Lacquerware Museum & Institute - Museum in Yenangyaung, Myanmar
Lacquerware Museum & Institute in Yenangyaung
Description
The museum itself is good and is situated in the very centre of San Francisco. However, I found Im not the huge fan of Chinese bowls and Indian statues of Buddha. There are quite a few interesting exhibits such as curved figures or Japanese armor, but all in all it is a museum of lots of similar things. Again, youll love it if you love Asian culture.
MoreYou could easily spend 2 days here admiring the artifacts, presented with illuminating information.
MoreNice depositary of Asian classical art as well as contemporary art. The newer part of the building is showing its age and there is courtyard and outdoor space to take advantage of the location and rooftop. Hopefully the new addition / expansion will add some outdoor space. And the cafe is closed, and there is no good food venue around for a nice stop for food. This museum just feels lacking in amenities.
MoreOnly visited because it was required for one of my college classes. The museum is very clean and tidy, with much to see too. There are three floors and everything is labeled according to regions from Asia, making it easy to identify where you are located. Its great for learning the history behind Asian art. I recommend touring with a friend just so youre not walking by yourself for so long!
MoreI generally love museums. This one is a collection of very old-- and some recent-- beautiful cultural objects and art that hold symbolic meaning for the peoples it originally belonged to. I loved the golden Buddhist sculptures. Definitely worth a very long visit!
MoreThis looks to me more like a history of asian art museum than simply an art museum. Especially the permanent exhibition. I found the exhibition very informative and it allowed me to learn a lot . The temporary presentation is from a modern artist.
MoreBetter than I expected. A great East Asian collection though more limited in other area. A nice animation of ‘going into’ a Chinese painting - brought a style alive that I otherwise find uninteresting
MoreOn the first Sunday of the month, tickets are free for San Francisco residents. a lot of sections of different Asian countries are very informative and interesting, most of the exhibits are from China. The mother-in-law museum looks big, but inside there are few halls where you can enjoy history. we went through all the halls with exhibits in 1.5 hours. they also put up a table with souvenirs at $ 1 dollar at the store, we bought 10 openly for $ 1
MoreThis highly underrated and below the radar, for many, museum has an extensive collection of art from many periods and cultures. Exhibits ranging from the Persian empire, India, Pakistan and other areas of the Far East are displayed across all three floors.I easily spent 2 hours in the wonderful, modern and extensive museum.Go on the 1st Sunday of each summer month and admission is free. Its well worth the price :-)!!
MoreThis place is nice. Elevators are all functioning well. Easy for wheel chair access. Helpful staff to assist you. Organize ticketing booth. Charging port by the cafe on the 2nd floor.
More1000’s of stolen artifacts from Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism! They have idols of religious gods that they “ acquired” from a private collector but fractions of Hindu temple door frames were clearly chipped off and stolen, the statues of gods were clearly ripped out of their respective temples and then placed in these places!
MoreExtremely kind staff and a wonderful collection of Asian pieces, rich with history, too. I visited on a Thursday and had a great experience going through the exhibitions. Just enough people to feel like you’re experiencing the art with a community, while still having space to take in the work and move at your own pace. I have a personal tradition of photographing pieces featuring dogs while at museums, so enjoy one of the cutest dog pieces I’ve seen to date :)
MoreSpent 4 hours in this museum! Absolutely loved it! Worth the money
Great time visiting the Asian Art Museum. They were exhibiting Carlos Villas work. He had been my mentor at SFAI. The curators did an amazing job. Also, I was able to be given a tour by the docent. She was very knowledgeable and friendly.
MoreThis museum is extensive. The collection of art they have spans thousands of years and you can quite honestly stay there for hours and still not be able to get through everything. It’s an awesome curation of Asian and South East Asian art. I loved it and as a museum fanatic you will too.
MoreThis excellent museum houses a comprehensive collection of Asian art in its permanent collection and hosts a variety of temporary, traveling exhibitions, special events, and classes throughout the year. It is free on the first Sunday of each month. I just visited on July 3rd and very much enjoyed my two hours (you are assigned a two-hour visiting timeslot when you register online for the free admission). I viewed the pieces from their permanent collections of Korean, Japanese, Southeastern Asian, Persian and West Asian collections that were on display. And I loved the exhibition on view of Carlos Villa: Worlds in Collision which displayed a number of Villas work as well as Filipino American artists who have followed in his footsteps. I especially liked the TNT Traysikel, which is a roaming art motorcycle-sidecar with built-in karaoke machine. They actually have a karaoke event scheduled where the TNT Traysikel will be used! We are lucky to have this caliber of museum in San Francisco.
MoreAn amazing museum and building; the Chinese jade collection alone rivals anything Ive seen in Beijing or Taipei. The South Asuan collection, especially India, is equally comprehensive
MoreI loved the Asian Art Museum, theres so much to learn and so much to see
SO AMAZING!! My personal favorite museum in SF. There’s such an extensive collection of Asian Art, from Chinese, Korean and Japanese, as well as South East Asian art. The art spans various centuries and are so beautiful! You will definitely spend at least 3-4 hours here. I felt like 2 hours wasn’t enough time to get a good look at the collection. Will come back and explore more for sure! They also had the TeamLab: Continuity exhibit which was such an immersive experience! There were flowery scents to really bring you into the exhibit, and the visual effects were superb.
MoreThis is another treasure of SF! Many great ancient artworks and different types of arts. IMHO, it is better than SFMOMA since you can understand and relate the arts to our life. Highly highly recommend
MoreIncredible collection. We went to the tapestry exhibit which was fascinating, then visited a few other parts of the museum. It would take a long time to see it all! Excellent curation and informative wall text. I particularly enjoyed the video in the Tibetan area about the Wheel of Life
MoreOverall a wonderful experience. You get to see cool art along with great history.
MoreThis was a decent museum, which I didnt bother to rate, as it was totally incomparable to those you find in Europe or Japan. But with Teamlabs Continuity exhibit, it is a spectacular museum. They should have a bigger area devoted to this unique and exquisite immersive digital exhibit from Japan.
MoreGood experience. The continuity immersive was cool but it should have been included with the regular admission. Museum has a lot of great historical artwork.
MoreGreat selection of wonderful art pieces. Some dating from BC and early years AD. I was especially impressed by the selection of Buddha statues.
MoreCame here for the continuity lights exhibit. It was great! There was a room where you can sit on the floor and immerse yourself in the moving lights and soothing music. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
MoreWe attended the absolutely beautiful and mysterious "teamLab: continuity" and it was unforgettable. So easy at first sight, all these colors and music make this experience a true magic. I appreciate the Asian Art Museum team for helping me reschedule the visit and being so nice and patient.I would definitely give the 5 stars if the guard that made us leave the room at 4.57 was a little bit more polite. Its sad that sometimes a rude staff member can change the impression.
MoreVery interesting museum with beautiful art and historical pieces. Very educational experience if you read through the informational placards and start from the India room all the way down.
MoreMy favorite Asian Art Museum on the West Coast! We got free tickets from the San Mateo County Library that offered free passes through their Discover and Go system. This gave us access to the special teamLab exhibit, which was stunning, as well as the regular exhibits. A must when you’re in town!
MoreWe had tix for the Team Lab exhibit. Wow! Its so beautiful. The interactive continuous lights projecting flowers, undersea gardens, butterflies etc. There are slight fragrances wafting through with music. It is a calming art show. With that ticket to the Team Lab exhibit, the permanent exhibits are included.
MoreEXQUISITE !!!Definitely top notch and world class collections in the heart of SF and easily accessible by public transportation or by walking if you’re staying in the city.Excellent building and exhibit layout and its not overwhelming. Prepare to spend about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to really appreciate what it offers.Check out the cafe - it’s a must!!!Museum cafes are known to be grab and go, but this one is different and the other reviews are correct. The museum store looks like a high end boutique and is definitely worth checking out. This is one of the museums you will really enjoy.Update:They have a separate entry special exhibit, “Team Lab Continuity.”
MoreMy friend and I went for the Teamlab Continuity exhibit, and it was definitely worth it! We ended up spending nearly an hour and a half just in that exhibit alone. Its interactive, immersive, and engaging. The music paired with the digital art was great, and it wasnt too stimulating where some people might get nauseous etc. Would recommend! 👍
MoreWe came for the teamLab Continuity exhibit and it was beyond what I could describe in words, truly. It’s an amazing experience, you may feel some weightlessness, I did get a little motion sickness - but that’s on me, I should have taken a break. We were in there for 45 straight minutes, and that was about my personal limit. This does not effect my review, that’s it’s a must see, truly incredible. $15 ticket price
MoreA must go to. Beautifully displayed exhibits of ancient history in the heart of San Francisco.Stairs, elevators, escalators help make it easy to go to the three levels. Handicapped accessible. Restrooms on every floor. Gift shop and food on the first floor. They check for vaccinations. We came on First Sunday Free admission. You can get tickets online.
MoreThere is a lot to see in this place.. I loved my visit.. took 2-3 hours of my day.. the teamlab was awesome.. if you have a student ID. Bring it and save some money!
MoreI saw TeamLab’s immersive experience: Continuity. It is a dive into a moving collage of color- flowers, birds & undersea- partly interactive, always mesmerizing. Plus I did the kids make it yourself, which are sea creatures that are then animated & fed into one section of the show. If you add the permanent collection, the building itself, new additions, fab gift shop, and the cafe youre more than glad you paid the museum a visit.
MoreteamLab:Continuity, step in a dark hall, follow the maze like path into full blossom of flowers or deep ocean of colorful digital images, touch or step on images and watch how you are changing the images. It feels like one becomes a part of new dynamic artistic creation. Fantastic digital interactive art exhibit. The Chanel Miller I was I am I will be exhibit make us feel artists experience and find interpretation in our own life events.
MoreWent for the team labs: Continuity exhibit and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It’s an immersive exhibit of sound and cohesive designs and colors that you have to experience at least once. For $20 a ticket, I would say it’s alright for the price, but it is a little small and lacking when you compare to the original teamlabs in Tokyo (which are phenomenal exhibits and hard to live up to!). If you haven’t been to those, I would definitely try to snag this one while it’s around. You need to soak in every part of the exhibit in its entirety to appreciate what they’ve done (also to really make the most of the ticket), but all in all, it was a nice break from the outside world to explore and feel what the designers intended for us to feel. Good photo opportunities too.
MoreThe San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is a HUGE collection of American,European, Asian countries and Indian art from the impressionist era to present day. And the artists are all there displayed on the walls. Dozens of gallerys over multiple floors.Place was relatively quiet with less crowds in the early afternoon. Very well organized and managed. Well worth the visit.Note ratings below. This was not a tour. Individuals and small groups are free to enjoy the artwork without the need for a tour
MoreEnjoyed the visit very much. However, I feel the museum can acquire more artifacts and expand. I am not sure what they use the big hall on the third floor. It’s been empty for years. I hope they make good use of it.
MoreThis is possibly one of the coolest places I’ve ever visited! From the interactive experiences to just learning more about the Asian culture, there was just so many ways to dive in. There are three stories of artifacts and exhibits to explore and there is always something around the corner!
MoreThis review is for the exhibit TeamLab: Continuity. The magic, colors and interactive activities make this a perfect exhibit for everyone in the family. I was blown away by the detail and beauty of the exhibit. By far, it is my favorite interactive digital exhibit. Don’t miss out on the room in the back where you can lie on the floor while the visuals fly to instrumental music. Also, make sure to take time to color in a sea creature in the Sketch Ocean exhibit before you go in. You may see your creation swimming through the exhibit like I did!I highly recommend the exhibit alone. Plus the ticket is only $25 and includes access to the whole museum which is a wonder in itself!
MoreGot tickets to the teamlab: Continuity it was absolutely beautiful the colors so vibrant. Photo opportunities aplenty. The long fish room was my favorite make sure to interact with the fish and other falling items on the walls its a fun surprise. I highly recommend going and enjoying the amazing talent that created this.
MoreTeamLab is an amazing show that is very easy to like. If you’ve never seen an immersive video room like that you should check it out and give it a little time so you can discover some of the hidden Easter eggs
MoreI came for teamLab: Continuity and I stayed for the art.The highly instagrammable, dazzling interactive exhibit was a little bit less amazing than I expected but was still pretty cool. The museum was crowded but not like fish-in-a-tin crowded. It was very easy to get in. I planned to go a month before actually going so I bought my ticket in advance and just had to give the ticketing person the confirmation number. The teamLab: Continuity exhibit is in a dark room with mirrors and projectors and moving things that can be tapped on. There are various things borrowed from nature including fish, sunflowers, and butterflies, along with more abstract things from the mind like music and wavy lines. The museum has many galleries featuring art from all over Asiat of the art is three dimensional objects but there are also some paintings. The museum has visitor guides available in many languages and even an app to help you plan your visit. If you need a break, you can rest at the cafe, Sunday at the Museum. Theres chips, milk drinks, tea, coffee, salads, and more, along with ample seating, mobile payments, and clean tables. The food isnt actually that expensive and tastes really good. I recommend going for the Korean melon milk drink instead of the peach and lychee flavor like most people would. The cafe is steps away from the lounge which can be accessed by people with a membership. The museum gift shop is called Cha May Ching Museum Boutique. Instead of being in a corner somewhere as an afterthought, its in the center of the first floor and is a full size shop. Theres clothes, postcards, notebooks, towels, candy, and more. It doesnt matter if youre buying something for yourself or someone else; with the vast selection of items, youre guaranteed to find something. In conclusion, visit the Asian Art Museum. You wont regret it. It really does #museumdifferently.
MoreConveniently located on a few public transport lines; generally has a special exhibit.Has a cafe with vegan items noted; not too many items; snacks, meals and beverages (thankfully does not charge extra for vegan milk). The gift shop has a nice selection of a variety of items, from artwork to jewelry to apparel to food.
MoreSo much history! This museum has a great layout. Start on the 3rd floor and work your way down. A fantastic learning experience. Very beautiful artifacts.
MoreThe Asian Art Museum has a nice collection of art and artifacts from Central, South, and East Asia. Many are hundreds or even a thousand years old, so it often feels as much like an archaeology museum as an art museum. The museum doesnt have hands-on or interactive experiences as part of its permanent collection, so young kids (and many adults!are likely to get bored. It has a very good Asian restaurant. The menu is limited, but the prices are reasonable and the food is excellent.
MoreVery extensive collection of Asian pottery, porcelain and art. Everything is displayed well with good lighting. We wanted to go back for a second day but we ran out of time. When we return to San Francisco we’ll definitely come back to the museum. The gift shop was great too.
MoreAwesome visit even with COVID rules (limited capacity, timed entry, face masksin place. Great way to enjoy the museum without a flurry of people around you. Awesome artifacts and very thoughtfully curated if you’re interested in art, culture, history, and the intersection of these throughout Asia. Plenty of street parking in the surrounding areas throughout on Sunday afternoon. There’s also a parking garage nearby with discounted parking with validation.
