Fantastic place to stop for a coffee and some Mallorcas. Awesome setting and great location. Most negative reviews are based on slow service or bad food. The food and drinks have always been wonderful for me. Dont expect a quick pop-in - give yourself at least 45 minutes for breakfast and youll have a great time!

Loved it. Its such a beautiful place and the people there are nice and efficient. I had a great time and will return for sure. Oh, by the way, the food was really good. It was overall a great surprise and Im still in love with it. The apple syrup is great, I recommend it with your pancakes.

Mallorca Classico! My family came to La Bombonera for the Mallorcas but also thoroughly enjoyed the coffee! We loved it so much, my wife spilled her first cup then purchased another!

Three good was good. Definitely try the bread it was amazing. I had the cubano which Id also highly recommend. The sangria is homemade and worth every sip. The only drawback is getting the attention of your server.

The food was okay, we got a mallorca with ham and cheese as well as poached eggs with sausage and bread. However, we ordered scrambled eggs, wanted bacon but they were out. I understand, its busy, made a substitution, no problem. We waited over 20 minutes for this even seated at the bar and it was wrong. We had places to go so couldnt wait another 15 for a remake. The mallorca was very thin, very little bread to it as compared to cafe mallorca down the street. The eggs and sausage were okay, but pretty hard to mess that up. I told the lady up front as we were paying that we ordered scrambled, not over easy, as they were $2.50 more expensive. Her response, well did you eat it? I said well yes, we had already waited 20 minutes. Her response was well people wait an hour in here for food. So I just said forget it, paid for it. You cant argue with people that feel like they are correct and act that rude. My advice for this business, the customer isnt always right, Ive been in food service for 16 years, however, when they are right, dont be so incredibly rude to them that they want to write you a bad review and never come back.

One, the coffee.... Two, the mayorca (they butter the top, press it on the panini toaster, and cover it after with powder sugar).... And three, its history. The service is good and the ambiance is that of years past. Check out the old coffee grinder on display and the amazing old school espresso machine like the ones that were made in Cuba.

The reviews about bad customer service are true. We walked in and no one came to seat us so we sat ourselves down. We sat for ten minutes and no one acknowledged us. We asked if they were still serving lunch and the waitress said no in a very aggressive and rude manner. Their website states they are open until five with no clarification that lunch ends at three. It’s really unfortunate they don’t fix their customer service because I heard really great things about their food. It’s an easy fix to train your staff to be more friendly and helpful. There is no need to treat people who are giving you money so rudely. This would easily bring your reviews to a five since almost all the negative ones are based on your poor customer service. Google is the main ways tourists and locals find your restaurant and choose your place over the other. I am speaking to the owners of this place because you are loosing a lot of business due to your employees. We would of came back another day if your employees were helpful and apologized and they explained lunch ended at three in a nice way. You lost our business just because of your rude employee and the lack of acknowledgement from them.

The guava pastry was absolutely delightful and the restaurant itself has charm. The food was tasty, albeit service was slow as there was not enough staff. I would come back for a pastry and coffee, and with more time.

Service is so terrible that I’m writing while I sit at the counter in the restaurant. Ran out of Mallorcas and whipped cream and had an eye roll and huff when we asked for more time to review menu. Cafe con leche was great. Too many other choices in old San Juan, skip this and spend your money where it’s appreciated.

Worst place I have EVER been to. If I could leave no stars I would. I don’t typically write reviews but after the way we were treated I just had to. We went there after hearing and seeing all the great reviews but they were honestly a joke. The place is beautiful inside and out but the management and service given there makes the place UGLY. Be ready to wait over an hour JUST be seated and then be treated poorly by staff with their nasty comments. Don’t bother even asking them for anything because they become defensive and hostile. I understand that being short staffed might be frustrating to servers but if you have a quick fuse and are verbally attacking customers maybe working as a server isn’t for you. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Awesome. Go, get the coffee as just espresso to really enjoy the flavor. Smooth, no hints of bitterness, absolutely phenomenal coffee. I also loved their specialty sandwich. Hits the right spot before setting out for the day.

Excellent place to go for breakfast and coffee in Old San Juan. You’ve got to try the Mallorca with bacon, egg, and cheese. Don’t forget to look at the pastry display in the front window and get something from there too. Their quesitos are incredibly delicious!

Do not go here! The customer service is awful. We arrived and asked for a menu to look over and the hostess didn’t provide us with one but instead mentioned that we had to wait to be seated. Shortly after, a few seats became available at the bar and the hostess completely disregarded the lady in front of us who was waiting to be seated. Then a few gentlemen came in and also asked for a menu to which the hostess stated that they needed to be seated as well before viewing. The gentlemen then stated he wanted to view the menu before deciding to eat there, the hostess’ coworker provided him one. We also asked for one and the coworker provided it. At this time the two bar seats are vacant and the lady in front of us still has not been seated. Another family finishes eating and my wife mentioned to the hostess if we could seat at the booth where the family got up to which the hostess replied, “you have to wait” with a rude tone. The hostess began to argue with my wife and I and was just awfully condescending. She went to signal to the door stating that we could get out if we wanted to. She was being racist to my wife mentioning that she knew where she was from and that she was not welcomed there. We decided to leave immediately because she was incredibly appalling. Would not recommend eating here. Would give zero stars.

Great spot to try when visiting San Juan!! Their coffee is amazing and my family and I are big coffee lovers. The atmosphere is very welcoming and their food is also great. Stopped by on two different trips and the staff actually remembered us after 3 months! Must reccomend to get great food, coffee (which is freshly brewed at request), and can take amazing pics for Instagram!!

Located in Old San Juan. Its only a short walk from the government houses and park with statute of Christopher Columbus. We got their home-made pastry and ate it at the park. It was during the day during Easter weekend. Felt very safe. Old city is quite alive!

Me and my family love this place because the atmosphere is fun. There is one waitor and his name is Jose who is wonderful, he’s a great server and knows us. However last time we went we had a very rude waitress. She passed by our table multiple times without saying anything so we had to call Jose to ask who our server was. The waitress had an attitude the rest of the meal and even rolled her eyes at us when we ordered. We’ll still return though because we love Jose and the food is really tasty. Their coffee is spectacular as well as their classic mayorcas and mayorca sandwiches.

As much as I love the food here, it is clear to see that the tourists that visit here have had a negative impact on the attitude of the workers. I can understand as we witnessed some rude treatment to the staff by the tourists. Im happy that they have so much business but wish they were treated better by the cruisers.

I’ve been coming to this place for years. They went through a renovation and seem smaller is my only complaint. Everything else was amazing. Our server was super friendly and attentive. Always order a Mallorca sandwich when you go.

A quaint old time style soda shop but includes a bakery and food items. The milkshakes made with local ice cream are excellent, as are the pastries in the window (all very fresh). The place is very clean and so too the restrooms. Helpful staff.

This traditional favorite is always a great choice. The remodeling kept its original look and the service is good. They are understaffed in the kitchen and waiting for the food ordered is very slow. That results in patrons occupying tables waiting too long to be served, missing out in more business opportunity.

We went to this place for breakfast because we saw people waiting outside the front door before it opened. You could sit in front of the kitchen and watched the chef cooking for you. For the dishes, it was just like traditional US breakfast. If you just want to take an average breakfast and continued your visit in Old San Juan, I would recommend this place.

What a gem. The people of San Juan think its the best coffee shop in the World but all I know is that if I was a movie director or mob boss then this would be my local breakfast jaunt. The classic decor and delightfully serious waiters create an environment that makes you feel more important than you are.The Mallorcas are delicious and dont you dare ask for no sugar on your Mallorca. Sacrilege!

Loved it! Randomly had a local who was on a morning run stop to offer (us obviously confused out oft ownerssome help. He chatted us up for a few minutes then walked us three blocks giving us advice and history. He highly recommend La Bombonera and to try the mallorcas. It was the second best decision we made while in Puerto Rico! (I mean how can you beat jumping off a waterfall cliff in the rain forest?Mallorcas are the BEST! We ended up having more during our trip, but this place was by the best. Apparently they are known for their pastries, which is basically what a mallorca is. If you visit Old San Juan, make this a must stop for at least one of your meals!

We have been here twice now. I was disappointed in some of the negative reviews based on our first visit and then we had our own negative experience the second time. My husband is from PR and speaks fluent Spanish. Staff were very chummy with him as we got seated. Our two teens and I know some but are not fluent. One server welcomed us and heard our English so she brought us English menus. Then, a different server came by and made a comment to my husband about getting Spanish menus for us because the other server thought we were "gringos." He said this in Spanish and then scoffed. We then ordered in a mix of English/Spanish and he got haughty with us. He stopped speaking to us from that moment. I dont know if he was embarrassed or irritated with us but we got our food and the check, the end. I am not high maintenance at all. Id even rather servers leave us to our meal but this was too much. It was more like disdain. Weve visited PR family every year and this is the first negative vibe weve gotten anywhere. The food is good but we go, more importantly, to support a local place. We havent decided if we will go back.

I have been comming to little joint in San Francisco St since I can remeber. Exoerienced it both vintage and new. Vintage rocked!! The place is way overpriced and food quality and service lack quality. Took my daughter to see where mama calmed her cravings, but I think thats my last visit. Sadly it was a great place.
