La Tana del Polpo - Southern Italian restaurant in Bari, Italy
Great great restaurant with amazing service!! Had a really fun meal in La Tana del Polpo on our trip to Puglia. Ordered the seafood pasta, Squid ink with pistachios and octopus. The waiters were really really friendly, we had an amazing time overall. Would recommend making a reservation as it tends to be full!
Fantastic. High quality food and best service we got in Italy.
This restaurant is overpopular and overrun. The food was good, but nothing spectacular, you can only order the same pasta dish per table. Daily changing fresh fish, fresh muscles, shrimp and oysters. Price is ok. The tiramisu was very small. The people are very nice and friendly but everything is very hectic, the service is literally running from table to table. If you want to have a nice and relaxing evening in Bari, i would recommend somewhere else. If you want to go to some instafamous place, go here.
Outstanding food and service! Nico is super friendly and has a great sense of humour. My wife had their clam and smoked stracciatella pasta dish, which she said is the best pasta dish she has ever had (and we are seasoned travellers in Italy, so that’s saying something). Their grilled whole octopus is outstanding. Portions are huge. House wine is fantastic. All in all truly 5 out 5!
This is the real experience I wanted to get on my Italy trip. Masterpiece. And the staff is on next level of service skills.
The food here is excellent. We had the octopus salad, the spaghetti sea food and the octopus dish. Very delicious. If you want to go there, it would be better to make a reservation because you may end up without a table. Unfortunately we didn’t like the service there. They try to sell you more dishes if you order small stuff. Also if you are trying to enjoy your stay at the restaurant after finishing your meal, they try to get rid of you to have your table for another client. The waiter even asked us if he should bring the bill, we didn’t even ask for it. We didn’t feel really comfortable at this restaurant. And it is also expensive compared to many other restaurants. And I have changed my review from two stars to only one star, because the person who responds here is rude and that’s not how you should treat clients.
Cool place with the best pasta ever. Service is also nice as well. Prices are medium. They include some fees into check, but that could be forgiven for food quality and taste.Mind there might be hard to find a free table in the evening
CHECK YOUR BILLThe food was delicious and the service was great. We asked 4 times for the bill and it took 25 minutes. We were charged 5 euros more compared to the prices on the menu. Don’t know if this was on purpose or not. We complained and they recalculated the bill
The owner of this restaurant is the dirt stain of Bari. Decided to eat here as we walked past and they had just opened for the day at 12:30. We had to leave at 2pm to catch our flight that afternoon. We ordered a starter, main and some wine. Waiter warned us the pasta was going to take 20-25minutes, we were okay with that as I had given us 90 minutes for lunch. We received our starter after 20 minutes (stewed clams and mussels which were deliciousand then waited another 50 minutes without food. I asked the waiter about the pasta, explained to him that we had a flight to catch and if it doesn’t come in the next 5 minutes, we may not have enough time to eat it. Waiter checks in the kitchen, then comes out and notifies the owner, he goes into the kitchen and walks back out. As he walks out, he begins to yell at me and my wife, telling us “Italian food is not fast food and takes time, if we want fast food, go somewhere else”. At this point, everyone is looking at us and we were shocked he would yell at us and make a scene because we asked a question. The worst of it all was, he turns to our neighbouring table and begins to talk about us in Italian which we obviously do not understand. We were completely caught off guard by this disgusting behaviour, to embarrass your customers, especially tourists who drive your economy like this is ridiculous. Fed up, I asked the waiter for the bill and paid for the starter and wine we had and left. I have travelled to many countries and never have I experienced such petulant behaviour directed at a paying customer over a question we asked. Avoid this mess of a restaurant at all costs!
The food was amazing and the staff were super nice. We got lucky and got a table on the street pretty quickly. I am saying lucky because usually there is a queue for dinning. Michele, our waiter, made us feel really welcomed and also made our experience unique.
Like many reviewers had mentioned, service was rushed. But the food was so good it had made up for the service in our experience. The pesto sauce (made with pistachiowith the squid ink spaghetti was very special and tasty. We also had the clam starter which was delicious. We also went for the fish of the day, it was fresh but not as unique as the other dishes.
Tried the classic, however there is no way it is the best. Restaurant del Centros pulpo is much better.
We discovered this place by chances and what a pleasant discivery!Bustling with energy, the ambiance simply reflects the warm southern hospitality and the food quality. As the name suggests, you should NOT dare to leave this place without trying the roasted octopus. Eyes watering lust. The waiting staff is great, and they really give you a friendly treatment.Wide selection of wine, and they even make typical sweets and desserts. Try their "Tetta di mora" and you wont have it anywhere else.A must.
The food was fresh and very good, but unfortunately theres just not enough servers for the number of people. We had one server, who was nice but he was running from place to place and forgetting things because he was alone. Its a bit overpriced as well, so tourist prices. The waiting times are very long, every step of the way.
small reaturant, it was full and we were waiting for 10-15min to get table which is good time, the food is tasty, good service and feeling the old city atmosphere
The squid ink tagliolini make you remember the arroz negro of Spain. While the food was delicious, the waiter did try multiple times to sell us the most expensive fish he had (even after declining). Be careful not to be recognized easily as a tourist. ;However, if youre looking for spot on Italian food, this is the place to go.
Very very good place!! Very good service, seafood is unforgettable! Tutto era deliciziozo!Grazie mille, guys! Youre great!
It was a 2 hours and 15 minutes experience, and the worst in Bari. We waited for 30 minutes to order, the waiter behavied as he ignored us on purpose. We waited for another 30 minutes for the food, and the side dish arrived 20 minutes later. And finally we needed to wait to pay for another 30 minutes. It was a busy night, but not that busy, other guest who arrived later got their order much sooner than us. To summarize: the food was great (5*), the service was terrible (1*), in average I could give 3*,but I am extremely dissapointed and angry.
We visited the restaurant yesterday at night and had a fun experience. The waiter was super nice and friendly, the place had a nice vibe, the food was very tasty. However, I got food poisoning from the spaghetti with clams. I ended up throwing up for three hours in the middle of the night; it was terrible and I wouldn’t wish this feeling for my worst enemy. They really should check if the clams have any viruses or bacteria! I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone in the future and can have a nice dinner here.
Wonderful service, extremely fresh and delicious food (the seafood pasta of the day is a mustand a welcoming atmosphere!
The worst place I’ve been in Bari. Overestimated and overpriced. There’s no option to take 2 different pasta dishes - we had to take the same dish twice. The worst thing that we experienced was restaurant staff. The waiter ignored us for like 30 minutes before giving as a receipt while being really rude during service. They have great localization that probably attracts customers (like it did us- I guess they don’t really care about trying to please the customers though.
Octopus was fine - spaghetti with clams on the other hand completely tasteless.Food is heavily overpriced and absolutely not worth it compared to a lot of competition nearby.Waiter made us wait almost 30 minutes for the check. If you are in Bari and looking for a nice place to eat - rather avoid this one.
Delicious food, and very pleasant, funny and quick service. Recommend to visit.
Heard the food was good. Unfortunately haven’t been allowed to try. Service is terrible. We sat at 2 people table with pram (child asleepand the waiter came to tell us there will be better bigger table for us somewhere else. I did say the baby is asleep and can place pram on a side but he insisted to remove us. Took us to other restaurant section and said to wait 10 min. That’s fine but than the guy didn’t want to seat us. He was making excuses that the pram would take too much space even at the bigger table. We would normally squeeze it in a way not to disturb anyone. They are crowded and clearly forgot what a good service is.
Amazing food and really nice staff! I recommend the octopus salad and pasta with a catch of the day (can be shared between two people). Everything was extremely tasty! 10/10Also thumbs up for handmade plates!
This restaurant was so good we went there twice! Fresh pasta and fish dishes to die for, everything we tried was fresh and amazing + the prices are very reasonable. Service was great, fast, friendly and efficient. They make the best tiramisu in Bari too! Dont miss it :)
Beside delicious food I must highlight a highly unprofessional handling by servants. They push guest by many times to buy more. They force guest to leave as soon as they finish with their last swallow. This is really rude and beside tasty food they serve I will not come there anymore. Overall, I dont recommend this place
The worst gastronomic experience of my life.As an starter we had octopus on a salad which was delicious - but that was first and last good thing in this restaurant! Next course was pasta with sepia ink with pistacios and shrimp. I’ve never eaten worst food of my life. The waiter saw that we didn’t finish and that we were waiting for him to take away our food- he ignored us like for 20minutes until I called him to come and take it away. He was absolutely not interested in the fact that we barely touched our food. He didn’t ask if we liked the food or if there is some problem. He knew! So he basicaly just took plates and quickly ran away. After he brought us payment terminal he didn’t even wait for the paiment just put the terminal on the tabel a go talking to another waiter and waiting us to leave. He was totally unprofessional and tried to avoided any confrontation about food quality. In the end we weren’t the only one who ordered this pasta and was dissatisfied. I have never give bad review but in this case I have no other choise! I am sorry..Ps:Answer to owner: none of us finish our pasta dishes- that’s total lie! We finished only octopus which was, as I already wrote, delicious. I am even more disappointed due to your reaction. Instead of accepting a mistake and saying simple “we are sorry”, you’re writing me that I have problem with myself. I am done with your restaurant - hopefully you will learn from your mistake and stop blame customers for your mistake one day.Have a nice day..
The food and the service were great! The price a bit high, especially for the pasta.
Super authentic place specialised in seafood and pasta. You need to go early if you don’t have a reservation. Let the waitress guide you on the fish.
I do not recommend this restaurant.Food was okay but expensive. There are many other restaurants which are way more cheep and delicious. The waiter was asking to order same kind of pasta. And he was not polite. We wanted to eat two other dish but it was impossible. He asked for tips.He recommended expensive dishes. The worst restaurant which I visited in Bari.
The best restaurant in Bari. I have been there three times, the first time two years ago, the level unchanged. Excellent. Waiter Marco, Chef, Mr. and Mrs. Boss are a perfectly working machine. In this place you will eat great food in a family and cheerful atmosphere. Gamberri rossi is absolutely the discovery of this trip. You will not be disappointed. Best pasta ever.
The quality of food in the restaurant is very admirable. Service was also wonderful. My best dining experience in Bari. The seafood pasta was mind blowing!
We followed the waiters recommendations and loved everything we had. Pasta with seafood was mind blowing. This place was recommended to us by our Italian friends, we could see why. Top restaurant in this city.
A Fantastic seafood restaurant with good service.Everything was amazing, and I especially liked the fresh local oysters.By the way even the simple olives where generous and tasty
Our host Simone is fantastic and handsome guy! He was so professional offered us the best of the menu, explained everything that we wanted to know, treated us as special guests and we felt really appreciated and welcomed! The food is heavenly good! We had seafood, shrimps, octopus, spaghetti frutti di mare and Scorpio fish! Everything was so delicious and the presentation was fantastic!Highly recommend this place! All the best from Bulgaria!
Great seafood choice in Bari! 👍🏻👍🏻 Bravi a tutti, specialmente ai cuochi. High quality ingredients and big portions of pasta Fresca. I would recommend to book and to be aware that the service is very spontaneous and hasty
The best shrims I ever eat fresh teasty and flavor. Waiter its very helpful and tell what is the menu and what speciality for today the best for us. Price its not to big like a fresh seafood. Thanks guys
Wow, just exquisite, the food, the service the friendliness. They brought the freah fish and showed us the suggestion of the day, and the pasta tasted like heaven! We loved it ao much and will come again if we have rhe chance or are in Bari anytime again, thanks guys for the experience!
Fantastic place! Top sea food in Bari. Gamberi rossi to dream of! Octopus salad - amazing! Have some fresh fish as they will recommend you. Make sure to book ahead! Its very busy!
Nice restaurant and good food as well that we had here. You should make a reservation as it does get crowded for dinner. The only negative part of the meal was that we felt rushed and that is not normal for Europe it is more what we expect in the US. When we asked about dessert and coffee we could see the server get visibly upset and argued in Italian with her coworker about it.
Kapitalny kelner! Prawie aktor! Jedzenie podane bardzo szybko było bardzo smaczne!I always thought that my favorite prawns, but the calamari in this restaurant tasted so delicious that I gave it to my…. Delicious, fresh, exactly what I dreamed of going to Bari. Huge portion of fries. And entrecote salad. Only vegetables a little bit unsealed and cool. I rarely leave food, especially so delicious, but we couldnt eat it. The buzz, the owner or the manager accepting orders in several languages at the same time complete the Italian character of this place. Make sure to make reservations. Somehow we managed to get the last free table, the next people had to wait about an hour. And its worth it!
Stuffed mussels with homemade tomato souse for starter. According to our waiter, Simon, it is a typical Bari dish. We followed with Steamed Lobster covered with Mediterranean style vegetables and Grilled Octopus. Simon recommended steamed method, it was the best choice for such fresh lobster. One lobster was cut in half and fully covered by vegetables when served on the table(I could barely see lobster tail when came to the table). Every bite I could feel the sea and the essence of vegetables. Octopus was also delicious, nicely grilled, a great contrast with steamed lobster. Service was wonderful, Simon was very kind and he understand dishes! 5 stars to him and the chief for sure! It is worth of a reservation!
Food is amazing, highly recommend booking in advance unless you want to wait till 10pm for your dinner. Old fashion Italian food and fresh seafood, worth the wait!
Fresh is key here. Your will have a fantastic meal. Grilled octopus and the raw fish dishes are excellent. If there was a 6 star rating, theyd get it.
Great service and food. Delicious fresh fish and perfect starters. The waiter spoke English fluently and its not very common there. The best sea food I have eaten in Bari.
Exquisite seafood from the cosiest restaurant in Bari vecchia. Must try the lobster past and pistacchio pasta! Staff is super friendly and attentive. Make sure you go before feeling super hungry as you might wait, the host passes numbers to wait, but take advantage of the waiting time to stroll around the old town. This is an experience you must live!
Just delicious. The grilled octopus and the catch of the day were wonderful, flavorful and well prepared, but the star of the show were the prawns. Rich, juicy, melt-in-the-mouth delicious. Paired with the house white wine...heaven. Id also highly recommend trying the house amaro after the meal!Heads up, long wait times(because delicious), so make a reservation first thing and then go relax in the piazza with a beer till theyre ready for you.
Went here based on Google ratings and was not disappointed. We found a table without making a reservation, even if the place only has about 6 tables inside and 3-4 outside. It has a very rustic, tavern-like atmosphere. Staff is friendly and speaks multiple languages. The waiter was very helpful offering recommendations. The menu is mainly based on seafood, but it also has some non-seafood options. The food we ordered was served fast, the portions were big. We (2 personsordered 1 entrée and 2 main courses, but we could have easily had just 1 entrée + 1 course to share. I recommend the ink squid taglialini with shrimp and pistachio (their speciality), it was excellent.
Wonderful place run by Italians. Perfect to try delicious fresh seafood and homemade wine. During our stay we were here twice. The service was amazing, kind and helpful. Before the order they showed us the plate or fresh fish recommended for the day. Amazing! 😍The food was great and fresh, perfect. I loved tuna and salmon carpaccio, grilled octopus was very good and mussels in white wine. Pasta was good, not the best I have ate but the climate off the place and hospitality is more important for me: If I come to Bari again I will definitely go to visit the place. Best regards for the staff❤️
