Stylish Italian restaurant with brick walls and 18th-century barrel vault dining room in the cellar.
La Caverna Restaurant and Wine Bar in Dublin
Description
Privilege
We just had the most outstanding dining experience, excellent food, extensive vegan menu and amazing service. Shout-out to Denisa our waitress for the night for being the dopest on the ropest. Every question we had, she answered. Every set-up we laid, she finished. Every conundrum we posed, she solved. Truly, and without exaggeration, this was the peak of fine-dining, a night we will be recalling for the rest of our lives. This restaurant and Denisa are a treasure, well-hidden, but a worthy plunder for the pure-hearted Dublin-wanderer.
MoreOut of ribeye however I went for the Lamb Shank and it was the best Ive ever had. Pasta dish we ordered was again outstanding. Calamari Started was really tasty. Water was warm with no ice same with the coke. Waitress was pleasant.
MoreAsked for a quiet seat when booking, they sat us inbetween a walkway, a bar and a table with an english hen party.Loud pop music playing like they were trying to be a club or something.Starter and main were really mid, price did not reflect on quality of food, or even temperature. The real shocker was the tiramisu, absolute joke it was a small bowl of a*se.Waitress was nice, the hostesses was a true sour grape though and couldn’t be bothered with customers. Waste of money and time coming here.
MoreReally nice atmosphere and well located, food did seem a bit basic though. I was expecting proper italian style wood fired pizzas but the ones we had were just a bit greasy and nothing special. The bruschetta was nice though and they did do a dessert for my boyfriends birthday. Just a bit disappointed with the food.
MoreThats a great place to eat with a large group of people. We had 24 and the hostess took care of everybody so well. Shes got a good memory. didnt forget anybodys drink not even once.
MoreWe had dinner in this very nice restaurant. The ambiance is great and the service quick and very kind. The dishes were delicious and the price is fair. From outside it looks unremarkable but inside it’s really nice. So, you should step in and have a look. We can definitely recommend this location.
MoreItalian restaurant??? NOThe grilled squid was the same fried calamari but cooked maybe in the grill...was like gum.Id ask for a t-bone medium-rear and when they got me the steak was between medium and medium welI, when i told that to the waitress she was rude with me about the complain...Tortellini is for sure from the shop....The Tiramisù wasnt Tiramisù, was made with cream and not with Mascarpone.Im Italian and Im working as a chef, thats my point of view about this place...The only good things in this restaurant are the wine menù and the liquors. But, how you can sell amazing wine like barolo of Borgogno with food like that??NO WAY, Ill never go in that place again.
MorePerfect example of a bad attempt at Italian food.Extremely overpriced and one of those cases in which high ratings at Google Maps do not correspond to reality. Staff was friendly but the rest was terrible.
MoreLa Cavernas vegan menu needs a lot of improvement. I appreciated that they had many options however they were extremely disappointing and I would have eaten elsewhere if I was aware of the quality.NB. Their bolognaise is served with Penne not spaghetti as its the only vegan shape they have. If you have an aversion to penne as a shape, avoid. In addition their vegan parmesan was more akin in shape and taste to a bland vegan mozzarella.
MorePlace was great. Good service and nice atmosphere. Everyone had a great pizza and appetizers, plus cocktails and wine was on point. The only thing I can mention is that the carbonara that I got was cold and chunky, but the pizzas were great
MoreGood food! Very tasty and with good quality. Staff is friendly and helpfull. The location is a little bit special with all the mirrors but still nice. Prices are more on the high end.
MoreAlways a great meal and a great atmosphere. It can be quite loud at times
Tonight we (Canadiansvisited your restaurant and Redwin gave the best service that we have experienced on our two week holiday; he greeted us with a smile and a warm welcome, got everything correct with our order, checked on us during our meal (the only other server that did this was at the castle we stayed at and we paid dearly for that serviceand said kind words when it was time to do more touring of this awesome City.I have no idea how the 3 of them accomplished everything on the two levels-amazing. A gal was there at the end of the night and she was a gem too.Wishing your business all the BEST!Sloncha!😉
MoreWent here for a business dinner. Food was excellent - and service was great too.We did walk passed the place - its not the easiest to find as the signage isnt great/clear.Would recommend the Salmon Pasta main!
MoreAn excellent restaurant with a excellent plates. Generous in portions and delicious !! We took the spaghetti carbonara and tortellini with cream cheese (i ask for having Goat cheese in it and Omg juste awesomeand everything was perfect ! The staff are absolutely lovely and charming !! I absolutely recommand this restaurant !! The place to go for italian food !! Thank you very much for everything and keep going.
MoreVery good quality food for a great price, especiallyin temple bar. Down stairs is extremely romantics, would highly recommend for a date night.
MoreWent for mid-week dinner with my wife. A bit underwhelming experience. Staff was nice. Wine list was a bit confusing - i.e. a red wine among white wines, producers not clearly listed. We had two house wines and both were average, for the price you get much nicer wines at other restaurants.Starters were alright - minestrone soup and salad, not exceptional but enjoyable. Mains were uninspiring, they felt like home made dishes by someone who’s not a passionate cook. Vegetable risotto had many types of veggies and lot of tomato sauce, wasn’t too salty (which I appreciatebut felt somehow normal. My wife’s pasta was disappointing, it was overcooked at least 2 minutes past al dente and felt like cheap supermarket pasta, with many broken pieces. Servings were huge but we’d prefer smaller quantity with better quality.Overall the least impressive Italian restaurant that we’ve been to, at least in Dublin.
MoreAmazing restaurant went on my first date there some years ago and am currently a daddy to a little girl from the lady I brought here☺ loved the food staff wor nice and to was the wine lol all in all great restaurant
MoreIve been here a number of times now for work night get togethers. There is a table in the wine cellar that can accommodate 12 or possibly even more people. Its a very nice dining experience for a work team as you can talk pretty much privately without much distraction. Ideal for ice breakers etc. The staff are excellent and the food has always been on point. The location is also very central and an ideal starting point for a night out. I would recommend. Check out the dusty wines in the cellar :)
MoreThe pizzas here are great. Normally Im not a big fan of the crust, but here they have a unique crust thats simply delicious. The location is also unique, its not too crowded and the staff was very friendly.
MoreTo the welcoming staff of La Caverna, I was extremely disappointed in my experience earlier this evening. After having spent some time carefully choosing a lovely restaurant to bring my girlfriend to on her birthday for a surprise, when I arrived with her at your restaurant I was met with welcoming staff who had no details of my reservation. This was okay at first and did not bother me, but what did bother me was the total lack of kindness, or accommodating attitude for the confusion that occured. There was no apology, or even an understanding smile. Just a total lack of concern for us. The waitress who brought us to our table was very unfriendly in this situation and not at all accommodating, we felt very unwelcome and uncomfortable, as if it had been our mistake to not be on the reservation list.I had specifically asked to be seated downstairs in the cellar area as it looked like the perfect atmosphere for a nice date, but instead we were brought upstairs to a quite empty part of the restaurant.Overall you had ruined my partners birthday as it left her feeling very upset and uncomfortable, and she wanted to leave immediately. Please in future be more accommodating of your guests as I believe a friendly host is an extremely important part of a fine dining experience. Im sure your food is delicious and the great reviews you receive are well deserved, this is why I came here in the first place. But I wont be coming again as I was shocked by how unwelcoming your hosts were tonight
MoreI was happy to have found an Italian restaurant with a good vegan menu, but unfortunately the quality of food wasnt great. The spinach tart was tasteless, the risotto was definetly made by non Italian since the veggy were almost raw and the brownie as well not tasty.
MoreIm so happy I found this restaurant. They offer a separate vegan menu including appetizers, main courses, deserts and wines too. I love the fact that they point out that everyone can order these dishes - not only vegans 😉 we went for the garlic bread, the lasagne and the Bolognese pasta. Everything was so good!! The stuff is very friendly and fast. We had a great night, thank you!PS location and price combination is also something to point out
MoreExcellent restaurant! 🤌🏻Very good food, very good staff and perfect serving! The waitress is extremely friendly and charismatic!!For sure will return here!
MoreRight in the middle of Dublin, Caverna offers not only a quiet and cozy place to hide from the hustle, but delicious Italian food. In fact, some of the best I’ve tasted anywhere (Italy included). It’s a must for every gourmand in love with fine eating. Prices are decent, serving time as well, and the personnel is more than friendly and eager to be at your service. Denisa was especially warm and responsive to our needs, and she really made our whole experience here a lot better than it already was. Will surely be back and recommend the place.
MoreAmazing amazing service!! Everyone was so kind! They have an extensive wine menu! Sitting downstairs in the cellar room was fun! Our food was good, no complaints, but not the best Italian I’ve had!
MoreIts good. I wouldnt say its a super authentic (the carbonara has cream in it for exampleor outstanding Italian place but you will get a good dinner. Portion sizes are pretty decent too. Service was good. Cellar seating was ideal for an atmospheric setting.
MoreI planned a 50th birthday supper for my wife and her twin sister. I had done some research on good places to eat while in Dublin and to be honest I’m always a bit nervous that expectations won’t be met. We were happily surprised that not only did they meet our expectations but they exceeded them. The food was AMAZING. We highly recommend and will definitely be back our next visit to Dublin.
MoreThe Griffins were a party of 18 for dinner last night and everyone is saying the same thing. The food was amazing & compliments to the staff for the attention we received. They went above & beyond to ensure we had a great night & they added to the Craic on the night. We will all be back again. Cant recommend highly enough. Thanks to all. Sandra
MoreAn amazing Italian restaurant. Good menu, very reasonable priced and the food is amazing
MoreDelicious food and great service. Having recently walked out of a nearby Italian restaurant due to poor service, we didnt have a booking but the lovely staff at La Caverna were able to accommodate. Would definitely recommend.
MoreThe food is amazing and the staff is super friendly. We tried different dishes and it was all delicious. They really make you feel comfortable. Highly recommended!
MoreThe service was absolutely wonderful! We just loved the service! We received the kindest welcome, the most honest information about theur great variety of good wines, a useful orientation about food and desserts, and coffee too.The really respect the client and attend in such an empathic way. We have come back for the great food, sometimes just to drink an specific tasty wine or dessert, but weve deeply enjoyed our time there always!Lots of blessings to your team!
MoreJust had the most amazing Garlic Bread and pizza, my wife had the lamb shank and son finished his spaghetti. We are all going back as far as possible. Service was wonderful and food was awesome. We are all full but could eat more just to get that taste again!
MoreGreat restaurant! My boyfriend took me here for a surprise dinner and it was lovely! It has three floors so plenty of space, they also have a large wine selection! Boyfriend and I ordered the bruschetta, the lamb shank and the sirloin. Cannot recommend the bruschetta enough, if you’re gonna order anything order that (and also the peppercorn sauce is divine). If you’re looking for a romantic dinner restaurant (albeit a little bit on the pricey sidethis is perfect!
MoreThe food was good. Unfortunately, the waiting times were too long. In addition, some of the items ordered never arrived and were then shown twice on the bill.We booked a table online and had to give a credit card in case we didnt show up (10 euro fee- which is absolutely legitimate. Two days after the visit, we were charged 70 euros for not showing up, even though we were there. When we then went to the restaurant again to claim this back, we were not exactly received in a friendly manner. First she denied that we were here at all, then she claimed that she had asked us about the reservation (we said that we had a table for 7, then we were shown to the tableand finally she said that we were there too early (3 minutes). In the end, after a long discussion, we got our money back. All in all, weak - contradictory statements, unfriendly service and only after a long discussion did we justifiably get our money back.I cant recommend it. These unjustified settlements could have a system.
MoreGreat food, good service, cozy atmosphere, little pricey but worth it. The lamb shank was amazing, comes with mashed potato, veggies and a hearty sauce. Good wine selection.
MoreExcellent restaurant in Temple bar for some Italian cuisine. One of the floors in the restaurant is like an underground cellar with brick walls, which is very cool. The food itself was amazing, and cant fault it. The staff were super attentive and friendly and the service was top class. Would definitely recommend.
MoreVery tasty food! Lamb meat was great. I will come back there. Thank you for great service!
MoreAbsolutely amazing ! We had our staff party in their wine cellar downstairs very cosy and beautiful. Service and food were up to standards and expectations. Thank you to Dan and Co for an amazing night to remember !
MoreA lovely Italian restaurant right in the centre of Dublin, serving the most delicious, freshly cooked food.we visited this gorgeous Italian restaurant whilst on a short break in Dublin. We hadn’t booked and they were very busy but they managed to book us a table for forty five minutes later. We were not disappointed! Although they were very busy and they did appear to be short staffed, the staff were lovely, very pleasant and kept us up to date with the progress of our order. The food was delicious, quite obviously freshly cooked and beautifully presented. The atmosphere here is wonderful and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend but book beforehand, it is very popular!
MoreHome style cuisine with very welcoming staff. Expected a bit more from wine selection - good quality house wine, but nothing special for a wine lover. Price/quality ratio is great for the Temple Bar area.
MoreLovely little restaurant in the heart of Temple Bar. Food here is spot on, with everything cooked to perfection. Gorgeous desserts and very nice wine and craft beer really made our visit such a pleasure, on what was a very grey and rainy day in Dublin. Staff are lovely here and looked after us very well. Definitely recommend a visit here. We will come back again soon.
MoreHave a really nice meal here. We ordered the bread as an appetiser. It was amazing. Then we had the vegan risotto and the vegan lasagna. Amazing as well. And we finished off with the vegan brownie. So good.I’d recommend this place to anyone, really.Portions are nicely sized, and the food tastes amazing!
MoreEDIT: the owner seems to think I’m ridiculing them out of spite. The “halal” wasn’t accommodating, you stated you do halal chicken. That was it. It’s a service you already provided, doesn’t mean you did us any favours. We’re not going to throw a “tantrum” in your restaurant. The service was absolutely abysmal, is this something we need to point out to you? No one was particularly present to actually take our dessert orders, nor were they present for us to ask for the bill. It was obvious from the wait staff that they lacked in that totally.I’ve been to many places and the service you provide is very outdated. We were a big group and you fail at accommodating big groups. Everyone else who has reviewed your place seems to only be 2 or 3 people party who were attended to.I’ve a right to write my review and the events which happened on the night. I am no way insulting your place nor the people there but rather presenting facts from my point of view. The people have the right to know the experience we have and they can pass a verdict when they visit your place, if they decide to.Your response as a whole seems to be rather poor and quite a backwards way of dealing with criticism. If I wanted to tarnish your image I’d have many other ways to do so.All in all, I wouldn’t be recommending this place from my experience.—-We reserved this place for 7 people. I’ll be honest - the starter was nice. The main was ok. The service was appalling - barely any waiter around to actually ask for the dessert menu or even the bill. The ridiculous deposit which was taken away from the bill was preposterous - we didn’t even spend the full 3 hours at the place as the experience was just absolutely below mediocre.I’d assume if you’re out of various desserts you’d at least inform us to prevent wasting our time from eyeing the menu and then again waiting for the struggle for the staff to come over. The front entrance is also tiny - this is where folks pay for the bill. Maybe bring the card machine to the table for quicker service and exit? So much wrong with this place. I’d give 0 stars if I even could. Never again!
MoreExcellent service - accommodating staff and extremely affordable meal. Good portions. Used a Groupon voucher for two courses for two people. €24.
MoreReally great service, so attentive and great chat. A good atmosphere. Food was yummy, portions size I would say they were just too big, we weren’t able to even get close to finishing the mains.Well priced - except the wine, again rather expensive €20 for a carafe of red wineRing tone of the main phone at the bar kept going off and ringing (would appreciate it being turned down or on silent)Other than that the main server (think could be ownerwas really good and helpfulThank you
MoreWe went there for lunch and booked the table beforehand a day. We had the set Christmas lunch (3 coursewith starter, main course and dessert for 28 euros. The quality of the food is really good. The quantity is quite big as well. The restaurant is very clean and they have taken good precautions for the covid situation as well. It was nicely decorated for Christmas so you will will get a positive Christmas vibe.
MoreWe went at lunch time for a friends birthday and it was really nice. After 4 months of lockdown, was a great experience as all the plates that me and my friends ordered were delicious, the portions are big. Shout out to the brownie 🤤 one of the best Ive tried in years.
MoreThe food was excellent (with a small exception with the side salad, which was disappointing). The steak was especially delicious. Service was very attentive and friendly. Unfortunately, I found the atmosphere a little "sterile". Wanted to be seated downstairs, but that was full. I think it is much nicer and cozy down there. The upstairs dining area was a bit too formal and not very fun (after all, you should be having fun in Dublin!). A minus point for the bathrooms. VERY DIRTY and it seemed they werent cleaned for days. If you have a nice restaurant, dont forget the washrooms.
