La Clandestina - Bar in Cuauhtemoc, Mexico
La Clandestina in Cuauhtemoc
Description
Very cool atmosphere , good drinks
They have a huge selection of mezcal and the staff is very very friendly. I would really recommend this places to the ones that want to discover this wonderful beverage.
MoreCool bar, the cocktails were a bit too sweet for my taste, but the vibe is awesome.
MoreAmazing!! Cool and dl vibe. Good mezcal. Gets busy but still good service. At night gets the intimate romantic vibe inside, great for a date or a chill conversation with a friend. It’s not a huge place so some tables can be a bit tight so be cool about rubbing shoulders with the neighbors.
MoreA little Oaxaca feel ♡ Good cocktails if youre looking for cocktails. I ended up buying a bottle of Mezcal - Madrecuise - to bring back with me to the states.
MoreDrinks were amazing but the service was terrible. I would have loved to try more drinks. The first drink took over 30 minutes to arrive and our waiter seemed upset when we ordered the bill and was rude. We were there Saturday night 6/18
MoreHad a great time and even took a mezcal bottle home!It was our first time in a Mezcal bar and Abril, our waiter, guided us to choose the mezcal that suited our taste. We tried more than six completely unique mezcals in the two times we visited the bar. Outdoor seating is available, but if you seat inside near the entrance you’ll have a great view of the mezcal setup. The cocktails are also delicious so if you’re looking to either enjoy your mezcal straight or a refreshing cocktail, you can’t go wrong. The only thing that would deter some is that you most add a plate to your order. We had recently dined so we ordered the olives which were light and a perfect complement to the mezcal we ordered.Definitely coming back when we visit Mexico City again.
MoreAmazing choices of mezcal. Do a lil pre-research before u head out.
Favourite mezcaleria in town. No frills simple bar with a huge selection of mezcales.
MoreA beautifully cozy bar indoors, with outdoor seating. Great music. Knowledgeable AND friendly staff + a world class selection of Mezcal. Plenty of great beer options and other liquors. If you are into Mezcal, put this on your list as a must visit while in CDMX.
MoreGreat place for a couple or a ton of beer and mezcal! Highly recommended! Nice food too by the way! The place is small but that is what makes it unique and special
MoreTourist trap. Felt really crowded and not Covid safe. Bathrooms are also gross. I ordered 3 mescals to taste and it took 45 minutes to get them. Then another 30 minutes to get the bill - we had to physically go up to the bar to find someone to finally pay. Also most of the staff don’t speak English (despite it serving almost 100% tourists). So when we ordered the mescal, it just plopped down in front of us, nobody even explained what was what. Save your time and go somewhere else
MoreWe came in for "first in the lifetime mezcal" experience and we were not disappointed. The recommendations were thoughtful and on point. Their cocktails were also very nice. Guacamole con chorizo was everyones favorite!
MoreHard to overstate the variety and quality of mezcals, the friendliness of the staff, or the quality of their recommendations. The fried crickets were also amazing.
MoreWe were asking several times to take the order and we had to go to the counter because they never came to take the order. When we asked for a second drink, the same thing happened, we asked for the bill and they brought us the wrong one. At the time of payment, the waiter added a 30% tip without even asking and until now I realized, since at the time of making the charge the amount does not appear in the terminal. Besides that the place was dirty and smelled of sweat. I would never go back.
MoreWaiter was too busy flirting with some girls. When he finally came, he asked us to order food, otherwise they wont serve you drinks. What a bar. Just go next doors, nice beers and jazz music. No mandatory food, even though the previous waiter gave us some fairly tale about it being a covid regulation.Edit: reply: No its not. I hope enough people will tell you its not ok, so you stop this scam. No you wont see me again.
MoreLoved this mezcaleria bar. Large selection of mezcals, great ambience and helpful staff that helped navigate the menu. Ordered a taster (4 mezcalsand a few cocktails, all very tasty. Also ordered the guacamole which came with chips and chicharrones; we’re vegetarian so asked for more chips. Overall highly recommended and will be back
MoreAmazing cocktails, try the kiwi drink
Good ambiance/music, but full of American tourists. Staff will speak English to you. Cocktails were just okay.
MoreGood small bar with some mezcal. If you are with friends then a cool spot to spend some time. Just sit outside and enjoy your drinks in nice mexico weather.
MoreSuper cute mezcal bar with food and tasty cocktails. The atmosphere is great and the staff are lovely.
MoreI was here with friends on May 28th and my credit card was charged the same amount three times. Ive waited over a week now to see if it got resolved/cleared and the three charges still remain on my statement. Ive reported the fraud to my credit card company, but ask that you reach out to me asap to get this resolved and refund me the two erroneous charges. Ive had nothing but good experiences in Mexico, but this was disappointing.Edit: In speaking to my friends from that night, we discovered that the waiter had charged my card three times, another friend once, and the other two friends hadnt been charged at all. Not exactly what one expects when giving the waiter four credit cards to split evenly. Weve worked it out between ourselves--no need for a refund anymore--but not particularly professional either.
MoreMy favorite place ever. If you are a mezcal lover, you must try this place.Normally this bar is full of people on weekends. So that you might wait a bit. If it is, the bar next to this place is also a good option.
MoreOur server was very patient with us and spent a lot of time explaining several different options for mezcal and recommended some good ones. Papalote axaxacualco is fermented in cowhide and the flavor is so amazing, its incredibly smooth. The atmosphere was excellent as well, a bit dark perhaps. But keep on mind youre doing the coolest thing in the coolest part of Mexico City and our experience was so great.
MoreLove La Clandestina. Super cool bar with amazing cocktails. We had the Hoja Santa which has kiwi and pinapple and the ponche which is very fruity with cinnamon flavor. Both were soo good! It’s a little tight in the bar but I think that’s that charming part about this place.
MoreWow! Please take time to visit this amazing location. Amazing service, delicious food, and the BEST variety of mezcal in CDX!!
MoreKind of overrated, its a nice place with interesting cocktails, good price and its quite popular with tourists/backpackers. Nice to give it a try, not very comfortable but good music.
MoreNice little hipster mezcal bar perfect for your afternoon or night out. The place is kind of dark but it make it romantic, but chairs can be a little too small if you plan to spend a lot of time there. The service is really nice. The price is a little high but mezcal offered is good quality, so it is worth it.
MoreFantastic spot for mezcal lovers. They have a great variety of styles available and knowledgeable staff (you’ll need to speak a bit of Spanish to engage them entirely, though). Food is also on point, especially tlayudas.
MoreGreat drinks and cool vibes. They specialize in mezcal drinks and have some food + snack options. Both of the drinks we got were delicious! And we had the guacamole, which had a smoky unique flavor that I enjoyed. We even came back a second night to have it again, but the guacamole wasnt the same the second time :( which was a total bummer. Plus we had their ribeye tacos which were mediocre.
MoreExcellent variety of small batch mezcal, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Nice that you can enjoy drinks on the patio as well. We tried each of the tastings (agave and espadinand each had two winners and two we preferred less. However as a collection they illustrated well the diversity of flavors possible through different production and distillation processes. Would recommend to those wanting to learn more!
MoreOne of my favorite bars in Mexico
Delicious food and drinks! I had the cucumber cocktail and the kiwi and prickly pear cocktail. Both were really good! The veg tlayuda was also delicious. Customer service wasn’t so great. Our server was very cold and she kept acting like it was a bother to serve us.
MoreJust bought 5 bottles of their no. 6. Super smooth. Very nice vibe, good crowd, great music. Fantastic date spot or after work happy hour with friends or coworkers.
MoreI tried guacamole with crickets for the first time here. They were surprisingly really tasty....and crunchy. Cool little spot with indoor and outdoor seating.
MoreGreat mezcalería with a cozy vibe to it. Fantastic atmosphere and a reasonable variety of different types of mezcal; great for trying out different agaves. The place is small and gets crowded expect to wait on the bar for a few minutes.
MoreSuper cozy and fun Mezcal bar, with amazing food! The guacamole was the best Ive tried and they have spicy crickets (an Oaxacan specialtyon the menu. The cocktails are delicious.
MoreThe food is really good. The atmosphere is that that great. The place is dark, but is not a romantic setting. The seats and tables are small and very uncomfortable. I had to continue adjusting because I couldn’t feel comfortable on the stool. The food can easily fall to the floor because the tables are not stable.Visitors smoke right in front of the door, so all that smoke go back inside. The place is small and seems to get crowded with just a few people.I recommend it to eat in the afternoon, but I don’t find it to be a good bar to hang out.
MoreVery cool vibe with a large mescal list. Cosy place, almost hole in the wall, but pretty trendy with good wait staff.
MoreA small bar serving a huge selection of mescal. The staff are helpful finding something you might like. Getting seats is difficult at night (went on a Thursday). The cocktails are interesting and have some interesting flavour combinations.
MoreHad a great time here tasting Mescal. The place has a really nice calm vibe to it with tons of options of Mescal to choose from. Our server was very knowledgeable so we opted to simply let him pick a few Mezcals for us to taste. I highly recommend checking this spot out if youre interested in tasting a variety of Mescal.
MoreAmazing mezcal tasting experience... did not know this spirit was so complex and delicious. Daniel took us on a sensory journey and we tasted 4 mezclas and had 2 cocktails. Highly recommend if you want to learn more about this traditional, artisanal spirit. Can’t wait to come back for more!
MoreAwesome bar - cool design, bar tenders were very friendly and open to making suggestions and explaining the differences between their 20ish Mezcals. Food was good. Notably - not very large. Max table is probably 6 people.
MoreThis was such a fun, hip and trendy place to go to. Usually speakeasys don’t want tourists but I’ve never encountered such friendly staff. They were eager to share their mezcal with us and teach us about the different techniques used to make them. For 5 mezcal shots (30mlour bill was 700 pesos. Delicious, fun, romantic. I loved the mood and vibe here.
MoreWe went here after dinner and its a very small place but with cozy lights and the highlight is the mezcal wall and the cocktails. The mezcal menu in itself is huge. They have snacks too but we didnt get to try them. The free ones were ok. It was definitely a touristy spot which is good if you want to meet other travelers in town.
MoreThe drinks are great, and the mezcal selection is outstanding. We didnt bother look at the menu, we told our server what we liked and she brought us the best mezcals. I also had the avocado cocktail (with a whole smashed avocado in it), it was creamy and wonderful.
MoreA little hard to find, but you’ll figure it out. You can taste different mezcal here. Sizes offered: 50ml, 100ml, 450ml, or 500ml. The staff is wonderful, the mezcal are interesting, and the bar snacks are delicious.
MoreBest cocktails Ive had. Well balanced, original and not too sweet. Very nice atmosphere too.
MoreDrinks are delicious and the place is pretty hip. The mezcal selection is extensive and the staff is nice. It is a pretty laid back and chill spot. I really cant say anything negative, other than I wasnt inspired to do more than just have one drink. That said, I had a positive experience here and would come back with a large group of friends.
MoreExcellent selection of small batch mezcal, if thats your thing. Cocktails were delicious, full of exotic fruits. It gets really busy so even though service is friendly and expert, you may have to wait for your drinks.
