Lava Apartments in Akureyri

Stayed in July 2022. More of a hostel type of accommodation. Modern, but not very clean. Sheets were clean, but there were other issues. I probably wouldn’t stay here again.Location: Great location, just off the main road, but the free parking lot is not adjacent to the building. The parking is very closeby (1 minute walk), but it was very difficult to find because it’s just a lot beside another neighbouring building. We were able to walk to lots of restaurants, the port (to catch a whale watching tour), and the rest of downtown Akureyri.Amenities: The washroom had shower gel and hand soap. There were towels, but only two bath towels. The bathroom seemed to have mold in the shower and the hairdryer was melted. The kitchen had a microwave, fridge, some instant coffee, a paper towel holder (but no paper towel), sink, etc. There was a bar-height table with regular-height chairs, so that wasn’t really usable lol.Overall, the property needs some upkeep. The flower pots only have soil and weeds and have become ashtrays. The check-in process was easy for us, but many others seemed to be confused (our room was right by the entrance, so we could hear everyone’s struggles).

This is a middle of the road place to stay. It was self check in with an email including the door code sent two days before. There was no one at the front desk but there was a number to call in case you lost your code. The apartment was pretty spacious with a small kitchen and living room area. The bedroom wasnt large but spacious enough. The problem is that there was a window on the ceiling which could not be fully covered up by the blind provided. A good amount of light crept through so if you like sleeping in complete darkness, you wont get that if you stay in apartment 107. The shower was tiny and drained slowly and the towels were rough as sandpaper. I also had to shower with hand soap as no shampoo or body soap was provided. What bumps this up quite a bit is he location. Its really close to Akureyri church and there are plenty of restaurants and shops in walking distance. At the same time, its not so central that its loud at night. I personally wouldnt stay here again, but if you dont mind the shortfalls it could be worth it given the location and price.

La posizione è fantastica e la struttura è accogliente, ben arredata e pulita. Il letto, poi, è fra i più comodi che abbia mai sperimentato! Ci tengo tuttavia a dire che meglio di ogni altra cosa è stato lo staff. Per quanto la struttura non sia normalmente presidiata e usi il self check-in, una persona dello staff mi ha comunque aiutato a risolvere un grosso problema con una cortesia e una disponibilità ben al di sopra delle aspettative. Quando si è in viaggio, incontrare persone così salva la situazione… grazie davvero, consiglio assolutamente.

Appartamento era un sottotetto piccolo non ho ricevuto la mail per leIndicazione del dropkey e ho dovuto fare più chiamate per farmi aprire .Il letto era comodo e il bagno piccoloMa molto funzionale .Parcheggio a pagamento di fronte LAlbergo non mensiinato nella prenotazione (fortunatamente io ho alloggiato durante fine settimana )

Worst place I have been for my stay in Iceland. First of all, there is no reception, and only selfservice. I didnt have the code to punch my way in on the outside codelocker. I had to go in and call the proprietors.The room was ok, but it was very warm. I could hardly open a window. No extra table to put a laptop on.With a selfservice place, you would expect information about places to eat dinner or breakfast close by. There was nothing. I was lucky to go around the place and find a Chinese restaurant. Next morning, I had to study Google Maps to find a supermarket to get breakfast.The two positive things: good bed and sanitation, good wifi.

Like other reviewers, did not receive an email with any information. Just call them with your booking number and they will give it to you. Other than that, fine apartment. No toaster that was advertised though…

No cooking stoves, microwave and kettle only. Have dinnerware and utensils

Easy booking, clean rooms and inexpencive.

Supposedly self check in with an email two days before arrival. No email, including in spam and searching through the whole inbox, no one here to help. Tried to call using WhatsApp and a local phone and neither went through. While waiting in the lobby you can tell how thin the walls are as you can hear people blowing their nose or taking a shower.Hotel is centrally located in the back of a parking lot.Would recommend looking elsewhere for a spot to stay.

The apartments are off a car park around the back of some shops. We were at ground level and right next to the entrance.We arrived to a sign saying stating that its 24/7 self check in and we should have received an email 2 days before with instructions and entry codes. We had not (checked junk mail box). We were able to call an out of hours number and did receive quick assistance. Had we not had a roaming mobile phone, wed have been really stuck.We saw other guests arriving and suffering the same issue.

Worst experience. I was booking this place for our stay and within 30 seconds after booking, I realized the dates were incorrect. I had clicked dates in June when we werent going to be in Iceland until August. We contacted the hotel immediately and they told us to send an email in order to get this resolved. They did not respond for a few days and then when they did respond they said we could switch the dates, but we would have to pay $215 more, as the room was different than what we had already booked, but we could not cancel and they would not give us a refund of our money. Really?? 30 seconds after booking I realized there was a mistake and they would not do anything about it! Very disappointed with their horrible customer service. Would not recommend.

Clean and sufficient but you could hear the other guests and the doors closed very loudly. You also couldnt darken the room that much

Wir hatten das Appartement 106. Es war sehr geräumig und gut ausgestattet. Ein Toaster hat uns gefehlt. Man kann Netflix gucken. Restaurants sind in der Nähe, man kann hinlaufen. Kostenlose Parkplätze sind hinter dem Haus.

Appartamento spazioso al piano terra con zona soggiorno/cucina con forno a microonde e bollitore, camera ampia e luminosa, spazioso il bagno. La camera aveva anche un piccolo spazio esterno che in un’altra stagione avremmo senz’altro utilizzato. Gli interni sono moderni curati e pulitissimi, belli e moderni gli spazi comuni. Proprietari gentilissimi e disponibili, abbiamo potuto anticipare il check in. La posizione è ottima, a ridosso del centro e con parcheggio privato gratuito sul retro della struttura.

Camera piccola ma accogliente, aveva una grossa finestra sopra il letto. Era presente un bollitore e caffè per la colazione. Letto molto comodo. Il parcheggio è sul teatro rispetto alla reception, infatti i parcheggi davanti sono a pagamento.

Cheap accommodation and great comfort!

Nice and clean

It’s a good place as it’s close to the downtown area. All great places to eat are only 5 to 10 minutes walk. My understanding was that there is a kitchen area with pots and pan. There was not even a toaster. We had booked this place with that understanding. However all eating places were so close by hence it didn’t become an issue. Parking was available close to the apartment.

The room is clean, but very tiny. I kept hitting my head on the ceiling above my bed, and I am not tall. They have electronic checkin, which in theory should work well. You’re supposed to get info two days before checkin but since I wasn’t aware of their procedure, I didn’t watch for the email. Checking later, I did a complete search and there was no email from Lava. So, we arrived and had no way to even enter the building. There is no manager or clerk on-site. Fortunately, a very kind resident saw us and put us in touch with the right person.

Communication was pretty bad, got mixed messages from talking directly with them on the phone as to via email. Not happy and decided to cancel the booking.

Modern apartment with fridge, wifi and parking spot. Not particularly spacious, but cozy and clean. Staff was super friendly and helped us find a good route to our next location - even called us to make sure we arrived safely!

Very close to the city center, big rooms and perfectly cleaned. Theres also a big parking lot in front of the apartments.

Very clean, modern and spacious 1 bedroom apartment. Its very centrally located and within a few blocks of at least 10 restaurants and some shops. Theres also free parking behind the building which is another big plus. Would highly recommend Lava Apartments to anyone looking to make a short stay in Akureyri.

Its an awesome place to stay. Really neat concept of key pad access. No need for staff at check in creates a great money saving opportunity. Really clean, cozy, and affordable!

Nice overnight spot. Our appartment sleeps 4 comfortably. However 2 star reduction for suggesting (via the word appartment!That it has a useable kitchen. It has a sink and a fridge , but other than a tiny microwave (and kettle and toasterno way to prepare food. Im not looking for anything fancy, but 2 stove rings and a couple of pots are really a minimum...

A very quiet appartmhotel. Clean, comfortable, modern. TV with Netflix connection. Wide enough bathroom. The reception is open part of the day, but you can do self check in with code. The small rooms kitchen is well prepared. There is a limited free park zone out of the hotel. It is located close to the commercial zone in Akureyri.

Good access and clean

Very nice rooms, excellent for the price. TV, kettle, minifridge, towels, toilet paper, cups and bowl. Very comfy bed and free parking is a plus! Highly recommend.

Room and bathroom were clean. The size of the room was a bit small but enought for a night. Very confortable.

Easy self check in and out with code. Quiet and cozy room with all necessary. Good situation. Free parking near apartments after 16:00. You can use a timer to park free for 1 hour between 10 and 16:00.

Great place, great place and new rooms. Loved it

Really beautiful hotel although it is not very personal - we didnt meet one staff member the one night we stayed. The bedroom was comfortable and shower was good, only shampoo available. We had kitchen supplies such as a toaster, cuttingboard and a microwave. It was nice to have a code to access the main building and the rooms instead of a keycard. All in all the stay was very nice but we had booked a room for four persons and saw in the pictures that a bigger room had a wall to sepperate the two beds (one bed and sofa to change into a bedbut the room had them side by side.. i feel like there should be pictures or better descriptions of the rooms available.

Centrally located, very clean and has a fridge in the room. No cooking facilities but there are plenty of fantastic restaurants within walking distance. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Despite being in the town centre, it is very quiet so it is suitable for families with young children or older couples. Private parking provided outside according to the website. I couldnt find the carpark but parked in a public carpark just in front of the building and had no issues

Comfortable and with everything you need for a good night sleep. Fast wifi and cable tv. Good shower and good bed. Could have better blackout courtains for the summer.

Nice hotel, easy to self checkin anytime, located in the centre of the town. Few minutes from hotel you can find Berlin - nice cafe.

Absolutely loved our room(s). We originally had booked our stay for just one night, but enjoyed it so much, we upgraded and moved into a larger suite for one more night. Extremely clean and tidy. Beautiful, simple design. Very welcoming, kind hospitality. If there isnt someone at the desk, just call the number on your confirmation email. The front door is programmed to a key code, along with your room. Very safe, and convenient. Two minute drive to Bonus, a local grocery store. Seconds away from common circle with wonderful restaurants for various price ranges. Private parking lot located out back. If we visit Iceland again, well definitely be back to this location!

Lovely Apartment sized hotel rooms, very clean and has a barebones kitchen included. Located right off the Highway 1, so it was easy to find. Nice and quiet. It also has conventional heated water, not the geothermal water like Reykjavik does, so no sulfur smell when showering. Good spot to head to Gullfoss to the west, only 45 mins away by car, and good for hunting for Auroras
