Updating to answer:Thank you for answering. Unfortunately I see that your answer is as rude as you were in person, and as argumentative as you other responses to the (manyvery negative reviews. It is always sad when you bump into someone who is so incredibly rude and aggressive with no reson, it makes you think what might be wrong with them. This review is not against the place itself or the people working there, I only recommend anyone who reads to avoid this restaurant if you do not want to risk your night out to be ruined by someone who is working and (and getting paidto give you a nice experience.Of course a reader cannot know who is telling things the right way, but one person asking one thing at the counter is hardly "people jumping up and down". Also, this is definitely not the first time I have been at a restaurant with table service, and my table was never left waiting for 40-50 minutes without anyone showing up. If staff is too busy to serve people in a reasonable time, it is probably time to hire more.As for cash payment, when people pay in cash it usually takes much more time to count money and give change, so I doubt you do it to save time. A 10% discount for cash payment seems a bit excessive to me, you are clearly not (onlyoffsetting debit card fees.I would also like to inform you that the Which? cash initiative you adhered to is not to avoid the government to "take control of our cash" (as you declare on your website), but is meant to help people with limited access to digital and more technological forms of payment.Original review:It was a negative experience. I went there for my friends birthday, who was hoping to have a special evening. Unfortunately the owner of the place was annoying the whole night, since we stepped in.Food was taking really long to arrive, we went to ask why, and the owner without even listening asked us to sit down, saying that they were only doing table service. In that case, one should not have people wait for an hour for food without any explanation. Also, the owner slammed the bottle on the table a few times. Its weird that an owner offers such a bad service, considering also that the waitress was actually really nice and friendly. Also, we didnt like how the waitress was being treated. My friend had her birthday ruined by the bad vibe.Something that I found confusing is that a meal deal was offered if we paid in cash. We could have paid by card, but paying à la carte, which was around 10% more expensive. I have never seen that, i.e. offering a discount to pay cash. Does it have anything to do with taxation? I am perplexed.I would not recommend this place.

Avoid avoid avoid. Worst experience Ive had in a restaurant. The manager is in the wrong job, imho. 1970s attitude and customer service - positively hostile. Yes, really, hostile.Horribly confusing place - the menu, rules, charges. Look at their website - this will be reflective of your visit, if you make the mistake of visiting - chaos - but they *will* gauge you when it comes to costs. Gruff, ignorant, offensive manager. If my experience was representative of this place - avoid it, if you dont want to be offended, or your family members leaving in tears.

Charming looking place from the outside, but unfortunately terrible food throughout. Murdering french classics and overpriced supermarkets wine sold as bin end. Reprieved by the great live music but avoid if you are thinking of eating.

During a time like we are going through now, where all of us are struggling one way or another thanks to COVID, this is the first establishment I have come across that charges you a cancellation fee if you cannot attend due to covid symptoms. Where most restaurants, events, theatre, experiences are thankful for being responsible not attending while sick, offering refunds, vouchers or accepting a cancellation with no fee - Le QuecumBar does not, charging a £30 cancellation fee. When emailed to ask about this, I was explained a sob story of how they are unlikely to survive 2022 and how the third party booking site takes a cut. Firstly, that third party site has other establishments that do not have negative cancellation policies, so the cancellation fee is set by yourselves. But more importantly, It is sad, I wouldn’t want them to go under, I want all business to make it through. Unfortunately we are all struggling one way or another, I have had to spend a lot of money on medicating myself due to current symptoms but I suppose that’s of no interest to this establishment. My concern is that in a climate like this, where it is highly likely we could catch covid or have covid-like symptoms, we will be faced with two options: (1we just don’t go out, don’t book anywhere and therefore don’t risk losing money if we get symptoms on the day; (2we only book at establishments that have positive cancellation policies. Either way, sounds like your establishment will lose out - please reconsider for future patrons but I doubt I’ll support a place like this. Thanks. Edited in response to the reply; like I said - you set the cancellation NOT.the platform so stop with that BS as an excuse. Of course the platform takes a cut, it’s a business for them too. And of course you’re getting cancellations on the day, Nov-Jan experienced the highest number of infection rates as omicron raged through London. Your excuse is absolutely pathetic and totally lacking in any empathy. And I will say it again, there is no other establishment who imposed this strict cancellation- so when you say “like so many others” you’re again talking rubbish because no one else is doing this. Yes I appreciate things may change as covid become less prevalent but during the absolute peak - come on? I feel like your response made it even worse!

Great dinning experience, the food is always spot on, and has a good selection of dishes, the wine is ever flowing, the live music is great, but what makes a great dinning experience is the whole atmosphere of the place, the venue, and the incredibly sassy but hilarious staff.Taken a few friends from east London here, and every time I love to see their faces go from , why am in the middle of Battersea to ooh I get it, it’s great!

The place is amazing, great music and ok food but the service is appalling. The lady serving is basically a bully and I dont even understand why these kind of people would work in customer service. If you are angry with humanity please just change job? As you can see there are other other customers with the same feedback. Maybe the problem its not with the customers? Why being so rude? The guy serving initially was great and when she appeared everything became super awkward.

Food was delicious and the music was wonderful. What would have otherwise been a great evening was marred by a very rude waitress who didn’t want to give us more time to choose our wine, then proceeded to empty a whole bottle in 3 glasses without asking who was drinking and was overall very brash.

Quiant restaurant tucked away from busy streets. Interesting decor with intimate corners to spend time with friends and loved ones. Food is great and well cooked, albeit light on seasoning but thats personal preference. Great place but cannot recommend due to staff behaviour. One of the wait staff was rude, pushy and belligerent. Ive never faced this behaviour expect from drunk yobs on the street asking for crack so its funny when paying 50 pounds each for a meal getting this behaviour. The other wait staff are angels but its clear this place needs a change in wait staff or management before I can recommend anyone going back.

Unfortunately, we did not have a positive visit. We ordered the £23 house red, and after a while we’re offered a snack, the owner suggested Camembert. When we received the bill the Camembert was charged at £15, plus £3 for bread with it, £6 each for the live music plus tip. So the bill was £62. The bill was written on paper rather than printed by a till. We felt ripped off and uncomfortable. It’s local to us but we won’t be going back. I am surprised that the owner charged us so much as if we were returning guest we would have made her much more money over the long term. Shortsighted.

I attended the concert with Paulus Schafer and guests on a wet Monday evening in October. It was a truly memorable evening. The musicians were top class, the food was fabulous and the staff served us well & kept us entertained. All hosted by the indomitable Sylvia, whose genuine passion for gypsy jazz is what makes this place a true hidden gem amongst music venues.

Over a month since we went here. Coming from France and being big Django fans, then reading the mix of horrendous reviews vs great reviews we went in with our eyes wide open - expecting that we could in fact have a hideous time or it could be great - it lived up to our expectations. The waiter (Marcowas working his last shift here, he was exceptional, had an outstanding rapport with the clients and even persuaded some clients who were leaving (as the owner had been obnoxious to themto stay and enjoy their evening. They changed their minds again when thirty minutes later when the owner came back and started verbally abusing them. The vibe and decor in the garden was outstanding - exactly as in the photos but better! Someone somewhere has put a great deal of creativity and love into this. Perhaps the previous owner? The food - possibly the worst Tartiflette ever! More of a liquid mush with some Reblechon rind popped ontop for authenticity.Rillette was great, the lamb was passable, dessert... also passable. The band - sweet but scared of the owner and possibly wont return to play again as its not worth the anguish. The wine - impressed with the wine list, which even included a Madiran though lots out of stock (we can blame Brexit or the pandemic for thatPriced on the high side but we enjoyed it all the same.Customer service - customers were humiliated in front of us, shouted at and experienced appaulling customer service. The wonderful Marco did his best to keep the owner at bay - he succeeded with us, other people left, lots of people who saw her first turned and raced out quickly and as per the photos Ill pop up in a bit, she was aggressive, rude and obnoxious to pretty much everyone.Perhaps she was having a bad day so we should give the old lady the benefit of the doubt. She was also smoking a cigarette in the kitchen when we arrived - thought this was illegal, if not simply unhygenic!Would we return? Absolutely not. Only because we would hate to line the old ladys pockets having seen her being so rude to so many, including her poor staff members.Star rating for Marco alone would be a TEN!The meal gets a 2Wine list vs availability 3 - 4(they tried)Decor would be 5 full stars (just dont go to the loo as its disgusting)Entertainment 3Owner is a mad minus 10, she has the hide of an elephant so are pretty sure that wont even offend.Such a great shame as the venue has so much to offer. If you go there with your eyes wide open and dont expect too much then you potentially could have a fun evening (if the owner lets you have a table in the first place). If you want to go to take friends... take a rain check as they will not be impressed.

Starters were ok. Mains took an hour to come out. Beware the wine list is not detailed. We were charged £39 for a £9 bottle which is commonly sold in the supermarket. There is a £6 per person live music charge which we found out when the bill came out. The musicians also came round the tables asking for cash....Staff made us feel uncomfortable and they were very defensive rather than understanding. Could be a great place but it feels that they are trying to take advantage of their customers. Very unfortunate.

We had fantastic food. The wow factor however wasnt the food it was our waiter Pier. We begun our dining experience at 6pm as we wanted to enjoy the 3 course early evening dining offer. I had the squid to start which was beautifully cooked & seasoned. My husband had the Catalan mushrooms which were so tasty with just the right amount of chilli. Our mains were the minted lamb shank with was so tender & served with lovely fresh seasonal veg. I opted for the haggis & scallops. The dish was well presented the haggis delicious & a great portion. I was a little disappointed with the size of the scallops but really enjoyed the whole dish. Desert was creme brulee for me & melt in the middle chocolate pudding for my hubby. Both were delicious. The highlight of our dining experience was Pierre the Swedish waiter who was hilarious, chatty & made our evening with his interesting waiting style. You just had to have been there.

Exceptionally poor!So they stop serving food 1:15 hrs before they close, but have a band starting at that time, so not so crazy to assume one could get a snack and listen to the band in that time if full meals were unavailable. But no that’s not the case. We were patronisingly hissed at by the stale-cigarette-breathed owner (who stood far too close considering it’s pandemic time!and told that it was ONLY a restaurant, despite evidence to the contrary, and then given the choice of 2 overpriced dishes to hurriedly choose from.Neither were vegan and when I asked for a vegan option she balked at that question, even though they state that they make vegan dishes. This woman’s/the owner’s customer service really needs some focussed work. The atmosphere created by the diners and band seemed pleasant, though unfortunately that’s all that was.We should have heeded the 3.7 star rating, the owner’s tedious conspiracy theory nonsense on card payments and masks, and her desperately, embarrassingly defensive responses to other people’s reviews on Google!

Absolutely terrible experience. Bought tickets (£10for a concert and didnt notice the very fine print of £25pp minumum spend. Since we had dinner beforehand we did not have what to spend £25pp on. The venue was empty so we were not taking the place of someone who would have ordered dinner. When we chatted to the owner about this (who at first sent the waiter to speak to us, in quite a passive-agressive tone), we got a terrible response, very agressive and rude, constantly stating "we are not a charity". No effort whatsoever to solve the issue. Even asked us "Where are you from" when noticing our non-british accents. Not to mention the sangria we ordered was undrinkable and the sparkling water was still. We left after the first set despite having paid for the concert tickets. Never going back to this place, and would advise to stay away from it.

Awful customer service. Genuinely can’t believe how we were spoken to. Will not be booking again. In regards to the managers response below I’ll continue here:The review was based on the way the manager spoke to my partner and I. We’ve not experienced such passive aggressive behaviour at a restaurant before and all you have to do is look at her responses to negative reviews here! It’s soo argumentative - with no desire of trying to fix the situation. It’s amazing really - imagine if you approached these situations differently, you might actually be able to make the people, who’ve had poor experience with you, returning customers!?

So much potential yet such a disappointing experience. The pushy service and constant pressure to order (expensiveplates and drinks completely ruined everything. The waiter was completely alone waiting on 9/10 tables, and seemed stressed (poor bloke). There was a dispute with the bill because they had offered a free drink with our meal which never came. This turned into a very uncomfortable and awkward situation with the manager refusing to come out and instead getting this poor waiter to do her dirty work for her. I always try to give the benefit of the doubt and must say that the setting and food were very good but I will not be returning and I urge everyone to stay away.

DrinksThe music enticed us in as we walked by. Ordered a jug of sangria which tasted awful and unlike any sangria I have tasted before. I didn’t complain as the place was empty and felt bad. We couldn’t drink the sangria - went to pay and it was the most expensive jug I have ever paid for - £40! Complete rip off -DONT GO THERE!

Terrible manager ruined evening. Enforced miminum £25 spend (£29 inc service charge). She coninually pressured us too spend more and threatened too throw us out if we did not spend more. Every time we did not order anything when asked we were met with a snide smerk.Anti mask and anti vaccine mentality of manager was also not appreciate. None of the staff wore masks and customers were activly encoraged to not wear masks or get the vaccine by the manager.Live music was great and ambiance was great. I had no food but what I saw looked delicious and sizeable. However the manager contantly reminding us of the £25 minimum ruined our night.

Wonderfully quaint & cosy with great music & service and okay foodIt’s a very cool pub with amazing decor and ambience. The gypsy jazz live music is absolutely fantastic. The cocktails and drinks are great. The food is rustic French but to be honest, a bit of a let down. The baked Camembert was okay - let down by very average bread that a bit stale. The tartiflette main was also nice but a bit bland. The creme brûlée dessert was stone cold. Overall we paid about £80 per person which seemed like a lot for what we had.Well worth the visit, perhaps pick something else from the menu and watch how much you’re spending!

We recently had our wedding at Le QuecumBar and it was completely amazing! Sylvia was so accommodating for what we wanted to do and offered really helpful suggestions to make things work. The staff are absolutely sensational and were efficient, polite and fun - they really made the evening. The venue itself is an absolute gem in the midst of never ending chain restaurants. The decor is eclectic and completely charming and the secret garden is a heavenly mix of character, flowers and fairy lights. We could not have asked for anything more and our guests were all completely blown away by the place and the staff.

Interesting place, great spot in Battersea with live music from talented musicians. Waiting staff super friendly. We had read the reviews prior and were nervous to attend as one of our party is vegan, even though we had called and emailed ahead this did cause issues in the food and treatment of us. "Why dont you eat meat whats wrong with you" "alcohol isnt vegan" were just two of the comments from the owner who, as expected, was most unpleasant. Despite this we remained unphased as we knew from the reviews that this might happen and found it amusing if anything. The food was fresh from the freezer and pretty dismal unfortunately which let the evening down. Wont be returning. My advice - read the reviews and make your own judgement but theyre all pretty accurate.Perhaps instead of keyboard attacks Le Quecumbar should listen to the reviews and implement the changes to probably see a marked increase in return custom.

Lovely place. Decor is gorgeous and the food is delicious (if overpriced). What really let it all down was the monstrous combative behaviour of the owner. Constantly bullying us to buy more food and drinks and refusing us water. This could be quite fun if youre in the mood for a blazing row but if you just want a nice night out you should go elsewhere.

RESTAURANT NIGHTMARE, if only I could give this place zero stars due to the service by the owner. She was very rude and forceful which could be read in others reviews but we thought surely not. But she actually is!We made a booking for 4 people 30minutes prior to arrival, upon entry we had to pay a cover charge at the door for the music, then we were seated at a tiny table after being yelled out by the owner to choose one with 4 table settings so we were stuck right next to the live music speakers. We then ordered drinks and were chatting deciding what we wanted for dinner. Then the owner comes and sits at the table and talks through the menu. Very awkwardly we were forced to make up our minds rather than leaving us and giving us a few more minutes by ourselves to think about our dinner choice. Then we were told that we had to order 2 courses and that if we didnt, we did not know how to dine out properly and that we were wasting her time. With that, we left the restaurant. If she had done the math compared to other same size tables where generally only 2 people were seating, she would of received more money in the end with us just ordering a main and drinks. And with the band there I am sure we would of ended up ordering another round of drinks which you would expect to have a better markup value than an entree price. While I acknowledge that the booking had fine print at the bottom about the two courses (only reading when I got home), I have never ever see someone so forceful on how a customer spends their money. Especially, during coronavirus time where jobs are unstable and who knows what home stresses people are currently facing.I would advise you to avoid coming to this place, even though the decor and service staff (besides the ownerare so lovely.

I’ve been a customer of this amazing London gem for well over a decade. Sylvia, the owner, is a legend who seeks out the greatest jazz talents in Europe and the UK. She puts her heart and soul into her homey restaurant and jazz club and all that effort pays off. If you like jazz and a wonderfully unique dining experience then check out this special venue. It is a treat.

This would have been a lovely evening, the food was good, the staff were courteous and the musicians fun and talented but unfortunately our evening was ruined by the rudeness and arrogance of the owner Sylvia. We spent just over £100 between the two of us over the two hours we were there but were berated repeatedly for our choices and told that if she’d known how little we would eat (mains, a shared dessert and a bottle of wineshe would have turned us away. This in a restaurant that was more than half empty. It was appalling and other reviews show we’re not the only ones to have been treated like that. Looking at other reviews by customers who’ve then been slated in response I fully expect more rudeness, but I feel I have to warn people so they don’t suffer similar experiences.

Took my girlfriend their for valentines for a set 3 course meal. Baring in mind I have paid £30 for the privilege of having a table to sit at from nine onwards, it was just plain insulting to be served our main course 1 hour and 45 mins after being sat down as one of the first tables for the later slot. While the food was good and the staff were nice, speed of service was appalling considering I spend all in all £180 for the 3 hours I was there with my girlfriend. I most certainly didn’t expect to be eating my main after the main act had finished their set. The restaurant was clearly understaffed in every way and it really ruined the night for me and my misses.

Ive been going to Le Quecumbar for some years and recommend it to everyone that likes food, wine and good live music. It never fails to be a special night. The atmosphere is intimate the decor is a spectacle - especially in the summer, as the garden is beautiful.I had my 40th birthday there as a private event, and we held a cabaret-style evening, with an early dinner for family. Everything was perfect. All of the team working were highly attentive and Sylvia did everything in her power to make the night go smoothly. This is a great venue. Dont be put off by some of these reviews if you havent been. It would be a shame to miss out on it, purely because its a unique place and thats the real magic of Le Quecumbar.

We’ve been to this restaurant a few times some years ago, and as soon as you enter, there’s a real warmth about it.It’s quietly tucked away in a residential area of Battersea, and is perfectly suited to an intimate dinner with someone you love. The live music is absolutely terrific and is somehow a winning combination with the overall quirkiness of the restaurant. However, there’s was only one waiter, and although he was utterly lovely, our meal took a long time to reach the table. When it did arrive, it could not be faulted, but the wait was positively painful! We didn’t feel we could hang in there for the dessert and proceeded to pay our bill. This was such a shame and, despite the ambience of the restaurant, we felt it was the only option to be had.

Ava is a wonderful singer, performing some timeless classics. The garden is magical. So thats the good news.We (4 of usvisited this Battersea classic on a warm Friday evening after 8.30pm...so paid our entry fees and ordered drinks. As the evening progressed we ordered more drinks. Unfortunately when one of our party asked for a coffee we were told it was not policy to serve coffee if you havent eaten. So that abruptly ended our visit. Hugely short sighted and a pointless policy...especially when the venue was more than half empty. I think Im being generous. There were maybe 10 other customers in the bar. The food is underwhelming having eaten there before and why we ate elsewhere. London needs great live music venues. This venue has been in Battersea for a long time. So please whoever owns Le QuecumBar get in there, shake it up and make some changes fast or I fear for the future of the venue.

Two stages in a beautiful, rustic and cosy U shaped establishment tucked away on old Battersea High St. host nightly music events featuring Europes "gypsy jazz" artists. The home of Londons gypsy jazz community. Great players come from all over town and even further afield. Theres a fantastic free jam session on Tuesdays and a full program of pre-booked artists most other nights. Many of the gigs are free entry if you arrive before 8, and £6 afterwards. Some are a little more expensive and youll need to book in advance. Menu is limited but tasty. Go! You wont regret it.

Quecumbar is a small intimate bar. Good parking and some great musicians. They also serve food at a reasonable price.

For a place to get such varied reviews means it’s probably worth a visit just to decide for yourself. This is a great find. Original, old school, fun and charming. The music makes this venue and it is always absolutely amazing. They are not super speedy but to me (and I have complained in many places beforeis the whole charm of this place. The waitress is lovely and has to deal with a lot of tables , so is often stressed but again - we spoke to her and she was lovely. If you want a “modern” quick fix dinner , don’t come here. If you want some amazing ambiance, are with good friends who appreciate musicians and want some good music and food - do come.Ps - I was dining and saw the party of 8 that left an appalling review below and was in fact appalled at their behaviour. of course there is a minimum spend for a large group on a Saturday night at a live music venue. To leave without paying and then leave a negative review is outrageous.

Fantastic venue. Highly recommended. Will def be going again. We were there Tuesday night for the gypsy jazz jam session. We had a meal and bottle of wine. Baked trout was top notch. Pork and honey was very tasty. Wine was fine. Service was excellent. She was very busy as the evening grew but she was so cheerful and helpful. Music was outstanding. World class. There were about 12 musicians in the house. They rotated 4 or 5 at a time into the tiny stage, all held together (musicallyby the superb double bassist. Theyve done a great job recreating the ambiance of 30s Parisienne jazz cafe. Loved our night out here.
