Lisadell House and Gardens - Historical landmark in Ros Comain, Ireland
Great tour of a most interesting house and fabulous grounds. The museum is a real treasure trove. Not to be missed 😌
Must place to visit, steeped in history, beautiful estate, great history and museum, highly recommend.
The tour guide Lorraine was superb. The gardens however appeared a little neglected compared to our last visit 5 years ago.
Beautiful gardens with spectacular views
Very good and interesting house gardens. The tour was good, if a little rushed, we would have liked longer to see the exhibits. A pity that we did not feel welcome at the tea rooms, which meant a sad end to our trip.
Wonderful place, The history detailed in the coach house was amazingDefinitely recommend a visit
We paid 8 euro each to visit the gardens, unfortunately they are run down and not maintained..disappointed
Very informative guided tour of Lissadell House with expert delivery of interesting history about the Gore-Booth family.
Really enjoyed the house and grounds. Tour guide was excellent and location beautiful.
Paul who takes you through the house is fantastic, really bring the history alive!
Fabulous house, grounds and tour of Lissadell House. A significant and important piece of Irish history revolving around Constance Gore-Booth ( Countess Marcevixand her family.
The house is astonishing to see and experience. The tour guide is very knowledgeable. I would advise people to stop here. Great experience had.
Lovely building with knowledge tour guide
Great experience, knowledgeable guide for the house and lovely tea rooms and Yeats tour in the carriage house
Visited Sunday and had a wonderful time.enjoyed the guided tour excellently presented.house gardens lovely.tea room an staff so kind an courteous good value also.would like to thank the owners for such an efford.for there dream.oh an family.and would appreciate everyone to surport such a brave venture.thankyou.
Excellent but a shame an audio tour is not also available as I missed my chance to tour as they are at pre arranged times.Lady on till was very informative and helpful though which helped ease the annoyance at this ,we came from Cork so an audio tour would have been the obvious solution. Beautiful gardens , gift shop excellent .
A historic treasure! Beautiful house, incredible interior, takes you way back in time. The guide was friendly and the tour was relaxed as well as informative. Great day out!
Excellent guided tour by a very dapper and very knowledgeable guide. A very interesting house. Loved the musical interlude.
Lisadell House offers a very interesting glimpse into the life of Constance Markievicz. She was one of the key people who lead Ireland into independence and the exhibition and house really recognises the role that she played. Something that really came across was that she was how very much she was a real person. Afterwards I left feeling almost that I knew her personally which is a huge credit to the whole presentation. Just on that point alone, this is a place that should not be missed out.The setting of the house is absolutely fabulous. It is Ireland at its very best. The Alpine Garden is a complete treat and so typical of the age. The house very much depicts life for the Anglo-Irish in the late Georgian and Victorian period leading to the post-independence decline. For those other than the elite, life was not good and that is made so very obvious which is another credit to the presentation. Finally, it would be wrong to make no mention of the guide who was completely passionate about sharing his in-depth knowledge with all. It was absolutely brilliant.
A fine house. That belonged to Constance Markeviz! Wasnt she a great girl? The people in Sligo are all mad about herself, and Yeats of course. The house I personally didnt like. The décor was shocking. They explained that the family didnt really focus on the outside, but wanted to make the inside amazing, and to be honest, I thought they both werent that nice. It was all a bit green and brown. The gardens were lovely though, and the vista! Stunning altogether! The café was great, I had a lovely scone. And then the little bit on the Rising was brillant as well, I think that used to be on in a show in Dublin. There were some interesting old pictures as well, I thought that Constances daughter was the absolute head off her! Although, I learned that she didnt really raise her own daughter, and shed never see her. I know she was a great wan for the suffragettes and things, but sure, if you cant be a good mammy to your own child, would you really be a great woman? It made me reflect a lot. I dunno.
Go see this place, if you want to learn more about the history of ireland and its influences in the uk, it focuses mainly on the suffragettes which is amazing, its the history you dont hear about in school, this place is a must see! It is privately owned now but the house tour still goes on and is worthwhile.
Great tourist attraction altogether. Superb tour guide and fantastic up keep of the house.
Great visit. Really interesting tour.
I was there Easter Sunday and toured the house and gardens, as I also done 2 years ago and always very impressed, tour guides are excellent, yesterday was there with a group from Charlestown Active Retirement Association Co Mayo, time restricted us to tea, toast and scones which we all enjoyed, will be there again.
The history of the owners of the house is fascinating. Some of them belong to the very fabric of our history. Constance, Eva and her mother were inspirational women.
The birth place of Countess Markevic. All renovated and the tour is great if a little rushed. You can take as many photos as you want. The gardens are brilliant and it is all set in 40,000 acres.
Loved this place. History oozing out of its walls. Could have spent all day here only had time for the coach house. Lots of Yeats related archives. The Gore-Booth sisters were ahead of their time.
The access around the back drive and stable yards rather than to the front of the house loses all the effect that these great houses were designed for. The approach wow factor. The old home of a great suffragette for women and freedom fighter for Ireland.
The house was lovely, the gardens amazing, the exhibition very well laid out and informative. The home made soup was very tasty the sandwiches were not, apart from sandwiches the whole day was great
Wonderfully charming and knowledgeable guide who brought the family and the pivotal role they played in Irelands history alive. Amazing setting and interiors
Theres a lot of history attached to this estate but sadly theres a lot of reading as well. If English isnt your native language then youre losing out.On entry we purchased tickets which were priced at €14 each for adults. The directions from the staff member was confusing therefore resulting that we missed our tour of the house. Some signage once you leave the coach house would be beneficial and some multi lingual signs would be a huge help.Eventually when we did our tour of the house an hour later we were unfortunate enough to have a child with autism with us resulting in a lot of noise been generated therefore missing out on a lot of information.I put no blame on anyone for this but it opens up a debate on "should people bring autistic kids to places like this?"I know it may sound awful but I really felt for the tour guide having to deal with this situation as she tried her best to do her job. On a few occasions she had to stop and tell the parents to stop him from touching very expensive artifacts.I believe the price is too much and I suggest audio equipment for translating would be more suitable for foreigners than having to read loads of information. Finally I suggest you open up a book to allow feedback from the public.I would not recommend this tour to anyone for the price.
I felt they were only interested in financial gain. The staff were not the the friendliest. The house tour was brilliant. The guide was amazing and very au fait with the family tree.....
Just visited the house and gardens today. Truly wonderful experience! Our tour guide was great! Mindful of interesting history.. the gardens and views of the ocean are certainly some of the most beautiful to be seen. Really enjoyed it! Highly recommend!!!
I felt it was very neglected, starting with the courtyard before the coffee shop.Things very tatty, rusty and broken, withered flowers in the tubs and just a general air of "we dont care about our customers/visitors" . Why not use the flowers from the beautiful garden.Young untrained staff in coffee shop. ...no atmosphere here again. Food ok but tables left uncleared.House tour good and interesting. We were there last Thursday. It should have been buzzing in June on the Wild Atlantic Way. Our party very disappointed and would not recommend it.
We went on the Woodland walk 10 euro per adult. We found the path was was very overgrown muddy and poorly sign posted not suitable for someone unsteady on their feet. The Alpine gardens were pleasant but a little untidy and needing attention. walled kitchen garden just been planted out so not much to see. Overall disappointed on the grounds could be much better.
Excellent tour and vast quantities of original items of furniture and art on view.
Lovely old house, still lived in by family members. Guided tours only, lasting about 50 minutes. Great exhibitions and definitely recommend a visit.
A very good tour, lovely grounds and lovely tea rooms afterwards, would highly recommend it. The 1916 exhibition is very interesting
Well worth a visit its steeped in history. We had a fantastic guide Leo who was do passionate about his job. He even brought us down stairs to the servants quarters. Very interesting.
On a very wet day we went to see Lisadell House and it didn t disappoint us. We throughly enjoyed our time there. The young lady playing the part of one of the sisters was excellent. We also had lunch there but unfortunately could not visit the gardens because of the weather. We spent a lovely morning and I highly recommend this place. There is a gift shop and toilets. Home made soup too.
The house and gardens are worth the visit, as they certainly historic and attractive. The management of the whole thing, however, is pretty terrible, and this might stop you from going. We were kicked out 20 minutes before closing - being told that the exhibition in the coach house and the cafe are closed now. At other times, staff in the coach house were rude and didnt seem to appreciate they had paying visitors. The tour guide rushed us through the house and didnt allow us to ask any questions.
Stunning views into the bay from the woods and lawns surrunding the house with anfabulously kept interiors with great pieces of furniture and paintings. Also really interesting guided tour through the house showing both life of upper and lower class.Highly recomend, need to comes back for longer wonder into the woods and gardens.
Great day out. Excellent Cafe, Gift Shop. The gardens are a delight to walk around the restoration of the Alpine Garden is a must to see and enjoy.
Totally worth a visit. The house is fantastic and really well restored by the current owners. The coach house has a coffee shop and museum of 1916 artifacts. Food is good but staff not great when busy. The house itself is a work of art. our guide was knowledgeable and you could see she really loved the house and its history. The downstairs were really interesting with all the rooms looking great and authentic. The walled gardens are on their way back to their former glory.
Such an amazing place, loved the tour!!! The gardens and grounds were such a delight to strole around. The staff and familty were so nice. 100% worth the trip when your visiting the wild the Atlantic way.
Very disappointed in the house. Very unkempt and dirty. Rubbish left around . Paper. Crisp packets and even rubble left in open view. No attempt to hide. The weeds at the main entrance should have warned us of what was to come. The Windows look as if they have never seen a cloth and the fireplaces had not been cleaned out since last used which must have been awhile ago as its been a heatwave in ireland for the past 4 weeks. Not worth the money.
Good place for families, who would like to spend good time with a bit of Irish history Lovely landscape with view of the ocean and alpine garden. You find here coffee dock with nice interior.
We went on a tour of Lisadell House and I have to say the history of the house was eye opening. The way they live and the way the staff was treated. It is well worth a visit to hear it. I learned alot. We had food booked it the cafe, but on the day another tour came before us and ate our food. We had to way but was well worth the wait. They couldnt do enough for us. Plenty of food for us. They absolutely spoil us rotten. The best was served to us. Thank you so much for everything.
Place nice. Guided tour but a little boring. Too much talking in one room. Would have liked to have spent more time in the lower ground areas. The kichen was there and servant bedrooms. We were rushed passed these as too much time was soent talking about the history if the people that lived there. There is no doubt that the guide knew his stuff but i feel it could have been made more interesting.
Interesting place to visit with loads of history and beautiful garden with seaview.
