Portions tiny for the price, food very low quality (mackerel tasted like it was from a tin, salad not fresh, meatballs had a weird curry sauce). Also watch out for wine, they force you to have the most expensive types. Massive tourist trap!

The best small hidden gem we visited in Malaga. The place is called El Descorche De Cervantes now and serves local wine and spanish food only. The service was excellent as was the food and the wine. The place is stylish, cosy with a very welcoming atmosphere.

The food tastes quite fine. That having said, Id like to point out exactly how horrible this place is. From the moment you walk in, the waitresses try their utmost best to instill in you the idea that youre just one of the hundreds of tourists that pass by the place every day. They barely look at you when they talk, try to get you to pick their food choices and obviously have to objective to get you out of the restaurant as fast as possible. Then the worst thing. My travel partner and I both got food poisoning after eating here. We went back to the restaurant the next evening to just INFORM them of this. We werent planning on asking for any refund, whatsoever. And, magically, the moment we dropped the word sick, the waitress who spoke perfect English until then, suddenly didnt understand us anymore. With the head waitress, it was exactly the same. Only when we translated inferma she started saying (in, again, perfect Englishthat such a thing was impossible, that we surely had the flu or something, as if we werent able to recognize food poisoning. She subsequently didnt let us finish our sentences, and over our heads started talking to next customers walking in the door. So, if you care the tiniest bit about spending money on people that are decent and honest, instead of on malicious and moneygrabbing tourist scammers, go to one of the many other great places Malaga has to offer. If you dont mind all this, would like to have some food that is most likely fairly tasty, with a slight chance of being poisoned, go and have a seat at La Taberna de Cervantes.

What a little gem this place is.We were recommended to try this place while we were in Malaga & so glad we did. The staff were all very helpful & friendly, despite being very busy, and the food was delicious.Would definitely recommend booking a table here & we will return should we ever be back in Malaga.

Food was good, but service was a bit pushy. This is just not my kind of place, maybe too fancy / touristic. Locals are nowhere to be seen here.

The food was allright, but at the end of the evening we had an unfortunate experience in this restaurant. We ordered a 15E wine, but on the bill it said another wine that was 33E. We tried to tell them there was a mistake made, but then they blamed us for not paying attention when the wine was served. The waitress started yelling at us. Eventually the manager came and tried to make us feel guilty, because she said that because of this mistake the waitress made she would have to fire her. All very crazy. After 45 min of arguing, in Spanish half of the time while we didnt understand it, they gave us a new bill with the 15E wine.

So good! We tried to get into the sister restaurant opposite but were turned away - but then our guardian angel from here came and rescued us and got us a table straight away. Our waitress was great and recommended the wine which was amazing and exactly what we like. Top menu recommendation is the anchovies in vinegar with guacamole & passionfruit - never had anything like it - incredible!Also.. dont go to the touristy restaurants on the square if you cant get into el pimpi. They look good, but are terrible.

Absolutely fantastic food and tapas. We stumbled upon this restaurant trying to get away from the busy tourist restaurants and what a treat it was. Waitress was incredibly helpful and great fun. She made the experience even better. Highly recommend having a higher class meal and tasting some perfect 5* food. Will definitely visit again ❤️ thankyou xxx

Best food experience so far in Malaga. Great service and friendly staff make your dining experience very enjoyable. Great selection of tapas in three size portions (as a rule). Food was delicious and very well presented and for the price you couldnt ask for more. Thank you for a great evening.

Planned to go to the Inn Cervantes across the road. It was ful but told the tavern was the same owners. Very enjoyable meal, entrecote was tasty, iberica ham was great, sardines was okay, everything else was as expected. Service and vibe was lovely, definit worth the visit without the wait at the Inn!

Amazing tapas and smaller plates, our group of 5 tried most things on the menu and (with the exception of the lamb chopswas fantastic. Especially liked the octopus and the pork cheek. Wine was nice and surprisingly cheap. Friendly service too. Try their vermouth from the barrel. Only downside was that it was very hot inside.

An excellent traditional Spanish restaurant serving good food. We booked through "The Fork" app & were pleased we did as the place was packed but our table was available immediately which was a good start. The meal was very enjoyable, I had the prawns for starters & my wife had black pudding with quails eggs & for main wild boar stew & baby lamb chops which were nice but the chops were fatty, but all considered recommended & the price reflected the quality of the food & wine.

Don’t leave without ordering the famous Malagan Sweet wine (Vino de Malaga). Our server was super nice and offered us 3 shot sized tastings after we ordered every tapa item on one page.

Another fab place to goWe went at lunchtime and it was nice and quiet. Good choice on the menu, we shared a starter and ordered a main each and then shared each others, which was good way to do it. Spot on food, good presentation and a good choice of wine to go with it. Good size portions

The staff here are really kind, attentive and lovely. The food has flavour, texture and is clearly made with love at very agreeable prices.Unlike Bodega Pimpi which is well up its own backside on price and attitude. Only 4 minutes away by the way.

Waitress wanted to offer a shared platter for us however we decided to have separate menu as we have pregnant lady and vegetarian in our group. So the waitress went away for quite a long time until she came back to take our order. And it turned out tapas is not available if we are not sitting at the bar. She could have told us when she brought us the menu. Because this changed what we wanted to order. The dish arrived fast, then some most simple things like ham took very long, grilled vegetable came the last when we finished all other food and waited for half hour just for grilled mushroom and vegetables. Surprisingly it was a wrong order, but she insisted that we ordered wrong dish, not that she made mistake. However if we want the correct dish we could order again. Yea sure, if we have time to wait for another hour, maybe I would consider that. Homemade meatball took super long time to arrive but made it before grilled vegetables, if not that they were super salty, otherwise all was good. Overall an unfriendly experience and I would not recommend it to any of my friends.

They messed our order up and then aggressively blamed us for it. Unfortunately you cannot order tapas in the restaurant, only half size portions, even though tapas are on the menu. Food was decent, but experience unpleasant.

This place turned into an expensive tourist trap. Just a few reminders if you do decide to eat at de Cervantes:Do not order wine or food advised by the staff, it’s going to be very expensive.Remind them that burned food should not end up at the table and certainly not at your bill.If you have issues with your bill, be persistant. They are happy to ignore you for some time.In general, in Malaga you will find honoust and authentic food and service. Sad to see that a place like this exists here.

The service was slow, as it took nearly 40 minutes for a waiter to come take our order on a relatively non crowded night. After that our portions arrived swiftly. The food was tasty, yet in my opinion slightly overpriced.

Initially we wanted to go to El Tapeo de Cervantes, but it was fully booked and we did not make a reservation. The waiter told us to go to the same restaurant around the corner where they could accomodate a bigger group. We were so happy that he advised us to go here! The service was excellent, we did not know what to order so they recommended us to share some dishes which tasted great! I can recommend the smoked anchovies, seared tuna and grilled veal!

Everything was just perfect! We started out going to el tapeo de cervantes, but there were no seats. The owner personally guided us to this resturant, which he also owns. We regret nothing. We got a lot of tapas/half portions, and everything tasted very well, both for eyes and mouth. Waiters were very sweet too. They can speak english, and now what they are serving. They can also recommend stuff from the menu. And the price is very good for the quality you get. A must eat ay malaga

We had a very lovely and convivial meal here with our family, and greatly enjoyed both the excellent food and the friendly and home-style service. The owners and staff made us feel like a part of the family, and the room was very pleasant, and while lively, not so noisy that conversation was difficult or unpleasant.Several dishes are worthy of note. On the menu:The anchovies. OK, I know that Malagans call themselves "Boquerones" since the anchovy is such a local standard, but this dish takes the local essence, and raises it to what I would consider an international standard. To provide the fat to counter the tart fish, most places will use an olive oil, which depends entirely on the quality of the purchased product. Here, the chef used a delicious pate of avocado, and the fish is finished with grains of fluer de sel. The balance was perfect, and the touch of avocado was appreciated by this group of Californians. The lamb chops, with the mint aeoli are not to be missed. The morciilla with quails eggs is simply prepared, and the chef chose a very mild, but well balanced sausage which is complimented by the richness of the egg yolks. The chef offered a "Tartar of Salmon", which was delicious, though from our New World perspective, we would understand this as a Ceviche. Not that Tartar is inaccurate, but this was a vinegar and citrus marinaded salmon, with finely chopped shallots, some capers and more of the avocado puree found with the anchovies. This deserves a permanent place on the menu.Desserts are not to be missed, particularly the fig flan. Served with two generous dolops of whipped cream, it was the standout, though the dulce de leche crepe and warm apple crumble were very nice as well.I understand from the owners that this is a new location for them, and that their more famous and established store around the corner has the same menu, though with a different staff. Given that, this is particularly impressive, since in our experience it can take several months to get a new location functioning to the same standard as an original .In any event, we highly recommend La Taberna de Cervantes as a new place not to be missed in this rapidly developing culinary Mecca of Malaga.

Just ok, not nearly as excellent as the Meson de Cervantes located across the street (same owner, different chef). Staff remains friendly though. Both our steak and porc dishes were unfortunately overcooked and dry, even though we asked for medium rare steak and the waiter-recommended pink for the pork.
