107-111 Heath St, Hampstead, London NW3 6SS, Lyndhurst
Set in a former shepherd's cottage that's also a popular Italian restaurant, this rustic family-run hotel in the village setting of Hampstead is a 5-minute walk away from Hampstead tube station.Rooms all have en suite bathrooms, and feature free WiFi, TVs, and tea and coffeemaking facilities. Some rooms have 4-poster beds.Free continental breakfast is included. The restaurant and wine bar serves classic and modern Italian dishes and is open during the day for coffee and light snacks.
Its wonderful place to stay, near underground station, shops. maybe its not city centre, there is no lift and 5* facilities, but there is great atmosphere, the owner is very nice, and he is like the spirit of this place. The room was very cosy and there was everything could need. The bed was so comfortable, I just coudnt get up. If I go to London, I will stay here again
Brilliant. So sorry that the restaurant is not presently functioning, but the hotel is great
Absolutely amazing people! The owner and the team are probably the nicest folks you will meet in London. They allowed me to stay after check out to work in the restaurant area, and offered me coffee. Really made my day!
This was our second time here and its like staying with friends. So warmly welcomed and that wishes are implemented is just great. Another good time in the nicest part of London. Thank you Lorenzo!!!
Stayed one night. Nice little B&B with lovely, accommodating staff in great location
Would have been 2 stars if not for the very good waiter. The food was still tasty (sauces were excellentbut all meat was overcooked.
An absolute gem! We went for lunch and were really impressed with everything. This is a family restaurant with a lovely story behind. Its celebrating 60th anniversary this year and counts both famous people and many locals amongst them. I loved the decor and the impeccable service. The food was freshly made and tasted fantastic. We had lasagne and a vegetarian pasta and loved both. The menu has something for everyone. There are great options for vegans, vegetarians, pescaterians and meat eaters :It is reasonably priced but service is included in your bill. La Gaffe is close to Hamstead Station and not far from the lovely Pergola Garden.
This was my favorite place to stay. I love the location the owners are truly amazing. I cant wait to come back. I loved waking up in the morning here it was like a dream.
Lovely rooms and restaurant friendly service 👌
Highly recommendable for service and food! Very warm welcome, met 3 generations of the family that runs the hotel while there. Loved the quirky layout.Only a few hundred metres to Hampstead station, and Hampstead Heath round the corner.
Great accomodation in the heart of Hampstead, a Family-Run Guesthouse & Restaurant, he area is nice and calm and most important a few minutes walk from the metro. Rooms are very clean and spacious, great continental breakfast. staff very friendly and helpful. Charming 60s-decò style interiors. Great WiFI, in the rooms.
The people make this stay worth it. The room is cozy, clean and quiet. The food is delicious and the staff is welcoming.!
Nice stay. Very quiet and relaxed. Good continental breakfast!
Very tasty food ,place seems to be very busy .
Very nice food and cheap price! Recommended for everyone
Great meal.I had the sea bream my wife had the salmon accompanied by a bottle of pinot grigios.
Good food in a very welcoming environment . Alex was the only waiter we saw on the night and his level of service was exceptional which lead to a very pleasant evening. We will definitely be back!
Such lovely food, staff, and environment! A really great place for a catch-up with friends - very warm and welcoming but still of incredible quality. Could not recommend more!
So, the waiter was kind of nice, but i could hear constant swearing from the kitchen and that was him…, i didnt feel respected…,Next, the fork! Omg, i couldnt grab salad with it,embarassing. People watchEd me eating with hands. Ha!And now bruschetta. That was toasted dry bread with not enough/ fried vegies. This should melt my month but…,well, i put lots of oil, salt, and that was quite ok,The wine was good. And spaghetti…lolI get dry noodles, ok? I mean wthl!!!!no joke.On the top of that a few mushrooms, little vegies, very little. No flavor at all. Like at all. Again i put lots of oil to get more flavor. Even waiter said that its better if i put oil. HahahahSo, he knew its not Best .Shame, cos i am in Hampstead quite often, and i love Italian food, but…, its a good bye.
Amazing restaurant with great service and in my opinion, best restaurant in north-west London!! An absolute gem.
Great authentic Italian restaurant! Really good service and a pleasure to dine here :)
Lovely, quaint hotel and restaurant. It seems to have been stuck in a 60s/70s time warp, but in a good way! Excellent Italian food, very well cooked, no frills. Very good, professional and attentive service. We were a bit worried about the lack of double glazing, but its a quiet area and the room was warm and cosy.
Everyone from 11year old grandson to grandparents enjoyed the varied and tasty food. Friendly efficient service. We love La Gaffe.
Such a disappointment….Where do I begin?!£18.95 for a portion of LIVER?! Which contains two 1/4 inch slices and nothing more… it is absolutely outrageous.£5 for 8 finger-sized slices of fried courgettesUnfortunately, a first and a last. We’d rather save our money and not pay a babysitter and a £80 bill on top for such a wasteSuch a waste!
The best penne arrabiata in all of london (verified by my close Italian friends). I have been many times to this timeless place and will continue to come back.
Staying at La Gaffe was such a great experience. Right away I felt known by the team and like a local to the area. Lorenzo is a gem, hell remember your name, what youre up to during the day, and how you like your coffee. The wifi is fast and supported three days of video and conference calls from my room. Lots of plugs in the rooms. Firm bed and ceiling fans that made the hot days feel breezy in the evening. The continental breakfast has a spread of eggs, ham, cheese, a variety of breads. I thought Id go out to a coffee shop for breakfast at least one day, but found I enjoyed eating at the restaurant more!Id stay here again in a moment. In short: fantastic staff, great amenities, and a wonderful neighbourhood.
What a little gem this place is. Spotlessly clean and quite charming. Staff always on hand and endlessly attentive. Nicely situated for visiting Hampstead Heath.
We love La Gaffe for its cosy atmosphere, tasty food but above all - charming and friendly staff. We are always welcome by our friend Lorenzo who never fails to put a smile on our faces!😊 Fantastic place for a romantic evening - everytime we visit, it never fails to be a wonderful experience and very tasty Italian cuisine. Thank you guys for doing an excellent job and hope you survive these difficult times!! Daniela and Nunzio
I stay at La Gaffe Hotel whenever I am working in London (which is in normal times very oftenand I consider it my home from home. I have been staying there regularly for at least 15 years. I LOVE it.The staff are so helpful, and put up with my somewhat unconventional work hours with great good humour, always making sure I manage to get some dinner if I need it. The food is wonderful, and has my friends from all over the world drooling when I post photos of a particularly succulent supper dish on Facebook.Another major plus is the wonderful people one meets whilst staying there - many of whom have become close friends over the years. There is always someone to chat to, even if staying there as a single female (which is not usually the case in other hotels...)As I have often said to Lorenzo Stella, the owner, I just would not be able to function in my job without La Gaffe in my life. La Gaffe is 58 years young, and long may it continue to flourish both as a Restaurant and a Hotel!
I love this place. The staff are so friendly, Lorenzo, Alex, Giuseppe they’re always wonderful. The food is fantastic and the prices are reasonable
Been to this restaurant many times for lunch and dinner. The food is always good and the staff are very friendly. Its a very wholesome family run business. We hope this establishment survives the lockdown as we are eager to return.
Feel like we are in an old town of Italy, we didnt like the champagne and starters( avocado prawn cocktail sauce was not really good at allthe prawns were so tiny. The mains were good , tuna steak and linguine were good.
What can I say? Such friendly and caring service. So hospitable. What a location (Hampstead- AND affordable. This is now my go-to hotel in London. For London the rooms we had were spacious, newly refurbished, clean and functional.A good breakfast included.
The hotel room was nice and clean. All in place. The only drawback was the noise from outside despite I had a room with the view of the back yard. It must have been an air-con or another extractor. Anyway I could hardly sleep. Rather modest continental breakfast. No full English. No vegetables at all. Not even a basic cucumber. It took me some time to chew a slice of toast as I always have some veg. Fortunately there were some fruit. The staff couldnt however be nicer. And coffee was delicious.
We wanted home cooked Italian food in a relaxed atmosphere and that’s what we got.Everything was great lovely food good service very relaxed we had a lovely table by the window. Great to find a great local good value restaurant.
Lovely restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. The food was excellent and the service was 5 stars. Will be going back again very soon. Went back with a few friends for a friends birthday dinner Saturday 30th evening and they loved the restaurant. A very chilled out evening with delicious food and no worries. Thank you to all at La Gaffe.
Lovely restaurant and atmosphere - food was lovely and reasonably priced, the service was amazing and the person that welcomed us to the restaurant was extremely friendly, very refreshing. thank you, I had a great time !
Such a lovely B&B, located between the heath and town. Hospitable and welcoming hosts, the restaurant offerings were delicious and we used it as a base to explore the area for the weekend. Our room was well equipped, just be aware that there is no accessible access if you would require it. We would love to stay again!
Lovely little restaurant serves good Italian food. Established 1962. Very welcoming but unpressured. Moderately priced. No parking xsoneed to look for a place on the street.
Was very impressed with La Gaffe the other weekend. Tucked away in a particularly surreally lit & villagey feeling patch in the already surreally lit & villagey feeling Hampstead – La Gaffe was a beautiful, family friendly Italian restaurant which somehow manages to feel both tastefully retro and also surreally fairy tail-esk at the same time.First things first, let’s talk food - Yes, the food was amazing. The meat and cheese assortment that I had for starters seemed to enhance the wine we were having to precise perfection - the lusciously creamy & satisfying taste of the Ravioli I had was simply put everything you could possibly want from a Ravioli plus much more - all beautifully presented and generously priced. The staff who waited our table were all naturally friendly and politely social - the manager of the restaurant Pino, clearly a man very proud of his restaurant, also came around to our table to share a few jokes and storeys during the night– it really was an enjoyable experience.I recommend La Gaffe for a special occasion for the family or for a date – as an additional thought, I can really imagine kids below the age of 10 enjoying the villagey feel/dimly-lit walk up to the restaurant at night, letting their imagination go wild - miss this place at your peril.
I usually never write reviews, especially no negative ones but since that restaurant have been rated to be so excellent my friend and I booked our table last Saturday. First, the starter which comes for free was not at all typical Italian. Roles with butter ... the wine tasted bad, we had to return it. We got a fresh opened bottle immediately, which was good but still, the quality of the wine was beyond tasty. I had smoked salmon with pasta and cream sauce. It tasked so boring, I had to spice it up with salt. The parmesan was not even fresh grounded. Oh my goodness. Seriously? I come from Austria and we have a very, very good italian restaurant. Even Italian people who visit Austria come to that particular place. Its a shame there are not that places here in London, or I just havent found them yet. Next week I am trying out another restaurant near Oxford Street. It supposed to be good. For all who consider whether to eat at La Gaffe, please go somewhere else. It breaks my culinary heart eating there. I am sorry for that bad review but please, please start cooking real Italian food with Italian quality.
Great find of a gem 💎 in London England. The restaurant has a very nice selection on both their lunch and dinner menus. Additionally, La Gaffe has about 18 guest rooms connected above the restaurant, providing a nice place to stay at a fantastic value/price for the traveler. We will definitely stay here again. Lorenzo, (the owneroperates everything with first class service and hospitality. This reviewer recommends La Gaffe and the hotel. Thank you Lorenzo.RECOMMEND - 5 STARS ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Stayed for a weekend and the welcome and service could not hace been warmer. Ate at the restaurant the first night and it was delicious. The service was also spot-on with the waiters attentive but not intrusive and very friendly. The rooms themselves were small and quite basic but clean and comfortable (especially the beds). Was disappointed a little with the breakfast but mainly because im not a huge fan of continental which just comes down to personal preference. What they did have on it was fresh and tasty so overall it was a great stay with no complaints.
This is an ok hotel and restaurant at an ok price. The rooms are small, the breakfast so-so and the bed pretty firm, but this is London so its probably pretty good value. The bathroom was clean and fairly new, the restaurant handy and not bad and the people involved all friendly and helpful. The Wi-Fi should have been really good, but in our room it was patchy.
Lovely restaurant, beautiful decor with a great atmosphere. The food is fantastic, home style Italian cooking simple, elegant and fresh, cooked to order. Shame more places in Hampstead are not like this, staff are very attentive but dont rush.
The hotel: a relatively good value option for visiting f&f. I would suggest that management here invest in upgrading the rooms, but that would inevitably lead to an unwelcome hiking of prices in an area which needs all the good value options it can get.The Restaurant: I remember thinking (6 years agothat first impressions of the place, particularly the decor, all pointed to an expectation that this would be very average-at-best. In fact I was pleasantly surprised by the quality.I wish them continued success.
Give this idiosyncratic Hampstead gem a go: the food is delicious and it is almost never busy. I had a fantastic sirloin steak here the other night and my partner loved her perfectly cook pasta. See beyond the somewhat unusual decor for a tremendous dinner or lunch.
To be clear, there are two eating places here - an expensive restaurant and a cheap wine bar. Im reviewing the cheap wine bar here. Its a real hidden gem. Its fantastic value - a plate of pasta will costs around 6 pounds - and there is a nice villagy atmosphere. The interior is rustic and tasteful (with the exception of a slightly tacky blue signand the food is tasty. For a true hampstead experience I recommend walking from the station via holly hill and hampstead grove.
Everyone has or should have their favourite Italian restaurant and this is mine. Its a hidden gem in Hampstead for lovers of authentic Italian cuisine. Over the years I have been coming Lorenzo and the staff have made me feel like part of their family. I highly recommended it.
The staff at La Gaffe were flexible and welcoming. They were extremely accommodating of my wedding reception which I had only booked one week in advance! The food was absolutely fantastic and filling. On top of that the room I had reserved was delightful - my fiancé and I stayed in the honeymoon suite, a fitting end to such a lovely day.We were shown around and when we left we were told about where we could spend the day in the beautiful surrounding area. I cannot wait for my next visit, best gaff in London!
