Les Invalides in Houilles
Description
Privilege
A great sight from in and out . Need to be there to experience its grandeur .
Get the ticket online to avoid the queue. There is another ticket office right next to the tomb at the back end of the facility, usually with much smaller queue if you happen to need a free ticket for a child (cant get that online, you need to queue separately apparently). You can enter the premises and the courtyard for free actually, but to enter the samller exhibitions inside of the buildings and the tomb you need tickets. Cafe is ok, and has a separate bathroom. The Tomb of Napoleon is the showstopper here.
MoreVery pretty and impressive how big it is.Cool architecture. Beware of bathrooms outside the museum, you have to pay to use it.Its Cool to see all the weaponry on display.
MoreAmazing view, great place, completely beautiful!
The Dome of the Invalides is a very significant part of French history. There is the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the building is part of the Les Invalides Complex, which includes the Military Museum, the Hotel Invalides, Rodin Museum, Esplanade Les Invalides, among others.
MoreThe place where Napoleon is buried. Historical landmark from 1677
An amazing place full of history from the modern age and far back to napoleonic times and beyond. We enjoy wartime history and seeing artefacts from times gone by.Entry charges were reasonable at €14 an adult for the entire museum.
MoreWonderful place to visit before/after doing the Rodin museum nearby, especially must if you enjoy history. It contains the army museum and Napoleons tomb. And definitely come for the beautiful architecture We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was not crowded. Also, many wonderful parks around to check out.
MoreI thoroughly recommend visiting..Many museums on site...Napoleons Tomb..French battles through the ages and ww1 and ww2...Along with the modern French army we see todayFantastic array of exhibits on display in each museum...Lots of visual and audio information to see and hear along the wayUnfortunately I had a limited time planned for my visit and really should have planned much more...Its easy to spend all day here ...You are free to visit the café and tour the grounds free of charge...But you will need a ticket for entry into the museums...Check what tickets are required before you go..Theyre not expensive !!As their rules vary in France if you are from the UK....
MoreGreat visit today to the Hôtel des Invalides. The museum is large, with lots of war related things, and the architecture in the buildings is great. The highlight was of course Napoleon’s tomb. I would recommend to anyone who wants to know more about French military history, or someone with a passion for revolution era swords/guns (there are loads of these).
MoreExceptional Architecture and Historical Collections at this place in Paris...
Historical and beautiful building. It is well worth a visit.
A historical place, unmissable. In the heart of Paris, this museum is a watchdog of history. It houses the tomb of Napoleon, among other extraordinary attractions. It is definitely a basic destination if you visit Paris.
MoreThis is probably the best museum Ive been to. And its just so underrated because everybody are in the bandwagon of the Louvre. This place tells so much history of the country refreshingly through the French military perspective. A sharp turn from the many art museums in the city. In fact, Ive learned so much about France than any other museum around. This has nearly a hundred audioguide spots and thats all exhibits not having one. Likely a day or half of it is what it will take for the visitor. Plus, there are plenty of engaging video screens that can tell the story too of each chapters of the military.
MoreLocation is fantastic, the Dome is very impressive. Seeing the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte standing in the middle of the dome is quite overwhelming, especially if you remember that due to Napoleon we have our family names. The museum is impressive as well, from WWII to older legacies of France. Only a 3 star rating due to the fact that almost all of the explanations in the museum are in French only. With lots of international visitors in Paris that is a missed opportunity.
MoreIts an amazing place, though not because I found it moving or emotional. Its a startling tribute to a man who affected a lot of peoples lives, and is responsible for a great deal of death and destruction. Next to the pyramids I havent ever seen a greater display of hubris and ego. Its really simmering to see.
MoreTop experience. Our son was looking forward for the tomb of Napoleon and along the way we discovered museum of the army. We visited only the I. and Ii. World war and it was very educational, interesting and great. Unfortunately we did not have the time for more.Highly recommended!!!!
MoreGreat place! I am in Paris for the sixth time, but I visited this museum for the first time. Fantastic location of the Charles de Gaulle museum. Magical!
MoreReally cool place!! Bigger than you would expect so give it at least a half day.
Huge military exhibition from the medieval times to WW2. The entry is free for EU citiziens under 26 which is great

MoreWas perfect, but to come into the Dom you have to pay 14€ what is overpriced. You can just go for free to all the other rooms
MoreA impressive military museum and the building is also mindblowing
Great reproduction of lights, the story was engaging! However I still think it was a bit expensive for what it was, but still recommend for people who won’t be in Paris long
MoreFine hiatory. Well worth the visit.
I could see the wonderful events of French soldiers. This is a solemn space.
We were here on a Monday when everything is closed. As you can see on the picture, lots of gendarmerie around.
MoreEverything from the sitting in gardens in front to the building itself is amazing! But the real crown jewel is going inside to the tomb of Napoleon.. and its so much more than that... the corner chapels, the dome art, the marble everything, the other tombs inside of napoleons generals and (somefamily. Youll get a lot more than you bargained for!
MoreSolid army museum. Heavy on Napoleon & medieval, light on the 2 work wars. Check out the dioramas on the top floor.
MoreBeautiful buildings with many different museums under one roof all for the same ticket. You can spend many hours touring each exhibit.
MoreMust visit together with war museum.... worth every euro... allocate at least half a day
MoreMany parks around where you can chill and hang out especially when the weather is nice.
MoreYou can see the outside parts without paying, but the ticket price is well worth it because you can see quite a bit. Plan ahead and arrive before noon to avoid large crowds of school kids on field trip and teenagers.
MoreThis museum is full of fantastic information and exhibits. The website says allow 2 hours for your visit, I would allow at least 4 or more if you want to see it all and take it all in. So much history here in such a beautiful place. The only thing I would say is all the displays have limited English so next time Ill be getting the audio tour to accompany the visit.
MoreGreat history and you can visit for free. On the back sode is grave of Napoleon. You can see a lot of old Franch power. A very beautiful building with a lovely courtyard surrounded by various statues, cannons and beautiful architecture. Great to look at as it takes you back to a time that was not so nice. That is why it is important to respect and be aware of history. If you have an hour or two to spare and dont know what to do, stop here.
MoreIts a good experience. A bit complicated to understand the process. Dont buy the audio tour. The most impressive the chapel and the dome. The museums are ok . It takes a lot of time.If u are short..just chapel and dome.
MoreTogether with Pantheon, the most impressive historical points in Paris one has to visit, if he visits this city for the first time of his life.
MoreVery static and not interesting museum of weapons. The church with the Napoleon’s tomb is worth seeing though.
MoreGreat museum, a lot of small rooms with specific themes
Napoleons tomb is spectacular, the museum in the back is huge and worth the visit. Beautiful. The museum has received considerable funding as it was very abundant with artifacts and information. The history behind les invalides is a rich one as well, king Louis the 14th was exceptional.
MoreLes Invalides is a great place to visit when in Paris! It doesn’t get as crowded as other historical places which gives you an opportunity to truly admire the place. When you enter, you will get a chance to see a lot of wonderful rabbits jumping along the park. The musée de l’armée has the famous tomb of Napoleon. It’s a beautiful place with a magnificent dome just above the tomb. There is a cafe and restrooms available and everything is very clean. It’s a great place to go with the family! Just make sure to bring water and comfortable shoes because you will want to walk around the whole park! You can even see the Eiffel tour from the park!
MoreIncredible museum of the history of the French Army over the centuries. The prowess and achievements over the centuries are superbly displayed. Lots of signs are in English which helps as a tourist! A must visit in Paris, especially the Napoleonic section - not to mention his tomb itself!
MoreA must go place if you are interested in military history or a fan of Napoleon. The place includes multiple parts like napoleon tomb, musée of the army etc. Recommend to get the audio which definitely gives more insights of the place.
MoreWe didnt actually go in to the building fully (any paid parts, anywaysbut the gift shop was magnificent! I have a nephew obsessed with Napoleon and I know this museum gift shop was the best shot in Paris to get one of his hats.
MoreOne of the most cultural places in Paris, have others museums inside and there is a Cathedral of St Louis des Invalides
MoreIf you like history and war outfits this is a place to visit. It has a huge display of all the weird weapons used during evolution of mankind. Also very famous place to visit the Napoleon Tomb. Its definitely amazing all the diverse equipment you can see in this huge exposition.
MoreI have no idea why this place is not on every "must see" list of Paris! The place of Napoléons burial and a huge range of artefacts from wars past (dating back to the Corinthian age 700-800 BC). We actually spent more time here than in the Louvre! The best surprise was stumbling across Napoléons actual horse stuffed and on display in the corner of one of the exhibit rooms.
MoreOne of the best monuments in Paris. The interior is wonderful, so is the church you can find inside. Worth going when there is a service so that you can hear the choir. The museum was also nice with a beautiful collection of weapons. All in all a wonderful experience with a lot of walking.
MoreBeautiful building in an open space surrounded by cannons with the amazing views of the Tour Eiffel and the Obelisk. I didnt go inside but it looked pretty. Thanks to it, I will plan a visit to the museum in my next visit
MoreAn exceptional building with lot of history. We love the Dome inside and out. Napoleons tomb was such an amazing sight to see in Paris. All the military history you can see in this building , it covers the French Army History. Architecture is really impressive, my photos will not do justice to this beautiful dome..Visit this place if are around Paris
