Cozy atmosphere for homestyle Italian dishes paired with selections from the wine bar.
Wonderful food. Went with a party of four and tried two appetizers, four mains and a dessert. Every dish was wonderful! The wine list is also robust. Best Italian food experience I have had in a long time!
Really good Italian food, wonderful staff and a great wine selection. The serving sizes were quite large...I had to bring some home in a doggie box and it made an amazing midnight snack.Ambiance was relaxing and calssy. There is no dress code, but most everyone was well dressed.I would say definitely make a reservation, as they were very busy.
This Italian restaurant on Kauai is a must- the food is amazing...so delicious and the staff are wonderful. My husband and I shared several dishes including the spaghetti and clams and the veal scallopine and we couldnt get enough! A must on your visit to this island!
Top notch in every way! La Spezia ended up being our favorite place on the whole trip. Everything is homemade, service is so friendly and it was so incredible we kept coming back and always left feeling more and more impressed. You can’t go wrong here!
Great food, staff a bit stiff. Ambiance is quaint.
I don’t think I’ve ever experienced worse service. First, when our 7 person party was seated promptly at the time of our reservation (8:15 PM), we were told by our waiter that we had to immediately order all of our drinks, appetizers, and entrees. We had no time to look over the menu and discuss amongst ourselves. Our waiter made us feel very rushed and uncomfortable initially. Then, as some people in my party were attempting to order while respecting their religious restrictions, our waiter intensely questioned why they wanted to make a substitution. He replied “No” in a very short manner when another person in my party asked to substitute a different protein in a dish, again for religious reasons. I’m not a chef by any means, but I’m certain that the chef working at this type of restaurant is capable of simply trading out the protein that is just sitting on a bed of noodles. Our waiter was unwilling to provide other options on the menu that would be accommodating to our table. While we had a good time together despite the absolutely atrocious service and mediocre food, I would not go back here and would not recommend, especially if your group has any dietary restrictions as the restaurant obviously has a culture of not respecting their paying customers.
We had a very enjoyable experience dining here. Make sure you get a reservation, we saw many people turned away. We got tortellini as an appetizer, fettuccine calabrese and lasagna for main courses, and salted caramel panna cotta for desert. Everything tasted fantastic, and our waiter was very personable and attentive.
I had ordered the Lasagna. When I got my plate it was only cheese and sauce in a mound. There were no layers of pasta. There was a customer at the next table that also had Lasagna and his looked like a normal layered Lasagna. When I spoke with our server about it he just said this is the same recipe always used. Regardless I was quite disappointed with my meal. We go here a couple times a month and this has been the only time I was disappointed with my meal. Lasagna is a signature dish for an Italian restaurant but this time fell short for sure.
Fantastic meal. Cream sauce on the mushroom tortellini was particularly amazing. Should we ever find ourselves on the south side of Kauai in the future we will dine here again for sure.
Delicious Italian food! I love Italian food, even on an island. We came to Kauai on a family vacation with two other couples. We were able to get a reservation at La Spezia and we are so glad we did! The food is delicious and authentic! Don’t forget dessert because the panna cotta is to die for! I would definitely recommend!
It was okay italian. I think for the prices, it’s not worth the money and better to skip than go. The meat bolognese sauce tasted burnt and older than fresh that day. Didn’t take like Bolognese at at all.Server was incredible though and he did an excellent job. CoOwner was also hostess and she was a little rude to customers on the phone walking around the restaurant.
Delicious wine, focaccia, Caesar salad, and entrees. Super nice folks. Highly recommended.
Enjoyed our dinner at La Spezia. We ordered salads, the lasagna bolognese and spaghetti with spicy meatballs. Large portions and all super flavorful. The tiramisu & wine were also delicious.Reservations recommended - it’s a small spot that gets busy!
Food was wonderful. The Mozeralla Fresca appetizer was perfect. They are understaffed (as is everonebut the staff hustled and had a great attitude. Highly reccomended.
Visiting Kauai on our honeymoon from NYC. We wanted to switch up our dinners from the bottomless ahi tuna and mahi mahi we were eating and couldn’t be more glad that we did. Everything from the wait staff to the food was fabulous/delicious. Are expeditions were low coming from an Italian family and the amount of Italian restaurants we are usually surrounded by in a big city but the food surpassed a majority of the Italian spots we frequent in NYC. If you are looking for something other than the typical island food you must stop here. Great prices and good portions it’s a must if you can fit it in during your stay to his beautiful island❤️
We so happily found this GREAT Italian restaurant this evening. We read the reviews from past patrons but were somewhat skeptical that it was as good as reported. NO we were wrong! It was way better than a 5 star rating! The staff, especially Rebecca and Eric, were outstanding. The food was so delicious. The restaurant is quant and very welcoming. It is definitely a repeater and we will highly recommend this place to everyone. We had a memorable and wonderful experience dining at La Spetia.Kind regards , Paul & Edna, San Diego
Our best Dining experience on Kauai. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. Our Waiter was (over the topexcellent. He had a great sense of humor. We watched how he treated every table he was serving like they were his only customers. It was amazing to see how many tables he served, flawlessly. The food was great and priced very fairly. Dont miss this one! Make reservations early on your trip. We have reservations for Brunch on Sunday. Cant wait.
Last evening my husband and I had a reservation at this restaurant. We arrived early. We were seated 5 minutes after our reservation time. No big deal until it was a big deal.We were told by the waiter it would be 20 minutes to get a glass of wine because that is the way it is and won’t change. Should have given us our clue this could be a tough night. We asked for a substitution of penne pasta with my spouses meal because he can not digest spaghetti. Mind you they had Zucchini noodles to accommodate vegan. We explained why due to medical necessity.Waiter reluctantly went to kitchen and we were told it can not be substituted. We told the waiter if that could not work before he asked the kitchen we would have to leave. So we left. Keep in mind we are now walking out of this restaurant at 8:54 p.m. and there are no other restaurants open in the area to serve you past 9 p.m.We have had great hospitality all over this island but not here. The thing that really disturbed me is this family is from Italy and I am Italian. I have never known a restaurateur especially of Italian heritage to treat customers this way.You lost out on a meal, your waiter lost what could have been a great tip and two very upset customers who made a legitimate request due to a health issue.I usually would not post such a review but when you are asked for a medical accommodation and not told at the time of making the reservation about no substitutions for an 8:30 p.m. reservation. You had penne pasta on your menu it is just ridiculous.
Book a reservation on their website. They had to turn a lot of people away who didnt have a reservation. The menu is small, but everything we had was very good. Excellent wine and beer selection. Unique cocktails.Excellent service!
The most amazing Italian dining experience on Kauai, hands down.
Awesome dinner in Kauai! Our server who was also the bartender was friendly and prompt. Drinks and food were delicious and portions were definitely on the large side. I got the eggplant parmesan and it came with a huge portion of spaghetti with yummy arabiatta sauce and came out piping hot which I appreciate. Everyone from hostess to servers were great.
Here’s my consensus:The food was pretty tasty, but the service was meh. Our server, although very friendly, didn’t really know what to recommend, and refills were way too difficult to get. I had to ask every time when I needed one, and had to remind them a couple times. I would recommend the food, but I’d say takeout would be your best bet, especially if you’re considering this place for a special occasion.
The best dinning for outstanding home made Italian dishes. Put this place on your list, only dinner and Saturday Sunday brunch.
After a day of enjoying the beautiful snorkeling beachside of poipu beach and seeing monk seals / sea turtles… I encountered something at this restaurant that not even Jurassic park included when filmed on kauai. We found the grumpasorus Rex - aka the hostess with the mostest attitude. This rare creature had the ability to turn into the Dracula of all thing happy and drain my aloha. If you want to experience the opposite of what is the Hawaiian experience of positivity and joy - be my guest and go to this restaurant.Make sure you finish with your table on time… or she will transform into a new species.Aloha….
Where to begin… First, the waiter and hostess were both INCREDIBLY rude, and acted like they wanted you out of there as fast as possible. We asked the hostess if she could get a bottle of wine(our waiter was either extremely busy or ignoring usand she said “no, that’s not my job, your server will get It”(which he never did, we finally had to get a third waiter). Second, they brought out our appetizers AND salads before we even got our drinks!! Food was decent but again, staff was extremely unpleasant! My advice is to order take out if your craving Italian in Kauai. SERIOUSLY AVOID!!!
We have had a host of wonderful meals while in Kauai. This is right at the top of the list of best meals. If it had beachfront real estate it would be listed as a top 5 restaurant.Manhattan version (Milanohattanwas on point. Tattinger champagne was served cold, crisp and delicious. Antipasto for 2 served four hungry people and was a litany of scrumptious meats, cheeses and pickled loveliness. Bolognese, gnocchi special, fried zucchini and short rib raviolis all brought grins and cheers! Staff was attentive, but not overbearing.Prego! Ciao!
Our favorite eatery. We eat there often. Beat Italian food unless you’re in Italy. HOWEVER dinner on March 10 was so disappointing ☹️. ordered our favorite flatbread. not as flavorful as previous times. My absolute favorites lasagna bolognese and oxtail pappardelle were served luke warm. some of the pappardelle were actually cold. So we stopped eating, plates were removed and a 2nd serving was brought to our table. Once again, food was luke warm. We decided to eat it. Panna cotta was yummy. Ciao Bella was so so watery and no taste. it’ll be a while until we return.
Some of the best Italian food I’ve ever had. Everything was amazing. Traditional drink menu, too. Pasta is crazy good.Too many reg bro-bros at the bar, though. Have a feeling they’re buddies with someone who works there. Only unfitting thing about this place. Without the douchebagery, I’d def make this a frequent stop.Excellent menu, excellent food, excellent staff.
You must go here. This was one of the best restaurant experiences we had on the island. We didnt have a reso but were lucky enough someone no showed and we got in. Really nice staff, very accommodating and not uptight. This may be the best Italian food Ive had. I let the waiter pick whatever was the best and it was so amazing! Hi Fashioned drink excellent, bottle of Italian red excellent...Prices are very good: cocktails /wine /food was all cheaper then other good restaurants weve been to.Atmosphere is really nice. Smaller space which made it feel very comfortable. May go back to try brunch before we leave... But will book a reso this time :)
“It’s fine. That’s it. Nothing wrong with that … don’t you dare settle for fine.”Definitely a “fine” restaurant. Portions are extremely small, food tasted great. It’s a bit expensive for the quality and quantity. I was also pretty disappointed in the customer service. I’m glad we experienced this but I wouldn’t come back. Once was enough for me. Not a true “breakfast” joint.
Wonderful atmosphere and service. Authentic, delicious Italian food and extensive wine selection. Almost hate to spread the word about this little gem...
Absolutely wonderful food at La Spezia. You gotta go there for the Sunday Brunch, theyve got the best ever Eggs Benedict. I personally got the Benny Italiano and it was amazing!Eggs cooked perfectly, excellent sauce taste, crispy English muffins, and great presentation. My wife got the eggs pepper and sausage meal, and enjoyed it a lot as well.Would 100% recommend this place, the prices are great as well. Will go again if we get the chance.
This is a cozy, inviting, upscale Italian spot nestled in a little strip mall of restaurants and shops. The food was what you would hope for; classic hearty fare, well made with fresh ingredients and great flavors. They have a substantial wine list and some great cocktail as well. It is also worth noting that the prices were more than reasonable compared to most places on the island. We will definitely be back.
Great breakfast on the weekend. Delicious Bloody Mary to go with the Eggs Benedict.
Fantastic dinning experience! My wife and I visited for our 16th wedding anniversary while vacationing in Poipu Beach. All the food was great! We started with cesear salad, then gnocchi, tortellini, fried zucchini slices, and finished with the seared ahi tuna over eggplant paired with a nice bottle of Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico 2018.
This place can be very busy so make sure to make reservations early! Its located right along the shopping strip in Koloa so there should be plenty of parking in the evening. The food is delicious and the wine pairs well with all the pasta! Highly recommended for a special occasion!
One of the best surprises on island!!! We were walk-in diners and sat almost immediately - great hostess and great wait staff!!
Best meal we had during our 2 weeks on the island. Excellent service. Lovely ambiance - darker, fun classic rock music. Incredible flavor.Fried zucchini - must order. Large portion for $8Spicy meatballs - excellentPasta dishes - MASSIVE food/price ratio. Our dish could have fed 4 adults probably, see photos. That is not to diminish how delicious it tasted. Unbelievable value.Tiramisu - must order. Moist, sweet, creamy, amazing. It almost brings tears to my eyes finding La Spezia after eating so much mediocre food on Kauai. I’m very happy they have made it through covid. Best of wishes moving forward, my greatest compliments to the chef and their team.
This was delicious. Very authentic Italian food - dishes were large portions and excellent. So much flavor and at an affordable price too! Only disappointment was they had no sweet white wine, no moscato or anything like it - so for a sweet wine drinker like me I was stuck drinking water (but this was due to Covid making shipments limited/difficult). Fair prices, and amazing dessert.
Host was quick to seat me and provide coffee with a smile. Super friendly service with often check ups and coffee refills. I had the Oxtail Fried Rice and Eggs for breakfast which is to die for. Generous serving of meat is a big plus.I cant wait to come back for breakfast when I am in Koloa again.
Great restaurant 👍. We had dinner here one night saw the breakfast menu and came back! Everything was delicious, for dinner we had the fettuccine caprese, for breakfast we had blueberry french toast and eggs Benedict. The restaurant is super cute, Italian themed. Highly recommended!
The best Italian food I have eaten in the islands. The wine list is fairly extensive considering the remoteness of Kauai. The food is well crafted and delicious, meatballs are clearly made there. The sauces also taste like fresh made. The antipasti platter is fantastic, the meat is shaved impossibly thin so it can truly be savored. I highly recommend a visit if you need a break from the island food scene.
No compromise for aesthetics, quality or service. The restaurant itself is charming and warm. Nice ambiance. Fresh menu. Great drinks. Will definitely come back the next time Im in Kauai!
Had a lovely dinner in a nice ambience. It was quite busy but we were there before 6pm and managed to get a table for two. The food was really good and the service, too.
Spectacularly good Italian at this little outpost near the beach at Koloa. Spaghetti arrabbiata and buccatini Amatriciana were major standouts. Wonderful kale Caesar salad. Everything is fresh fresh fresh and tastes like it. Service was excellent. Extensive wine list, and extremely reasonably priced both by the glass and by the bottle. If youre staying down at Poipu, do yourself a favor and taxi up to La Spezia for an authentic, great-value dinner. No reservations, so be prepared to wait if youre not there right at 5 pm.
Fabulous place for breakfast and dinner! I have never been disappointed with the food. Service is top notch!! Quite a fan of the Bacon Bree French toast! The egg Benedict is hands down my favorite Benny on the island . Best selection of authentic itilain liquors of any restaurant on kauai as well. Sunday brunch also offers a bloody mart bar with a wide selection of delicious add in/ons
A special Italian restaurant in Koloa. Special cocktails were excellent....Ciao Bella and Sicilian Storm. Would love to have another right now. We shared the house salad and tomato basil soup... Both excellent. There first entree was spaghetti Bolognese with added spicy meatballs... Definitely a good addition. The other entree was real scaloppini. No disappointments. Service was superb. We would have as dessert, but there was no tiramisu nor canollis!
Fantastic experience here. Upon walking in we could tell this place would be good. Short wait on the lanai well worth it. Fresh bread with delightful olive oil. We had the cheese for the appetizer and the onions that come with it have the most unique flavor Ive ever experienced with onions. Trust me, get them. The pasta was on point and both the spaghetti in bolognese and the linguine were some of the best weve had. And I hear this place is even better for breakfast. Its a must-try!
The atmosphere in this place was amazing. We went right as they opened for dinner because we had flights to leave that night and head home. My friend had one of the specials for that night and a glass of wine. We split the antipasti board (not only was it incredibly delicious - the waitress - explained everything on the platter which was amazing). And I had the tortellini for that night as well. Everything was just a perfect way to end the trip to Kauai. Thank you to the lovely staff!
Italian food with flare. The steak was amazing. The catch of the day was good. The chicken was a bit undercooked for our liking but besides that it was good. The waitress was quite nice as well.
