2 hrs to walk around the zoo, and even more if you want to see all the animals. A wonderful place to spend your day with family or friends.
MoreDecent pricing,a loot of free parking, clean and tidy.
I have visited many zoos around the World and this one is the worst I have ever seen. There is not enough space for animals, cages are extremely small, dirty and way too smelly. Majority of animals look sad, stressed and in a very bad shape... Greedy people just want to make money and dont care about animals at all. Dont understand anyone who thinks there is nothing wrong with this zoo, post positive reviews etc.
MoreNice place with children, zoos are not good for sure, but cant help it, always want to visit
MoreGiraffe talk was well worth the set of steep steps. Animals that were on show were happily eating! Aging enclosures but healthy animals, replies and birds! Easy parking and excellent value for money.
MoreNice zoo with an interesting selection of animals.
Small but great value for money 6 Euro entry fee. Even saw some animals we had not seen before.
MoreVery nice place animals are in very good condition would like to advise to visit, thanks
MoreA nice park with old trees and... animals. Some animal shelters are renovated and some are not. Experience also includes distinctive smell of each animal :Nice place in general.
MoreKids love it. A lotOf animals. About 3-4 lions. Didn’t see any tiger(usually there is 1. Seem leopards and other wild cats. Overall animals were week and conditions aren’t great. Kaunas council needs to work on it.
MoreThe biggest and oldest zoo in Lithuania. It is over 80 year old. Some of animals lived there for a really long time. It is not too big but there is a lot of animals to be seen. Zoo is divided into two levels upper and lower. You can find different variety of animals there from predators of safari to wolfs from arctic. You can also find really rare animals like bison and etc. I spend there about 2-3 hours and saw most of the animals.
MoreThe zoo needs better funding. Some animals are not treated well. Snow leopard looked like he was overheating in the summer. Not everything was bad tho
MoreNot the best zoo in the world but for kids it will.do good selection of animals
Nice zoo in the center of Kaunas. Especially the different levels are original. Animals have nice and spacious living spaces which are well maintained and clean. There are several places to sit with children and to eat or drink something. Ticket prices are not expensive.
MoreMany interesting animals to see, we had a good time here. Entry is not very expensive, but fun is for several hours. Walking up and down the hill was a little tiring, maybe they could do something about that. We also did not see some of the animals because they were still in their cages. For that reason I recommend you come after lunch hours, not in the morning. Many of the animals are still asleep during morning time
MoreGood value, but can tell the zoo is in need of funds and backing. The place itself is good, large, trees everywhere, but enclosures are a tad small and some empty just laying there. Maybe they should join a few to make larger enclosures. Still worth a visit, the only place Ive seen which has a snow leopard!! Hence the 4 stars. Hope people back it going forward.
MoreThey are doing the best they can with the money they have! On Christmas day Ive seen no less than 10 staffers taking care of the animals. It lacks modernisation and English translations, but considering their budget theyre doing well.
MoreHuge. But animals are far away. Feeding times are not well advertised. Great for a day away, but not so great for short visits.
MoreIf you ask me should you visit it, I would say no. Maybe its good enough fol locals, but its sad to see in what harsh environment poor animals live. They need to work on every aspect of this zoo to be attractive not only for tourists, but locals also.
