This large pyramid built by the Moche civilization was a site for worship & human sacrifice.
Great place. Felt like we had the whole archeological site to ourselves + the tour guide. Never seen antique walls and ceremics in such prestine condition given the age.
Place with history. Must go?
Great experience recommend this temple
Really interesting place and amazing to see how well preserved considering how old it is. We had a guided tour with Junior who was fantastic and shared lots of information with real enthusiasm
Was worth 10 soles + 5 for the museum (cant take pics). You dont need to pay a tour guide company. Ask for a bus (public bus - walk towards a busy street that has many buses and you will find one that goes directly there). 2 soles is the cost.
What a beautiful place. Truly a top destination to visit in Peru!Cant wait to visit again
A nice piece of history from the Moche civilization from 100 to 700 AD. This temple still has the original colours on the wall paintings. Visiting the museum + temple takes about 2 hours. Would recommend to take a guide with you. (there are also a few english speaking guides)
A glimpse of our collective past
Very interesting archeological site. Must do when in Trujillo.Unfortunately we were added to a spanish tour. When asked if there are also english tours it was said to us that we need to arrange this at the ticket counter - but there no one made us aware of it.
I did this tour more than half a decade ago and I havent forgot it ever since, such a unique adventure and sight here
Interesting but not outstanding.Coming to Trujillo for this - if you are not very into Archeology, it is not worthy.
Ok
Bellisimo...
Must visit when in Peru. Guide is included in your tour, only offered in Spanish
Beautiful place. One of the best preserved historical sites in Northern Peru.
One of the most incredible archaeological sites of Peru
The full site under excavation but what you could see, is breath taking. I loved our guide who was very knowledgeable and friendly. The walk up to the ruins is a bit steep but less than 5 minutes. Once you are in the tour group, the ruins are covered and the walk is easy and protected from the elements. Its a must do when you are in this area. There is ample parking, clean restrooms, small shop that sell refreshments and memorabilia, and a lovely little museum on site. I will definitely return to see the progress of the excavation and bring the rest of my family.
An inevitable place to visit in Huanchaco. Nice murals. Worth it.
Impecable maintenance of the grounds with ample parking and clean bathrooms. The guide was knowledgeable and very welcoming. The ruins are still being excavated. However, the majority of what is shown is incredible. Lovely visit. It does involve some walking up hill to get to the ruins (less than 5 minutes). Once You get to the ruins, most of the tour is shaded and well organized. Highly recommended. Also, the small museum on site is a definite must do. Brings the whole thing together.
Amazing area and very interesting. You definitely need a guide to understand and realize what you see
Impressive place massive proportions. Its a must while in this region. Tour takes about 50 minutes. Tipping the guide and entrance fee is only 10 soles. Did not know you must buy the ticket at the on site museum prior.
For those who plan on visiting Trujillo, this is a great little place to visit for the morning. Discovered in 1998, they have done a nice job to depict stories and preserve the frescoes. There are steps going up to the site and little souvenir trinkets at the base.
Very cool ruin. Much better than my visit to Chan Chan. The museum is worth a visit as well. Great window into the Moche life.
With a guided English tour, included in the admission ticket, I enjoyed it al ot. Excellent place to understand the Moche period.
Splendid place to visit before chilling in Huanchaco. The visit was very well organized.
i didnt know who came before the Inca... I really enjoyed seeing this today and the guide that we had was really good. He knew a lot of information and he didnt speak too fast and he was able to answer a lot of our questions. Excellent job
Huaca de la Luna, the pyramid-style "Temple of the Moon" is located just outside the very interesting city of Trujillo in North Peru, built from air-dried adobe. The (ongoingexcavations on this cite once built from the pre-Colombian Moche civilization offers a deep inside in their way of living. Very impressive are the vivid colored wall paintings, that still are in remarkable condition.
Impressive location. Well kept. Worth the visit.
Juan was an awesome guide and the place is a "cant miss". Extraordinary archaeological discovery. Beautiful.
An amazing visit, the art is stunning and a good price for those on a budget. 4 soles return via public bus (2 each wayfrom Trujillo centre. The entrance is 10 soles, an additional 5 for the museum which we skipped. The tour around huaca de la luna was around 1 hour and you are expected to tip the compulsory guide. We left an extra 10 as our group was around 12 people
Anyone who has a remote interest in the history of Peru has to stop and see this. Artwork here is persevered for hundreds of years and gives you great insight into the lives of civilizations past. This place takes you back before Europeans landed on the shores of South America and lets you glimpse into what that world was like. A very memorable place to say the least.
The artwork, the history. What a place to have been and seen with my own eyes. I love hearing about Perus indigenous history. 🥰
Great historical site. Very educational when touring with a professional guide.
Interesting especially if you want to be an explorer. A lot of walking. Did not care for the museum even if it was free. Guides were ok. There is so much to see of this type of site but is probably the best.
Nice historic place! Entrance 15 sol, guide in English or Spanish for free, their very good. Interesting stories about the old culture.
Incredible, I wish I knew more about the culture cause our guide in English was very limited in his info. The museum was also very good.
If you only see one archeological site in the area, see this one. The colours are incredible, and unlike anything I’ve seen in Peru. The guide was very knowledgeable. We loved our visit.
One of the many fantastic archaeological sites of the region, one of the most interesting ones. Its absolutely worth going and the local guides are excellent. The ancient city itself is very interesting and over the centuries the main monument has been built over previous layers, so at some point is possible to witness that. Amazing experience.
This place is really amazing. The Moon Temple is a very interesting place to visit as the excavation has been going on for about 17 years, and what has been uncovered has been very well preserved. Very worthwhile visiting this location!
One of the best museums I have seen in Peru, very well maintained temple as well. The English guide here is great, the best English guide I had in Peru. Would highly recommend.
Amazing place. What they did with mud bricks was spectacular. Very windy with lots of sand.
The coastal ruin sights differ from the Inca sights in the mountains. The adobe has weathered over the years and many of the ruins are damaged. This sight has impressive tomb and some weathered paintings.
It costs around 10 solas to enter and you must be escorted by a guide. The place is gorgeous and surprised me at how much detail there was. However, the tour doesnt last too long and theres not much else to to in the area.
Amazing archaeological site, 2 layers of the big mausoleum are excavated and show magnificent colored bas-reliefs. The guide is included and is really a plus. The museum is small but show pieces of great beauty and really worth the 5 additional soles. The landscapes surrounding the place are wonderful and its possible to climb (no track, caution !the Cerro Blanco next to the site to have a great 360° view. How fun it is running down the hill in the sand !!!
Amazing historic place, good guides in the area that offer private tours... quite expensive
A must visit place in Trujillo. The murals are impressive.
Interesting place, complete with sacrificial alter and lots of impressive, original wall murals. Im glad my wife, who is originally from the Trujillo area, took me here. I recommend it.
The guide Horhay was excellent, he did a private tour with me because I didnt speak Spanish and he was only still learning English but he was very fluent! Beautiful place that is more authentic then neighbouring Chan Chan site.
Very interesting ruins. The only ruins that I have seen with the original color on the relics still there on the massive walls that they created.
Incredible! Just amazed at how big a lot of Peruvian cultures were, far from popular believe that only Incas dominated the landscape. Note how good the colors are conservated, through thousand years. One thing that caused an impact was AI-APAEC, a Moche god who could transform into a lot of figures, but the fangs were ever there.
