Margaret the tour guide is awesome and extremely informative
Great place! And the free tour inside was a surprise, super nice!
Very Intresting, great tour guide
I really enjoyed this tour. I was not familiar with the history of the Middle ages in Ireland and this visit was not only interesting from an architectural point of view but also as a history lesson. Margaret our guide was well informed and also so kind to our little boy. She gave him colouring sheets of the castle and of a knight, and explained to him that this place used to be a castle for children training to become knights. She also told us a great story about the ape head on the fascade. Dont forget to ask about it, when you go!Vale la pena la visita. El edificio es bonito y anecdotas aun mejores. Muy recomendado
MoreYou should go here! Only 2 of the 4 towers remain, but they tell a tale. Do take the guided tour as its very interesting and entertaining. We were shown around by Margaret and she had a wealth of facts and fun facts about the castle and its inhabitants. People back then were equally disgusting as inventive 😂To visit the castle you have to climb some stairs, but theyre easy. There are some small rooms during the tour, but theyre part of the castles story, but beware if youre not into small spaces. Kids will like the exploring bit and the things shown and explained during the tour. The tour takes between 30 to 45 minutes. Its incredible you van visit this place and take the guided tour for free. Theres even a free car park just around the corner by the river and the bridge to the racetrack.
MoreThe castle tour was delightful. Margaret was an excellent tour guide—very knowledgeable and eager to teach. We highly recommend it!
MoreYou wouldnt want to be going out of your way as you can see everything from the picture
MoreUnfortunately closed due to Covid19 until 2022

MoreLovely castle on the outside, but couldnt get in due to covid
The village itself is lovely, well with a walk around, the castle itself, a few minutes stop, though there is a writers museum there too.
MoreIts a castle... Whats not to love about castles? Its not the coolest looking castle but still looks pretty nice
MoreListowel is a great place to visit especially during writers week. The museum is easily accessible and worth a visit. Nearby are the church....lots of events here, a lovely hotel and the high street with very interesting historical shopfronts. The river is also close by .....lovely walks along here as well as nearby access to the racecourse.Listowel has lots of heritage including literature and the museum is a good place to start your visit.
MoreBeautiful castle. Very tidy.
The lady at the desk was really helpful and I really enjoyed the castle
Free tour with a very informative guide. Less touristy than many other castles.
Very interesting tour and enthusiastic guide.
Wonderful free tour. Surprising how many rooms are in the towers. I learned so many new things about castles and the 13th Century. The Lord who built it was one of the most wealthy men in Europe at the time. If you are in the area drop in! Many original floors and ceilings!
MoreLove diving into the kerry history, love the history of castles
OPW tour here is worth the time.
Great visit. Super tour guide
Looks like only a wall remains but theres a lot more. We had a wonderful young guide for our visit. She was a mine of information and made it so interesting. The tour is free and tipping is at yiur discretion.
MoreWonderful tour of the Castle by Margaret, really knew her stuff
Interesting remains of a fort just next to the Listowel town square. The visitors shop is worth a visit, friendly staff.
MoreBeautiful. Take the guided tour, the guide is very informative and brought the place to life. Lovely little rooms where people slept sitting up, fabulous stone work and stairways and that gorgeous River.
MoreHighly recommend - too bad it closes so early in the season.
Good as a free tour although you have to have more than one person for a tour
Fine castle or tower house, good history of the area, guides full of knowledge.
Amazing old Fort standing beside the Carrig Islang
Only open for tours 4 months of the year, but free and very informative. Nice restoration of the third of the castle that is left. If you are in the area, its an interesting place to spend an hour
MoreGreat tour and very informative. Cute little book shop next door to grab a cup of tea too! Excellent tower house without changing its bones
MoreGreat tour, friendly staff and very interesting information about the castle.
Very interesting. Its worth the 30-45 minutes. Staff provide a free, short, and highly informative tour. If you want a good castle visit, off the beaten path, without the touristy nature of Bunratty, I highly recommend Listowel.
MoreGreat guided tours available free!
Small castle, the staff will give you a short tour of what remains and tell you about its history. Very interesting and worth half an hour of your time.
MoreGreat to see old tower castle
Great Tour But I Wish You Were Allowed Onto The Top
You get a free tour of the castle here, its so interesting and the tour guides are lovely, there are also some beautiful 360 degree views of Listowel town. I would definitely recommend a visit to Listowel Castle 😊👍
MoreWe were there in July, Cormac was our guide. He was terrific!
Very simple castle but the tour was free and the staff were friendly.
@opwireland provides a great tour here during the summer. See the town from a different angle !
MoreWonderfully interesting and well preserved castle. Tour was free and very well done, had a great time
MoreFree tours during the summer months. Cant go wrong!
Worth a 10min visitAwesome building with an interesting history
Castle has been somewhat restored, but some clot designed and installed a hideous metal stairway going up the back. No historic info either.
MoreCould be a very interesting place but there is just a sign and the ruin, opportunity to learn some history or more about what happened to it but not very well presented.
