Le Foundouk - Restaurant in Marrakech, Morocco
Le Foundouk is fantastic ! The food was exquisite and the staff super friendly !We were greeted by the owner and chef who made the whole experience even more fabulous 👌I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Marrakech !
Beautiful restaurant and rooftop but tangia wasn’t as good as other restaurants nearby
Beautiful authentic Moroccan restaurant in the heart of the Medina - well worth the walk!!
Good food, pity there isnt really a view from the rooftop.
I liked the place and would come back. Without Internet we needed a guide to take us to the resto. Plenty of vegetarian options. My favourite dishes were the Moroccan Salad and the aubergine. The fondant was really good. I found the tagine ok. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit. We sat on the roof which was cooler but very windy. I thought their toilets were very nice. It was like being under a waterfall surrounded by roses!
So delicious! The food was just unreal and serves alcohol, which is a bonus. Was sort of expensive for Marrakech, being in the €50-60 range for two people, but for the service and quality it was well worth it.
Welcome to the ashtray palace! We were flabbergasted to discover that this elegant restaurant ALLOWS SMOKING EVERYWHERE, and our meal was marred by having an active smoker at a nearby table. They can’t even be bothered to offer a separate non-smoking area, something that would be totally possible given the layout of the restaurant across two floors. When we questioned a staff member about this, we were told it was ‘the owner’s decision’.Unfortunately the beautiful interior does not make up for the very standard food and the feeling of having eaten dinner inside an ashtray.
Top restaurant in Marrakech, best Lamb i m eat in my Life. Champagne Preserved at the top. 5 star
Delicious food and friendly service
Good food and service, outdoor seating were nice for drinks. Very enjoyable dinner there, the Fish sauce for Fish Couscous was so delicious. If u like lobster or shrimp soups you have to try it.
Great place, lots of atmosphere and super good service. Made to feel very welcome. Food was really good.. take the lamb shank! Pistachio creme brûlée’s are amazing too !
Splendurous location in the heart of the Marrakech Old Town. Magnificent interiors with SOTA decoration. Amazing staff. Beautiful terrace (very well heated too). And a menu that lives up to the glory of its name.
Absolutely fantastic meal. Walked in at opening time and was seated immediately. (We were lucky though I would recommend booking! The waiters were very friendly and served us quickly and efficiently. The briouettes (I think thats the correct spelling...Were to die for as a starter and I had the leg of lamb with pears for main; also an incredible meal. Served as a tagine with a side of couscous. Absolutely delicious! The green foundouk cocktail is a good choice as well but go slow! They pack a punch as hulky as the colour!
Limited menu options for my eating restrictions (vegetarian and avoiding raw producebut the vegetarian tagine was the best weve had! The service was very good and the ambiance was lovely, especially the heated rooftop terrace. Otherwise, the rest of the food we ordered was just okay and the chocolate fondant cake paled in comparison to the similarly upscale restaurant next door (Le Trou Au Mur).
Awesome atmosphere, the best restaurant Ive been so far during my trip in Morocco.Ive ordered a fondouk cocktail to drink and fish couscous as main. I must say it was the best I had so far. Also the pistachio creme brulee was delicious, highly recommended.
Despite the food wasnt something special and very expensive, there was something worst. The guy in the door offered to guide us to the main square. When we arrived, he was asking money for the guidance and we gave him, he was asking for more. Its usual in Marroco to ask money but i wasnt expected this for a so famous restaurant.
An amazingly restored foundouk (guest house for a caravan sarai memberturned into a restaurant with food which, although described as variable to me, was excellent when I had it. Nice selection of wines and v desserts, and a lovely bar/smoking area sending you all the way back to a 50s film set!
This is a really beautiful restaurant. We went at night and there were candles everywhere! We had a great meal on the rooftop deck. Their menu has 2 sections- Moroccan and international. We had the tomatoes with local goat cheese and Moroccan salads to start with and then had a squid tangia and seafood pastilla. All the dishes had great flavors. They offer French & Moroccan wine and cocktails. If you eat on the rooftop- you may be surrounded by smokers - but the tables are spaced far apart so for us it was not a big issue.
My boyfriend took me here for a surprise whilst in marrakech. Just a warning that its a bit of a hustle and bustle getting to the restaurant from the street. It was very packed when we went and sat upstairs on the balcony area. The menu options were ok but wish there were more options.I ordered a chicken thai curry which tasted mediocre. I ordered a pina colada which was perfect. The table service was excellent and the area was clean. Great atmosphere however very dark for photos and videos. My only wish is that lamb Tagine was served with dates and nuts. Personally I wouldnt go again but reccomend everyone to try.
Second time eating here.Booked for dinner on the roof. The service was just so poor, so slow, so disinterested, could not give it more than one star.It took us (4 people eating2.5 hours to get our main course.Unfortunately would not go back.
Truly exceptional service, food and ambiance at a reasonable price. Both the rooftop and the interior are beautiful and comfortable. Staff speaks English well and are very attentive and welcoming. They serve alcohol as well, with a pretty decent wine list. Make sure you book a table on the rooftop as it gets really busy. The best restaurant experience we had in Marrakech bar none.
We were a large group and our orders were taken quickly and we received them promptly. The food and drinks were tasty. I would highly recommend them. Someone even came to an area to meet us and walk us over, since it can be confusing moving around the area.
Slightly difficult to spot the entrance made worse by the chap on the door not being particularly helpful. Once inside this is a great restaurant, very attentive staff and the food was amazing. Slightly higher priced than other restaurants but worth it in my opinion. If you’re non smoker be prepared that people will light up indoors around you.
A hidden gem in the busy Medina. If you are looking for great local food and a fantastic sunset view, this is the place to go. Make sure you have make a booking. The rooftop is very popular. Food and service were impeccable.
Amazing food and service. I had the fish tagine which was fantastic. The restaurant is luxuriously decorated and the service was quick and attentive. Very much recommend eating here.
They have a wine menu and really quality interior and furniture (without simple loose tables☺️). Food good, but very typical. But totally expensive for Morocco. Service and personal good, but not for this money. The most affable was the man who opened the door at the entrance. This is sad for a restaurant of this level (considering that prices are 2.5-3 times higher than in ordinary restaurants).
Magnificent restaurant within the Medina of Marrakech, so there is no need for a taxi, as you can walk easily from any riad Locatel in the old town. Food is great, offering a combination of traditional marrocan food and international options. I have always tried the local options and the fish couscous is really good. The restaurant offers a wine and beer and has a lovely interior and a rooftop incredible for a dinner beneath the stars.
Superb service, ambiance, food and wine. Well trained staff serving thoughtfully prepared dishes. Great mix of local and international. Sublime experience in the back streets of the medina. Authentic dishes, although I agree with other reviewers that the chicken tagine can be quite dry. House wines by the glass were local and drinkable. Roof deck only open outside the Winter season, but a couple of patio-heaters could have solved that. Still deserves five stars as out-performs 95% of other options.
A marvellous restaurant that served delicious food. The staff were attentive, and the place is more formal than most other places we have seen around the medina. The food was excellently presented, and a very good mix of flavours, too. We would just not recommend the wine, as this was not worth the money.
Just a tourist rip off, for those who are really craving booze. My chicken tagine was dry and way not worth the money and music was too loud to talk. Unfortunately the good reviews were too appealing and we were too hingry when we realized what type of place it was. Cannot recommend, unless you need to drink a (goodfancy wine with no stress to look for a hotel that serves alcohol.
Very nice restaurant and food. The neighborhood doesn’t look safe, but they had a guy waiting for the taxi and bring us securely to the house.
Beatiful Upscale Resturant. Dinner and wine was an evening to remember. Great staff.
Traditional Moroccan dining in beautiful settings with attentive service.
No rooftop views though a nice setting. Food good. Hard to find location to walk to.
Amazing patio and cuisine. I really recommend their mix of moroccan salads to start out as well as their couscous
Truly excellent. Riad booked the roof terrace for us - which is a definite must. (Two other floors for eating and drinking, but the night sky and roof ambience was just perfect.Don’t expect views - this about the experience, service and food - all of which we found to be top notch.Interesting Morrocain food - some common, some less so. Fresh goats cheese was wonderful. Tomatoes dressed in argan oil a discovery.Licensed, so no cheap. That said - we thought excellent value. Did I say the food was excellent? It was - really well spaced, considered and cooked. Highly recommend
In the middle of a street there’s a door, with a man standing outside guarding it. You’re not sure you e reached you’re final destination and then you hesitantly ask him if this is correct. The door open, you say your booking name at the entrance and they guide you up stairs, 3 floors..... to this beautiful terrace. Fully equipped with the best food, drinks and service you could never even have imagined exists between these walls.Whatever you do, make sure you order the chocolate fondant as a dessert. Otherwise you haven’t had the full experience.
I was recommended this restaurant by a friend who lives in the area. It was a great ambiance and attentive staff. We had a mixed starter plate (our bread arrived after we had eaten half but it was tastyfollowed by the shared dish I didn’t recognise. It turned out to be a local speciality and utterly unexpected but quite wonderful. A sort of chicken and couscous pasty dusted in sugar with cinnamon. Wine was available by the glass and desert was lovely. I would recommend.
From the outside you would never expect to see the decor when you first walk inside - an oasis in the Medina! Good bar and amazing setting however the food did not quite live up to the same expectation. Menu was standard Moroccan fare and some of the dishes were excellent (chicken and almond pastillabut others just OK (tagine), still worth a visit if you are staying nearby
I loved it. Kind of place James Bond meets foe/lover. Rather typical Moroccan menu so dont count on being spoilt for choice, but what a place to eat and drink. Shall definitely go again. Slow service which I like and plenty of privacy in certain booths. Rooftop amazing and friendly staff. We had to be "invited" when we went.
Touristy but worth it. You need to get there walking because it is in a part of the Medina inaccessible by car. The service was relatively quick and attentive. Very good food (prawn salad with lemon and cumin, and a beef tajine with peas and artichoke). Beautiful building.
Lovely rooftop and very attentive staff. Food is fine but possibly not worth the premium. Everything feels a little dated and the clientele are largely ageing Europeans a bit like the parents of those who are eating at le jardin or nomad.
Amazing atmosphere and roof terrace for outdoor dining, truly beautiful place in hidden Marrakesh. Food very good too, recommended!
The atmosphere was sublime and the service great! Our server was amazing! The food was good!
The drinks here were fantastic - easily the best part of our meal. Service wasnt great, and the food didnt seem on par with the setting (not that it was bad, just that it wasnt as good as expected). The ambience on the roof was very nice, but views of Marrakesh were limited. The first two floors were empty, which we found curious as the first floor seems to include a lounge. Granted, we were there the Thursday evening before Eid, which may have factored into the lack of customers; however, as tourists are Le Foundouks bread and butter, maybe its simply a sign of the times with Nomads ascendancy.
Best dinner spot in Marrakesh! The roof terrace is gorgeous, very romantic with the low candle lights. I loved this place. Food (Moroccan, dont go for the international menu please!is lovely. Service could improve - it was VERY slow...
Finding the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a traditional Moroccan meal in a contemporary space that remains authentic to its location doesn’t have to be difficult. While in Marrakech, dining at Le Foundouk is necessary, as this restaurant incorporates modern décor and a brilliant atmosphere into a building rich with culture and history.I was really blown away by how well the owners of the restaurant mixed traditional Moroccan style with upscale dining. I opted for dinner on the first floor, which was lit by candles, and nestled in to a truly unique ambience of relaxation and sensory experiences.I couldn’t have asked for anything more as far as the service, and all my courses were promptly delivered to my table. I even asked about the building’s history, and was gladly told the story of the old garment factory and merchant’s inn that used to occupy the space.I ordered from the “International” menu, which pairs flavors from all over the word with traditional Moroccan recipes. I started with delicate beetroot pie, made from pan sired foie gras and arugula. So flavorful and with a hint of bitter tang from the greens, this was truly something different. For my main I opted for a tagine of Monkfish with preserved lemons, served with basmati rice. Light and citrusy, this dish was excellently seasoned and filling. The rise was delicate and tender, and the fish was some of the best I’ve had.I finished with dessert of the Chef’s Pastilla with chocolate and a prune, an excellent combination of sweet and tart. I can’t wait to enjoy another meal at Le Foundouk, and highly recommend it.
Absolutely loved this place. We were staying in a riad nearby and stumbled across Le Foundouk on one of our evening jaunts. The doorman in his traditional clothing, ushered us in to what seemed like a secret meeting house. A young woman then asked if wed like to sit inside or on the terrace and we chose the latter (weather was really nice!).We climbed up a few flights of stairs and the restaurant decor was beautiful. Every table was packed with diners, with mountains of food in front of them. The terrace is sparsely covered in tables and that meant we got some privacy to talk and enjoy the views. The waiter suggested the days specials and we chose the Fish bastilla and a special fillet of lamb. Both were cooked to perfection and were delicious. We ended up sitting there for a few hours and ordered a variety of desserts and local drinks. The waiting staff were very attentive, without being in our faces. They speak very good English and their menu suggestions were fantastic. Brilliant customer service.Le Foundouk is a must visit when in Marrakech and ideal for couples, friends and families. Enjoy!
Samira at Riad Romance recommended this. It has nice indoor & rooftop dining, with seating in traditional Moroccan or western style. The staff are familiar with what is vegetarian & vegan so that was nice. We had a risotto & soup. Views of the city from the rooftop are nice.
We ate a lot of great food on a recent 3-day trip to Morocco, but this place was by far the best. Great mix of French and Morocco cuisine, small but impressive wine selection and excellent dessert options to match. Highly recommended for a treat of a meal and dining experience.
