Began is an ancient city and UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar. From the 9th to 13 the centuries, the city was the capital of the Pagan Kingdom.
You can enjoy the beauty of the river in the pagoda squareThere is also a fish pond not far from the pagoda
You can see sunset view, the best view at Bagan.

Local tourism there. If you have spare time, you can have a walk around
Beautiful Pagoda by the riverside crowded all day
The location of this pagoda sets it apart from many others in Bagan. Situated on top of a hill overlooking the Ayeyarwaddy River, the courtyard and one of the stairways leading to it have great open views of the river below. The stupa has been recently re-gilded. When I visited, it sat glistening in the early morning sun. Vastly popular with the Burmese, more than with the tourists, a visit will allow you to glimpse at the religious customs of the local population.
nice sunset few people here nearby
Great scene and beautiful landscape over the high cliff of ayerwaddy river bank.Old pyu style stupa pagoda built in 11 century with less architecturural value.
A historical pagoda on the riverside and the scenery is very beautiful. You should go at sunset time for better scenery. The Ayeyarwaddy river can be seen for a quite long distance together with large and wide green fields. Highly recommended and it well worths a visit.
If you want to take photes with great background, I recommend this place. You can see a broad river and there are cheap souvenirs.
During the day its hot so cant do much walking outside or around the pagod as no sandals allowed, go straight to the Buddha image small room in the office area and bow and MEDITATE for a bit, its more worth it, if you need a toilet funnily enough down to the side they have a nice shaded area with a big banyan tree.
This pagoda is the great place in new Bagan region. You can see Ayeyawaddy River amazing sunset veiw on this pagoda. You can buy some souvenir to your lovely because some souvenir shop are open around pagoda and you can also try street foods.
Interesting place. Only locals come here.Nice view at river also
History said that Buddha remained tooth in the chedi, but reshining the building like the new one.I am so sorry for want to see the naturally old one of the original. But location is beauty along side of the river and pleased.
We had many good memories at there. Thanks you!
Beautiful sunset point, great pagoda. Wanna taste real Burmese food? Taste it downstairs.
Lawkananda pagoda was built by King Anawrahta during his reign in 1059. The pagoda has enshrined the Buddhas tooth relic in Bagan. The pagoda is erected on the bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River. During those days, with the power of Bagan Dynasty, the Mon region, Rakhine and even as far as Sri Lanka would anchor by the Ayeyarwaddy riverside. Lawkananda would be the first to see with its distinctive elongated cylindrical dome. It is still used as an everyday place of worship and is thought to house an important Buddha-tooth replica. The riverside and sunset views from Lawkananda are very good.
Well worth the hike from old to new Bagan. A big, imposing Pagoda on the river bank. It is a bit crowded with local sellers, but nothing out of the ordinary. The stones get extremely hot in your feet. Stay on the white marble.
Located in new bagan, little bit far from the others, buat recommended place to visit
Was under renovation when I visited (few times between January and May). Its a lovely location with a humbling presence when walking around. The view of the pagoda up the river is magical during the evening just after sunset.
Very busy and now overly commercial Stupa. The crowds push and shove to get that perfect picture next to the river and dont take much consideration for tourists there looking at the history and culture.Parts of the area are under serious renovation and seriously underwhelming because of how poor the building work is being presented. Unfortunate for such a beautiful Pagoda that I visited ten years ago!I can imagine it was beautiful a few years ago but now there are shops and stalls that overcrowd the entrance, there purely for the Chinese tourists who are looking for their next Instagram picture!
A golden Pagoda which was built from 11Century , enshrined Buddha replica tooth relic inside and local pilgrim believe this one as one of the auspicious temple in Bagan. You can get nice river side sunset view from this place.
One of few good spots to explore sunrise and sunset. It is less crowded compared to other similar locations and in addition, it offers the scenery of the river with mountains which is impossible to be seen from other places. However, you may not be able to see a lot of pagodas while watching sunrise or sunset since this one is located on the bank of the river.
Lawkananda Pagoda was built by King Anawrahta in AD 11th Century. Pagoda situated on the bank of Ayeyarwady river.
One of the most famous pagoda in Bagan .Located near Ayearwaddy river
This Pagoda is missed by a lot of tourists but good to visit. There are plenty of shops etc around as well. You can change into smaller bills for offerings and contributions.
One of the nicest pagodas in Bagan. Its a working pagoda. Many people are praying. Nice location by the river. Go early or late in the day for nice light.
Great place to see the sunset. Its a popular spot with local people so its nice to share the view with them. Lots of food and drink stalls around by the river. A good alternative to the more expensive riverside restaurants.
The Lawkananda Paya is a beautiful golden pagoda on top of a small hill on the banks of the Irrawaddy river. Its name translates to “Joy of the world” in ancient Pali language. The pagoda, also known as the Loka Nanda pagoda was built in 1059 by King Anawrahta, founder of the Bagan empire. It enshrines a replica of a tooth relic of the Gautama Buddha, that the King obtained from Sri Lanka. The pagoda, located a few kilometers South of old Bagan marked the Southern boundary of Bagan’s capital. The cylindrical pagoda somewhat resembles the much older Bupaya pagoda, located further North in old Bagan, which is more bell shaped. From the Loka Nanda’s platform visitors have good views of the Irrawaddy river and the mountain range in the background. At night the pagoda is lit up. Although an attractive place with the river breeze and serene atmosphere, the Lawkananda is a little visited Paya, mainly used by Burmese people as a place of worship. In the middle of the rainy season late July, Early August depending on the lunar calender the Lawkananda pagoda festival is held to celebrate the rain in the very dry Bagan region. The Acacia Leucophloea tree from platform was gone now.Whatsoever Bagan the first nation of Myanmar makes me always delightful.
Very nice place to view the Aeyawady River from the elevated level of the pagoda
Good River view and has a breezy beach.
Beautiful structure pagoda located close Irrawaddy river. Especially, Sunset view is most beautiful from this location. Also get river view and will see beauty Irrawaddy river side.
My preferred pagoda to enjoy a sunset with the locals over the famous Bu-paya further North.
The ancient pagoda built by King Anawrhatta

This one of the Swal Taw Lay Su that when you go and pray there within one day , the wish you make with come true. U can see That Kyi Taung Pagoda from here . You can see there has selling Myitzutaka dry flower which is sweet in taste and u should try this. Please aware that firstly ask the price of food or item before u want to buy to avoid cheaters who ask u to give high price after u purchasing or eating it.
A stupa on a small hill looking over the majestic Irrawaddy river. At its feet is a small bustling collection of food stalls selling tea, pea rice topped with a luscious fried egg, steaming milk, grilled shrimp, corn on cob, and fried baby shrimp fritters. A great stop for breakfast and prayers while temple running around Old Bagan.
The stupa is currently covered in scaffolding so not at its best. In a great location on the banks of the Irrawaddy. Theres a large fish pond across the road from the temple which has a viewing platform extending into the middle. Worth a look. An opportunity to feed the fish.
It has a good river n sunset view. In there, every tourist can have things n foods easily n in cheap. Lawka Nanda pagoda is a famous pagoda. Kids can be taken there bcoz its a safe place for them
If in New Bagan a visit to the Lawka Nada temple is a must. It stands in a commanding position over looking the Ayeyarwaddy river.
Beautiful view of sunset across Ayerwaddy river & the distant hills.
