La Fonda - Restaurant in Montevideo, Uruguay
Really good food. Sitting outside in the sun and shared a glass of wine and got a tasteful lunch - a perfect combination. When the service and food is as good as here it cannot get much better.I highly recommend this place.
Cozy. Food was served fast
Incredibly fresh food with magnificent flavors and welcoming staff. LOVED IT. Tandoori lamb with pureed sweet potatoes was fantastic.
Wonderful homemade pasta and bread. Friendly service. Highly recommend
A magnificent experience by the Mercado del Puerto. You can feel the love in each dish, since all ingredients are harvested on their farms. The waiters and hosts are muy amable.
Charming place, tasty food ⚘La Fonda is one of those recommendable places in the Old Town where you can feel comfortable and enjoy a good meal in a relaxed atmosphere.High ceilings, pleasant decoration, view of the kitchen, fresh ingredients, and a very attentive, friendly service. Reasonably priced.
Not impressed by the food, despite the good location and very friendly staff. The food uninspiring and pretty bland. Tortellini pretty tasteless served with an undercooked and acidic tomato sauce. The pan cooked beef was very oily an served with 2 small baked potato.Álvarez, an eatery further up the street is a much better option.
Delicious food and in a really nice, historic part of the city!
Best Pasta ever !! Friendly, very nice and very good food and service. Highly to recommend. Also very good vegan food.
This was a very quaint pasta restaurant that was a wonderful experience.
Absolutely fantastic restaurant.Hard to explain how delicious all dishes were.First of all, very cool concept having a daily changing menu, accenting local/regional ingredients. Both main dishes we tried, pasta and fish dishes, were incredible. Both were very unique and clearly very well made.Would absolutely love to come here again and would highly recommend anyone to visit.
Really friendly staff and excellent food
Cute spot! Great terrace! Amazing homemade pasta
Excellent, friendly service, fun atmosphere, and fantastic food.
La Fonda is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Im almost positive shes my soulmate. Napoleon, Im sure theres a babe for you out there too.Peace out.
Very nice place. The waitress was excellent!
Excellent environment, tasty food, good drinks, excellent waiters
A wonderful couple owns/runs this place. They opened early for two Americans that wanted a snack prior to 11:00 a m . We returned at regular lunch hours around 1:00 p.m. It is located right on the pedestrian walkway a few blocks from Mer Market.
A little less than I expected given all that I had heard about the place: great area in the Old City and the place had some charm but lacked a cosiness that it felt like they were trying for. The service was more food delivery than helpful but the food was quite good at lunch time with a broad selection and some interesting attempts. Not wowed but not disappointed worth another attempt.
Really tasty food. Good price for quality. But we waited 1h before getting served.
Amazing food, excellent service and good tanat.
Overpriced in general, we werent very satisfied either with the food or the service. We waited 40 minuts for our food and when it finally arrived it was ok, but not the quality that we were expecting. It was nice to get a welcome drink when we arrived. The waiters were nice but they were a little overwhelmed with the amount of tables they had and we had to ask several times every time we needed something.
Excellent atmosphere, great freshly made pasta friendly service credit cards accepted
The Cooker is an extraordinary lady, the food is great. The place is expensive and sort of snobbish but without delivering the proper service and ask 10%
After reading some of the earlier critical reviews, it was difficult equating those negative experiences with ours. We experienced nothing but an outstanding evening out. We were greeted as we came in and were quickly sat at our table with a delicious aperitif of sparkling wine mixed with passion fruit juice. Our hostess explained the meal options of the day in great detail in English. As we awaited our meal we were given an appetizer of freshly baked bread with house-made lentil pesto, both of which had tremendous flavor. The pasta and lamb dishes were expertly prepared and delicious, and our meal was topped with a fabulous offering of limoncello prepared exclusively by the chef that would rival any made in Sorrento. All through the meal we felt well attended without being pestered. Every phase was delicious, the ambiance was delightful, and our bill very reasonable for the quality of food and service. My wife declared La Fonda "a feast for the senses." We look forward to returning.
Food is tasteless. Service is slow. Feel like they don’t have enough staff. No one greets you at the door and sit you down. The only waitress was upset.
Quaint location and settling. Very nice wait staff. Unfortunately the kitchen was over whelmed on the night I ate here. I’m sure it’s usually better than this.
Not to be missed - not only excellent food but also an amazing experience 🙏🏻
Hands down one of the best meals! The kitchen is completely open which makes the whole experience even more amazing since the chef is super nice and clearly loves what he does!
Tasty salmon Salad at a cost of 340 pesos, long wait tho
Excellent food, cosy atmosphere and good service.
lovely place. freshly cooked, delicious food and very friendly staff.
Went here for lunch, slow cooked pork was delicious, thought it’s unusual choice of a lunch dish for non-uruguayians. Lunch includes a free glass of wine, which surprisingly was pretty descent.
we went here for dinner last night. the ambiance was fantastic. the lighting is very cosy and the service excellent. we really had a fantastic time because the staff was super friendly. the menu had alot of things to choose from. the prices were very affordable. although we has a few minutes wait, it was worth the wait.
One of my favourite restaurant experiences in South America. Sit close to the open kitchen so you can enjoy the cooking.
Lovely food. Friendly staff and the house wine was a cut above
Loved this place. The salteado was delicious, pork and mashed pumpkin was lovely and they put together some pasta and capers for our seven year old. Waitresses were all really helpful and spoke great English. A great location in the centre of town. Would recommend.
Amazing, fabulous, clean, friendly, good musicI never eaten something like that! Thx guys!
Wow. This was truly one of the worst meals Ive ever had in my life. Not only a rip off but terrible food. DO NOT GO HERE. I truly dont understand how there are so many good reviews for this place. First off, none of the dishes are less than 20 usd, fine we thought, they must be huge *or* extremely good- decent at worst. We were very wrong, the salteada de salmón y langostinos was disgusting, not only was the sauce very underseasoned, the shrimp actually tasted like it had gone bad before they cooked it- completely inedible. On top of that it was a tiny portion of food accompanied by a gigantic salad of only lettuce without any dressing. The waitress didnt even bring any olive oil or anything, I had to ask but by the time I could get her attention the meal was basically over. The lenguado was slightly better but still a very small portion and underseasoned.Basically, we paid way too much money for crappy food that didnt even get me full, I even considered going to a bar and getting some fries afterward but I already had spent way too much to justify buying more food. On top of all this, its weird space that did not quite feel like a restaurant (and not in a cool experimental way). At least they give you a discount for paying with a foreign card, but def not the best way to start a vacation!
Really enjoyed the meal here. They have a set menu every night but has a great selection of main courses and beverage ls. I has bife con papas and pollo Masala (mild curry). My steak was cooked to perfection. Wine good (recommend trying a tannat). Front room has candle light so bit difficult to see but added to the charm. Paid 47 euro for our main courses and two drinks but this is good for Montevideo. Pay with card and you get discount!
I love this place and the guys who run the restaurant couldnt be nicer. The menu changes constantly but Ive never had anything here I didnt love. When you order they make everything for you then. If you order pasta they make fresh pasta for you. If you sit in the front dining room its like your eating in the kitchen. If youre staying near the Mercado this is one of the few places open for dinner Thursday through Sunday. They normally have a waitperson who speaks English or Gabriel in the kitchen can help you. They take credit cards - visa for sure.
We just had drinks but it was a pleasant atmosphere and good service
fantastic and creative food. you can tell that every dish is prepared with high quality fresh ingredients.
Cant believe all the positive comments here - we were there at New years Eve and the staff - although nice - seemed to be completely overcharged. Our reservation for 8pm was confirmed - upon arrival they told us that they open at 9.30pm. So 1.5hrs lost...there were a lot of plates, 3 starters, 2 main courses and 3 deserts. Too much for us, we prefer smaller, but better dishes. Food was kind of okay, but nothing good or even overwhelming. The drinks were cheap artificial juices and cheap wines. The dinner itself was, however, not cheap at all - over 60 € per Person. Sorry but we were disappointed.
Very nice and lovely place.. you would love the ambience and the food is cooked right in front of you.. organic..
Good sized portions. Fair price. All the dishes were very healthy and cooked right in front of you. Both dishes arrived 10 after we ordered. Waitress was super nice as she explained every single dish (they dont have a menu cause it changes too often)Would totally come back.
Excellent food and served SUPER FAST. The dishes were amazingly tasty but somehow light, the service was great and the music was good but not too loud. You can see everything being cooked at the moment you order it. Definitely a good place to go.
Amazing restaurant, excellent food and great service! Highly recommended! The pasta is a true highlight...
By far the best place to eat in the old town. The food is cooked with love by Mario and the place is run with a genuine smile from Ricardo. You CAN NOT miss here. Go, and then go again, and then go again.
A great place to visit, Mario, the chef, is a great cook and makes his own pasta in full view of the customers! Nice place near the harbour and vegan food is available here!I was one of the first customers and liked them from the very beginning!
