Striking early Gothic church opening to an airy, multi-arched interior shaped like a rose.
It was nice early in the morning and there were no people and it was quiet.
Absolute masterpiece! And the colors! Wow!Did not have high expectations as the church looked like any other church in Germany, but what I saw inside took my breath away! It was probably the most impressive and colorful church I have visited. The light coming through the colored stained glass windows felt almost magical, something surreal and left a wonderful impression on me. Definitely worth visiting on a sunny day!I did enjoy the layout, or I should say floor plan, as it has a rounded base and with the portal and altar niches built in, the floor plan resembles a rose, a symbol of the Virgin Mary. It is a compact church, absolutely perfect for ceremonies for weddings (I would love to attend one here), yet magnificent and massive in size, especially looking up at the tall vaulted ceiling. Worth noticing are also the frescoes on the columns, on each of them depicting 12 apostles. The church is free to enter and its worth visiting the open cloister and the Saint Peters Cathedral next door.Visited in July 2022.
Absolutely lovely, and the courtyard was very empty both during the morning and afternoon. Came to Trier primarily for this spot and it was worth it!
Great building with this authentic mood and look really worth a visit
Dom and this church makes use understand what it meant to live in Trier during ancient times. The church itself is magnificent. The lighting inside of the church is wonderful. It is a must visit for anyone who visits Trier. This is a must go place after the Roman monuments.
Historic and beautiful! Words can not describe this church just go see it for yourself!!!!!
Beautiful church looking over the city
While not as large as the Saint Peters Cathedral, it is still well worth the visit. The stained glass windows are beautiful!
What an absolutely magical church! The glass work is unique, unlike any other church I have seen in Europe. Trier felt a bit disappointing this far, crowded and touristy, a bit lack lustre and this church made up for all of it for me. A definite MUST VISIT.
Stunning!
Beautiful portico
Beautiful church to visit if you are in the area! It is a UNESCO World heritage site.
Impresive Cathedral.
Beautiful church must visit
Magnificent church in the heart of trier, close to Palastgarten and Kaiserthermen.
One of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever visited. It is registered to UNESCO heritage.
This is the best thing to see in Trier by far! Just s very cool looking place with all thechurch buildings and the well kept greens.
One of the most beautiful churches I have ever visited.
Very lovely place
As impressive as the Dom, but different
Great fir day trip
Impressive cathedral
amazing light on a sunny day
The most fascinating thing about this church is the frescoes on the pillars! 12 pillars depict 12 apostles and 1 has Jesus Christ as the Man of Sorrows. These were originally painted in 15th C CE. Another thing that caught my eye was the 14th C wooden sculpture of Enthroned Madonna.
Lovely , sculpture is beautiful
The reliefs were incredible. Appreciated them letting us walk through even though they were preparing for a wedding.
Beautiful church. Truly massive. Unfortunately the hours are limited for visitation. Definitely worth a visit if youre in the area. Pictures are welcome, but do be respectful and turn off any flash settings >_>I believe this is designated a world UNESCO site. Add it to your list of youre trying to check those places off! There are quite a few things to admire in this church, including glass windows, elaborate sculptures and masonry, as well as a few other typical Christian-themed art works.
The Church of Our Lady is the oldest Gothic church in Germany, built in the 13th century It is located next to the Trier Dom. It is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Amazing
Beautiful gothic church
Religion coupled with History
Possibly the most impressive church I have visited in my life. I laugh now as I thought this was a cathedral, but is actually the church. We spent a good hour visiting this extraordinary church and all its many layers, trust me I’m normally the first to be out of a church, but this truly felt like a place that could make you believe in something if like me you are an atheist. I’d loved to have seen a service, I can imagine this place is just so popular. It’s clearly well loved and maintained. There is an interesting heating system, and random construction filled with human remains. If you visit trier you simply have to visit this magnificent building.
Stunning architecture!
Very beautifull church, with a very interesting story and a lot of diferent architectures stiles captured along the years it has. Loved the visit.
Spectacular, especially the stained glass windows !
Early Gothic church next too, and by many confused for, the Trierer Dom. Shaped as a rose this is a very spacious big church. Most of the detail is in the architectural decorations. Unique ensemble together with later Dom.
Beautiful building, definitely worth visiting when you’re in Trier.
Rich history
After visiting the porta nigra, which has an interesting history but isnt as interesting as a building, I wasnt expecting to see such a beautiful church. From an artistic point of view this is probably one of the prettiest churches in Europe.
Absolutely marvellous cathedral with a fort like structure but housing one of the most elegant , beautiful, artistic and well preserved interiors I have ever seen ; the place is grand and seeped in history. It has two cathedrals to start with. The more prominent and bigger one is to the left and is really massive , the interior hall is grand and has some amazing sculpture. You can go all the way the altar to see the original seamless robe of Christ. Surreal experience. The hall also has a yard that is right adjacent and has some tombs perched in a garden. extremely aesthetic setting. The smaller one is extremely modern ( checking glass panels , newer and very beautiful, when we went in, it had some soulful choir music playing and the way the whole setting was done , it was very touching and an ideal place to spend few mins with yourself, or God or universe or whoever you believe in. This place, with the beautiful square in front is an absolute must do if you are in this side of the country.
Very nice place.
Beautiful Cathedral. So much detail an intricacy all around the massive piece of architecture.
Pretty nice church, nice addition to a Dom Trier visit.
Beautiful building! Worth a visit!!!
Was that 2 churches or 1 huge connected church? It turned out to be both. A close look at the floor plan also revealed that there were 12 supporting pillars, and I noticed that each of them had an apostle as well as an article of the Apostles Creed painted on. All of these pillars and the paintings were completely visible only from one spot, marked by a black stone. I only realized later that the church grounds included beautiful cloisters situated behind the building, which I totally missed during my visit. What a waste...
A place full of history. If you find a guide ask him whatever you want. They are very helpful
Historical church, it should be a nice stop for a minute or so to enter and to visit its peaceful inner garden just in the middle of the effervescent town centre.
Beautiful spot in Trier.
Just next to the Dom is this churche just freshly renovated. Its different than the Dom and its nice to compare the different architecture.
war super
