Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 749, 08013 Barcelona, Spain, Mataro
1914 art nouveau bullring, now used for concerts & shows, with a bullfighting history museum inside.
Bullfighting is not happening in Catalonia anymore but the building is fabulous to see
Cool place for a party. 🏵
Not to be missed, worth a quick visit at least.
Beautiful..worth every penny to pay a visit
Barcelona banned bullfighting in 2012. However, Barcelonas ring is still functional for music concerts or circus shows. The facade bear elements of amudejar style (Arab and Iberian mix). The ring has a capacity of nearly 20000 spectators. It is 10 minutes walk from Sagrada Famila along Marina st.Admission fee: 6€ / reduced 5€
Good view of the bull ring & Barcelona.
good
Fabulous insight into Barcelonas bullfighting history. At €6 per person, its well worth a visit.
Nice old torero fight arena near to Sagrada Familiar. As of today there are no more bull fights in the arena, but it‘s used as a party location (which I imagine being pretty cool actually). But unfortunately there is not much explained about the tradition and the history of this place. The museum is just a lose collection of articles and old torero clothings. There is much more potential, I would have loved to receive more information about this places history and the tradition of bull fights. And 6€ entry fee for this poor experience is definitely too expensive.
We went on a Saturday and it was closed. So, nothing to share here but bullrings are intrinsic to Barcelona and Spains history, thus it is a must visit if possible.
Although not on the usual tourist route this Bullring gives a fascinating insight into past. The museum could do with more care and attention but well worth a visit.
Very nice architecture!
Definitely not in the top list of Barcelonas attractions but you can easily spend some time on your way to Sagrada Familia. Bull fightings used to be a top event in the past and the matadors recognized as super heros!
My favourite building in Barcelona.
This building was a great sight to see. I encourage everyone to go there.
We went to Sound it. Great party if you like Tecno music and good environment.
Dont trust Google for the opening hours. We were lucky that a delivery truck was there and left the gate open so we could walk in thursday at noon (its supposed to be open). We had time to go on the pitch, that was a thrill to imagine the feria with a full crowd and a fighting bull. After 5 minutes we were (kindlytold they were close and accompanied back to the door. Too bad for the museum!
Real spanish tapas where the locals go. Great food at great price. Ive lived in Bcn 10 years and its a place I bring visitors to get the good, authentic experience. Great cook.
Cool to see old bull fighting arena
La Monumental is very close to our accommodation and we have tried to visit it the previous day but unfortunately it was closed. But today was the day and I wasnt disappointed. The entrance is affordable and although at first I believed it was just the arena, we had the chance to visit the museum as well and a small shop inside the premesis. Interesting experience but in a way sad due to the animal sufferings.
Unbelievable how the frontage looks compared to the inside. The view from the roof is fantastic
You can just feel the history there! Amazing place to see and they have small museum too. Price was just 6 euro so very cheap
The place is quite big but rather empty. The tickets are 6 euro per person, it seems a bit overpriced considering that this is an empty bullring and a small museum only. It has large toilets on the premises and a souvenir shop.
This building is used to be one of the two bull fighting rings until it was banned in Barcelona. Now this is a beautiful shopping center. You can go to the roof & have a 360 degree view of the city.
Great historical building to visit they dont do bullfighting there anymore. But they host all sorts of other events.
Best value, 6€ entry fee.
Wonderful place to walk around and get a feel for the bull fighting days of yore. The restrooms were plentiful and clean which was a nice surprise. Most days you can walk around without admission but the day I was there was an electric music festival so I paid €20 and enjoyed the atmosphere.
Another Barcelona gem, beautiful and serene, a short distance from the Sagrada Familia. The inside isnt worth the admission imo, go only if you are one of the rare adherents of bullfighting. Nevertheless, the place, robbed of its original functionality, has now the ambience of an empty shell. The exterior as said above is beautiful, another art nouveau masterpiece.
Impressive structure. They sport history is disgusting. Glad they banned it finally.
Feels very surreal, but wonderful and reminiscent experience of the olden days. Allowed to walk freely around the stadium and on the centre. Museum is very informative and well laid out, gift shop is small but has a lot to offer. Very cheap for all that you get if youre a bull riding enthusiast.
We always wanted to visit a bullring. This one is definitely worth to see. The old arena with interesting museum.Tickets are cheap - 6€ per person.
Beautiful building from outside .. close to the Sagrada Familia .. if youre near , take a look !
Very nice place!
I absolutely loved this unique building. Im glad they dont use it for bull riding and whatnot anymore. Its near the famous cathedral so you should certainly take a moment to appreciate this architectural marvel. You wont see much else like it. Its a brief stop to pass by, but definitely worth it.
Walked by no idea if could go inside but was very cool building from exterior
If I could Id give it zero.My friend and I walked 30 minutes because we really wanted to visit this. We got there at 5:30 pm and saw that tickets were available till 6:30 pm and it was open till 8 pm. But it looked closed, so we walked around but could not see anyone. After about 15 minutes we saw someone sitting inside the area where tickets were supposed to be sold. An old man sitting on his chair looking the other way. My friend asked if we could buy tickets and he shaked his head and made a cross sign with his arms. So my friend asked if it was closed and he, again, made a cross sign and said "go". We decided to wait and at 6:15 pm, he came outside, closed the gate and walked away even though its supposed to be open till 8 pm, he probably didnt wanna sell any tickets after 6pm because that would mean hed have to stay longer. Very unfriendly.
La monumental . Tickets rates are higher . Must visit place ..do not expect anything.
Beautiful building. Interesting if not popular history but a nice building all the same worth a drive by.
Not sure if it worth visiting or not !!
A random decision sent us to La Monumental to visit the bullfighting museum. It is a lovely building, though the history will surely generate mixed opinions. Ignoring that the building itself is lovely and the museum is interesting.
You may or may not agree with the whole bullfighting thing, but thats neither here, nor there. Barcelona has repurposed this bullfighting ring as multipurpose venue that hosts everything from live music concerts, to markets and a variety of other events. Also it gives you a pretty great view of the city in general. Check the calendar for when you will be in Barcelona and check it out. Great option.
Now used for different kind of events. Nice!
Well preserved relic of the past. The Bullring is well worth a visit and you can imagine the sounds, aromas and colours from its hay day. Easy to get to and from and a must see for all history buffs.
The museum isnt curated very well and more like a trophy collection. More für people who are already interested in bullfighting, no info here for people who never saw a fight. The rest of the building is pretty interesting though, you can go exploring, but a few info plates would be a great addition
Unique experience. Catalan tradition.
The La Monumental Bullfighting ring was a very interesting place to visit and was right next the the Monumental metro stop which was handy. The whole of the venue is opened up so allows you walk around all of the stands, the back areas and even go into the centre ring. It costs 6€ to enter for adults which gives you access to the venue and also the museum of bullfighting. It was a good experience of culture past and history. The ring has seen better days Im sure however, the people running it do all they can to make the experience worthwhile. Worth a visit if you want to experience a little history.
Took a piece of history and turned into into a living piece of shore that you can walk through. I wish theyd open up the bull waiting area.
In the Navy, went there in 1966 to the bull fights. All afternoon there was bull fighting. Saw matadors face the bulls, some of them rode horses. What I remember from that day was the bulls. If they fought they were killed. If the bull didnt fight he embarrassed the matador, and was coaxed out of the arena by steers and as soon as the gate was close he was killed by multiple spear wounds, by men assigned to that task who stabbed down in the chute I had to have seen at least 20 contests that day and if that is a correct number then the final score was Matadors 20: Bulls 0. The four stars do not represent my opinion of bullfighting. Its just to say that I was there way back when. But even to the novice after about a half dozen contests it was clear the bulls never had a chance. Because I was part of a tour for the sailors I couldnt up and leave. So all afternoon, one after the other, one after the other...........and no place to run.
The worst 6€ Ive spent. The "museum" if you can call it that, looks like someones garage of old belongings. And get ready for the lovely man at reception, a pleasure to talk to
there ist not much to see here, but as there are mostly few visitors you have got the chance to stand alone in the middle of the bullring, which is a unique experience
