Ruins of a medieval-era stone castle with interpretive information & city views.
Larochette Castle in Grevenmacher
Description
Beautiful château ruin in Luxembourg. Easy to imagine how grand this castle was. Great place to visit.
MoreHad an enjoyable walk around the castle
A beautiful chateau and easily accessible via several paths. The entrance is also free and there is a gallery in the main building.
MoreHidden gem, less busy than other castles in the area but still impressive, and because of the lack of other visitors, a great place to stroll around and explore. Minus one star because there is very little information about the castle either in the brochure (where half of the buildings are just labelled as ‘living space’or on site - a bit more information and interpretation would go a long way. Even wikipedia has more.
MoreAffordable, different and fascinating
The ruins and the castle are pretty, but the management is poor. The person at the entrance was very rude and unprofessional. They only accept cash to pay the entry fee and it is not written anywhere until the very door (after all the hiking), not even at the tourism office, where they didn’t warn us either.
MoreNice castle
Fascinating and mysterious to see how people lived back then in a castle.
Very interesting place - worth a visit
Cash only !! But nice view
Beautiful castle and the view is really stunning. The entrance fee is 5 euro and I think you get a sale if you are a student or a teacher just ask in the counter.
MoreTop
This is a really great and nice place with all over all friendly people. You can sit here in front of the old castle ruin and enjoy a good coffee after you visit the ruins inside
MoreThis castle was such a nice surprise! We were on our way to Vianden when we decided to give it a go (it’s only 5 km off the road to Viandenand it was simply awesome! The entry is free of charge and the inside of the castle is well maintained. The ruins are breathtaking. It was a high point on our trip.
MoreUnfortunately was closed
Impressive site overlooking the village below. More a ruin than a castle although restauration work is being done.
MoreVery beautiful view on the way a d from the castle too. The place as a whole is quite small and lovely too.
MoreThe castle itself is not pretty as only one part is presented in the way that tourists can enter and understand what is it about the other parts are ruined walls and no description of what is it about, there are two ways to reach the castle car driving way from above but it’s too narrow and only one car can drive at a time, so if you are lucky you can drive all the way or you need to drive back to give a way to other driver. Second way is to climb stairs from the city , the castle has a bit better view from city. April 2022 entry tickets cost 5 € for adults
MoreIt seems Beautiful, however is temporarly closed.
Well reserved. Different pictures on the walls illustrate the way this place used to look. Great idea. Recommended.
MoreGreat castle ruins with nice history. It is really nice to drive up there and got through the forest. There are also some trails around the castle that are also nice to explore in family.
MoreNice castle / ruin and worth a visit. They only accept cash though, which we found out after we took the short trail on foot :)The castle building does not contain anything about the castle or its history. Its just a photography exposition.
Moreİt is a fantastic place. İt tells a lot from the history. I still think of the architect and masters of stone. How a wonderful castle they built without technology and it is still up there against the centuries. Worth seeing.
MoreThe castle is beautiful as well as the place but the architecture of the way they consolidated ncient walls is very interesting too. A place worth visiting
MoreBeautiful castle on top of the hill above the cosy town of Larochette. In the weekend when the local market is open you can hear folk music up in there as well. Entrance is 5 eur for adults and there is also a small bar near the entrance.
Moreit is needed to pay a small fee at the entrance. The castle is very nice, you have a town view from top. There is a small café inside where you can sit and have some drink.
MoreCastle that has some restoration going in but is mostly a ruin. For double the price you can visit Vianen castle which has a lot more to see, do and learn. But the view is very nice and still worth the 5 euro entrance fee.
MorePretty castle, but they dont accept any bank/credit card, only cash
The castle is beautiful amazing place to Come visit and Nice and kind people🥰🦋🌤🌼
MoreAmazing place to go! The castle is beautiful and the city too.
Beautiful medieval castle in the heart of Little Switzerland region in Luxembourg
MoreNice ruin in the village of Larochette. You can drive up to the entrance, or park in the village below and walk up there in about 15 minutes. Entrance in 2020, € 5 for adults an children 6 and up € 3. Its a shame that there is limited information (signs and information about the building and historyon the site itself.
MoreThe castle is more like ruins, but very nice to explore. The entrance fee was 5 eur (July 2020). The road from the town to the castle is very narrow, so if you are unlucky there can be some struggle with cars coming from the opposite direction. The parking lot is very spacious and you can park in front of the gates. Since the castle is located on a hill, you get a grand view of the surroundings (the town located below and the forests around it). Well worth the trip.
MoreNice Castle ruin in a spectacular place. Walking there you can really get a feeling for how it must have been in those days.
MoreThe place and the surroundins. Large castle in ruins but very jnteresting. Nice views. Terrace to take drinks.
MoreNice nice photogenic place, only thing is.., during the winter time the castle is closed for visitors!! Bear that in mind and dont be like me standing in front of closed gate :D..Nice photo view on the castle is from the hill across the valley. Also in the city is a few decent café places.Very clean location.
MoreLarochette Castle is easily accessible for those staying in central Luxembourg. With a "Luxembourg Card", all transport is free, including certain castles and museums! This castle was included, so the whole day proved to be very cheap. For anyone travelling Luxembourg, there are a handful of castles that are considered a "must do". Although this one may not be the most popular, it was certainly my favourite. The ruins havent been as restored as some of the castles, so it felt much more authentic. Larochette was much quieter too, so we felt like we had the place to ourselves.
MoreNice place to hike about and climb up and down the steep hills
This is a really interesting place. Its a shame they dont show a bit more before the gate, and we were unsure to go in, but it was very good indeed. Very worth it.
MoreAmazing time with the family, the view is breathtaking and well worth seeing if you are in the area. The road towards the castle is one car only with a few passing places en route - a bit tricky if you are in a motorhome like we were! When you are there though, make sure you explore fully as there are lots of hidden areas that are just off the main track. Everything is very safe so no issues with the height! Well worth getting a picture of the castle from the town below so you can see it at scale! You can drive down or there is a walking path to the left of the castle entrance.
MoreInteresting place to visit. The ruins of the castle sit atop a huge rockface and its a fair hike up to there from either Larochette or via the woodland behind the castle. We managed it with our 3 young kids plus a buggy and rucksack of supplies. All areas are accessible and the views over Larochette and beyond are impressive. There remains an empty well within the ruins, which must be at least 20 metres deep. Rooms consist of old works of art, depicting scenes of life in the castle. There is a small gift shop, selling ice cream and, possibly, drinks. Gardens are well kept and there is the option to sit and relax there. If you like history, definitely visit here; even if not, its an interesting site and keeps the kids occupied. We spent about an hour exploring the grounds.
MoreBeautiful place, I went up there biking through great nature. The price entrance is 4 € I think a fair price.
MoreBeautiful castle, reccomended to go in the morning to avoid the tour busses.
Nice place, good views over the town. Was fun to walk around in the ruins. Also were some green areas with flowers.
MoreA real nice view and walk. Choose a sunny spring day, and be rewarded with a green serene view of he ruins, and a part of the building shown the medieval way of living. Walk through the ruins, take a stroll to the town, or simply enjoy a coffee at the castle. This is one of my favourite destinations in Luxembourg
MoreThis is a see it yourself place... yours to discover. Definitely worth the hike (there is a pedestrian path from the villageand gives an interesting glimpse into the compromises of restoration vs leaving the ruins as-is.
MoreThis was a great experience for me because I was the only one in the castle when I went. I was able to climb the fortress walls for some good pictures. Overall, nice place
MoreA great place with handy illustrations of the interiors youre looking at as they were back then. No crowds, no "dont touch this, dont go there" rule, a perfect place to relax, explore and reflect. A free parking and a little birdie are included!
MoreA nice ruïn which gives a great view over the town. Inside the ruin you find building which has information and illustrations on what you are looking at. And how it was back in the medievel times. Entrance ticket is cheap.
MoreThe views to and from the Castle are fantastic.A great place to wander around. Its nice being able to make your way around the ruins and rebuild it in your mind. The restored part is also very good. They hold temporary exhibitions etc in there, we saw a variety of art on show.
