La Mallorquina - Puerto Rican restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico
La Mallorquina in San Juan
Description
Privilege
We enjoyed our 12th anniversary here, and they were so wonderful to us! Their service was amazing, from the moment we walked up to the door, the live music was perfect, and the food was absolutely delicious!
MoreWaited 20 min for somebody to take our orden, no one did so we left! The restaurant was empty, one lady (I guess shes a regular arrived 5 min later than us and 2 guys quickly took her order.
MoreToo expensive for the food served. Not much variety in the menu. Not the same owners. A $16.00 salad and 29.00 for rice, stew and an egg...$28.00 for half baked chicken with not side...not soup in the menu...go to Longhorn instead...
MoreI’m very pleased with our experience at La Mallorquina last night. Little did we know it’s the oldest restaurant in Old San Juan and our friendly server gave us a little background info before taking our order. The vibe was nice for a late dinner: low light, white linen, live music and excellent food. We enjoyed everything we ordered. I’m not much of a ceviche guy but La Mallorquina made me a believer. If we ever make another trip to PR we’re definitely coming back
MoreAmazing food. Great service. Good music
Service was outstanding and food was delicious! Chef worked very well with significant food allergies. Highly recommend the lobster paella and the shrimp appetizer. We will be back!
MoreThe staff were great and the food was amazing. They had live music and a great atmosphere. Great for families. The squid paella was incredible. The owner personally went to each table ensuring everything was great.
MoreWe stumbled upon this place and so happy we ended up eating here. I had the pallea de pollo. Essentially, arroz con pollo. It was delish! Also had a feww margs and they were fab. Id recommend.
MoreLive nearby, have come here often,Its evident that the current management (2022of this place don’t know what they’re doing.Honestly the food is good… when the items are available…depending on the day you go, you’re either in for some good food or one of the worst services of your life.also if you are going with 5 or more people, be aware of the double tip the servers will sometimes charge you for having a big party.
MoreI wish I can give 5 stars, but the cocktails was not good at all. The service was amazing. The food was fantastic
MoreLive music, good cocktails. Tapas. Wish we could have spent more time here before our reservation elswhere. Will return
MoreThe octopus was burnt, the meat had more salt than actual meat. Food was overpriced and honestly not worth it. The quality was terrible. The staff was very kind though.
MoreMy family and I, 12 of us, were down in Old San Juan on a cruise and wanted to experience the City in an unfortunately short period of time. Well La Mallorquina fit the bill. A beautiful restaurant right in the middle of the area. It was about a 15 minute walk from the terminal. The food and service was exceptional. Would love to go back one day.
MoreAuthentic flavors in sanJuans oldest restaurant. I love the history and the architecture. I wish I could give it 10 stars.
MoreMy fiancee and I came here to celebrate our engagement. The staff was incredibly kind and helped us celebrate and really made us feel special. And the food was simply great. The mofongo was incredible, the marinade on the skirt steak was out of this world. Will definitely be back. Would definitely recommend
MoreAn Historic Restaurant in Old San Juan with more than 150 years. Great food and service. Music by a one man band.
MoreSuch a treat to eat at the oldest restaurant in Puerto Rico in an authentic location with a great vibe, tasty cuisine and great staff. I tried the mofongo, which is a traditional Puerto Rican dish, and opted for the cassava. It was so delicious. Eager to recommend and come back again!
MoreFood was great but limited due to several items on the menu not being available. Staff was very friendly and attentive.
MoreI had a great birthday dinner here on 7/1.
Great meal at La Mallorquina—oldest restaurant in San Juan. Delish paella. And well taken care of by Mike, behind the bar.
MoreVisited Memorial Day weekend and was disappointed in service and food..we wanted to like the place just based on ambiance but hour wait for food .. we know everyone in restaurant was looking unhappy for the amount of time waiting on food and drinksSometimes I wonder if reviews are real .. I don’t blame waiters at all fyi
MoreGreat service, and even better drinks. We had a passion fruit mojito, quite tasty and refreshing.
MoreAmazing Mofungo!Service , decor, ambiance all high end!Authentic and not a touristy placeAwesome Sangria.Drunken cat lying on the floor was entertaining!
MoreThe service was good, but the food quality was extremely disappointing. The Paella was not flavorful and had too much salt. The mofongo was underwhelming as well.
MoreMy family and I had the best experience, the food was amazing we got the seafood paella some tapas and a few other dishes to share, this is our first time in Puerto Rico and we felt so welcomed here. The staff was so helpful our waitress her name started with an M I cant seem to remember but she even recommended some places in the area to check out
MoreHorrible attitude. Not worth your time or business. We are avoided by the waiters for 20 minutes, took menus ourselves, talked to the host to help us get served, instead the waiters served two more tables and continued avoiding us (couple with a quite 3 year old kid. Looking forward to showing my son some great Puerto Rican service and friendly attitude elsewhere.
MoreDrinks, Ceviche, and Shrimp Mofongo were all very good. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient, plus it was easy to get a table on a Saturday!
Morephenomenal service, staff was kind and good for conversation, food was exquisite along with the appetisers. I highly recommend asking the staff about their homemade spicy sauce selection as it really boosts the flavour
MoreGood place, great atmosphere, tasty food, a bit expensive. Was overcharged though which spoiled the impression
MoreService and atmosphere were great. Thats everything good I have to say. I got the seafood paella and croquettas. If you have ever had a remotely authentic Spanish restaurant on the main land you would know those dishes were not good. For a restaurant that claims to be so old and descendant of a Spanish family I expected those dishes to be perfected. The seafood in the paella was nit even cooked with the rice. I would have paid $10 at most of that dish. I would have rather had frozen mozzarella sticks than those croquettes and they charge $15!
MoreThe mojitos and churrasco mofongo with garlic sauce and sweet plantains were so delicious. Very friendly service as well. Would absolutely return!
MoreMy experience was extremely poor, the food was decent but the service was lacking everything. We were a large party and the food was brought out a little at a time. By the time the last person got there food all of ours was cold. We all wanted to eat together and we ate cold food and the service had to be reminded of what we are waiting for and still we didn’t get it right.
MoreOne of my favorite restaurants in San Juan so far. I found this through a web search and it caught my eye because of its history being noted as the oldest restaurant on island dating back to 1848. I was mostly surprised that given the history the quality of food wasn’t compromised. The sangria has a pretty presentation, the OJ in mimosa was fresh, the albóndigas (yum!!!and seafood paella (packed with flavor). I was pleasantly surprised by how great the food was. Service was on point (Jean was wonderful), ambiance rich with historic pieces and marble floors, and it carried a bit of a classier vibe. Highly recommend!
MoreThe food was delicious, I could cut my steak with a fork! The staff and service was amazing! Everyone goes out of their way to make sure your dining experience is unique! Food is served hot and in a timely fashion! They even have a few signature drinks, I recommend "Thats my jam" 🍸 The owner is present and personable, makes everyone feel like family, inclding his team! The music and ambiance is relaxing, with live entertainment on some nights! I highly recommend La Mallorquina!
MorePlus 💯💫🙏The Paella for two; red snapper ceviche w/arepa; the Albondegas are delectable.Enjoy the fresh OJ mimosa & sangria.A constant breeze and ceiling fans was suitable for comfort.Truly enjoyed the "wow" factor entering La Mallorquina.
MoreFor the love of trifongo!!Trifongo was so delicious. I tried it upon staff suggestion, which didn’t disappoint. Each bite was so full of deliciousness and great taste. Waited a bit for my order but I’m starting to realize that’s standard in PR. Also, I went mid afternoon and they’re out of some dishes (churrasco and meatballs in my case).Restaurant is very clean and well kept, creating a comfortable environment.
MoreStopped here for dinner with some friends after a full day in San Juan. Prices were reasonable, though not cheap, and the quality of food was great! We split the seafood paella and some sweet plantains, which was more than enough food for two people. The atmosphere was amazing, and the building was beautiful and historic. Would definitely recommend as a great dinner spot in Old San Juan.
MoreLet me tell you about an amazing waitress from Texas who took care of us this evening. Madison is a Rockstar. She blew my level of customer service out of the water. She helped us navigate and suggested the absolute best food ever. She went above and beyond. I wish I lived here because this place would be my go to for everything. Top notch!!! Food was amazing and sooo delicious.
MoreWonderful authentic setting - coffee was delicious. Service a bit slow, but we werent in a hurry. Only complaint was that the server wasnt told what they were out of on the menu; however, the owner was very accommodating. Generous portions - and its quite good, too.
MoreFood-wise: the garlic mofongo tasted very well, great texture, moisture and the chicken was good. The butter mofongo had no flavor at all, the churrasco was not well seasoned and they did not offer any additional sauces for it.The place: amazing, wonderful view. Only things that bothered a bit is that they share walls with a person who has a dog on an open balcony and having dogs scratching themselves right above the kitchen and tables it’s not pleasing.Service: we had a great experience with service. The waitress was charming and very friendly. She paid attention to detail.Price: Personally i believe you are paying more for an experience. I only had two things from the menu and I can only judge that, but for that price there are a ton of more flavorful things to try in different places.Advice: All employees must wear uniform even manager if she/he will be working there. It is a new management un the restaurant and there are many things yet to accomplish. Also, please add a drinks menu.
MoreService was great but food wise there wasn’t many options to choose from to possibly accommodate anyone and we were also served raw food when it’s supposed to be made “well done” … I don’t know I wouldn’t come back at all !
MoreOnly photo i have but.... good was great and drinks were both tasty and strong (had two different drinks with two different preferences).I had the build your own mofongo with sweet plantain, garlic scampi sauce and churrasco. Best mofongo Ive had in some time. The vino chorizo appetizer kept my thinking about it my whole trip. So much i came back just to order again (when i got the mofongo).New manager is great and pays the staff really well (talked to some of the staffcompared to others, I really like this. I can careless about how the guest are treated if an owner/ manager treats their employees really well
MoreSuch an amazing experience here! The service and food was everything to die for! So elegant and elevated. Love the service!Found this place from the locals here in PR that recommended it to us. It is under NEW management as of a month ago, the service was top notch! Absolutely had one of the best passion fruit Mojitos and paella!
MoreThe service was a little bit slow but the food was delicious. The paella mariscos was great and the snapper awesome. Finally with a cheesecake with coffee!!! Recommend.
MoreWe went the night of the soft launch(unbeknownst to usand only had drinks at the bar. The atmosphere was absolutely beautiful and there was even a singer in the balcony. Met Madison outside and her awesome personality is the reason we even we went inside. She was so friendly and knowledgable. We would definitely go back and try the menu on our next visit.
MoreThey said it was day of soft launch. The service was slow. The server was nice but not competent. Different people came to take the order and the final bill was messed up, of course, charging us for two dishes instead of one. The sad thing was the food was not at all worth it. The dishes were cold, and for two dishes we didnt get the accompanying bread (when we told the server that they didnt provide bread with a dish that had bread in the menu, they told us to our face that bread isnt included - we had to tell them to look at the menu and come back to us). The cauliflower steak was not cooked well and essentially inedible. The dish was sent back and we asked for anything vegetarian they can provide instead - they gave us burnt potatoes. They charged us for all the dishes that were sent back. We had to struggle with the manager to explain why we were dissatisfied. To be honest, talking with the manager was the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. Ill just leave it at that. Not one dish was up to the mark. The service staff was nice to the face but it was annoying after a point as they couldnt understand our issue at all.
MoreThis place was very busy, but I must say we had good service, and an amazing view. We dined in the street, as they had closed the avenue next to it for the beautiful umbrella display showed in the pic below. Ive had mofongo from MANY restaurants in Old San Juan, and this was BY FAR the best. It was moist, the other ingredients fresh; basically amazing. Highly recommend..
MoreI loved it here - beautiful decor, storied history (founded in the 1800s), great service, delicious food. I really enjoyed the grouper with roasted and mashed root vegetables. Please go, you wont regret!
MoreI was in a rush and the waitress made sure I got my food in time. The setting is stunning: Spanish colonial with an inside patio and a Andalusia-style fountain. This is the oldest running restaurant in PR. The food, on the other hand, was uninspired and tasteless.
MoreThis is the oldest/longest operating restaurant in the western hemisphere. They renovated the place a few years ago and it looks phenomenal. The food was fantastic. The Mofongo was great and the acupurials (forgive the spellingwere amazing. The beef pallea was very flavorful. My mother had the steak and onions which she said was one of the best she had. Its cooked the old school PR way meaning its pan fried which makes it a bit dry to me. Apparently thats the way its supposed to taste. Overall gorgeous place and fantastic food. Make it a point to go
