La Cantina in Lilongwe

Friendly staff, relatively quick service. Quite environment

Went here on my first night in Lilongwe and I cannot recommend it enough. It was a beautiful evening in a well decorated, lovely setting with great food and excellent service. The guacamole and cucumber chili margarita were highlights but I’m sure everything on the menu would be great.

This gem has great margaritas and wonderful Mexican food. The portions on tacos were very generous. I appreciated the imported craft beer, which I haven’t seen at many restaurants in the area. The vibe was nice and I’d sit outside for a meal here any day!

Took my family there for dinner last month as many people recommended this place. Good vibe, friendly staffs and tasty food, but the price is way higher than Blantyre. I guess the clientele you are targeting are mostly for the expats, even so, to me its a bit overpriced. But again, nice food, no complaint for that.

Lovely Mexican food. I love the Chicken Chipotle and the hot chocolate with Cinnamon.

I ate at La Cantina in early August. The food and service was very good. The menu is Mexican and my tacos were as good as I have had anywhere. It’s a nice chilled vibe (although they are quite capable of cranking up the tunes). There are more South African craft beers on the menu than you will find at most upmarket restaurants in South Africa. It’s not a locals joint.

The food is amazing, the environment really sets that typical Mexican feel and great ambiance and great staff. A variety of foods and drinks. If I’m in Lilongwe again I’ll surely be back

Bougee place, mostly exparts and foreigners. Good if you have fun company, very low or sometimes no music is played at the premises.

$$$$! Delicious tex mex for a premium price. Not sure what happened to cause food prices to double in the last couple weeks, but dang. Sure, inflation has gone up most places like everywhere else in the world....like the expected 20% at the most. Food is the same great taste that youd expect from before and quality youd find in most fine restaurants in the African region. I could compare to just the quality of my most recent trip to SA in CapeTown or when I lived in Thailand, but the prices reminded me more of New York City or London. 1 deliciously cinnamon Churro stick: about $7 USD. One corn cob deliciously burnt and buttered and cheeses: $4.5USD, 1 crunchy Taquito: $9.5USD. Fish taco set comes with three small battered fried fish: $13.00, and then my favorite Barbacoa beef burrito: came in at a whooping $16.00USD. Oh how I miss Chipotle or QDoba, now. Dont get me wrong, this place is a must try for that great Mexican flavor cant find but a few places in Lilongwe, but now, maybe save this place for a special occasion here and there out of the year, and I would like to eat here weekly like I used to, and I thought it was expensive then. It is sad that for a decently clean restaurant and good service and food, prices are exorbitant as a trade off. Maybe thats the point?

The staff are great food is expensive and average. Drinks and cocktails are perfect. Ambience is top. Food wise not my best choice but they are the only Mexican restaurant in lilongwe.

Happy hour is 4-7pm, lol.They have delicious Mexican food that pairs well with their drinks menu.

Good Mexican food.

i would ;love to give them 4.5 stars but i give three stars because of how slow the service was the last time i went there. we waited really long for the food to arrive but the food was delicious and fresh, we absolutely enjoyed every bite and will keep going back for more! the ambiance was great too, a choice of indoor and outdoor sitting, the place is clean, no weird smells or flies even when u sit outside.

I can easily say they have the best cocktails in town …Great service too.Our waiter never let our glasses run empty .

I really enjoyed this Mexican restaurant in Lilongwe. Although the food is a long way from home, its authentic enough. Service was excellent, both the pork burrito and the margaritas were tasty. I do recommend it.

The destination if a Mexican dish is what you are up for... great environment for night romantic dinners , make sure you make a reservation and tell the staff any special requests you have... The service is great... If you are not sure what you want to order...start with the enchiladas 🤣.. oh and have that visa ready. The prices are a bit on the high end...

Great place for Spanish/Mexican food in Lilongwe Malawi. My wife was super excited to find this restaurant since we are here for 18 months on a church mission and she was missing her Mexican food restaurants from Arizona. This place has been a lifesaver for her!

The food is really good and the service makes you want to be there

They have been open for table service for over a month. Went late afternoon, no other customers. 40 minute wait for a "quick bite" mini taco, which was a bit cold when served.

We found Cantina online and went to try them out. I have eaten at many Mexican restaurants in dozens of countries over the last 50 years +.We ordered the chicken burritos and were surprised at how very delicious they were.I would rate them as some of the best I have ever eaten.To top it off, the service was excellent as well.I cannot recommend this restaurant high enough.If you like Mexican...give them a try. You will not be disappointed.

The 4 stars is because the tortilla chips, salsa and guac were legit. I ordered a Chimichanga stuffed with chicken, it was a bit oily but ok (they call it a taco). The side of rice was not well cooked the refried beans were ok. Maybe look into take away packaging, some food gets lost in foil. I love that they accept cards the ambience is great but I dont play with mosquitoes very well. Will be back to try other stuff. Staff are polite and friendly.

Finally a Mexican restaurant in Lilongwe! Sherri, the owner, is an amazing example of a Malawian entrepreneur who has taken her vision and created a first class experience, having learned Mexican cooking in Mexico! The food was absolutely wonderful and the service is 5 star! Drinks are available in all forms, though if you are on a budget, you might want to go to happy hour somewhere nearby and come here for dinner. The food is a great value and the flavors are exceptional!

Food is nice. Customer service is great too. Simple and beautiful decor. Some chairs are a bit uncomfortable but its no big deal.

Cozy Place to hang out!

Service was great but food was not the great. I had the Mexican classic, which was filled with veggies but barely any fish. They also don’t have any vegetarian options.The service was amazing and very accommodating which is why I’m giving this 2 stars.
