The museum was housed in a two-storied Colonial building with displays in six galleries. Currently, the museum has in its collection 21,000 (August 2016objects, which include rare photographs, documents, coverage in both electronic and print media and materials used by freedom fighters and martyrs of the Liberation War. However the museum was able to display only around 1,300 objects due to paucity of space. A proper museum with an area of about 20,000 sq. m., endowed with modern concepts of display and archiving has been inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina on April 16, 2017. The Liberation War Museum excavated two killing fields in the Dhaka suburbs and preserves one site, and these human remains have added dimension to the displays.Attempts have been through the museum displays and its regular programmes for visitors to the museum to realise how the fundamental principles of democracy, secularism and nationalism embodied in the Bangladesh Constitution (1972evolved through popular struggle and human sacrifices. The most important of the programmes are two school programs, one for Dhaka city and a traveling museum for schools in the remote villages to create a living museum where visitors/participants can draw contemporary relevance for building national unity and a tolerant and secular society and fight abuses of human rights.Information about the museum in a Nutshell : Founded : 22 March 1996 Number of displays in archives : 21,000 (August 2016Number displayed: 1,300 (August 2016Number of visitors: 6,13,889 (October 2016Visitors to the Mirpur Jalladkhana 496,000 (July 2014School Outreach program : Dhaka city 178,000 (Aug 2016Reach-out program (through two buses: 6,40, 383 students, districts covered-64, upazillas 400, schools 1200.

It is located near the hospital NITOR, Sher-e-bangla Nagar, Agargaon -Syamoly link road, Dhaka. It bears the history of our Liberation war in 1971. But alas! Huge quantity of rubbish is piled up in front of it every day, causing air pollution.I do hope the authority concerned will take proper steps urgently to stop dumping rubbishes.

Liberation War Museum exhibits various documents, photos, and substances of the Liberation War of Bangladesh held in 1971. Not only that, but this museum is also exhibiting many photos and documents of the history line of the independence of Bangladesh. However, Liberation War Museum is a five-story building including five exhibition galleries and a conference hall room in the basement. Moreover, a library is on the ground floor of this museum. The museum building had been constructed in a way that sunlight come through all around of the building and each of the galleries are wheelchair accessible. The environment of this museum is excellent. Anyone could visit it by buying an entry ticket worth BDT20 for each.

Best place to grab the knowledge about our history. Just one piece of advice, take at least 3 hours time to visit the Museum. Take time to read the documents and watch the video carefully. Our politicians should make it mandatory for everyone to visit it once in a month. There is a sequence to visit. You can ask any staffs if you need assistance. Welcome to Bangladesh.

Its a gem in Dhaka city. An amazing state of the art museum upholding crucial history & information of Bangladesh in a very organized & interactive fashion. Its design is comparable to the Smithsonian museums of the US. Its a must visit place for children growing up in Bangladesh, to learn about Bangladesh. Therefore, I highly encourage schools & parents to take their children here. Since its a huge museum, its ideal to keep at least 3 hours in hand to properly explore the whole museum.Tickets are extremely reasonable & the museum is very well maintained.

This museum has a great collection of various historic objects as well as documents to flourish the knowledge and pride of a Bangladeshi. 01.11.21The Liberation War Museum is a museum at Agargaon in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, which commemorates the Bangladesh Liberation War that led to the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan. The Liberation War Museum began under the initiative of an eight-person board of trustees as a means of preserving the memory of the 1971 Liberation War. The trustees sought donations from the general public to fund the museum and for the general public to come forward with artifacts to be displayed artifacts from the war, including personal belongings, weapons and human remains, as well as creating an archive of documents and personal histories related to the war. Over the years the museum collected more than 21,000 artifacts (as of 2016), with some as exhibits on display in the museum and many more stored in its archives. The museum describes itself as "the outcome of a citizens effort" due to the crowd-funded nature of the museum (which is independent of the Govt. of Bangladeshand the collective contribution of the general public to the museums collection.Relocation:Due to a lack of space it was only possible to display a fraction of the collected artifacts at the original premises, so it was decided that a bigger, more modern premises was required. In 2009, an architectural contest was held for the new design of the museum, with architects Tanzim Hasan Salim and Naheed Farzana winning the first prize for their designs. In 2013 land was acquired in Agargaon for the new building and construction began. The new premises of the Liberation War Museum were officially opened on 16 April 2017.The new building provided much more space with 3500 square meters of gallery space.
