Off Interstate 70, this unassuming budget hotel is 8 minutes' walk from Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park and a 10-minute walk from Glenwood Springs train station. The warm rooms have free Internet access and flat-screen TVs, as well as minifridges, microwaves and coffeemakers. Suites feature separate living rooms and kitchenettes.Breakfast and parking are complimentary. Other amenities include a bar, a gym, an indoor pool and a hot tub.
I have to say, I normally stay at Marriott hotels. We ended up at LaQuinta by default. They are in the middle of remodeling, which is well deserved. The thing I like most is the customer service. They were beyond accommodating with my requests. Im in town for work and I work night shift. They had their workers come to my room first for service so they wouldnt interrupt me while I was sleeping. I really appreciate that. Its the little things!
The exterior of the hotel was under massive renovation with little effort to keep construction equipment and debris clean or out of guest view. Our first room had a massive cockroach crawling on the wall above the bed headboard. We called the front desk and asked for a different room which they thankfully were willing to accommodate. The employee tossed the new keys on the counter and said “here you go.” The casual attitude made us realize cockroaches probably aren’t a shocking event at this place. Our new room was cleaner, but smelled of chemicals masking old cigarette smoke. Couches, carpet, and curtains was old and tattered. We had outdoor floodlights pointed directly at our room windows, which had blackout blinds which of course did not give full coverage. Added bonus: there was a massive pile of dead trees piled right out our window making for a pretty grim view. The one plus is the room (a suitewas pretty large. That said we bailed on this depressing landfill of a hotel after one night and made a reservation elsewhere for the remainder of our trip.
You get what you pay for. This place is just barely better than a Motel 8. Better linens, but otherwise a bottom tier hotel. The surfaces in the room were grimy with various stains on the walls, doors, cabinets, etc. Nothing feels clean to the touch. I found several hairs on the counter, linens and desk. Carpets are old and stained and the bathtub had a poorly fitting sticker on the bottom that was failing to hide grime stuck to the original tub. Dont plan on taking a bath here. The ice machine was broken, so no ice available, though the mini fridge and microwave worked fine.Free breakfast was decent with a nice waffle press, but there wasnt much protein available besides sugary yogurt. My mother got milk for cereal and it was rancid. The bed linens were nicer than expected, with good pillows. Our room was on the fourth floor and had a view of a pond with geese and ducks. The area is convenient to several chain restaurants. The walls are thin and we could hear our neighbors flush the toilet and conversations in the hallway.Overall, I would say that if you are on a tight budget and have low expectations, La Quinta on 1-40 will meet your basic needs, but dont expect much more than a mostly clean bed.
