1260 Hertel Ave, Buffalo, NY 14216, United States, Buffalo
La Kueva - Puerto Rican restaurant in Buffalo, United States
The food was so bad omg.
Its good its reminded me of home made food
I don’t recommend this place at all. Food had no flavor. Tasted like old oil, greasy and burnt.
If youre in the hertel area this is a must stop! Pastelitos beef and chicken are amazing everything else there also amazing its a must stop in!
The roast pork was excellent very tender.
Best Cuban I’ve ever had
So disappointed at this place I found A piece of metal on my food While I was eating it and I’m pregnant it was so distressful Don’t even waist your time here it’s not worth it.I will never go back again I wasted my money😒🤢🤮😵💫thank god I did not feed my kids ❌🚫
Lots of food for an exceptionally good price and tasty too. My best friend is Puerto Rican and introduced me to alcapurrias here and they were very satisfying
The tripleta was the best sandwich ever. The pastelitos were full of chicken and meat, and the rice and beans and chuletas were very good and I forgot portions are huge. I recommend this place 100 percent. To bad is to go only.
Spot on peurto Rican spot. Great prices excellent food. Started off with a beef and cheese pastelillos and bacalaltos. The bacalaltos was fried crispy and light with a mild cod flavor .pastelillos were cooked perfectly and not too greasy and had a nice amount of meat and cheese. Had the cuban toaton sandwich, which I believe was on green plantains insteasd of bread . The meat was cooked till falling apart and the plantains were fried crispy. Definitely will be back.
Honestly the food was ok, it was not the cleanest place as well. However, the staff member made a racist remark while I was waiting for my food. It was not against my race but still made me very uncomfortable and I will not patron a business that condones racist actions
Food is excellent with ready within 10 minutes healthy amount just $12
I have never had something so dry and flavorless in my life. I can’t believe this restaurant is still in business. They need to be embarrassed of themselves.
Food has no flavor, I asked for rice and beans and pernil and I got like a bean soup. Not authentic at all Hispanic food . Wouldn’t recommend and the young lady taking orders is very dry.
This is the second time I order from here. They are disappointing every time, like I am beyond upset because I ordered ribs & the ribs are old most definitely ruined our dinner. To be honest I give credit when it’s due, I think the cook needs to retire at this point. Embarrassing Puerto Rican’s like this making us look bad. Uno trata to support pero chacho 2 times bro come on. On top of that the young lady is rude & she acts like customers are a bother when you call, this an experience from a co worker now. Yeah I most def won’t recommend yawl anymore. Nunca mas smh 🤦🏾♀️ Grandmas turning in their graves
I was excited to try some Puerto rican food. Since La Kueva wasnt open for dine in, I placed a to go order for marinated chicken and fried pork dinner items for $20. Very disappointed. Food was mostly bland rice and few pieces of chicken. Fried pork had some flavor but was tough. The takeout container had melted around the pork, very unsafe to eat 😬😬. Had to throw away most of the food. I dont know how this place got 4.4 star average reviews. Maybe other menue items are better but I cant recommend. Better places to eat near by and in Buffalo.
MY FOOD WAS DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My fried pork wasn’t dried out It was fully cooked, seasoned well AND JUICY🙌🏾 YES GOD!!! THE YELLOW RICE WAS SO FAVORABLE AND WITH THE BEANS ECT PERFECTION. My beef and cheese pastelilo perfect as well AND NOT GREASY. And you get your money’s worth 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 #extremepickyeater #taking glances #tolazytocook #doordash #spanishfood
I live about 8 miles away and tried to go here 2 times now. I checked map quest and it showed open and was going to allow me to order ahead. Each time I get there and they were closed.Forst time was around March and this time May,
I placed an order for 16 meals. I arrived and everything was prepared to go, all meals were hot and generously portioned. Everyone who received a meal said it was delicious.
Did not receive my order correct. No refunds for this as well as food was disgusting, rice was bland with no flavor and chicken was mediocre to say the least. Never going back, warning...Not worth it!
My first time eating here it was a delivery and I had a beef and cheese pastalio my coworker had yellow rice and beans 😋 it was so so good and fresh I had to find out where this place was and I went ok my first thought clean very nice lady taking orders gloves and mask on yes 👍 I will be back
The food literally has no flavor. Even the pastillos were bland. Bean sauce had no flavor either. The chicken had a little flavor but everything else needed some salt or some seasoning BAD. Incredibly disappointed. Not gonna lie probably the worst Spanish food I’ve ever had in town. Won’t be back ever
I know Puerto Rican food so I can attest that this is a bad attempt at Puerto Rican food it does not even comes close. The mofongo had no taste whatsoever and it looked as if someone put it in a blender it was not mashed. The yellow rice and beans had no flavor. My tate is ZERO. $20’00 in the trash.
The quality & quantity of food they give you is ridiculous. They definitely give you your money worth! The food is so flavorful & staff is very friendly. Will be coming back again !
La Kueva has a GREAT Wednesday special!!!You receive:• two $9.50 dinners• two containers of beans (to accompany your rice)• two $2 appetizers• two drinks (sodas, water bottles)It was only $25.01 with tax. Also, patient, efficient, and socially distanced Customer Service! I look forward to returning!
Omg, my food was soooooo soooooo good I cant wait to go back! I can tell the food was really made with some passion and I greatly appreciate that! All I have to say is my life is better with La Kueva. Thank you and see you soon again!
Im not only disappointed in the food but the girl was rude. Bacalitos were over fried and greasy. Mind you I was with my white husband Im Puerto Rican and was asked to wait outside in the rain while another Spanish person stood standing inside waiting for their meal. I would not return to this establishment. Thought I would be eating an amazing Puerto Rican meal only to be disappointed on the tasteless and greasy food. Service was not friendly and not welcoming to unfamiliar faces.
Awesome Puerto Rican food. Cheap, Amazing!! Best beef and cheese pastellios in town. The biggest Cuban sandwich only for 8$ is to die for!
So first off Im writing this review while still eating...LOL. Today was my first time going and OMG!!!....the food is awesome. I had the marinated chicken with rice and beans phenomenal and the chicken and cheese postelito. Everything was amazing. Best Puerto Rican food in buffalo hands down
Went on Wednesday, had the pork chops in sauce (best way Ive ever had themwith mofongo (good but never had beforeand salad and a postelillo with beef and cheese (that was better than those at Niagara Cafe, friendlier service and not busy too).
Amazing food!! Their pastelillos are to die for. The service was great and the pricing was fine. I didnt take too long for my food to get to me and the workers are so sweet. I have no complaints about this restaurant!!🇵🇷
Very friendly. Go early as many times options do start to run out at later hours..probably since they are time consuming to make to order so are made daily ahead of time which is understandable and a good thing cause at least its homemade not frozen. Good food.
The Pork Dinner was Excellent. The marinated Chicken was good as well, however tasted almost like a stew chicken. I would have liked it Roast. However it is worth a 5 Star Review. Yummers
What a pleasant surprise! Everything was so tasty, starting from the complimentary soup! I do not usually eat PR dishes but liked everyrhing I tried. Our friend tried and loved it too. Definitely will go back.
Went there with my wife to pick up lunch!! The young lady that worked the counter was a little bland is seems like she was upset about something when taking our order she was very Professional but not Happy at all... It took them15 minutes which was pretty fast to get us our food the prices were excellent And the food was delicious the restaurant was small clean Similar to other Spanish restaurants I would recommend them if you want something quick and delicious And authentic Spanish food.
The pernil and sweet plantains dish was amazing. The plantains tasted like candy and the pork had just the right amount of crisp. The sandwich was also a total home run. We were blown away by how huge it was (and for $6.00!). We easily could have split one sandwich for lunch and been full.
La Kueva is a quality establishment. They’re a clean restaurant, I usually order take out. They are cheaper than other competitors for a small rice&beans and pastellio. However they lack flavor, I have to add hot sauce to my rice and beans, it’s good enough and satisfies that craving. However, next time I will pass on getting a pastellio, there’s no cheese or any flavor, just plain tasting ground beef. There is a $10 minimum to use your credit card.
Great food. Small hometown atmosphere
La Kueva is a very small restaurant with only 6 tables. We were welcomed right away with a very friendly smile from the woman working there; she might be the owner. We were waiting for our friends to arrived and she served us a nice little cup of soup. La Kueva (the Caveis a nice little gem on Hertel, worth visiting.
Excellent!! The food was fresh and plentiful. I got the roast pork dinner rice and beans are the best I have had in this area. Rice was moist and spiced just right. Beans had a good amount of veggies mixed in. Delicious. I saw others in the restaurant eating the shrimp dinner....looked very awesome. My next order.
Ive lived in the Hertel neighborhood for six years and tried La Keueva for the first time tonight! I wish I walked in here sooner; the food is amazing! We ordered two dinners and two sides for only $25. We each ate about half of our food until we were STUFFED and will have the rest for lunch tomorrow. Highly recommend this place 👌
Very friendly staff. Alcapurrias were excellent. White rice, beans and pork chops were like my mom used to make them. A bit more salt would earn an extra star
Everything was delicious!!! OMG! I had to push the plate away so that I some overeat and ruin the experience...The fish with mofongo and salad and acapuria had me thinking I was back home in da Bronx! One important difference is that its not at all salty. So you can add as you need... And that makes me feel good!!!
We went for our first time yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed everything. The food is delicious , the service is Excellant. The simple charming atmosphere is a trip to Puerto Rico. We are going back next week for sure..
After living in Buffalo for two years, I recently discovered this Puerto Rican gem on Hertel Avenue. People have been known for singing while savoring good food. Well this place had me singing...."Despacito, this is how they do it down in Puerto Rico". Lets hope I spelled despacito right. The pernil with crispy skin accompanied with rice and peas was delicious. Think I needed a moment of silence for the tostones and sweet plantains. They were delish. Be sure to ask for their sauces, so you can dip and feel your tongue skipping to the beat of their yummy latin dishes. This place is not fancy. It was clean, the young lady at the counter was helpful and the food was yum. Oh! I should mention the sauteed shrimp they whipped up for me. Garlicky goodness, and loved the flavor all the drippings from the shrimp and even the pernil, added to my rice. Id give this gem 4.7 stars. Enjoy the yum.
Great food with wonderful service. This is the kind of small local place that knows your name. Place is always clean. They do not deliver which is okay cause I live in the area and prefer going to the restaurant for their service. My favorite is the relleno, the boneless chicken chunks or the chicken sandwich.
I always get the marinated chicken because I know they will make it tasty. The people working there are real Puerto Ricans and I believe that is what makes this place great.I didnt give them five stars because the tostones werent great in my opinion. Everything else I have tried there has been great though. The staff there are knowledgeable and friendly so dont be afraid to ask some questions. Have fun!
Im not an expert on Puerto Rican cuisine, but I grew up in a family that cooked and enjoyed meals from all around the world on a weekly basis. So, I cant guarantee the "authenticity" of La Kuevas flavors, but the wonderful chefs there have real Latin heritage and it shows in their food. Its absolutely delicious. Go there now.
Nestled in with the many food spots is a little quaint spot called La Kueva. Step inside to an aromatic filled room. The smell of spice is in the air. I was greeted by a young lady who told me to try the marinated pork or chicken. I do not eat pork so I chose the chicken. Now when I say that chicken lifted my taste buds to a new height. I have tasted a lot of chicken but nothing compared to the marinated chicken here. Stop in and dine or take out. Try it out today I promise you will not be disappointed.
The food is simply amazing and for the price you pay I simply cant complain. Wait can be a little long but this isnt a fast food restaurant so you should expect it. Id advise placing your order while youre on your way there so as to cut down on your wait time. The staff is very friendly as well. If youre thinking about eating your food there, you should know that the restaurant is a bit cramped.
