Leura Mall, Leura NSW 2780, Australia, Katoomba
Leura BLUE mountains - Tourist attraction in Katoomba, Australia
Leura village is known for its historic weatherboard cottages and cool climate gardens. Leura is beautiful.Leura Mall consists of heritage shops within a cool climate garden setting. The street frontage is listed with the NSW National Trust as an Urban Conservation Area, Cafes dominate and they can be busy on weekends. You may need to wait for a table at the popular ones or book ahead. One of the unique features of Leura Mall is the traffic island with cherry trees that separates the two lanes of traffic. The shops were built from 1900 to 1920 but the traffic island was built in the 1940s to address gradient and drainage issues. The cherry trees were planted in 1982 with funds raised from the first Leura Village Fair.Leura Mall is managed by a village association and a volunteer garden group. They have a compost corner to help reach net-zero / carbon neutral.Apparently about 600,000 people visit Leura Mall a year. Parking nearby can be challenging on weekends. The parking area is just behind the shops off Megalong Street (east). Otherwise there is plenty of parking in local streets. We like walking the local streets and bush tracks. A favourite is to continue down Leura Mall to Olympian Rock, then walk back via Balmoral Street. Olympian Rock looks over the Jamison Valley. The garden walk is about 30 minutes each way. The track to Olympian Rock is 300 metres each way with lots of steps. Its Grade 3. (I have added a separate description and photos of Olympian Rock to Google Maps). The walk from Leura Mall to Olympian Rock shows how extraordinary and unique Leura is because it combines cultural and natural landscape settings at such a high standard.

Always beautiful with excellent shops
Leura Mall is like the Paddington of the Blue Mountains. Lovely shops, villagey atmosphere. We were passing through in the way to a hiking spot, but would definitely stop there in the future.
