Lagenda House & Cafe - Asian fusion restaurant in Butterworth, Malaysia
Food was great. Locals desserts much better than the others.
Ikan bakar taste just okay..a bit bland for me tbh. Love the Ulam congkak plating. Great hospitality. Oh the Malaya teh ais was great. some sort of mix of rose and milk tea. The curry pasta was flavourful. would I come again? maybe.
Enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much that we had to dine here twice during our Penang trip. Loved that their theme and food pays homage to the late legend P. Ramlee and the Malay culture.Depending on your mood you may choose between classic or fusion dishes. Either way you wont be disappointed.
NOT RECOMMENDED ANYMORE! Basically no star for you.Have been patronizing this cafe when they just started their business at Campbell street. Always bring my tourist friends, colleagues, family & relatives to this cafe as their food is nice. Love their setup and presentation.Service is good & slightly slow (acceptabletill they moved to a new location.1 of the waiters is extremely rude and act like a samseng. This round we didnt order any main as we just had our lunch but we order cucuk udang, some dessert and drinks.Half way eating approximately 50mins later we were CHASED out by them.NO heads-up or anything, the samseng waiter just throw (Yes, throw!the bill on our table and say "Bayar kat counter-Pay at the counter".We told the waiter that we didnt ask for the bill, he replied this table is taken. We looked around, I can only see 1 family of 6 or 7 are waiting to be seated.Yes the restaurant indoor is full, but outdoor seating are still plenty. If the customer prefer indoor seating, then it will be first come first served basis. And if Lagenda needs us to give up the table for other customer, do tell us nicely or ask can we give this table to another customer waiting in line.Btw, our table is only for 4 ppl. We were seating next to the main door. 1 side of the table is against the wall and our table wont be able to accommodate for 6ppl. That is for sure.Too angry till i forgot to ask for the waiters name.
Its really nice place to enjoy your food, good environment. The food is delicious and worth with the price.
If u like classical movies and songs, this is the place to go for food. I ordered the chicken rendang. It was soso only. The chicken was a bit tough for my liking. Reservation needed. I waitwd quite long for my meal. The rest of my family were nearly half done with their dinner when I reminded the staff that Im still waiting for my meal. The price was a bit on the high side.
A must visit Malay restaurant. My favourite is definitely their Gado-gado with savory scrumptious peanut sauce. A must order to share among accompanies. Also highly recommend their desserts like pisang bakar, pisang penget and sago with gula Melaka. These are all authentic local desserts, taste divine.Their main courses are lovely, some come with Congkak-ful of condiments. Their food presentation is always so captivating. Feast to both your eyes and stomach.Cozy environment, P. Ramlee themed with old school Malay music. Floor crew are helpful. Price is reasonable. Good dining experience.
Great experience at Lagenda House & Cafe. This cafe serves both western inspired food dishes and authentic Malaysian dishes. Regardless of the choice, the food presentation is really nice and the food itself is very tasteful and served in proper portions. Their fresh drinks are also very good. Located in the heart of George Town. I strongly recommend this place. Kind and efficient service. 👍
Among others, the outlet serves traditional Malay cuisines with appetizing decoration. Since it is situated in the Georgetown tourist spot, it is convenient for international tourists who wish to try the traditional Malay dishes. It also has western on the menu.
Very much enjoyed every aspect of the cafe. The food portion is quite big for me personally, so worth the price. Recommended for good food and good vibes. However, I suggest calling up the cafe and booking a table beforehand. Do come early as the road is used for night market from 3pm onwards, so parking could be a problem
Incredible dining experience in Penang. The tandoori chicken is delicious and the side dishes give it the perfect touch.Undoubtedly one of the best places on the island.Highly recommended
Nice fusion halal food, tried the chicken satay, ayam penyet and prawn oglio, they are all beyond expectations!
Another beautiful and awesome Malay Muslim Halal cafe. Fast service, friendly and wow, sedappp!!
Food were nice. Doesnt wait long for food to arrive. Food presentation is nice but not practical. Very small table given for 4 person with no place to eat comfortably. The condiments came in a small congkak which took out space. Requested to change table but they said all table fully reserved. We ordered pengat pisang for dessert, its delicious but sadly the banana already too ripe, can taste the over ripe and also the coconut gravy is toooo sweet. Dissapointed on this part.
The restaurant located in the heart of Georgetown ... hustling and bustling strategic area ... Lagenda House and Cafe. The ambience was cozy and feel antique. The staffs kinda friendly and very helpful with their explaination on their menu.Good place to dine in. Diverse menu and the food was delicious and taste surperb. The nasi with grilled fish wrapped in banana leaves and ulams were served in Congkak is highly recommended. Hot Teh Tarik is nicely brewed.
This is the best Malay/ indon restaurant I ever had in the whole Malaysia.
The food was great, the vibes were a bit dimned. The staffs were attentive. The nasi ayam is nice but the nasi kambing is a little dissapointment as it was really chewy. It was really hard to eat so it is really not worth the price, the place is a bit pricey but it should not have this issue. The rice was a little bit overcooked. The kerabu were all delicious but i hope that they could be fresh. I have been here the second time.
Tan Sri P. Ramlee fans where you at? The word “Lagenda” here refers to P. Ramlee. As you enter the cafe, you’ll instantly realise the interior theme is attributed to this classic Malay film legend. And then as you browse through their menu, dishes are named after his many films.Pricing-wise is surprisingly reasonable. Mains are mostly in the range of RM20-30. I ordered Ayam Percik Madu Tiga that is served with turmeric rice. It was heavenly. But the kuah percik is different that what I am accustomed to, it’s in the like of kuah kacang/satay to be exact. I paired this dish with Lime and Mint Iced Tea, how very refreshing!Extremely satisfied with the food quality, price and ambience here. Staffs are also very friendly. Will definitely come again someday.
1. Really tasty food. The masak lemak udang nanas is heavenly.2. Price is unbelievably affordable.3. Love every single bit of the presentation. Malay old style decor. P Ramlee vibes and soundtrack.4. Book in advance so you get to sit inside.5. Parking space is aplenty in the alley just 2-3 shops away before u reach here.
Legenda cafe located in George town, Penang is a great place to try out local food. The restaurant as a cosy feel and kept clean.Food was great 8/10Drinks 6/10Price $$-$$$ slightly on higher sideOverall great place to go have some good food with friends and family.
Superb Penang Malay cuisine amidst legend P.Ramlee nostalgic ambience 👍
I would not recommend this place especially if you’re a tourist wanting to try local food. Hygiene is a concern. The food presentation looks nice but some ingredients were not fresh or good (e.g. nuts). Service was poor as well.
This is the first time we ate here. The comfortable atmosphere while playing Tan Sri P. Ramlees song is appropriate. The food was delicious especially the Gado Gado set. While the Rendang Ayam set .. Its more like chicken curry, not like rendang raya. But its okay. The decoration in this cafe is beautiful. We were fascinated by the saxophone frame on the wall of this cafe, beautiful. Not only are there comfortable and clean toilet facilities but a mini surau is also provided here. Can come walk in or call for early booking is easier because the table is always full. Then the parking problem, every day starting at 4 pm the car parking space outside is a space for street traders, here MPPP is very diligent and very punctual, they will tow your car along with a fine at exactly 4 pm, so please be careful.I hope this review can help you in choosing the right day and time for you to come here. ☺️
Varieties. Delicious signature dishes while listening to the late P.Ramlee’s songs. We tried a few different menu and liked all. A good choice if you are looking for something other than nasi kandar.
Great ambiance! cozy atmosphere entertaining legend songs from album/movies of belated legendary artist P Ramlee. Foods are tasty and unique as their legend menu name too! Prices are affordable reasonable. Good service. Highly recommended 👍👍👍🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️
My second time dining in to this restaurant within two months. The restaurant offers mouth-watering western and malay cuisine. The atmosphere suits the name of the restaurant very well because its decorated with "lagenda-themed" pictures and instruments. The ambience also makes the dining experience comfortable and relaxing as its accompanied by classical malay songs. Its recommended to make a reservation first before dining in because the restaurant is usually full.Food: 9.5/10Price: worth the priceService: 9/10Cleanliness: 9/10
Nice food and good ambiance. Authentic local Penang dishes with mixture of nonya style. Love it
Reasonable flavours, but let down by the service. We ordered chicken satay and fried bean curd with vegetables (Taukua Sambatfor entree. Then a lamb curry and the sea bass. We asked for a 15 minute break between courses (having learnt that if often arrives all at once).Main courses arrived 10 minutes after we ordered and before the entrees! So we sent them back and asked for entrees first.Satay was good, fried bean curd was ok but vegetable “salad” was all onion with 4 small pieces of cucumber and some carrot strings on top.The mains when they came back out were quite dry so I suspect they had been taken back and left in a food warmer until we had finished entrees then, then brought back out.Didn’t get a chance to order dessert as 20 minutes after main dishes cleared, no one had been back outside to check if we wanted anything else to eat or drink.
Visited 17th June 2022Nice and cozy place and very good atmosphere.Played light music filled with P. Ramlee famous movie script. 👍🏻Variety of "movie theme" foods.Ordered Ikan Bakar Pancha Delima, Ayam Percik Madu 3, Ayam Penyek Nusantara, Salmon Teriyaki, Banana Bakar & Banana Split. Some dishes were creatively served using congkak. But despite the all good things, to me, the taste is just plain okay. 😅Just my own personal view.Might be different for others.Honestly, it is nice place for quick catch up with friends or family.
Love this place, the atmosphere is very good and peaceful. And the food is not disappointed! The portion is worth the price.
Great selections of Malay fusion food P. Ramlee inspired-theme restaurant. Listen to P. Ramlee songs while enjoying your lunch with nicely decorated ambience. A lot to choose from menu list, but we had a simple Gado-Gado and Deep Fried Mozzarella just to have a taste of the delicacies. Trying other menu next time. The ABC perhaps needs more kacang; ground nuts, red kidney beans, corns and brown sugar to make it more fusion ABC :)
great fusion food, just need more approachable friendly staff
If you want the best Malay food in Penang, consider coming here.
Beautiful restaurant with P. Ramlees theme. Enjoy the playlist of songs from P Ramlees movies. Got western fusion foods and local foods for you to pick. I ordered Squid Lemak (I forgot the full name). Need to wait a little bit before my food being served but it worth time as the food was delicious. And all the songs really recall the memories watching P Ramlees movies during my childhood which makes me forgot about the time. 100% recommended!
Great food! Service a bit slow as it was a full house. We ordered Gado-gado which was fresh and plentiful. Nasi ikan bakar and banana fritters with ice cream for dessert.
Gado-gado was nice. Ambiance too. Difficult to find parking space. Lontong a bit spicy (its not supposed to be spicy unless you add the sambal), the chicken dish the waiter recommend tasted weird. Not sure whats the taste supposed to be. The best dish is the Pengat Pisang 👍👍
Delicious, I mean, super delicious.I would recommend you guys to order their dessert and "Malaya Tea Ice". The environment is very cozy and full with P.Ramlees memories. The prices are also reasonable ❤
Gado-gado and peanut sauce serve in hotPenang mee kuah very good tastePisang Bakar is deliciousFor 2 of us super fullDelicious 😋😋😋😋😋Cleanliness needs to improve
If you are looking for malay foods with nice ambient and atmosphere then you should visit here. Here they serve conventional and also some cross over malay western fusion dishes. It is my first time visit here with my gf. I really enjoyed the foods especially the ayam penyet that comes with blue rice and spices served on a very special congkak tray. Last but not least, the price is also very affordable with the quality of foods they served.Very recommended for everyone!
Everything ordered taste good 👍🏻 my fav is ikan bakar..a bit pricey but worth it 🤗
Food was really nice. Very cool place, nice ambience. We love it here.. Banana bakar was a bit too sweet for me. But overall was a great experience eating here. Recommended 👍🏻
Super cozy, beautiful ambience and flavourful foods. Along dine in, nostalgia music from legend P. Ramlee era.
Foods good. Drinks could be improved.Roast chicken, salmon, and massaman pasta was good. Rice is nice, but Id expect a bit more for the price.Espresso was subpar, latte was bad. Latte milk is too thin and probably over-aerated because its bubbly without the thickness youd expect.Overall okay if youre used to Georgetown prices.
The service was good, the food taste is delicious and tasty, especially the beef redand plate. The dessert was also good, Pisang goreng. I would give them 4 stars for time waiting the food but five stars for being worth waiting.
I went to this place three years ago and repeat recently and I am happy to see the glow up. The food was great last three years and now too. I am happy that you’re maintaining the great taste. Fusion food at its best with p ramlee elements surrounding you. Worth repeating and definitely coming back for more
Amazing food. I liked the Satay, esp that peanut sauce. Yummm. Even taht Beef redang was soo flavourful n yum. Calamari starter wanted some marinating, hehe its just me being Indian.Service was good too. No long wait.
first time here. came here for having lunch. the service were nice and the staff were good and nice. one of the staff saw my son was sleeping, they slow down a bit the volume. the price i think were just nice for the food taste and the service that we paid for. love the ambience
Love the scene of this cafe that appreciates and dedicates itself based on our legend, P. Ramlee. However, its quite hard to get yourself a table when you get into it at peak hours. I got my table that didnt serve well for my pleasant experience because I could the stack of unwashed plates behind the counter that shouldnt be there. I suggest if you can come in early, choose to sit beside their window. Thats the sweet spot or else, just opt to sit outside if theres only one table left in the middle that faces the counter. Food here are nice and tasty. I suggest you try their ikan bakar for your first meal. Prices are premium here for occasional dinner.
A very unique place. Worth to visit just to feel the atmosphere of Malaysia of 20th century.Amazing food. Various of traditional dishes of the region such as Gado gado, chicken rendang, masaman curry and so on.I’d like to bring all my friends here
Delicious! Excellent Asian fusion, fresh and good variety of vegetarian, vegan and meat. Everything we had was flavorful and fresh. Drinks were also excellent. Also nice calming cafe setting. The price also reasonable and matching with the food tasted. They service also great and satisfied with it. They staff were very helpful and friendly. They always greeting that customer who visited that place. Next time we will come here again!
