Lions Of Stone - Tourist attraction in Sagaing, Myanmar
If you can imagine what they used to be they are impressive.
Kind of ugly but very grand in scale.
Impressive by their size and style, two giant statues depicting lions - with shapes and curves more evocative of elephants - sit across the street from Pahtodawgyi temple in Mingun. Damaged by earthquakes and eroded by time, they are still a sight to behold. Dont miss crossing the road when you visit the temple.
Amazing large lion statu.
Looks like elephants.
These cats are C H O N K Y
Grate place and nice view
Right ?
Im not quite sure what to make of the lion stone statues. Prior to the earthquakes, they werent in great condition and their heads fell off. What remains is their torso. So what you really see are round stones. You can get access to the beach from here, and there are some sellers here.

Lion heads fell off in earthquake
peccato per il degrado in cui versano
Posjetite Mingun.
Great temple by the river with huge white Lion statues. Nice to stroll the quiet compound and revere the many massive lion images. Very respectful and serene place but just outside the temple and at the steps...many kids gathered together to have a great swim, by the river. It was a fun time for them, jumping off from the temple, into the river below.A great time for photography!!!
old palace
It is not Lion! It is elephant!
Pretty cool lion sculptures. Walk past them to head down to the Irrawaddy.
As the name says, they are quite literally lions made of stone. Theyve seen better days mind you, seeing as their heads have broken off over the years and they are mostly large stone spheres now. Not much on their own, but worth a quick stop while seeing the sights in Mingun.
Too bad the statues are broken beyond recognition.
Theyre Nice, but only as an accompaniment to the other sites in Mingun
A corner area which have the broken statue, not too crowded
We should maintain together our historical place.
Stark zerstört. Zudem viele nervige Verkaufsstände.
They ain’t lion about this place.
Mandalay city,Karaweik hotel near by
Im sure these lion statues were once magnificent however they were largely destroyed in an earthquake on March 23rd, 1839.
Old pagoda that never finish the construction.
A unique donation of the King Boedaw Phayar to the Pahtoe Tawgyi.
Its a good museum. Its one of the multitude of museum you can seeThere are more interesting places but if you have time, Its good
Two massive headless lions guard the entrance to the temple. Impressive sight, keeps you wondering what they looked like when they were in one piece! You enter Mingun archaelogical site passing by these lions. Be ready to pay your 5k fee (as of 2018).
Not really sure how these things can get a rating of 5 stars, or how "Local Guides" can post 10+ photos but only have a couple of them be of the actual place theyre rating, but thats SE Asia for ya!
Lion head is falling to Irrawaddy river. Currently, only remain Lions body.
Part of the Mingun Pahtodawgyi, 2 Giant Mingun Lions guard facing the river, almost totally destroyed during the 1838 earthquake.
