La Baita Vecchia Malga - Deli in Bologna, Italy
La Baita Vecchia Malga in Bologna
Description
I had one lunch here. The food was good but the young all-male wait staff are attentive but a bit surly. La Baita was recommended by a local. Theres no booking so go outside of high-peak meal times. And youre perched at a high table in a narrow popular alleyway, so people are constantly filing past watching you eat. I had a selection of pickled veg as an appetiser, (artichokes, funghi, olives), all excellent, and then a lasagne - beautifully cooked, and very tasty. La Baita is a great place to buy cured meats and fresh pasta, too, and its very authentic. Recommended if you dont mind feeling like youre an exhibit at the museum.
MoreAte there a few times during our time in Bologna. Great little place with friendly workers and delicious food. Highly recommend.
MoreThe place is cute, sitting on high chairs. The pasta is fresh but not tasty. The service is excellent.
MoreA very fine cheese and ham emporium. We were here 5 years ago and came back especially. A bit more popular now, and deservedly. Great deli platters straight from the joints. Superb local cheese. And the house red is to die for. Forget the wine list, just ask for bicchiere di vino rosso and away you go.Also local craft beers.Whats not to loveOne of my top 5 favourite European ham, cheese and wine shops.
MoreThe waiting staff where very uninterested and really just going through the motions. Hardly managed a smile. The guy at the counter who took €80+ (of my hard earned), could not have been more RUDE, no thanks, or gratitude and even eye contact. The most appalling and disappointing experience in Bologna. It really is the simple things that make the difference. Avoid La Baita, there are so many better options on the same street.
MoreI was here for a lunch with a friend, it’s a really nice place very unique from the rest of restaurants. You’ll see the difference!!Totally recommend it specially if you’re visiting Bologna
MoreA nice deli/restaurant located on a busy pedestrian road at the centre of Bologna. From Spring to Autumn it is usually very busy. We had dinner there and enjoyed it quite a lot and we found the prices to be normal. The service was OK, I had to ask for an ice bucket for the wine but they brought it immediately after I asked. The food was tasty and the portions OK.On the negative side, there is not a wide variety of dishes and space is an issue, but that is common for all restaurants/bistrots in that area. Highly recommended, 4 stars.
MoreAmazing to try very good quality for the food, wine and prices
extremely good homemade pasta, great wine, delicious cheese platter. the only downside is that its extremely loud and right outside the main piazza with lots of foot traffic all day long. authentic Italian cuisine, but not your quiet romantic dinner place.
MoreThe food was less than average and the service was just awful! Felt terrible after asking for a menu and even worse after asking about the dishes they had. What a rude attitude! The pasta itself was decent, but the sauce had absolutely no taste. Dont go there!
MoreDecent deli with reasonably priced platters that are very filling. The seating on the second floor offers a nice and somewhat quieter view of the deli that is very close to the plaza maggiore in Bologna, Italy. The piadini sandwiches are nice with traditional flatbread. I particularly liked the emilia platter with three meats, two cheeses, and tigelle. I might suggest ordering more tigelle if you get a platter. It would be nice if this deli has a pure cheese plate too. It is certainly more meat heavy of a place.
MoreGreat food and wine. As always in Bologna. busy street so but its fun to watch ppl walk by. Staff very friendly. Had the burrata and ham which was really enjoyable for both my mouth and heart. Enjoy!
MoreLove it, love ham !
Lovely food, great service ate here twice
Great spot right in the heart of the Quadrilatero. I had traditional tortoloni in brodo and it was so delicious! The service was great too, they found a great table for me (I hadnt bookedand were very accomodating of the fact I dont speak Italian. Delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere.
MoreGreat food, good service, only issue is all the beggars that come and bother you for money.
MoreThis is the first time in over 2 weeks in Italy that we experienced bad service. We asked for an indoor table, were ushered across the street, placed at a table, then essentially ignored. We ordered a bottle of water, asked for some advice on wine and the food. We did receive a bottle of water which we did not open. The waiter did not give us any advice on food or wine, he disappeared and did not return. He appeared to be more interested in the outdoor tables. We walked out.I cannot recommend this place..
MoreHoly wow.Tortellini Parmegianno and Lasagna were TOP. Never ate such amazing, delicate Italian dishes such a like. The dishes looks so simple but its supet tricky. Dont believe them, they are savages!
MoreBeer and some cheese and beef. Enjoyed our night
An excellent place to sit outdoors and people-watch amid the hustle and bustle of Bologna. The meats and cheeses are expectedly superb and the wait-staff are extremely friendly and helpful in decoding Bolognas trove of regional specialties.
MoreAmazing ambiance, wine and mortadella 😎
Nice Place but we weren’t convinced by the food. We ordered a mixed platter with cheese and meat but should have gone for smaller cheese and meat platter. The salami was average and tue cheese on out plate was tasteless. Just one sort of bread while all tables around us had different sorts of bread.Service was a bit slow and some of the staff only spoke Italien - which was really difficult in a very touristic Restaurant…
MoreVery nice shop with nice products. The food was good. Prices for drinks are a bit high and the service was oke but not very fast or friendly.
MoreVery delicious food, waiting was fast and very kind. Cosy street, highly recommend!
MoreWe chose to have lunch here and try a couple of tasting boards with cold cuts and different kinds of cheese. Theres a broad selection of combos based on different Italian regions’ typicalities. The staff was nice and quick to serve us what we ordered, despite we got there without booking on a busy Sunday. Moreover, the place is pet friendly.Loved the location! Thank you. :)
MoreSo good here we ate twice in 2 days 😍.
Bologna is a nice town with a suprisingly compact historic Center. So its easy to reach most sights by foot.Whenever you get hungry, you should head here to the Via Pescherie Vecchie - a small but bustling food lane in old town Bologna. On this small stretch of street lots of people gather to grab some food and even more so for some drinks. Its fun, its lively - even in Corona-times.But also the quality is right. Restaurants look good and so do the shops. Some - like this one here - are two in one: a specialty shop as well as a restaurant. This place here was a great choice. Took one of their high tables outside, where our Bulldog was welcome as well.Ordered a plate of cured ham, mortadella and Burrata. Some mushroom antipasti on the side. Two glasses of red wine with that.Staff was very friendly, helped us choose some good, local wine. Presentation of the food very stylish, quite the looker. Quality of the meat was very good. Burrata and meat goes very well together. If you never had Burrata (Mozzarellas creamier and milkier brother/sister), then you should really try some. The one served here is of very good quality. The red wine was delicious. Not just cheap table wine. Enjoyed every sip. The shop inside is full with good stuff. (CuredHam, Salami, pasta, oil, antipasti etc. A tasty looking place.Prices are - for a big city with this location - fair. Surely would come back here.
MoreVery good selection of pecorino and of course many other cheeses and meat. I have not stayed for an apperitivo but it is always packed so Im sure its great. Everytime Im in Bologna, I go here.
MoreFood and wine was delicious in a lovely & vibrant street
Decent food, service very slow to nonexistent. Three little extra pieces of "bread" to a 14€ cold cut platter cost 1.80€ extra.
MoreYou have to try it! Traditional Bolognese food and good wine
A place that will give you the atmosphere, the taste and flavors of Italy, specially of Emilia Romana cuisine. Here you can have a taste of lasagna, bolognesa, tortellini, all type of salumi, mortadella, prosciutto, and all sorts of type of local and regional produce and beverages.Outside you have a small terrace on the narrow market street where you can order their dishes. Inside you will find a well stocked market to buy all sorts of products. You will spend no more than 15€ per person for a main dish, a side dish to share and a cup of local wine.
MoreExceptional quality! Here I am 1 year later in this Covid-19 pandemic dreaming about this magical place!
MoreThe service was very friendly. The wine was also really good. We had some meat along with the wine. Nice atmosphere sitting outside. It was quite humid and hot that day though.
MoreMost incredible lunch! Had one of the meat and cheese boards (Emiliaand it was amazing! I wish I could eat here every day!
MoreThe most amazing place for a quick bite in Bologna! Must be visited no matter what!
MoreI spent a few weeks exploring Italy and sampling meats and cheeses. In fact, my only reason for coming to this region was to try and find the best meats and cheeses. This place had the best combination of both in the whole country. Very crowded but good service and cool environment as well. Highly recommended.
MoreThis was literally our first stop in Bologna. We’d walked up and down a few streets looking for a lunch spot and as soon as we saw this place we took the only available seat.Unbeatable selection of meats, cheese and drinks. We got a large share plate and were the envy of most of the crowds walking by. The bread was hot and the drinks cold. Can’t recommend this place enough, you will not be disappointed!!
MoreI bought slices of meat recommended by waitress.A big plus for quality of food.A big plus for being open really late.A bit too expensiveWaitress did not tell that we can sit upstairs (there was no place downstaits)Well.. i would not go again myself, but i recommend to eat there at least once.Bottle of water 0,3 is 2€
MoreWow what an experience. Great service, amazing platters of fresh local meats and cheeses. And super generous with the portions. Wish every restaurant could be like this, especially it being in the city centre. Highly recommend it!
MoreHappy service, nice wine, decent salads. The pasta ragu was a bit dry and flavourless...but maybe thats how they like it here?! In the evening in summer if you sit out the front the sun shines warmly on your back. Delightful.
MoreAmazing deli/lunch place with excellent Taglieri options. Tagliatelle a ragu almost a must! On a great little street with outdoor seating area. Pasta/sauces to buy for home also available.
MoreExcellent ham and cheese platters
Very cool store and location with outdoor seating. Unfortunately, service was poor. We were seated and no service came. Tables were not cleared. So we left. There are plenty of other great choices nearby.
MoreWent here for drinks and appetizers before moving on to our dinner location.Food and drinks were good but the waiting time was quite long between ordering and actually receiving our appetizers.Overall a decent experience.
MoreGood for quick lunch. Variety of italian delicacies is tremendous.
We ordered a bottle of Lambrusco, which we saw on the next table, but the waitress brought another one, which was the dry one. After seeing our negative reactions, she openend it, said, ok? Cheers an left off.The cheese plate for two (20€), which contained no sides except honey at all, was a rather small variation of 4-5 cheeses. Not very intense ones i would say. This was a little bit disappointing because the shop is full of various delicious cheeses. The bread (served with the cheese platewas dry and far not enough for two. Finally i would recommend them:- better service and more understanding for the customerConcerning the cheese plate:- increase variety in cheese kinds- more sides, such as marmelades, chutneys, nuts, grapes etc.- better quality bread, more quantity for two persons
MoreEven though this place is the very centre of old town/market you will not pay extra to your bill (no servis fee and no coperrto fee). Food is fresh and served with taste. I do recommend it to try the board of regional cheese and meat or mix :Drinks quite expensive as everywhere apart of markets ;)
MoreTaglieri misti are the best things ever, I try going here at least once a week.
Everything was great here! The original tasting from Puglia! Cheese, Wine, Mozzarella and also very good Piadinas... the staff was lovely and I encourage everyone to come and enjoy the food for lunch or dinner!
