La Cueva Del Mar - Caribbean restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Why does this restaurant have 4.7 stars????Food took over 30min to get.Every Dishes were tooooo salty, couldn’t eat.Shrimp was fishy….Tuna sesame salad, tuna was terrible.Overall, bad taste and serving time was too long….and not reasonable. I wanted to get money back…
Amazing service, even better food. Our bartender Hector is on point!!!! Recommend 100%
A great local favorite 🤩… Two friends brought me here for the BEST MOFUNGO on the Island!!They did not disappoint!! The hostess and waitress were great and made our evening quite enjoyable.
Excellent food, great service and a Pina Colada that is out of this world! Best meal I had on my vacation to Puerto Rico! We felt very welcome coming here. Nice crowd and good atmosphere. We had the Famous Fish Tacos and Red Snapper...EXCELLENT! We will DEFINITELY return on our next trip to Puerto Rico. Thank you for making our last night a memorable one!
Whole fried red snapper was good...not great. Calamari was very good. There is a dipping sauce on the table which i loved. They said it was avocado sauce, but to me it tasted a little tart, and a little spicy, with oregano. Be advised: "spicy crab" is code for "imitation crab". The spicy crab avocado was tasty nonetheless. Server was great. Food came promptly. I would say good, not great, seafood.
Great food with great service. Our server is so nice and fun, she recommended us the best seafood we had in Puerto Rico.
This is my second time eating here and both times I had the fried red Snapper. Delicious. Fresh. Tasty and the waiters were all friendly. Definately recommend.
We had dinner here on a Friday night & it was really fun. Lively atmosphere! We ate on the back patio & enjoyed the vibe there. All the food was really yummy (we ate it too fast to snap a pic!). I got the fish tacos & they were fantastic!
The food was soo good! The oysters were so fresh. Everything was such a great experience
My family (group of 3and I were so excited to eat here after seeing the great reviews. When we arrived around 7pm, there was a 25 min wait. So we were willing to wait, considering wed hope the food was worth it. We were then seated after the brief wait, right after the group before us (right beside a super intense air conditioner and these freaky looking moisture bubbles over our table, mom was uncomfortable). We put in our appetizer orders once the waters came out, then our main dishes. We sat there for well over an hour and watched the group that came in a little before us, and 2 groups seated after us all get there appetizers AND main food. We were super patient the entire evening. When we asked about it, the waitress didnt seem apologetic about anything or forgetting to put in our appetizers. By that point we just left. I am pregnant so couldnt take the feeling of being forgotten AND super hungry anymore. I think sitting for over a hour is more then enough time to try. Super disappointing way to end our first evening in PR. Hopefully well have better experiences at other places out here.
Me and my husband absolutely loved this place, we went there twice! The food does not disappoint, every dish is delicious.
Started as an afternoon “Chinchorreo” in Piñones and ends fortunately in this place. Long time no visit, always full but service still considered fast. Our orders took little time to come to the table. All of them was very good the “shrimp tacos”the “salmon in tamarind sauce”and the “mahi mahi in coconut sauce”.Always a safe option to eat here.
Fresh seafood. Nice friendly staff. Definitely try fish tacos these are the best food at this place, everything else was good too but the tacos were the best
Sangria was delicious and the fish tacos were awesome. My wife has been wanting to try the chuleta can-can and wasnt disappointed. Service was great and the atmosphere was laid back.
Good was just ok to me. Maybe it was what we got. Margarita was excellent
Olga was awesome and the food was fantastic!!! Rice with crab meat, grill octopus and the red snapper. Ill come back again +++
The best lobster in San Juan and reasonably prices. Flex was our waiter and has been for many years. Best service!
I definitely recommend this place food is delicious! Seafood rice el mofongo too the only thing is the tostones de pana arent done right way they tasted nothing like I previously had them
A little wait (coming from a mainlander), but the food and drinks were well worth it.At least tied for best meal weve had in PR this week.
Huge lobster tail with a great price!Sea food rice tasted great.!
We got there right before the crowds so the service was excellent and the food was good. We tried the fish tacos because they were highly rated, but nothing too special. We also tried the croquettes, mamposteao, and shrimp empanada. Typical pub grub. I think this is more of a place to hang with friends than as a foodie destination. Mamposteao was a highlight.
Great service, excellent food. Recommended.
Had the grouper ceviche, which was the ceviche of the day (8/10), and also the red snapper(10/10). Both came with a side.Good service. Waited roughly 15 mins for a table for two. Reasonable pricing - slightly higher than average around the area.
This restaurant is one of my favorites when it comes to seafood. The flavor is excellent, atmosphere and very great hosting. I always love the Red Snapper. Totally recommend.
Cool vibe, full bar. Bartenders were nice and spoke English. We had 4 beers, 1 appetizer and the fish tacos. Fish tacos had huge chunks of white fish! Tuna nachos were delicious too (pictured). Came here for a late lunch. Total was $46 before tip.
Amazing seafood and Puerto Rican criollo cuisine at fantastic prices. The service is top notch.Def order any
Didn’t get a picture of the god but it was flavorful. Only problem was the server didn’t ask if we had any allergies and they put ham in the beans and rice and beans so it was a problem for my husband but my food was good! We both had chicken chunks and eventually had to settle for white rice, I’m able to eat ham so I had no problem, brands are flavorful.
Reasonably priced items and great food. All the items seafood combo, day’s special fish whole fish fry and burger tasted delicious and Empanadas were my personal favorite. Waitress was very friendly and helpful as well.Strong Suggestion - Do not order a takeout from this place. As we were sitting near the packing counter, we encountered the employee taking a bite out of the food and packing them.
This place had a steady stream of customers on Monday night and the food was authentic! Nothing too fancy as food is served on styrofoam plates but the food is no joke!Mofongo with Cajun Shrimp - the sauce with this was delicious and it was my first time trying mofongo!Meat Paella - can’t go wrong with rice and meat! It was on the saltier side but still was yummy.Fried pork belly with plantain chips - this one was made super well and was delicious. The pork belly was seasoned to perfection and oh so crispy. The plantain chips surrounding it were such a great snack and had the best crunch.Drinks - the pain killer was super yummy! Strong and delicious 😉 we also tried the caribbean rum punch which was good but in my opinion not as good as the pain killer drink!Would recommend it if youre in the area and looking for a chill place for some authentic Puerto Rican foods!
Pio was a fabulous server and Felix did an excellent job as well. Don’t order the calamari but definitely order the fish tacos and the margaritas! They also serve non alcoholic beer which is a plus!
Service was 10/10 my service forgot her name I’m so sorry very nice young lady so patient. As for the food my fish was a little salty. Place was busy so I’ll give them a second try. The rice was on point it literally made me give them the 5 star.
We didnt have a lot of time before we had to leave town and decided to make a pit stop here. In and out was an hour max (super quick service!). Ordered the Alfredo dish and fried snapper, along with the jerky empanadas and lobster empanadas as appetizers. Prices are very reasonable and the food was spectacular! The lobster empanada was so-so but Jesus was the jerky one just mouth watering. Cant exactly describe the sensation and satisfaction into words. The fried snapper was exceptional. Very fresh. Bathrooms are also surprisingly clean for being as busy as they are.
Great place for seafood. They have a good selection of fish and other seafood with some 10 different ways of getting your fish prepared. They also have a good selection of local dishes. The mojito with ginger was excellent but the frozen margarita was not the best. Nice atmosphere.
Came here my first night in Puerto Rico after checking into my nearby hotel. Fish tacos were so good (especially with their sauces - I believe it was spicy Mayo and green hot sauce?great coconut mojitos, too!
Dish Flavors were ok but a bit plain/bland, and punched up w salt. Was really looking for an amazing meal and experience based on the 2000 5 star reviews! Unfortunately, for the $15-20 per dish price point, and the end flavors— the value wasn’t there IMO. Los Angeles native here, eaten in MX, Spain, n Portugal — my search for unique flavors will continue. Onto the next!Tip: Budget ~ 1hr for food to arrive to table in total (from wait to order to food served). No problem but just plan ahead!
Easily one of my favorite places in the area for authentic, FLAVORFUL, comida criolla. I come at least two Wednesdays out of the month for either the pernil w arroz con gandules and potato salad or the fricase de pollo, both of which are delicious. The chillo frito, chicharrones de pescado, and fish tacos are all super tasty. Another go to of mine, are the chicharrones de pollo with the arroz mamposteao. The pieces of chicken were fried to perfection, crispy and juicy. The rice 🤤, never disappoints. Would 100% recommend the restaurant. Don’t forget to get a mojito.
What an amazing experience. By far the best south american food ever. The black in rice with Calamari was so different. The starters too. The lobster was amazing as well.
Amazing experience, great food and service, by far one of the best places if you want to eat "Criollo" dishes. The food was delicious and fresh, serving sizes are plenty and prices are affordable. As appetizers we had "croquetas de jamon", which they melt in your mouth, and an "empanadilla de churrasco" which was so good. Our main course was a "Chillo and tostones de pana" and an "Empenada con arroz mamposteau". Both dishes were great. Ingredients were fresh, and food was tasty and well seasoned. We were catered really well. Manuel, the waiter, was quick and always on top of the tables he was assigned to.The ambience was great, although the music was a bit high where we were sitting, so having conversations was a bit difficult. The place has a sports bar feel to it.Covid protocol was still active, vaccine IDs are asked for at the door and wearing masks are a requirement.
Service was really very good. Food was also great. Kind of noisy though. Still the place is worth visiting since overall everything else was very nice. Recommended.
Excellent food and service! I was only in town 2 days and enjoyed it so much that I went for lunch and dinner. The mofungo is excellent, seafood done perfectly, and the coconut flan is wonderful. Even the coffee con leche was perfect. Highly recommend!
The service was great. However, the food had way too much sauces , the bacon burger didn’t have bacon, the alcapurrias did not have meat inside, and there wasn’t two of the desserts we asked for.Overall It was good, but there are better places for the same price
Delicious lunch for good price and good service! Our waitress was really friendly, we got chicken empanadas and beef jerky, the chicken ones were def best for the value. Their classic fish tacos were also tasty. They have spicy avocado and mayoketchup for garnishing your own tacos too. Pina colada was also good!
I loved the food at this place. The fish was wonderful. I really recommend you to come here to eat a good food. They sell also different kind of drinks
Amazing! I am still dreaming about this food! The staff was awesome, the waiter was awesome...I wish I could live in PR just for the food! Just wow! U cant beat excellent food amd excellent customer service and the food was at a great price, not cheap but not expensive. I love this place!
Great local spot with good drinks and amazing food selection. The menu is extensive. We had the fried red snapper (you chooseand the calamari rice with squid ink. Amazing. Friendly staff! Has wi-fi.
Omg!!! Riquísimo! Me encantó!!! Best food in puerto rico! Absolutely amazing and good prices!!! Come try it!!!
This one is a must. Alejandro, our waitor, made excellent suggestions and worked with our plan to make a family style meal, all shared. Lobster, snapper, fish tacos, ceviche and empanadas. A vibrant feeling place with fresh off the boat fish. Lots of locals and well out of the touristy areas. The neighborhood looks rough, but thats where gems are often found.
Amazing food and super attentive staff! Overall great atmosphere and a must to try!
Wish I found this gem earlier on my trip.Great affordable prices & the food is made fresh.Definitely recommend the shrimp or fish tacos! The deserts are delicious and the drink prices are within my budget. I enjoyed my meal here and will be returning some time in the future!
The only reason why Im not giving this place 5 stars is because of our 2nd trip back to it. We LOVED it the first day. Waited 6 days and went back. First day was AWESOME. Great service, short wait, great waitress great food. From fish tacos to calamari and arroz con pollo. Every dish we had was SUPERB! Even the mojitos. We liked it so much we went back 6 days later. But that all changed.. Long wait, bad service. It felt like the manager was just trying to sell is on different dishes. However that was a good idea to do to travelers who normally cant read Spanish menus.. but this traveler can. The check wasnt even split this time. He said it was all one check. But the first time, we had this older blond lady who helped us over the top and was Excellent at customer service. She made our experience great the first time. Wish we had her the 2nd time but we didnt.
