Vientiane, Laos, Phongsali
Traditional building with silk samples & weaving demonstrations, plus a shop for handcrafted goods.
This is one of the must-visit places in Vientiane. It was an honor to meet the co-founder, and master weaver Bouavanh Phoumin. She explained the weaving, and dyeing process, and personally toured me around. I learned so much about the Lao textile, and appreciate the process of weaving.
The owner is very frindly and showed us the Museum. It was interesting. At the end weve got some blue Tea.
Lovely host. Thank you Kanchana for hosting us.
Loved it! Got to see all the types of weaving and got to try the easiest type of loom. A lady will show you around and provided free refreshments from her garden. 30,000kip for a ticket.
Beautiful place. Pretty deserted. Ticket is 30,000kip.
Very nice exhibition of Lao Textile, very nice and kind owner. We saw indigo colour in making (blue dye made from plants). Very beautiful wooden house with nice garden.
This beautiful place is very welcoming. As there isn’t much to do in Vientiane, its a good place to learn a bit about the history of lao textile making and colouring. The lady there is very kind and showed me a few things and how to use the weaving table. At the end she even offered me a free tea, which was super tasty. It changed colours after putting in the lime, super cool!
Wow I can tell you guys that you will find traditional things and Lao culture here 😬😬
I really enjoyed spend few hours in this little oasis. The owner welcomed me and my friend in a very sweet manner. Was absolutely interesting to learn about Laotians textile culture. I am happy they are protecting their beautiful culture. After the visit, they offered us a cup of blue tea.
Elegant museum, staff very nice and friendly. Its definitely worth a visit.
Really great place to visit with children and also for the people who like to observe Lao tradition.
An interesting place to visit if youre in the area. The staff are so friendly and passionate about what they do, and the first room in particular is fun to try weaving yourself (with help!).
Great place with great spirit
30kip entrance was well worth the tour we got of the entire museum. We saw women weaving the textiles (many of themand got an explanation of the whole process with diagrams in english. The entire compound is beautiful, literally so beautiful we saw a couple taking their wedding photos there. We rented a motorbike to get there because it is a little away from town with nothing else around. It was so beautiful the upstairs was a museum, then we saw where they dye everything and they explained everything. We had tea and jackfruit in their store and enjoyed looking at all the beautiful weavings. I bought a little jewelry pouch for 26kip. Looks like they are building a restaurant which would be amazing because I would have loved to spend the entire day there it was so relaxing. Highly recommend to make the trek out there
Very nice and lovely folks. Personally took us through the property. Really enjoyed it.
Had a great experience was a lot more fun than expected. The staff were able to explain and show you the traditional waving process. This really provided a huge amount of appreciation for the products.Would highly recommend for anyone wanting to learn about the history in lao.
Very interesting place to visit in Vientiane. You can see textiles being weaved and coloured in real-time which is a good experience. They also offer butterfly pea tea and fruits to the visitors which are nice as well. A good experience to have.
The museum is a little way from the city center but is certainly worth the trip. A number of buildings are located around a green lawn - it is a very peaceful and cooling place - you can easily spend some time relaxing in the garden or the rocking chairs after seeing the museum. The museum shows very well how the different weaving processes are carried out and the staff is super friendly. We enjoyed the visit.
Great experience in the museum (open 9:00 to 16:00where people can see traditional weavers performing different techniques of weaving, requiring high skills. There are also very clear panels explaining all the steps of the weaving process, from worms to to final product.Upstairs there is a very unique collection of old weaved textiles. The building (built in the last 20 yearsis very representative of traditional Lao architecture, all in wood, with smart air channels to ensure cool temperature. Then we had the chance to participate into a dying workshop to create our own indigo scarf to take home, with our personally designed patterns.Last bit not least, the staff speaks very well English and is very helpful and kind. One of the last peaceful, green place in Vientiane. A must to spend time in.
Fantastic, seeing the looms being worked is great and the level of skill involved is staggering...
Informative and natural dyed silk and cotton fabric for sale
Although the museum is located far from the city center, I highly recommend paying a visit. It is privately owned by a family, I was greeted by Tina who accompanied me during the visit to explain to me the different textile techniques (and invited me to try some), the traditional costumes and the dyeing techniques. The explanations were very informative. At the end you are invited to drink a very delicious tea. As I was the only one visiting the museum at that time, I took time to chat with Tina about the story of the museum and all the promising projects she’s planning for the museum
Very cool, takes you through textile history and showed weaving and dying processes. Gift shop. Free Butterfly Pea-Pandan tea after your tour!
The owner here is quite kind. She demonstrated how to weave textile to me. Needless to say, I really appreciate her. I highly recommend you all to come here to learn something related to textile and Laos’ culture and to chill out.
loved it, got a tour of weaving , silk cotton, how the thread is dyed, all set in a magnificent garden. there is also a museum upstairs
Very warm and friendly. Great explanations and beautiful products!
Traditional museum to find out about textile works (tie dye, weaving, etc). There are various activities to try out. The owner is really nice and show us around, explaining every details.
Friendly guide and interesting exhibition. Not very large or very close to other sights
We had a great time here. The weaving and dying techniques are explained well and the lao textiles are incredibly beautiful. We also liked the wooden houses and the green garden.
Entry fee is 30.000 Kip. Came there alone and got kind of a private tour. Learned a lot about weaving, could try it myself too.As the other reviews already mentioned the place is owned by a family that runs it. They also import different products from all over Laos small villages to promote their craftsmanship.I stayed there for one hour and sat down with the guide and talked with her for some time, her English is pretty good and she is very friendly. Bananas from their garden and blue leaf tea were for free.
One the best places to learn first hand about Laotian textiles and dyeing methods.
Fantastic. Well worth the trouble of getting there. The woman who runs the museum gave a great tour. She helped my daughter try weaving, showed us her garden where she grows indigo, her dye pots, and let us ask loads of questions. The tour ended in a beautiful wooden house gift shop where she made us each a cup of butterfly pea tea. So far this has been my family’s favorite stop in Vientiane.
Very informative and interesting. There are numerous exhibits of textile works from Lao indigenous people. Owner and family are very welcoming. We ended our tour with complimentary tea and snacks.
Great venue for parties and weddings
A highlight for the visit to Vientiane. The place is small but beautiful with several Lao traditional houses which are maintained and managed nicely. They offer an excellent introduction to Lao textile history with a lot of things to see. An enjoyable exprience!
Great experience! The family who is administrating the museum was going to picnic in the yard, and an old lady who is experienced in traditional textile technique guided us a tour, showed in person several different types of textile techniques.
Its good place for shooting photo and make movie
Great place to visit
Amazing place! Its worth to have a visit there!
Awesome museum in such a cozy, beautiful place. We had a guided tour, we got the chance to use the weaver for the first time ever and we got a great tea at the end. People are friendly and the place is super peaceful.
It was a wonderful place to visit 11 years ago and still is.
Magical spot for textile lovers! Display of wonderful traditional Lao weaving and artifacts in a beautiful traditional Lao timber buildings and ground. Also - a weaving and textile dying workshop. All natural fibres and dyes. Hard to believe that such a gem exists in private hands in Vientiane...!
It was great to see the fabric a and how theyre made. Such intricate work. The lady was friendly and tried to answer all my questions.
