La Mulata - Caribbean restaurant in Cartagena, Colombia
The service and food was amazing, we got Caribbean style fish filet and pork bbq ribs both meals were delicious! Coco rice is the best I’ve tried so far. The restaurant is beautiful and there’s pretty rad patio in the back of the restaurant. Highly Recommend!
Pretty nice spot and a really nice sitting area outback. One of the better spots I came across in Cartagena.Apparently, each meal comes with fish soup, which was a pleasant surprise. Dont skip the juice selection either.Staff were very friendly!
Quickly greeted by a hostess. Open seating, you choose where you want to eat. Our waitress promptly placed the complimentary plantain on the table with a tasty yogurt sauce and lime. We ordered the fried fish (local fish), which comes with a tasty fish soup, coconut rice and freshly fried plantain. The Octopus which is not on the menu is delicious, worth every pesos.
Delicious food, got some complementary soup, the juice was good. Cozy environment
This is a nice low-key spot to grab a bite. They have indoor dining as well as a garden patio in the back. The staff was very attentive and even split our food in separate plates so my partner and I could share more easily.
It was my first time having Cazuela de Mariscos so I could not tell if it was a good version but the serving was generous and the food well made with the exception of the patacones which I found sub-par. The limonada de coco was very good and the appetizer of plantain chips a nice touch. Service was friendly and attentive.
We went today for dinner. This was the first restaurant of our trip. My mom ordered the Arroz d’Camaron (shrimp with rice), which was described as a paella. I ordered the Kamaronero (fish filet, with shrimp, rice and a yummy sauce). Both were $39m pesos or about $8USD. We also ordered waters, another $7m pesos. All together it was $92m pesos + we did the suggested 10% tip, totaling just over $100m pesos or $21USD. Everything was delicious. Would eat here again… absolutely recommend. Cute, chill vibes. They take card or cash.
The best place to get food in Cartagena by far. Make sure to get here early as the place reaches its capacity fast.
We love this place. The food was really good. The price was also affordable.Very friendly staff. Highly recommend
Great food. Very good food, great quality ingredients. Also good service, fully recommend.
Great food, good local artisan beer, excellent and quick service and you can pay with card. Highly recommended!
One of my favorite restaurants in CTG to get fried fish, patacones, arroz on coco y una cerveza fría. If you come here, you won’t be disappointed. In fact, you’ll come back for more!
Local food in Cartagena old city, nice atmosphere! Arroz de Mariscos super good! not pretentious but true! there are no places like this in Cartagena
So cheap and tasty. I can recommend to order the coconut lemonade!!! So delicious. Drink with dish the total cost was less than $11.
Amazing staff...delicious food and super impressed with how well they handle the line between spicy and palatable. The habaneros shrimp ceviche was amazing and I dont even like shrimp. Bubba would throw a big thumbs up.
One of the finest hidden pearls of local food within the streets of the old city, famous for its seafood ceviche and "posta negra cartagenera", their signature dish (and a must try if you visit). The place is huge inside and it hosts a very diverse selection of atmospheres. I like to be seated in the backyard, surrounded by plants and a bunch of local art hanging from the roof.Cards are accepted and service personnel is kind and warm. Make sure to also try the "corozo juice".
Good food, great prices. I had the whole red snapper which came with coconut rice, plantains and avocado.
We have been looking for a dinner spot just like this during our entire stay in Caratgena! Not only was the ambiance cozy, relaxing, and beautiful, but there was also a live sax musician performing for us in the main dining room. We were pleasantly surprised by the good prices as well as delicious and beautifully presented food. The fresh fish was buttery and I especially loved their coconut rice! They also gave us plantain chips, on the house, to start. The service here was also very pleasant, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, if you are looking for a chill spot for dinner in the old town that is friendly and reasonably priced, you will find that here. The restaurant is also a lot bigger than youd expect, making this ideal for large groups. Would recommend this restaurant if you want a more casual yet romantic date night. We spent 143 thousand COP, including tip, for 2 cocktails and 2 entrees.
Ok so reason for the not so good review is the following. First they are definitely short staffed. Place was packed and only like 4 waitress. Definitely not enough ! Menu is small. Shrimp ceviche was good, I had the shrimp rice was yummy. But I wanted something more then just Shrimp and fish on the menu. I’m sure the fish was great. But needs more variety !
THE BEST OF LOCAL FOOD AND ONE OF THE BEST CARTAGENA FOOD RESTAURANT MY DISH WAS CASUELA DE MARISCOS OF COURSE IM CAME BACK....SEE YOU SOON
The food was tasty with very good presentation. I had one of their fried fish (they off 4 options)..and had a piña colada drink which had actual coconut shavings....the seating in the back is awesome because you can actually see into the kitchen as theyre preparing the food.
Great food and prices. I’m going back soon. :)
Incredible atmosphere, amazing staff. Easily my favourite restaurant in Cartagena!
This restaurant has typical food from Cartagena. Prices are very cheap. Food is great. Drinks are great. Service is great. I always leave a generous tip!
Delicious food and friendly staff. The spanish menu is English if you flip it over which is nice and less intimidating. SUPER good coco limonada and the fish was so yummy. They also give you a complimentary starter (ours was plantain chips). Would recommend!
The restaurant door is small, and only open a half when we arrived at 8:30 pm. We were not sure if it was open, but once we got in, it opened up a limited indoor space with good ambiance and inviting decoration. We ordered juice, kamarlon, shrimp rice, etc. all were delicious. The appetizer are cold shrimp with fried plantains. Their plantains are long and thin slices dipped with yogurt- very delicious and different from the other restaurants. I strongly recommend this Caribbean restaurant.
Good food, nice place with live music as well. Very friendly wait staff but it took very long for us to get our food. I am not a fan of fish soup but the one they provided on the house as a starter was very good.
Very cool spot, nice break from the busy streets. Great service & tasty seafood dishes
The food was very good. They have a lot of fishy stuff but I had an appetite for meat so I ordered the Posta Negra C/genera and I can really recommend that. Prices are fair as well. I just need to reduce one star because the service was a bit slow. At least they should be able to serve drinks (just beer, nothing fancyin a short time. We had to wait for at least 30 minutes.
We had such a great experience. The food was delicious, especially the ceviche and the fish was simply amazing
Excellent service, good menu choices, mostly serve delicious local dishes.
First night in Cartagena and we venture to this lowkey restaurant in the city center, didnt disappoint! The food had a very elevated presentation and the flavor was just great. I would say their forte is fish so try the local catch. On another note, the coconut rice can have a little tuning up in my opinion but overall would come back and would recommend.
Sorry the only thing I really liked was the fish soup, which was complimentary 😅 The coconut lemonade tasted like it had Yakut in it, plus I had a way better one the previous night. The sauce for the fish fillet was bit too salty, and the texture of the fish wasn’t my thing.
We first heard of La Mulata from another couple during an excursion. After seeing the great online reviews, we decided to dine there on our last night in Cartagena. It was a great choice! The restaurant sits in the heart of the walled city and is easily accessible by foot. The decor is catchy and the table layout allows for a cozy experience for dinners. Moving on to the food, this was definitely some of the tastiest food that we had on this trip. They served traditional regional dishes with great flavor. Our favorite was hands down the Posta Negra Cartagenera, which is meat slowly cooked cooked to a fall off the bone delicious delicacy. The food was definitely worth the bang for your buck. We at the Zasón Guide definitely recommend visiting if you are near the area.Extraordinary: Smell, TasteÇÇ
Food was amazing! I would totally recommend this place to friends. The service was great and the coconut rice was the best I had tried in a long time.
This restaurant can represent the traditional Cartagena food - fried fish. The menu is very simple and I got 4 types of fish to choose from. The dish was freshly made, so tasty, and I have to say, what a difference it makes when the fish is real caught of the day and never frozen.I had a mango margarita and that was out of this world! The waitress is a sweetheart. She told me that the owner buys fish at 4AM everyday. He treats the employees very well. The 10% service charge (this is everywhere heregoes to the employees. All the efforts, the fish dish is less than $9. I feel grateful. Really.
Food was very tasty. And the camarones habanero was quite spicy for Colombian standards. Good service and nice decor. I wouldn’t go running back but definitely worth the visit if you’re in town and looking for seafood. Menu was quite limited.
Shoutout to George for his friendly and warm service! I told him I had a shellfish allergy and he recommended the filete al limon and - as a native Floridian and seafood lover - it was absolutely superb!! Wi-Fi is available and even posted on a wall decal. Definitely a staple for all future Cartagena visits!
The best restaurant in town with the best workers! Lemonade de coke is so great. Ceviche is simple but with the fresh unique fish called Robolo. I recommend it.
Cute and friendly spot near the very lively part of town! The ceviche seemed pretty fresh. They didn’t have the octopus by the time I came (not sure if it’s on the menu anymore). Plantain chips were okay - not super fresh or crunchy but the white dipping sauce is so flavorful! My friend got the fried rice with the fried fish on top. So delicious!
By far the best dishes Ive eaten during my stay in Colombia. Shrimp wok and fish filet as well as the complementary banana snacks and fish soup were great. The summer wine also was increadibly tasty!
Great Caribbean-style food, and the service is wonderful! The wait staff is very friendly and will happily recommend to you any of their favorite dishes. The mango margarita was the best I have ever had! You must try it!
The Ceviche was so refreshing … perfect summer weather dish. The ambiance got even more lit once the musicians walked in and started jamming it out :)
Cute little bar a bit off the beaten path in the walled city in Cartagena. Good selection of cocktails, appetizers (we tried the cevicheand entrees. They also have live musicians playing from time to time. Nice place to relax and have a drink just outside the bustle of the city.
Everyone raved so much about it and google reviews are so good, we had to go. Nice decor and cool AC, good start. Free fish soup as a starter which was amazing. Watch out for bones. We had a cazuela for 40k and omg, it’s the worst I have had on this trip (I tried 6-7 until now).. it’s super salty and it’s like salted water with coconut. The portions are generally very small (for me to say that is hard since I usually never finish my meal). We were talked into those filets and they were super below average for 35k. Limonada natural did not taste natural. The invoice comes with tip included. And lastly: my partner got tummy ache right after having the cazuela.
I had dinner here with one of my friends while visiting Cartagena last week and hands down, this was the best Colombian food of our trip. The flavors were excellent. I got the shrimp in garlic sauce and my friend got The Mixto. Both were extremely good, but my only critique is that my shrimp was a little overdone. The soup we were served was delicious as well and the servers were polite and attentive. I highly recommend!
This was an absolutely delicious dinner. We visited after seeing all the positive reviews and La Mulata did not disappoint. I was sold after the seafood soup to start, very traditional with bones and fish pieces, worth the work for the great flavor. I ordered the arroz con camarones (picturedbut the camarones ajillo was our groups top pick. Will return before my trip ends!
The dining experience was so amazing that we decided to eat here two nights in a row. The servers are wonderful. I highly recommend this to everyone. Also, their coconut rice is addicting. We took a portion to go afterwards.
The soup which is a free appetizer is fantastic, good enough to come to La Mulata. We came with my family, all dishes we tried were very good, well presented and with that unique Cartagena taste. A place you can’t miss if you visit Cartagena.
I gave this place 5 stars because of it incredible service. Waiters really are trained well. They give you an soup and plantain chips on the house to start. On top of that all of their food is delicious. This is a great recommendation of mine.
