Sukkur Barrage (Sindhi: سکر بئراج, Urdu: سکھر بیراجis a barrage on the River Indus near the city of Sukkur in the Sindh province of Pakistan. The barrage was built during the British Raj from 1923 to 1932 and was named Lloyd Barrage. The Sukkur Barrage, is the pride of Pakistans irrigation system as it is the largest single irrigation network of its kind in the world. It irrigates from Sukkur district in the north, to Mirpurkhas/Tharparkar and Hyderabad districts in the south of Sindh, almost all parts of the province.[2] It is situated about 500 kilometres (300 milesnortheast of Karachi, 5 kilometres (3 milesbelow the railway bridge, or the Sukkur Gorge. The introduction of barrage-controlled irrigation system resulted in more timely water supplies for the existing cultivated areas of Sindh province of Pakistan.Sindh survives almost entirely on the water of the River Indus as there is very limited groundwater available. Rainfall in the province averages between 100 and 200 mm per year, while the evaporation rate is between 1,000 and 2,000 mm. Thus, Sindh is arid and it is only the Indus which irrigates otherwise barren lands of Sindh. Regular surveys have not been carried out to assess the availability of groundwater in the province. Various sources estimate that its volume is between three and five MAF scattered in 28 per cent of the geographical area of Sindh. However, some experts suggest it to be less than these estimates. This water is found mainly along the Indus water channels and in the few natural underground streams.
It gives more knowledge
Its all about the Barrage , There is the material samples that are used in the making of the Barrage the pictures of which were taken during the construction and the engineering models , it was amazing Experience but the security guard bribed us to enter in the museum.
Lloyd Barrage Museum is a wonderful and historic place that provides in-depth knowledge about the overall history and construction of Lloyd Barrage (now called Sukkur Barrrage).
Small but well maintained museum. The museum has an excellent collection of books, old machinery, models and books. Engineers and people interested in engineering projects must visit.
A nice place to visit.
Good museum for the history of the Barrage construction and design. Ticket is not required. Parking space is available. Environment is very pleasant. Staff are cooperative and guide you through out the visit. You need permission from the control room. Good in winter season. Some photographs are rare. Nearly hundred years old machines are still working with some maintenance. Great to see the design and construction work of hundred years ago.
Museum kept all structures and shapes and also designs of lloyd Barrage
Its my dream to visit this museum but didnt know how can i get entrance there thats why i didnt try yet to go there
Do visit this museum no entry fees
Small but very informative museum. Must visit for those who visit sukkur barrage. Though permission required for entry from local officials.
The iconic structure, the identity of Sukkur is this Sukkur Barrage. Must visit this place when you are around Sukkur.
Barrage Bridge is old but still sustained and manages too much traffic. It must be checked on weekly or monthly basis as its life had already been completed in late 1980s. Government must pay attention to build a new one before something bad happens God forbid.
A great place to see the antique store and Self learning about the antique work done by the English rulers of sub continental

They have all designed of barrage and irrigation systems of river indus
Very rare is known about this museum, historical place..
Sukkur Barrage is a national treasure that deserves maximum projection.
7 cannals sprouting from the barrage, and its 100 years old..
Good and informative.
It is also well know in public as Sukkur Barrage that controls down stream water flow of River Sindh. Sukkhar Museum shows here history of almost century old barrage. There are almost all angle models of barrage as well as water divide to canals. It is easier to understand with 3D model of river and canals to manage among the largest irrigation system in the world.
Wonderful place worth visiting
Beautiful....the only place in sukkur to visit. But go there in evening at asar prayer.
Amazing view of sukkur barrage, enjoyed alot with cousin took bath in River indus. It was a great moment of fun and entertainment. Visited museum and had a great time there too.
Place with memorable things
An engineering marvel built by the British rulers from 1923 to 1932 having foresight for the future was named "Lloyd Barrage" for George Ambrose Lloyd, Governor of Bombay province, with 7 canals, three on the right side of the mighty Indus river & four on its left side brought green revolution in making the Sindh province a fertile valley. On the left bank just at 100 yards from the barrage itself is "Lloyd Barrage" museum,a well kept, neat museum provides information about the construction of this magnificent project. One can find, model of the bridge with enlarged photographs of different stages of construction of this mammoth structure to harness the water of INDUS RIVER. The two things would have been useful for future time, one width of the road o passage on the Barrage ,second agate for passing the boats, cranes & tall structures from down to upstream.
Poorly managed. Was closed on Sunday, if these places are closed on Sundays then when people could visit it specially school going kids?
The best museum
Lloyd Barrage museum is not really a tourist spot because except photo gallery nothing is worthy to see. There are three rooms of Lloyd Barrage museum, one contain models of old machines, second room contain models of Barrage and third room contain photos which were taken during the construction period. I was shocked to know that for entrance in museum you must have someone from Irrigation department sindh which is very weird.
Just for the getting to know the history of the barrage a bit, the place was ok. It has a small picture gallery showing some of the construction phases of barrage and adjacent library is also which was closed at the time we visited. The other room has few models and replicas of barrage and samples of sand and river bed. The place could do better if it had a tour guide.
Historical place must visit it
As a tourist for the first time I visited this museum. Im happy that we got our history safe. But as a tourism this gonna be charged to generate revenue for sindh to profit land mehran.
Civil engineering at its best.

it is ok for history And MuseM lovers. some oldest things are there. peaceful place .
Great experience. It holds complete history of construction and design. Must visit for civil and architectural enthusiasts.
its very small but very informative..great to look at the old architectures of sukhur barrage
Marvelous creation of 19th century. This is the museum telling the story of the Barrage. You will find different kind of stones taken as a sample for the foundation of the Barrage. Also a model of the Barrage is represented there. Different machines which were used in the making of the Barrage are also displayed. Every detail can be found here regarding the history of barrage.
Asia largest barrage at sukkur its the backbone of sindh
There is a sample of the Barrage and It is a good place to see the wonders of Architecture

A unique piece of infrastructure built in 19th century. The museum contains display of all the materials which were used in that barrage. It also contains sample model of barrage which clearly displays complete barrage. Another room contains pictorial evidence of barrage construction of that time. Its worth visiting such an amazing built barrage.
Small but amazing museum tracking the history of the Barrage built to channel water throughout Sindh. An amazing feat of technology. The Barrage was built during the British Raj from 1923 to 1932 and was named Lloyd Barrage. Still in full working order
Well maintained museum where you can explore LLOYD Bridge well
The museum just shows a bit of History of The Great Sukkur Barrage but its not a good point to visit if you want to increase your knowledge
What an amazing place to visit. It shows how difficult it was to build the barrage.
