Filipino dishes are prepared with a Californian twist in a simple, modern space with a casual vibe.
So impressed with Lasita! Really great staff and service, very impressive meal. Highly recommend. The chicken and other meats are brined to being out more flavor, the plant based dishes all also have distinct flavors. The pancit noodle dish is fantastic!
Ahhh!! So amazing. Thank you Chase and Stephanie for letting me know about this place, and I always love to support wonderful people!! The food and ambiance here was amazing. The quality was superb, and the service was wonderful. Everyone in there made me feel comfortable, and I absolutely enjoyed every thing and will definitely come back! :)
The modern take on Filipino food is so refreshing! My favorite is the beef tartare with the sky flakes. Also the watermelon salad was so refreshing and another favorite! I definitely recommend eating with a bigger group for more sharing. I also appreciate the recommendations made by the servers. They gave us the best experience with all the good food and wine combos!
The food was wonderful the workers where amazing a little high priced but one thing I noticed and thought it was in poor taste was the waiters and busboy a tier the bus boy server look dirty like a homeless man the waiter manager had nose piercing and where wearing jeans I believe a restaurant of such high class food there employees would dress more professional and clean cut I hope management reads this and will make appreciate changes to make lasita a professional classy place to dine sorry for criticizing but lasita deserves better
Way overpriced!and its noy any better than other Pinoy food places whic are 3x cheaper.
The staff were very friendly and food was great. My favorite was the chicken inasal and pancit kang kong. Both very savory and flavorful. Also, there is outdoor and indoor seating. Parking is metered street parking or garage parking. Try to find metered parking before parking in the garage. Metered street parking is not impossible to find, and only $1 for 60 mins or free after 8pm (double check the signs too). Garage parking is $10.If you bring outside food to eat at the table (birthday cake for example), there is an extra charge of $15.
A great little hidden gem in Chinatown! Some excellent Filipino dishes, a great wine list and the service was great. Highly recommend checking this place out!
This place is soo good! It was my first time trying it and it was so delicious. Get here early though because they don’t take reservations and the wait was about 45 min! It was totally worth it. The service is amazing and the food was even more amazing. We got the half chicken, garlic fried rice, and broccolini per the servers suggestion and omg it was soo good. The sauces were also really tasty. And the ambiance amazing too, not really around other stuff! Will be back soon
Definitely a five-star experience with the food, service and ambiance. We were a larger party so ordered the “"Pamilya Style" Set Menu” which serves 8-10 people. It’s a smaller restaurant and they don’t take reservations so get there early but even if there’s a line, be patient and wait and you won’t regret it.First of all, if you’ve eaten Filipino food before this is Filipino food on another level. And if you haven’t had Filipino food this is your chance to start and get off to a great start at that. You can definitely tell the chefs are very thoughtful in elevating these typical Filipino dishes such as rotisserie chicken, pork belly lechon and pancit. Each bite was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The sauces just add another layer of flavor but honestly even without the sauces you’ll be enjoying each bite.If you are debating on what to order and can’t decide, order several dishes and take the rest home. Although I loved each dish, I would recommend the pork belly lechon, kang kong pancit, chicken inasal and the sizzling pork belly sisig. I know that’s a lot of food especially if you are small party but you’ll thank me later. You may not have room for dessert after all this exceptional food but the Wanderlust Ice cream is a great way to end your meal. The restaurant is located in a small shopping center in Chinatown but don’t let the location fool you, it’s exceptional food and you’ll be planning your next visit as you are still sitting at your table enjoying your meal
The fool is over price. The chicken was salty. The potato salad was awful. The pancit was not your typical pancit. The noodles were too thick for me and there was no meat in the pancit. My whole experience was not good and the bill was over $100 for Philipino food. Dont waste your money here!
My boyfriend and I came to Lasita about 2 weeks ago on a Friday evening with 4 friends. We ordered sizzlin’ pork belly sisig , pancit Kang Kong (noodles with spinach, mushrooms & garlic-calamansi sauce), chicken Inasal (whole)& pork belly lechon (full lb). 😋😋😋I love coming to Lasita for pork belly. Each bite is balanced with tender and juicy meat from the inside and crispy skin. The pancit (noodlesdish was also good and refreshing with the veggies and lemon. It was my first time trying the sisig. Each bite is quite flavorful from the juicy pork belly with the egg, onion, chili and lemon. The rotisserie chicken was also flavorful as it has been marinated with lemongrass, garlic, spring onion, and ginger. I also tried the calamansi juice for the first time and I really like how it wasn’t too sweet and refreshing for a warm evening.Dont forget to also try their wines. The staff members are really nice and welcoming and they can definitely give recommendations for wine. 😊 Lasita also has a nice outdoor patio dining.
Wonderful restaurant with delicious food and great staff. The environment is cozy and the decor is Filipino in roots. They take both brunch and dinner reservations off Resy but youre also able to call in. Weekend brunches are worth going to for the brunch specials and great entrees. Make sure to order the crispy pata dish if you go for dinner and ask for their wine selections.
Real rating is more like 4.3-4.5Lechon was good juicy and fatty. The singing chips were okay. They tasted more like shrimp chipsSisig had really good flavors. The garlic fried rice complimented both the sisig and lechon.Has a nice little setup and the friendly atmosphere along with an attentive staff.
Food was great, ordered the chicken, pork belly and some sides. Was plenty for a party of 5. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Worth checking out.
Have you ever wondered what the food in heaven tastes like? The first bite of the Pork Belly Lechon at Lasita will take you there. Please allow this humble food enthusiast to try and describe the experience. The skin has a crunch like chicharrones, the belly as tender as the finest prime rib, and in between, the fat that melts away and overwhelms the palate with the most perfect essence of pork flavor. I had to close my eyes and let the purest of food joy sensations wash over me as I took my first bite. The atmosphere of the outdoor seating area was remarkable. The music played an important role in setting the space apart from the rest of the courtyard. It felt like an oasis of comfort and relaxation. The staff we exceptionally kind and patient with us as it was our first visit. They encouraged us to share dishes family style which we did using the extra plates provided. My wife and I shared the lechon plate and the pork belly sisig. The sides and dipping sauces were refreshing and very necessary to reset the palate between bites of the mind-blowingly flavorfull lechon. The sisig was also amazing. This one experience elevated it into my top ten favorite foods. I highly recommend ordering the calamansi juice. The exotic citrus flavor was a joyful way to refresh the palate between bites of lechon. In conclusion... food heaven!Fun Facts: Lasita was formerly Lasa. About six months ago they remodeled and revamped the menu to offer dishes at a lower price point. The same chef/owner an the same team runs the place.Lasa had been featured on Buzzfeeds Worth It show pork episode featuring the lechon. Also, they said that whenever Anthony Bourdain was in town he would eat at or order catering from Lasa.So do yourself a favor and give this place a try soon.
Such a vibe. The food, the wine, the atmosphere. Make sure you sit inside so you can be one with the art and music. We tried so many things on the menu and it was all delicious. My favorites were the atchara, roasted squash, garlic fried rice, pork belly and ube ice cream. Our server shared his top picks for wine (see picturesand they were absolutely incredible with the food!We arrived at 5:50 on a Saturday and had a four person table inside by 6:30. Reservations are not needed and I dont even know if they take them. Worth the wait.Check out the cookbook store at the other end of the shopping center while youre there.Parking is under the building. $10 max.
Get those squashes. Already know you want the chicken and pork, but get those squashes
Picked up some amazing pork belly lechon with garlic fried rice to-go. Cant wait to revisit to explore more of the menu and some natural wines!
Much respect to lasita for perfecting a very modern take on filipino flavors. The dishes are all well thought out, and the flavors that i grew up with definitely shine through and does not shy away.Ill say though that I wasnt able to place in an order ahead of time through doordash, and it was inconvenient to have to wait outside the restaurant for my take away order. I wish I knew about the toast tab order ahead option.
Had heard about this place a lot over the last year. Finally went in last night and had the pork plate with rice, picked vegetables and long beans. Beautiful food and atmosphere. Staff are super knowledgeable and set a beautiful tone. Wine selection seems to be mostly biodynamic and I loved the bottle they helped me choose. Dessert was 10/10, too. I’ll be back!
From the second we walked up to the outdoor waiting area, the team was extremely gracious. I went with my sister because we were told this was the best spot for a lechon sandwich.. We ended up getting the lechon plate and it was AMAZING. Half chicken plate pictured - (Pro tip: order extra mojo sauce and an extremely well priced natural wine)
Was so excited to try Lasita after my friend told me about it but ended up being super disappointed by their dry chicken and so-so service. Theyre very rude and take a long time to check on your table but also add a service fee to your check. Wont be back
Ended up at the hospital after having their pork lechon which was determined to not be cooked all the way. Make sure you check to see all food is properly prepped or just dont eat here
Ive been dining at Lasa/Lasita for years and love it! Its the best place to get FIlipino food in LA -- hands down. Its hard to pick a favorite but I think my favorite dish would be the catfish sando (they rotate their menus so Im not sure if its currently available.A must-try for any foodie in LA!
Could be a long wait if you come around prime meal times, but worth it for really good Filipino food. The staff and servers are inviting, very courteous, and professional. I was surprised by the decor once we were able to dine inside - outside is very unassuming but indoor decor is very chic. I had the half lb. lechon entree w/ garlic rice and it was delicious. We also ordered a bottle of wine (very summery and refreshingand the calamansi pie - very tasteful! Looking forward to coming back for future lunch dates!
Literally my favorite restaurant in LA. Has been for four years. I love everything they’ve done so far, the owners are fantastic people and chef and all staff are something special.Very excited about the new direction the restaurant is going in, and I’m sure they’ll nail the new menu. Can’t wait to try!
I had the pork sandwich, half chicken, chicken fat rice, and shreddage salad. The chicken and (especiallythe pork sandwich was phenomenal. Innovative, satiating, and comforting food. A welcoming experience in these horrible times.. Another vegetable dish would be nice, but thats really going out of ones way to find a fault.
My partner and I have been wanting to checkout this spot. What better way to experience LASA. We wanted to go old school and traditional with chicken adobo and pancit. They were excellent and the portion just served our appetite well. Plus the service was very friendly and accommodating. Calamansi juice was good too. Salamat.
Hits the right spots of Filipino homey food and still being a bit LA. The bread pudiing is to die for
I found this place today by accident. We were walking by and the name Lasa, caught my eye. Taste, in Tagalog. Clever and intriguing. So, I walked in and asked for a menu. They were serving their Sunday Brunch. We got the Longanisa, with a side of Lechon. The beefsteak sandwich and pandesal french toast. OMG, I am so happy I found this place.Just the other night I had a friend over whos traveled the world, but never had experienced Filipino food much in his travels. I had made a simple Cadereta and really enjoyed it, and he was asking my sister and I why there wasnt a lot of Filipino restaurants. I told him, most places Ive been to, the food has been so disappointing, I would never come back. Or, because my family or I can cook better then what was being offered. My sister commented, on how Filipino food just doesnt present well. Lasa, changed our minds on all at. The food here is Filipino comfort food at its best and presented so well, it made me proud to be Filipino. These two brothers are doing great things and I cant wait to come and enjoy their dinner options. The staff was also super chill and friendly. Enjoyed the vibe that set us on a great start to our Sunday. Salamat!
This is one of the late great Jonathan Gold’s favorite spots. The food is delicious and the service is so friendly. Interesting spin on classic Filipino food. The restaurant is small, so I recommend reservations. It’s fun to see the massive line for Howlin’ Rays.
Loved this place! Such great dishes! Perfect for sharing!! We tried the spring rolls to share and then had a little of everything...noodles, meat, soup. Really enjoyed the noodles in fish sauce and the crispy chicken. They were delicious. The beef tartar with chips was outstanding! We tried all the desserts...ice cream, pineapple and cream and bread pudding...all amazing!!Friendly and helpful service.
Solid, but not very exotic. Weve never had Filipino food before, so we dont really have a point of reference. But it doesnt seem to be in the same family as other Asian cuisine. The waitstaff was excellent.
I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on this menu! Everything I’ve had has been super delicious so far. Beef Kilawin is a great start if this is your first time there. I loved the lumpia sariwa! I recommend bringing a few friends here and doing a shared family style so you can get a taste of as many dishes. Condensed milk ice cream with black sesame is an unique dessert you won’t see often elsewhere.
Cozy and artfully designed space, and I liked the bgm. The service was also nice. But the problem I had with the food was that every ingredient seemed to go its own way and didnt really fit together. For example, the salad really was just big chunks of watermelon and cucumber plus slices of radish put together in one bowl. Same with the Longsilog bowl and the whole thing tasted very dry. Nevertheless, the French toast was a pleasant surprise - the coconut touch of the whipped cream was an ingenious idea and the toast itself was well-done as well, having a very crispy crust and soft interior.
First time having Filipino food, it was delicious!! Our group shared the different dishes so we got go try what felt like half the menu and left very satisfied. Definitely a nice dinner/ happy hour option for a small group of friends.
Update on 5/5/2019It’s been over a year since my last visit and I would still rate it 5 stars based on my Sunday brunch visit (had Lonsilog - garlic rice bowl with housemade Filipino pork sausage, fried egg, veggies). For health reasons, I’m not interested in the cheaper Filipino places, which use lesser ingredients and are heavily seasoned.LASA uses quality ingredients and the execution is very good with balanced flavors. I’m definitely a fan and look forward to revisiting.================================LASA has been on my “must try” list for quite some time since a serious gourmand friend of mine highly recommended it. I went with another friend I dine out with on a regular basis and we were both really happy with our DineLA meal and look forward to coming back. Upscale modern Filipino cuisine served at a level of high execution, but without pretentiousness by the kitchen and service was down to earth yet attentive. Beer and wine list is small, but good selections, which go well with the food. Corkage is $15 if you byob (we didn’t byob and ordered their house wines instead).
Really incredible food and were more than accommodating to our family. Could not recommend more, truly. Next level deliciousness, professionalism, and kindness all around. These brothers should be proud of what they’ve created together.
Small portions, octopus was delicious, skewers Soso, clams were nice and curry spicy. Service was excellent! Beef tartar was pretty good, but the chips were the highlight
Chase and Chad make such an amazing duo. These brothers always make us feel like we’re home. We always bring our kids and they eat everything which is rare. The new spring menu is so yummy and fresh. Definitely one of the best restaurants around. Stephanie is amazing at the front of the house and all the servers do a great job of explaining all the dishes. Don’t forget to end the meal with the condensed milk ice cream.
It is very difficult to find Filipino food that relates and showcase the taste Filipino-Americans. Lasa was an unexpected discovery while I was searching for food. The ambiane within the restaurant reminds me of my fathers house in the North with a vibe of 70s Philippines. The service was very excellent where you are welcomed and there is this feeling that they are excited to share the food from the kitchen. You have got to be excited...well firstly, they change their menu, like its a curated experience, every season is different and once its gone, youd be sad youve missed it. I had the Bistek and my gosh it was such a treat, a culinary magic, they made it so you could appreciate the taste of the food. I also stole my Moms Tartine, the flavor was very robust with the creamy and texture of the slightly toasted bread. If there was an Instagram for the tounge, the chef of Lasa is it. Visit this place....it is also hidden in a nook in Downtown Los Angeles Chinatown.
We went for early dinner on Thursday, and found a newly designed Spring menu. Our server led us through the list, identifying which dishes were restaurant favorites and adding to the descriptions on the menu. Her knowledgeable comments started a pattern of skilled and attentive that lasted through the meal, even after the restaurant filled up. We tried five items. The adobo peanuts ($5were crunchy and tossed with a multi-layered dressing of black vinegar, soy, and garlic. I had a skewer of wood grilled chicken gizzards ($3that had been marinated in ginger and annatto. Next came wok roasted sugar snap peas ($14), slightly charred but bright green and crisp, carefully prepped, and sauced with a coconut green goddess dressing that complemented the snap peas perfectly. The beef Kilawin ($18was a beef tartar, well seasoned with a patis aioli and served with taro chips. All parts of the dish were top notch, and the crisp and delicate chips were a perfect foil for the raw steak. Finally, we ate pork cheek kaldereta ($26), which was a stew including a generous portion of pork with potatoes, carrots, and fresh peas in a well flavored red sauce. Excellent dish, and perfect for a cool spring evening. This was the best meal Ive had in several months, and I will be back to try the rest of the menu.
This place is AMAZING! My dad is Filipino so I grew up with lots of traditional Filipino foods like pancit, lumpia, adobo etc., and LASA has very traditional flavors presented in a beautiful contemporary way.To start we got the chicken skewers (pretty much adobo), the pancit, and the charred cauliflower ginataan, all delicious. We also had the homemade melon drink, really fresh and good. Favorite dish was the Kesong puti dumplings, SO good, a must try!! The cauliflower ginataan is a dish with flavors my grandpa said reminded him of his childhood in Manila, so you know the flavors are mad authentic ❤️For dessert we had the market fruit ginataan, which was also amazing. So tasty. The service was also great. We came 15 minutes late because of traffic (classic LA), so they had given away our table, but they were super kind and gave us tea while we waited on the couch. They had a table ready for us in 10 minutes. Everyone was so kind and genuine, we had such a good night here! 100% recommend LASA :)
This is an amazing restaurant with an amazing staff and incredible menu. I happened to be in Chinatown on a job and Im so glad that I was turned on to this gem. Looking forward to the new brunch menu. Service and food quality is definitely on point. Family owned and family run makes for a wonderful atmosphere. Cant wait to come back with my family.
So we finally decided to check out LASA after we had two of our friends recommend LASA and seeing it highlighted on a buzzfeed show named “Worth It”. Something worthy of trying? Sure. I think it really depends on your taste buds.I will start off that the staff is extremely polite, courteous and know their stuff. We were seated promptly for our reservation where we started our dinner off with some non-alcoholic drinks. I had the Green Mango Soda and my gf had the Calamansi drink. The mango soda had a slight amount of bitterness mixed with tart and a hint of mint. I guess you can say it reminds me of a different type of kombucha. The Calamansi drink reminded me of a delicious mellow lemonade. Both drinks are worthy of a try. They’re not something you would normally find. The menu was simple with 14 items of varying sizes. We passed on the Pulutan so we could make room for the Umpisa and Ulam where we ordered the Wok Roasted Gailan, Savory Kakanin, Lumpia Sariwa Beef Kilawin and Lechon Manok. I will review write about each dish as they are each worthy of a review.Beef Kilawin: The patis aioli mixed with the flat-iron tartare made for the right mix of umami and texture in this dish. We however had to agree that the salt and vinegar on the taro chips were overpowering for us. On scale of 1-10 with 10 being an extremely salty, the chips were a level 8. We liked the tartar, just wished the chips complimented it more.Wok Roasted Gailan: This Chinese broccoli dish was splendid. It reminded me of the Chinese broccoli and oyster sauce dishes you get at dim sum spots, but with more flavors. The slight bitterness of the broccoli was balanced with the sour of the vinaigrette and the sweetness of the bagoong (salted krillwhile the rice gave the added slight touch of crisp to an overall soft dish.Savory Kakanin: This was my number three fav dish for the night. Parts of it reminded me of Japanese dishes. The brown rice cake was seared to just a slight crisp while the butter and broth made for a rich sauce to bring the soft shimeji mushrooms and rice cake together. A must try imo.Lumpia Sariwa: Not a lumpia like one you would eat at a family gathering. We were told this dish is usually on point, but unfortunately for us the saltiness and sourness of the peanut soy vin overpowered the dish.Lechon Manok: The crispy chicken on this dish reminded me of the crispy chicken dishes I would eat at Thai spots, but the sauces on this dish were much better and this was my second favorite dish for the night. The perfect balance of saltiness from the pan jus and the slight bitterness of the swiss chard were brought together well with the neutral puree texture of the brown rice polenta. For dessert we ordered the sesame seed ice cream and were given a serving of chilled ginataang as a complimentary dish on the house after we mentioned the Lumpia was salty. The salty and bitter of the sesame seed sprinkling goes well with the rich sweetness of the vanilla ice cream. To our amazement, the chilled ginataang was our lightest dish of the night and my favorite dish. We liked the lightness and fluffiness of the whipped coconut milk mixed with the sweet/bitter of the Asian pear and slight hints of sweet from the rice balls. In closing, I’d recommend going here with 4 people, so you can order a variety of their dishes and see for yourself if you like it. It breaks away from the traditional Filipino menus and expands your horizon to dishes you wouldn’t have anywhere else. #avantegarde
Its a modern take to Filipino food and it is on point!!! The dishes stay true to the essence of the filipino flavors yet it takes you a whole new journey. The staff are so accommodating and friendly. I would give it more stars if possible. I highly recommend it to everyone, Filipinos and non Filipinos alike.Bravo!
Amazing service and great food! You need to have reservations and I heard they get filled up pretty quickly. My fiance and I didnt know about it until we walked in but they were able to accommodate us. Overall it was a great experience and we would definitely come back again.
I grew up in the Philippines but I haven’t really had restaurant Filipino food in awhile. I love the texture of all the dishes and all the flavors compliments each other. Although they use ingredients from traditional filipino dishes, the way they were prepared is modernized and different on its own way. The presentation is like an upscale french place to be honest. The servers are all very accommodating and friendly too. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wanted to try filipino food with a twist.
Lasa has been on our must-try list for a while since weve read about it in the Johnathan gold 101 list.Came for lunch one time and realized that its casual food for lunch, and a whole different menu for dinner. Finally went for dinner and had a great experience. Even though we didnt have a reservation, they were able to sit us at 9PM on a Saturday. The service was fantastic and very attentive. The atmosphere was quaint and homey, even though it was a little loud with many tables close together. The dishes themselves were good, but nothing quite knocked it out of the park. Overall the vegetable dishes were more of the stars of the meal, being fresh and flavorful. The pork belly was very rich and crispy, but my favorite was the heirloom tomato salad. We ended with the coconut cream dessert which was very yummy and I would recommend it.Overall definitely worth a try but probably not a frequent spot for me.Service 10/10, food 7.5/10.
Overhyped and overpriced lunch. I dont think it is $25 per person lunch kind of place.
