Stately refuge with a global menu, plus famed chef's table, a tasting menu with kitchen seating.
Ordered carte blanche. Thats when they serve you several courses at the chefs discretion. First course included two halves of hard boiled egg that has a wallop of mayonnaise and a dusting of some black stuff. Mayo on a hard boiled egg, folks. This is fine dining. Also got the wagyu beef and it was chewy and not good. Was expecting the food to be good but was generally disappointed and unimpressed.
One of the best places for breakfast. I highly recommend the eggs Benedict with the house special potatoes and sourdough toast. The omelette is great as well.
One of the best meals since COVID Michelin star quality
Went for dinner for my birthday the food and drinks were amazing. The staff were extremely attentive! Definitely will be back.
Great food, be aware that the portions are very small. Valet parking is reasonably priced but extremely slow. Drinks were great
2nd time. 1st time was about 4yrs ago. At that time my then 13 year old son said, "There are two restaurants that have made me smile, Per Se and LaCroix." So post-covid, with an older but wiser son in tow, we checked LaCroix out. Were they all that, post-covid with 4 years of maturation under the belt?I must say yes even with a new chef, LaCroix delivered. Culinary technique? Check. Creativity? Check. Bang for the buck? CHECK!We had dined at Gabriel Kreuthers in NYC a few days before. While GKs best surpassed Lacroix (smoked sauerkraut with sturgeon and aged duck breast. Best duck breast ever!), I must say LaCroix just slays it in terms of area under the curve. Every dish was very good to awesome. At $155 per 6 courses compared to $255 at GK, LaCroix wins. Mind you, GK is no slouch. With Manhattan pricing in mind, it was worthwhile. However. I must give the overall value to LaCroix.Mind you, I have not been to Parc. Vernick, etc. in Philly. However, I would be perfectly happy to go to LaCroix again and again.
We had an absolutely delicious dining experience at Lacroix! All of the servers and staff were very attentive, friendly and went above and beyond to make this birthday dinner incredibly happy and memorable. Every dish was delicious and unique, and at the end of the meal we were given yummy boxes of sweets as well as a champagne cotton candy. They all went out of their way to make the dinner an amazing experience for us all. Two of our party said it was the best dinner they had ever had. Thank you to the terrific staff and chef for such a perfect dining celebration!!
We had such a great experience. The staff is incredible. We felt at ease and we were treated like kings not to mention how delicious every single meal was. We are looking forward to our next visit. Thank you for the treats :)
This was the welcome to Philly I needed. Amazing food, amazing service, the ambiance was wonderful. A memorable celebration for sure.
Amazing food! Each dish was delicious. Starting with creamy perfectly salted butter. The watercress strawberry salad was perfectly complemented by a creamy dressing. The soup was creamy and a bit heavy. However, the basted egg was a fabulous addition and the baguette was perfectly toasted to be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! The salmon and sorrel was amazing. The salmon was moist and succulent with a perfectly crisp! The beetroot sandwiches was the most original flavor. The textures and smokiness was unforgettable.Overall one of the best meals of my travels and we will be returning for dinner during our short trip. Reservations made!
The seating and arrangement of the tables plus the decoration and atmosphere looked amazing. I loved the view weve been given and I love the sets of dishes and foot were able to eat. This would be a great 10/10 restaurant.
Cant believe Ive never heard about Lacroix. This is definitely an experience in and of itself. Its not an everyday kind of place but is absolutely worth trying if youre into gastronomy and finer dining. They blended these two very well.My up front warning is that it can be very pricey and has a relatively fixed menu (prix fixe). The menu does rotate but offers little in the way of flexibility. Personally, I really liked this because they were able to get into the details of the food much more than a broader menu would. (I also expected this going into it).High end Caviar menu for those who partake. They also had some a la carte small bites featuring domestic caviar and oysters. The prix fixe had two places to choose between two options but I suspect this changes with the menu. The wine menu was extensive and the sommelier was excellent. (Down side is if getting a bottle it may not pair well with entire menu experience - adding the wine pairing may be a better option given the fixed menu. Will be doing this next time). For a menu of entirely small plates you leave overly filled. The experience leaves you dizzy and slightly euphoric. They really put energy into the details. Even the service was just right - not too present but never lagging. They were all very well trained and in tune with each other.Ill be honest that I absolutely hated one of the menu items. Yet, I still have Lacroix a 5/5 because the dish was done so well in every other way. Some would argue thats a flaw but I believe that without that sense of freedom and adventure experiences like this cant exist. (And the other ten dishes ranged from "very good" to "spectacular")Misc: coat room, valet parking, and crayons for children (? Who would ever bring a child that age to a place like this).Update: just reopened in April after 2 year hiatus. Still so good. Easily Michelin star quality. Sommelier was awesome - again! Has a la cart menu in addition to chef prefix with wine pairing options. Very worth it. You can go for a nicer meal on the pricier side or take a journey with them on the prefix menu. We did the full experience and we’re not disappointed at all. Eager to go back for their famous brunch
On May 1 I had the one of my best overall dining experiences at Lacroix. I was celebrating my anniversary so I was hoping that I would not be disappointed. The ambiance was fantastic, from early evening to sunset what a nice view to be overlooking Rittenhouse Square. Every course of my 6 course meal left one wanting for more. The service was impeccable, complimenting very well the ambiance and food. A small adjustment in the menu was made to recognize my anniversary which left me totally impressed. Finally, I would like to recognize Jamie, Joshua, Tim, and Max. They were the team that made my meal memorable and ensured that I will dine here again.
This top notch restaurant inside a 5-star Rittenhouse Hotel is full of amazing experience. The servers are super attentive, very caring, and overall food taste matches the expectation - I especially LOVED the A5 Wagyu entree with sliced fresh black truffle along with fresh wasabi. It was cooked to a perfection and had a nice balance with wasabi, truffle slices and the sauce. One of the best wagyu I have had so far. Desserts were all wonderful too. I loved how each tasted and enjoyed every bite of them! 🥰I also loved how private I felt throughout my dining experience.I had chefs selection with 6 courses including the dessert priced at $145/pp.The restaurant and hotel interiors are elegant and pleasing to look at.The hotel offers a valet parking for $32 (overnight at $60), but if you get your ticket validated you get $12 discount, FYI.I would certainly come back to this place again.
Beautiful restaurant, mediocre food. Drinks were good.
I was looking forward to Anniversary brunch here BUT very disappointed in food quality ! Eggs Benedict was nice but Petit Dejeuner was not to 5 stars quality (croissant was dry not buttery at all, shaved ham was dry, one boiled egg was cold - the only fresh item on my plate was half avocado). Place was clean and well sanitized.Overall OVER PRICE !! Plus having to pay $32 for a valet parking where I could just park my car myself. One great thing from my experience to this place was SERVICE. Everyone there was very friendly.
Very good meal and service; pleasant atmosphere; extensive drink, cocktail, and wine menu; well worth the money; you get what you pay for! I would recommend this establishment. Everyone should take advantage of this establishment, in my opinion. Whoever approaches me with a question about this establishment will receive my highest recommendation.
Brunch Extraordinaire! I came with my wife for an anniversary brunch. They were very accommodating. The staff is extremely well trained that certainly elevated our experience. They paid very close attention to finest details, such as I saw a staff member making neighboring table while placing glass not only he perfected placement of the silverware, he went through fine detail to check glass for any fingerprints as well. Apart from the service, food itself also deserves raging reviews of 5 stars. The chef accommodated my vegetarian request, and prepared dishes that were finger liking delicious. It was very peaceful fine dining experience in middle of the city. #VeggieAbroad
Overlooking Rittenhouse Square, it doesn’t get any better on any given Sunday. The Staff is so attentive. The kitchen is not to be believed. You are overwhelmed by all the choices of appetizers, main courses and the desserts. Go hungry and sample everything. Highly recommended.
The best restaurant in Philly if not the country, bar none. Have had the privilege of having both dinner and brunch here several times and cannot wait to return. So underrated, it is completely deserving of all three Michelin stars if it was located in New York. The tasting menu is not only exquiste, but also inventive (i.e. sea bass cooked in the french tradition but using north african spices). The service is also equally as exquiste. When I dined here with my mother for her birthday, I put in the reservation that she loves chocolate, and the chef customized the tasting menu around a chocolate theme from start to finish. Dont think just go, and do the tasting menu, its a must.
(Update: 2020)I loved Lacroix until a while, and I think recently the taste of the food has gone a bit down. During my recent visit, I did the Chefs tasting. While the food was plated in an eye-catching manner, the taste was a bit lacking. I was especially displeased with the Pheasant, which was just plain dry. I would, however, extend my compliments to the pastry chef, because the desserts were on point. Hope you guys get better, and back to your previous quality. On a side note - The service is still one of the best in the city and the ambiance is fantastic as usual.(2 years ago)One of the best restaurants in Philadelphia. The food was sumptuous, and the service was mind blowing.
We stayed at the hotel this weekend and slept in and missed breakfast. We wandered down to the restaurant to have lunch before hitting the museums. The greeting was warm and welcoming (both at lunch and later for a cocktail). Our server was knowledgeable and the perfect blend of being there when we needed something and retreating when we were engaged in conversations. We ordered the credit to start with glasses of wine. The jicama was a treat and the avocado mousse was the best I have ever had. Wine list was great and my husband and I both enjoyed a few glasses.I got the veggie burger - again - one of the best I have ever had. My husband got the cobb salad and raved about the freshness. The staff was quick to keep water glasses full, wish away empty plates, and keep the wine glasses full. The manager stopped my to assure everything was perfect - and it it was. Impressed with the food and service and cant wait to go back.
Before I begin I want to say the scallops were a little salty, but, I Came here for an anniversary and had a great time. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. I recommend the raclette.
By far the very B E S T. My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Lacroix for brunch today, we had been hearing so much about it we just had to try it for ourselves. Well for starters when you arrive at the Rittenhouse Hotel we were greeted by the most pleasant valet attendants and doormen. Once we exited elevator on the second floor we were warmly greeted by the most pleasant host staff and at that point we checked our coats. We were lead by our hostess to a stunning window seat that overlooked Rittenhouse Square Park. From there our waiter introduced himself, and then the wonderment begins. We were then taken on a tour, yes a tour of the restaurant, totally unexpected. We were escorted around to the various food stations, from fresh sushi and caviar to fresh greens an traditional breakfast items such as potatoes, eggs, bacon and sausage. The tour went on to the back end of the house where you get to see where the magic happens. The various food stations and chefs preparing what you are about to indulge in.I am a visual person, and being invited to take a tour of the back end of the restaurant for me was such a big plus, to simply be able to see where and how our food was prepared was such a treat. Now on to the eats...lol ! let me tell you if you simply want eggs and potatoes, great Lacroix has got you covered but you would be doing your taste buds, food palette and imagination and injustice. Dining at Lacroix is a culinary adventure that everyone deserves to experience at least once in their lifetime. The flavors, options, ideas and flawless executions of all of the dishes, no masterpieces that Lacroix offers are out of this world. Annnnnnnnd you better check out that dessert room......... A M A Z I N G. Something to satisfy every sweet tooth. The wait staff is so pleasant and attentive to say the least, you guys R O C K ! When you get up to indulge in the splendor you return to your napkin folded and your glasses topped off, every time.I am a person who values good service and this was not it, this was G R E A T service. I you are in the Philadelphia area , treat yourself, you wont be disappointed.Thank you Lacroix, see you soon !
My bf took me there for my bday and it was Magical! Outstanding food and service. The food and drinks were delectable. We did the tasting menu and it was worth every penny. Chris was our server/presenter is quite knowledgeable about food and wine pairings.
They fed me a pigeon with a fancy name and charged me $200 for my meal, however the food was impeccably prepared. The service surpassed even my expectations. Ill be more careful with my choices when I visit next time. Google it first if youre not sure. I heard the brunch is amazing. I dont think it gets much fancier than this.
This is the best Christmas brunch, with several seatings but reserve early to get a seat, there is walk in at the bar with the same incredible service, Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year, see you next Christmas 🎄👑
Delightful. Probably best food in Philadelphia. Ignore brunch reviews. This is a dinner spot. Surprised they don’t have a Michelin star. Review is based on half a dozen visits and comparisons to Michelin eateries in Europe. Looking forward to return again.
EXQUISITE. Go for the brunch. This is and will be the absolute best brunch of your life. Choices for days. Every corner a new surprise. Culinary expertise that shows all around. Insane options and just wait for desert. They literally iron the table cloths. The service outstanding. Works around allergies impeccably without the guilt. (They give you a menu notes for you.the presentation and the ambiance. For those who appreciate fine dining without the fussiness. Do this brunch. You will be thrilled.
By far, one of the very best breakfasts, a perfect experience in every aspect. The food was just amazing, from simple little things like croissants and artisanals butter, to the fantastic Lobster and Caviar to the hearty Benedict with Country Ham to the freshest Melon and Berry plate. That, to be honest, did not come to us as surprise, for both the executive chef Cichon to the Chef de Cuisine Eric Leveillee are among the most talented best chef in the North-East, proudly carrying on the glorious culinary tradition of Chef Jean-Marie Lacroix, the father-founder of the fine dining in Philly. The service is impeccable, the dining area is airy and spacious offering the magnificently calming views of the Rittenhouse Square, all of the above are the key secrets to make Lacroixs patrons highly content. We would recommend to opt for the a la carte menu, not that the restaurants breakfast buffet is in any way inferior, but the former will allow you to order a highly prized Lobster and Caviar dish.Very affordable prices for an institution of that caliber and rank.We cant wait to sample Lacroixs Chefs Tasting Menu; hopefully very soon.2 weeks later: totally amazing Chef Erics Tasting Menu! 10 stars out of 5.
Best meal Ive had in Philadelphia. Ive been there a number of times but todays meal was off the charts. Ive eaten in many 4 star places but our waiter this evening was the best Ive ever had. He caught every nuance of the dishes and really seemed to enjoy his role like a true enthusiast. Not inexpensive but worth it.
Incredible lunch. I had grilled ceaser, halibut and a petite carrot cake. All fantastic, but the halibut stole the show! I will also note the amazing service and the perfectly timed delivery of each course. Dont pass up an opportunity to go here!
Honestly just waiting for this restaurant to close and start over. I attended their brunch in the spring and still have not shaken off my experience. While the food presentation is unlike anything in the city, I cannot support a business that treats their own employees in such a belittling manner. I was apart of a bigger group that rented out one of the private spaces and the room was not ready when we arrived. Which was not the problem. It was clear that the front of house staff was doing the best they could. Until one of the managers got involved. It was painful to watch the staffs efforts and concerns for our party to not only be dismissed by their superior but also done in such an aggressive manner. I do not think he saw us watching his conversation with a woman who worked there but as soon as he was finished he approached us trying to take the credit of trying their very best. I have been to a ton of restaurants and a common theme of a successful one is how the staff is treated.
We celebrated our anniversary here and immediately felt as if we were transported to another world of culinary and service excellence. The staff were highly attentive (the ones wholl fold your napkin if you leave your table for longer than 10 seconds), the decor was beautiful
Decent. While the atmosphere and presentation lived up to our expectations (we went to celebrate a special occasion back in January), the food itself felt only okay. I think we only liked one dish out of the whole course menu. As for the rest, either the flavor or texture were off, or it just felt like "I kind of get what the chef was going for, but its not quite there." To anyone to suggest we just dont get French cuisine or modern fusion cuisine, we lived in Tokyo for 8 years, and anyone whos ever been to Japan knows that they worship food (not just Japanese cuisine, but all food, including world cuisines. There is a restaurant/cafe/bar on almost every floor of each building around any given subway station, just around our subway station there were about 500-600 total of various food establishments - from cheap rice bowl type (cheap, but yummy!to authentic Indian, Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Lebanese, Romanian, and much much more. But French cuisine occupies a special place - many Japanese, we found, love it! And the competition in Tokyo between high-end French restaurants is insane. All of this info to make one point - in our 8 years in Tokyo, weve tried enough to become a little more literate about authenticity and quality of food. It is great to have traditionally made authentic dish, it is also great to see chefs experiment with ingredients, flavors, and textures. Lacroix for us did not hit the right spot with either (minus one star), and while the staff was courteous enough when they finally arrived, we did feel forgotten about few times (it was not a busy night, filled to maybe 40-50% of seating capacity), therefore minus one more star, hence a total of three.Edit 2019/07/22Quick response to our review much appreciated. Corrected to four stars.
Had the tasting menu, and the wine pairing tonight. I have to be totally honest here, the food at LaCroix is seriously overrated and shockingly disappointing. One of the courses is actually aloe vera, a gelatin substance which is paired with actual cystallized plants...that you eat. Its terrible. The restaurant should be embarrassed to serve it to their guests. We took 1 bite. Lobster course was chared and overcooked, served on actual twigs, and is 1 bite. A joke! Its ridiculous. A mouth satisfying delight though...was the Wagyu tartar NY strip course. Again, superb, exceptional actually, and the lamb is also quite tasty-it also came paired with a sausage that was actually raw inside-my dates sausage was cooked well done inside-same course, made no sense. Ive eaten at many French restaurants, and the desserts are always to die for. I would give the desert course here a failing grade. Its a joke, and an absolute disappointment-nothing really French about it, at all, one of the 4 logs of dessert was an onion cream log-it was actually an embarrassment to French cuisine. Such a disappointing experience overall-for not only the extremely small portion sizes- different temperatures for the same people in the same meal-for most of what came to the table, but its mostly fair-at best. Now, onto the wine pairings-which were exceptional. The restaurant somalias, and team, have paired the most perfect choices-the wine seriously outshines the food here, in every way, and comes to your table with a rich history lesson. The serving staff is exceptional and knowledgeable. I have had tasting menus with wine pairings at more exceptional restaurants (which actually were exceptionalthan I can count...and this is the worst one Ive ever had the displeasure to dine at. I would never go back here, unless it was to have the wonderful wine-but not the food. I gave it three stars just because the wine. I give the food here 2 stars.
One of the best restaurant in United States, and I do not say this lightly, we are from Paris, live in Manhattan and frequent 2, 3 and 4 Michelin rated restaurants on monthly basis. Take the tasting menu. Unforgettable, period. Staff is impeccable, decor tasteful and the food is Outstanding!! Wine list is also at the level. Could not recommend it with more enthusiasm! Michelin, get this jewel rated ASAP, 2 stars minimum!!!!!
Lacroix offers a beautiful layout, featuring many different menus under the Lacroix name. I came for a Saturday breakfast and was pleasantly pleased by the upscale atmosphere and the foreign guests I sat next too. For breakfast, they start you off with a soft mini croissant with artisan butter that is flaky and perfectly prepared. I moved onto the Benedict from there, and the egg was perfect, the potatoes were crisp, and my coffee was strong. I had a french press at the table that served a blend from La Columbe. There is a beautiful view of Rittenhouse park that will allow you to see the full extent of the area and presents a nice view not too far or high from the pleasant area. It was hard to compare Lacroix to the Brunch at the Parc situated across the street in sight. Though I only visited for breakfast, I would say that the only reason I would choose one over the other would be for the atmosphere or how large of a menu my party needed (Lacroix’s breakfast menu is not too large). It was an excellent breakfast, and I would happily return.
The food was incredible and super tasty. The staff was amicable and made the experience memorable. I have not had such delightful desserts and I would recommend their 5 course meal to experience something new, beautifully decorated, and flavorful. I will definitely return with friends!
My husband and I find the Lacroix and the Rittenhouse Hotel a beautiful setting having wonderful service. The view from the dining room is perfect, looking out on the square with a perfect bottle of wine from a top notch wine list. The dining experience and food is right up there with the best of the best. The attention to detail, from the rooms to the glassware is impeccable. One of our favorite special occasion weekend retreats.
First of all, the absolute best Sunday brunch in Philadelphia. For dinner, they would be a 3 star Michelin restaurant if Philly were Michelin rated. The service is phenomenal, and the creativity and execution of the dishes is impressive. The price point matches the type of cuisine served i.e. caviar, truffles, A5 beef etc. I have been coming for years and never leave disappointed.
Doug is an absolute genius. The corn tasting menu was fabulous. Chefs table with him is 100% worth it. So far Lacroix is my absolute favorite restaurant (better than some of the 1-3 Michelin star restaurants Ive been too). Service is phenomenal!
Very expensive and worth every penny. I came here for brunch on a special occasion with my fiance. Their attention to detail cannot be described as anything other than meticulous. All of the food is fantastic, and their variety is unbeatable. Come expecting to be blown away, and they will exceed your expectations.
I have Had Brunch at La Croix two years straight the last weekend in April a party of 6 in 2017 and this year a party of 8. This is not just a Resturant, it is a dining and culinary experience you must share with family and friends. My wife and friends consider this the highlight of our weekend. This year was more enjoyable than last. 2019 I am sure will be even better. We to a person look forward to returning !Paul M.
The buffet selection was awesome. They give you a thorough tour of the place and even let you walk through the kitchen where more buffet serving stations are located. I went with a group of 13. Half of my group got food poisoning. They are oysters from the raw bar that day. I told the servers from our table how the oysters didnt tastef foul. He said he would go check on it. He walked in the direction of the oyster bar but didnt check at all. He came back with our check and didnt bother to address my complaint.
The brunch at Lacroix is the best I’ve ever been to, hands down. Not only is the quality of the food top notch, flawlessly executed, but you’re also immersed in their innovative combinations and presentations from a group of stellar front of house and back if house team. Cheap? No, but worth every penny....absolutely! I’ve been visiting Lacroix for brunch for 10+ years and have never once been disappointed
This restaurant is located inside the Rittenhouse Hotel in downtown Philadelphia. The hotel itself is very fancy. You go on the elevator and go up to the floor of the restaurant and then you are greeted with a hostess. Everyone is very courteous and very kind. We did the Grand Prix menu with wine list. Each time the gentleman came by to pour a new glass of wine with each meal he gave us a short explanation of why and where it came from. The meal cost about $400 for two people. I was very full at the end of it because it was about a five course meal with moderate portions. It is very private and it feels very exclusive when you’re there. Did not care for the wine selections made for the Grand Prix menu. Chef signs a menu of the food you ate to take home as a souvenir. Also gave us small pieces of candies in a nice box to eat (it was ok). Presentation and service is first class.
Always impeccable at Lacroix! The waiters are so attentive to every need. My wife consistently manages to recreate her entree and the chefs are so cooperative, always exceeding her expectations. Bartenders always know your name and your preferred wine. Totally recommend for a special occasion or just a wonderful dining experience. So excited they are now on the Seated platform!
The service was fantastic, but disappointed in the flavors of most of the courses. We opted for the Chefs menu, each course had extremely small portions, the flavors were very good, but certainly not over the top which is what I was expecting. The women left feeling satisfied, not full, but we had to stop for the men to get sandwiches on the way home. I dont mind the expense, (the old Le Bec Fin was fantastic and I expected this to be on the same level, but there is really no comparison). but I do mind when the food does not match the price. Wont be back!
Everything about this resturaunt was wonderful. The service was prompt and incredibly polite. It was beautifully decorated with a wonderful view of the park. The drinks at the bar were high quality. If you have the money, definitely go for the 8 course tasting option. I tried things Id never had before and it was all beautifully prepared and very delicious. When the staff found out it was our anniversary, they even brought out a small cake congratulating us. I can not go on enough about how wonderful everything was.
