1A Launceston Pl, Kensington, London W8 5RL, Grafton
Fine dining restaurant in an 1839 townhouse, with a notable wine list and Modern British menu.
Incredible and beyond superb. You think you have had a 5 star experience until you dine here and then you are introduced to a new definition of what exquisite dining entails.
Had a fantastic lunch experience here. Top notch service, food and atmosphere. The checker game menu was a lovely touch!
Seriously the best restaurant in all of London. My partner took me here for my birthday this july and I still can’t stop thinking about how incredible our experience was. The servers were amazing, the food was unbelievable and I am honoured to have spent my birthday there! I wouldn’t be surprised if this place had a Michelin star next to its name in the near future!
Great experience. Enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. We tried a la carte menu and all the dishes were decent.
Lunch here today was one of the best meals I have ever had. We went for the 3 course lunch menu and every plate had such interesting flavours and such thoughtful presentation. Do not even hesitate: this will be an awesome experience, made even more special by the wonderful staff. I am just disappointed that I did not get the name of the Italian waiter who made some wonderful suggestions for wine pairings! When I return to London I will be back!
I am editing my review below as Ian and Mattia fully resolved the situation! My Mum had a great lunch in the end. The food was fantastic and service exemplary. Will be back!I bought my Mum a lunch tasting menu voucher at Launceston Place for her birthday. Turned out the voucher expired after 9 months. We had thought it was 12 months. Unbelievably we discovered this on the 21st August, the exact day the voucher expired. Called up the restaurant immediately to see if there was anything they could and were abruptly told to email the manager Mattia. A week later Mattia replied saying they cannot accept a voucher after expiry. Seems harsh and not exactly customer friendly.
Wonderful location near Kensington Gardens and the Albert Hall, has almost a village feel as the restaurant looks out onto pretty town houses. We had the three course lunch priced at £39 per head. Cocktails were £16 each.Your order is done with a draughts board, pieces covering the items you dont want leaving those you do on show.My main was the quail with bbq leaves, faultless and very flavoursome.Very attentive staff, friendly and knowledgeable. A perfect lunch before the concert at the Albert Hall which is about a 10 minute walk away. We had the last sitting at 2.30pm but were never rushed and allowed to take our time which was much appreciated.Highly recommended.
This is truly an amazing restaurant, the food is absolutely gorgeous, thats the best I can offer because most of what we ate was indescribably amazing. The staff maintain friendly, helpful and high standards. The atmosphere is relaxed and smart. Definitely a positive experience.(sorry it took so long to leave a review). Cant wait to visit again.
What a wonderful experience👌👌👌 My second time in this beautiful restaurant with an indescribable peaceful atmosphere. I book a table for tow for lunch time. At the entrance, the General manager Ian Toogood very kindly welcome us and showed our table, which was followed by a glass of Prosecco and the menu which was presented as a game “ a game which chef Ben Murphy loved to play with his grandmother”, I have to say that it’s a brilliant idea, was very enjoyable choosing our menu through a game. We chose a three corse meal which was fenomenale. The food was like eating a peace of art very detailed in all aspects and very well flavour balanced, to deliver this art I think it’s should be a very good and passionate team behind the curtains. The service was wonderful , an Italian gentleman from Puglia was taking care of us during all our meal and he was very kind as he notice that between me and the other person was lots of romances so he spontaneously offered us an “happy anniversary” plate which was very but very welcoming 👌👌👌 and how to forget his unique skills of taking pictures of us.I have to say that we really enjoyed the time at this unique restaurant which I will definitely return.🤩🤩🤩
Had an excellent lunch time meal here today, the whole experience was to put it simply perfect. The food was incredible from the very first taste to the last was absolutely amazing and the service staff so friendly and helpful,a truely wonderful group of people.
We visited this restaurant for a special anniversary and it didnt disappoint. We sampled a wonderful tasting menu that was amazing. Excellent quality and beautifully presented with tremendous expertise in some of the dishes we ate. Great credit to the chefs. We also had a very nice young man and young lady who were very pleasant and cheerful who waited at our table.
Second visit in two months for lunch. Superb tasting menu, excellent value, nice wine list, friendly staff. Always a pleasure to visit
Definitely one of my fav restaurants in the world - I make a point to go whenever I’m in London! Every little snack between courses is fascinating and tasty. The honey-fig/leaf dessert is absolutely revelatory and tops any dessert I’ve ever tasted — and I’ve tasted a lot! Highly recommend!
This was one of the best dining experiences my wife and I have - period. The food was exceptional and the staff were equal to the quality and taste of the food. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting and even the menu has a fun little twist the adds to the wonderful experience. If you are looking for an exceptional culinary experience with service to match, I highly recommend your dine here.
Absolutely brilliant meal here and the service was exceptional. Wine parings were top notch and the mise en place too good. Enjoyed every minute and morsel of food and wine. Highly reccommend!
Stunning restaurant, food and service. Ben is a superstar and all of his team were so knowledgeable and friendly. Delicious wine by the glass, which is unusual and super recommendations from the sommelier. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant without being stuffy.
Its been a few days since my meal here and I am still talking about it.The restaurant itself is set in a quiet, residential street. The simple but elegant frontage, doesnt give you any idea of how spacious and airy it is once inside. We were greeted warmly and seated by Mattia. The menu, was innovative and interactive. We chose the tasting menu. We actually wanted everything on the ALC, but this was easiest. We had an amuse of beef tartar taco, and a smoked haddock filled tuile. Delicious way to start.Every plate that came was delightful, tasty, surprising and appreciated.I have to give praise to the celeriac and mint dish, with pecorino. Loved it.I dont want to give away everything, but it was worth the expense.Great service, great ambience. Please go!
Always been hesitant to go here as the menu on the site isn’t that vegetarian friendly. But I called up to enquire, after someone made a booking here for us, and they told me they would be able to adapt the menu for me. Perhaps it’s worth mentioning this on the site, since many vegetarians may not go here for the same reasons I never did before. Food adapted and was a nice setting
My favourite London restaurant lived up to its usual high standard. Excellent service. Food was stunning as were the paired wines. Still my No 1 restaurant
We had a wonderful evening celebrating our Anniversary. We had the Taster menu with the Wine Pairing. This was very worthwhile as the Wines brought out the best in all the accompanying dishes. Would definitely recommend and visit again.
Overall a Fabulous Experience. Very Special. Beautifully prepared and presented. Delicate and delicious combinations of textures and flavours. Friendly charming enthusiastic and helpful staff. Does get a little noisy. Acoustics?
surprisingly delicious! very good service!
A place that can be a Michelin 1-star at least. Had the 7-courses tasting menu for only £95, which is kind of a bargain for Londons standard. Every staff was genuinely friendly and knowledgeable on the dishes. Wine paring option is not something I normally choose, but I am glad I did. What a present surprise!
A perfect combination between service and food. The experience is undoubtedly excellent. Matia and Marcelo provide an outstanding service explaining the dishes and helping with the wine. On the food side the chef’s menu gives you everything you would imagine in terms of execution, presentation and flavor. If I have to point one minor negative point is the dessert, that for me lacks the rest of the menu, but all the rest was really good
I want to thank the entire staff after our recent visit to Launceston Place.I have visited this restaurant a few times now, and have never been disappointed. The serving staff are friendly, professional and knowledgeable. As for the tasting menu restaurant at Launceston Place, the menu changes seasonally.Launceston team know-how to make their customers happy and satisfied and they take you on a fascinating journey through flavours.I cannot forget to also thank the amazing brigade that cooked our food, which was created by Chef Ben and was sublime. How Ben creates the tasting menu we ate, is astonishing. I would like to thank the entire crew for making our night again, and we cannot wait to return in the Autumn. If you should have a desire to enjoy and unique experience Launceston Place is an ideal place!
Last night we had a really pleasant experience for beginning to the end. Not just only with the food but with also the service.
The atmosphere is great and the layout makes it feel cosy. The service is exceptional, very friendly and attentive without being too fussy. My partner and I had the tasting menu, one meat and one vegetarian. And the vegetarian menu was just as well thought through as the meat. The standout courses were the consommé - it was a roast dinner in a bowl! The bread and butter, celeriac, egg and soldiers and desserts were all exceptional. The leek was quite acidic but other than that it was all great. Good choice of wines and cocktails too.Would definitely like to go back and would recommend to others.
One of the best experiences I have ever had!Food amazing, Atmosphere terrific, Service PERFECT!I went here to celebrate my husband’s birthday and the team made our day. Thank you so much for your kindness again. If you are hesitant then don’t! I highly recommend the restaurant to everyone!!
Launceston Place offers fantastic haute cuisine. Every part of the experience is perfectly thought out, from the waiting staff who attend to your every need, the crisp white dining linen, the odd-yet-satisfyingly unique chequer board menu, and some of the weirdest, elegant and nicest food Ive had in a long time. This isnt dining...its a wonderful journey.
Such amazing experience! The food was certainly above standards for the price, personally they’re even better than some of the Michelin one star restaurants I’ve been, every dish was a surprise to me! The veal cheek was so tender and flavourful, the foie gras foam adds an extra subtle layer to the rabbit dish, and the yuzu mousse made in a cute lemon shape was so delicious yet not too sweet, will certainly come back soon can’t wait to try out the other dishes!
Beautiful dining room, great food, very reasonably priced 3 course lunch, great service. But dont come if you want a big meal. It just isnt. Come if you want a lovely dining experience and perhaps have more room for alcohol instead!
Great place to lunch & dine. Sophisticated dishes and presentation. Excellent service.Calm and quiet, perfect to meet with a friend if you want to catch up and have a conversation (no noise and loud music).
The food was absolutely divine. Even though my partner and I went for three courses each, the chef was kind enough to give us complimentary dishes (including my partners small birthday treated picturedwhich all tasted exquisite. The cocktails were full of flavour. The environment is relaxing yet classy and the waiters are so welcoming and polite. Truly a hidden gem of London.
Delicate and delicious. Tasting menu was superb. Wines also. Truly a wonderful experience.
We instantly fell in love with Launceston Place, from the fun menu design to the beautiful setting, brilliantly put together dishes and outstanding service. The attentiveness of the whole team made the experience truly memorable!
We enjoyed the whole dining experience at Launceston Place. We found the modern decor beautiful and welcoming. The delicious food was carefully prepared by the extremely talented Chef Patron Ben Murphy and his team. The food presentation showed high professionalism and attention to detail. The table service was also impeccable. The staff was extremely helpful, informative and keen to go the extra mile in order to accommodate our requests. We highly recommend this wonderful establishment and we will certainly visit it again.Thank you so much for such a memorable experience.
Amazing! I was wondering how can a restaurant get this rate with so many reviews and now I know.It was innovative and impressive how dishes present and even for menu! Will definitely visit again when new menu launches!
Sensational tasting menu from start to finish with the John Dorey and Presa pork mains the highlights. Also the best wine pairing we have had yet, lovely mix from around the world perfectly matched to the beautiful food. Nice quiet & relaxed setting too. One of the best restaurants we have been to, well definitely return and highly recommend.
Had the most fantastic meal and experience here. As well as amazing food, the staff and ambience was perfect. Had a very memorable evening here which I won’t forget in a very long time.
Absolutely fantastic! Interesting and delicious food. Lovely atmosphere and fantastic service 5/5!!! Will be coming back. Thank you!
Well presented, tasty, high quality menu along with great service and even a bit of humour in an understated yet charming location. Couldnt really ask for more, we wished the food would never stop coming!
Great meal, definitely one of the best of what London has to offer.Service on point, creative food and high quality execution!Chef Ben Murphy and his team are doing an excellent work and I hope the get a good reward for it soon.Highly recommended!
We booked here for 1:30pm. We had a baby with us, they were ready and knew my name. Very importantly gave us a seat appropriate for a pram. They were all polite, attentive and super nice. They look like they loved their jobs. The food was amazing, one of the best I have tasted. Such an amazing experience. Really loved it and will come back.
Outstanding! Attention to detail, excellent food and FUN. Staff super hospitable. We had New Years Eve dinner and enjoyed every moment. Add to your list if your a foodie. Each dish was a wonderful surprise.
Updated review based on 3 course meal on 11th Jan:Revisted Launceston Place. As before, every staff encountered were super hospitable, friendly and knowledgeable. They were very attentive but not overbearing. The non alcoholic Seedlip Grove 42 cocktail drink based on Roja Parfumes certainly did hit the spot. The amuse bouche highlighted the main star, the humble beetroot. The celeriac starter was dainty but very tasty. The vegetarian main meal was the humbly titled "mushroom". It consisted of shimeji mushrooms over large mushroom halves with foam on top and yeast around the plate. To my suprise this was very filling and it was truly appreciated the skill complexities gone into making this dish. The dessert included "Kelloggs" which had white chocolate, almond and cranberry sauce. It was divine! The other dessert was a Snickers based dessert but my favourite was th pear infused mousse with a white chocolate outer shell in the shape of, and sprayed with colour to make it look like a, pear.To finish of this amazing dining experience I ended up a flat white, and some petite fours. The coffee is probably one of the best I have had.I was totally stuffed by the end of the lunch to the point I did not even had dinner. The Saturday lunch menu at £35 is most worth it and for sure I will be back without any hesitation. An easy 5 out of 5 from me. You will not be disappointed.-----------Original review based on tasting menu on 21st Nov: Came here to try out the vegetarian tasting menu. Gave it 4 out of 5.All staff encountered were very friendly and knowledgeable. The ambience was on point.Every dish had the wow factor, each dish was a work of art- they looked so good I actually felt guilty to even touch it. The taste of every dish was excellent too. The non alcoholic drink good but not worth the steep price considering it had no alcohol. The tasting experience lasted 3 hours. The only criticism was that each dish were dainty and therefore I left the restaurant feeling hungry. A let down considering the experience cost over £100 with drinks and service charge.Would I be back? Sadly not due to leaving the restaurant feeling hungry.
Launceston Place is a beautiful modern British restaurant located in 19th century townhouse based in well-to-do Kensington. The low-lit setting, elegant interior design, parquet floors and linen tabletops create a romantic ambience, which makes this restaurant perfect for date nights. You can expect all the trimmings of traditional manners and hospitality i.e. its first-class. It is a small venue but thats no bad thing, it just takes the intimate vibes up a notch. The wine list is impressive with fine red and white from all around the world so, if you like wine, youll like this. Even on a Thursday evening, it didnt get too busy. Youre likely to find a table here, but still, RSVP just to be sure.I can only comment on drinks since that was the purpose of my visit, and I can confirm that they were excellent. Beautifully balanced and properly presented. Expect the classics as well as a few original creations. You cant fault Launceston Place here. Obviously, it wont come cheap at all, but if luxury and first-class British dining experience is what youre after, this is the place.
We absolutely loved the tasting experience. Wine pairing was also so worth it. It made it extra special. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was nice and relaxing. Each dish was wow. Stone bass, pork and beef dishes blew our minds. One of the best tasting experiences in London. Highly recommend!
Fabulous lunch! Food was innovative and tasty while not too complicated. Use of ingredients and flavours were divine, really impressed with the presentation of everything too. From the get go this place delivered nothing but perfection, even the selection of cheeses were delectable. Would highly recommend for a Lunch, look forward to coming back and trying the tasting menu for dinner. Review to be updated after!
I come back here each and every time I’m in London. Started to visit this place in 2011 and have been back 5 times since then.I’m never disappointed and have always been pleasantly surprised how this place ups in game each and every time I come back to visit.Kudos to everyone! I truly recommend this place. One Michelin star is not enough to do justice to this place but I’m afraid prices will increase with another star 🤣
There is only one word to describe this place: Heaven! The detail, the flavours, the experience, the service is just excellent. This is so far my best restaurant in London. Credit to the chefs, and all the employees at the front of house and serving at the tables. Every single person had high knowledge and understanding of the products, the ingredients and customer service was 10 out 10. Excellent place for a romantic night, social with friends or to impress your wife. It was just excellent. #TopRestaurant
